I am doing both shafts and had the same problem with the outer ball joint. I wanted to replace mine so eventually I grinded off the ball joint end and the did a section on the lip of the ball joint with the hub, inserted a long screwdriver and started hammering it in until it would separate. I also use two hammers to provide some better force and pounding actiok. Hope my comment helps, it’s a nightmare to try and do this job with rust welded parts. Good thing your suspension bolt did not snap as mine did! Nice struts by the way!
Thank you for the tip dude, definitely helpful and when I eventually do a ball joint I will make sure to give this a go! Thank you for your comment about the struts, I did a series in the channel installing them :)
Did mine today, cv grease everywhere 😒. And that top bolt! @#$%%$#@#$$. Great feeling once done though. Only problem now is the lower ball joint nut went on ok and so did tightening. But on checking torque it now just spins, so won't tighten or come off. Can't see it spinning so think thread or nut is stripped. Taking another look tomorrow and order a pair of bushes. A lump hammer worked for me to release the control arm.
@@GrindingGearsOfficial I was amazed how much cv grease was all over the shop! Yeah lump or sledgehammer 👌. Feel so satisfied tonight. Exhaust rear failed mot so need to take a look at that, may just order new exhaust and be done with it. Will see how rusty it is!. Cheers, by the way I interacted with you on MOG.
Lower joint, remove the 13mm bolts with ratchet. Penetrating fluid between the joints. Then use hammer with long flat screwdriver / pry bar to split this from the hub. Hammering the control arm generally won’t do anything as the impact is absorbed by the bushes. Tie rod end separated from the hub- remove the locking nut. Apply penetrating fluid to the threads, then strike the side of the hub where it connects to the tie rod taper. Do not strike the tie rod itself.
I can’t seem to put the ball joint on the lower control arm into the hub, I’ve not taken to strut out, however would that stop me from getting the angle I need to put the ball joint in
@@GrindingGearsOfficial thank you, my bolt doesn’t seem to want to come out hence why i didn’t take it out as it will cause a lot of stress if it rounds or even worse snaps
nice video I did same job as I changed my clutch while my subframe was out while I was doing my rear wishbone bushes I changed them to poly bushes
Awesome mate. Poly bushes is on my list, at some point £££

Glad to hear this helped mate. I need a bigger hammer for bottom arms :D CV grease is the worse thing known to man!! The top bolt is horrid yes!

@@KoiKicks ahh! Awesome stuff. My R53 exhaust split at the cat and I replaced it from the manifold back on the driveway. Not too big of a task
@@GrindingGearsOfficial Mot reports silencer on mine, must be a crack or something. Taking a good look tomorrow.
Really informative video Jack, nice work. Them 13mm bolts look a bit tricky though, any reccomendations to make it any easier?
Ratcheting spanners 👍🏼

Long reach 13mm rachet
take them out if you have your subframe out doing your rear wishbone bushes so can change your clutch at same time

I would say so yes. Taking the strut out is a quick job, there’s a video on my channel where I swap over to coil overs and show the process there 👍🏼
@@GrindingGearsOfficial thank you, my bolt doesn’t seem to want to come out hence why i didn’t take it out as it will cause a lot of stress if it rounds or even worse snaps
It’s easier to get to the bracket bolts if you take the rear engine mount off😬
Ah! Thanks for the advice dude. Will pin your comment for the next unlucky person to tackle this job and come across my video!
Dude that looks like a mission 😳. Have you done engine mounts yet or the poly bush upgrades?
Not yet, hopefully at some point when I’m chasing better grip and power
Grinding Gears would you do it by lowering the subframe or in-flight? I took the subframe out, took a day to do the job but got there eventually.
cant get drivers side axle to pop in?
Hi mate, can you not get it in gearbox side? If not try spinning the axle so it’s in the right alignment 👍🏼
@@GrindingGearsOfficial thanks got it to pop in.
