I LOVE this homestead! I'm not familiar with building inside Valheim, but your projects give me the help I need to get started with "trying my hand at building" so thank you!
Love it when you say easy build...! :D Jokes aside, at 3:36 where you place 1m pillars into the 2m. Could have used 1m pillars on top of each other in the first place so you have the snap point you wanted and spare a few wood i guess. Nice build anyways and very helpful!
Lol I guess it can all be relative 😅 good point! That extra pieces really isn’t necessary if you approach it that way! Appreciate the support regardless!
I have tried it both ways, and I found the two 1m beams are not as structurally supportive when stacked on their own as the one 2m beam. So I don't think Smitty's approach is so wrong after all, except that it costs more in resources.
Thanks for this excellent design idea/tutorial! Very practical, comfy and good looking house design. I built my own island dreamhouse based on this tutorial (with partly altered materials and decorations). And I also added a stone basement level under the house for all the workstations/storage and a half-circle shaped small sauna at one end of the house.
Had to say thanks for this! I learned a lot from just this one build, and have incorporated a ton of the lessons here into my own work. I'm so satisfied with my LOD now. Something I would get a lot out of - building concepts for early/mid game. I wasn't able to use the stone you had here, so I used core wood logs + flooring for a lot of the base.
Beautiful, as always! 🤩 Thanks for sharing the build, always love it when you do the bigger projects but then really break them down and showcase smaller parts of the builds. Keep up the great work, bud! 🤘
Thanks Lancelot! I enjoy breaking down the process! The big projects are really just a chain of these smaller projects put together, so whereas the former inspires, it’s fun to come back and teach/share with the community in more bite sized ways! Really appreciate the support as always!
at around 3:40 where you sink a vertical 1m into a 2m to create a snapping point, you can instead use a horizontal 1m at the top of your vertical 2m and attach a 45⁰ cross to create the snapping points you use for the roof outline and will allow you to keep the entity count down which is important for me since i got a potato laptop i play on
I'm going back and rewatching some of your older stuff and it is really impressive to see how much you've matured in your building and style. Do you plan on doing another showcase of tips and tricks, or does this video more cover that?
Thank you! It really is interesting looking back and seeing how building can be a skill that’s honed over a period of time. I would agree that compared to some of my original stuff, my newer builds have a little bit more refinement which is cool to see! We all can improve! There are some nice tips/tricks in this one but I will definitely do a more focused tips and tricks video in the future. Just need to take time to dig into my brain and pick out my favorites to share!
I was able to guess most of it from the Edoras video but it's still nice to see it all in detail. Though I still find the hardest thing about this game is STORAGE. Literally every time I leave my base it takes 5 minutes tops to fill my inventory, then I spend another 10 minutes sorting through it. I tried using autostore mods but they seem to always glitch out (working properly the first time, then half the boxes cease to autostore the moment I log off from the map for the first time). The only thing seemingly working fine is crafting from boxes in range. Though to store most shite this game has you need like 40+ chests in your basement, and if autosort stops working right you still need to manually put everything into the right chests, unless you want to just throw it all into the first box you find and risk having a few of an item in every box taking up so much space. It's a nightmare. No wonder builders usually play in debugmode.. but since I use mods my console doesn't even work for some reason so I literally can't lol (throws an error every time you hit Enter in it no matter the command).
The Valheim Plus mod has an option to auto-deposit into chests. Also has a section about increasing the storage capabilities of both your inventory, and every buildable object (chests, boats, cart) as much as you reasonably want. Loads of other quality of life stuff besides all that, but the mod solving my storage problems made it downloading it worth it for just that reason alone.
Hey Smitty, i have a question about your previous video, the Edoras build, when you build your wall in that video, you have wooden spikes sticking out of your wooden wall, just above the stone staircases that you also use. I wanted to try this ingame aswell but the building mechanics won't let me place them, it keeps saying 'invalid placement' and only lets me place them on dirt or ground, do you use a building mod of some sort? Thanks in advance!
Wish Valheim team or modders added triangular walls that didn't have the beam on top, cause it ALWAYS look kinda bad when you use them, since they stick out through the roof in most inconvenient places... unless you're literally making the ugliest, boxiest structures possible. Unless you literally shift-place a second layer to your roof which doesn't look any less goofy
Maybe building a frame for the roof that extends 1 meter beyond the walls *in both directions would work? It should raise the roof enough to hide the beams, and any gap on the inside just looks like a design feature (a hypothetical path for torch smoke to escape?) or can be filled with a free-placed beam. Personally I just use it as an excuse to slap another roof cross on, but I'm basic like that if I'm not going full log cabin. Oooh... I bet framing the interior of a log structure with wood walls (or adding the logs to the outside) and then snapping the roof to the logs would get a similar look too. That being said, a double-thick roof is probably nice in a drake raid 😂
Those walls looks great !! it gives me tones of insporation. I'm in the process of building medieval village called Burnfast, you can check it out on my channel ^^
The way you made that roof has forever changed the way I make roofs, thank you bro 🙏
Great build again! Would love to see how you would decorate this on the inside and where to place a fireplace.

Thank you for explaining the rafter tails hanging over 1m, giving it that clean look. 👏🏻

Thanks for the detailed tutorial! Just made this, and it looks great!
Great to hear! Thanks for supporting the content!
Ooh, I would love to see your touch on the inside. 🥰 Maybe next video?

great tutorial for simple but beautiful builds. Thank you, Smitty
I learn something new every time, even if I play for sooooo long. Thx !
Beautiful man, love follow your Tutorial. Beautiful bulding and design.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the tutorial oriented content as well! Appreciate the support!
Man that music is mildly anxiety inducing. Anyway, beautiful build! Love the detail not being too overbearing.
Beautiful build & great video!
Thanks Embr! Glad you enjoyed and hope you're well!
Loving your channel.
wow super cute. thanks for the vid and step by steps. it helps hehe.. love ya work. x
Thank you for another beautiful build/tutorial!
Nice build like the style watched few your vids very nicely put together. Getting into the building bit more myself recently.
great video!

Players who build without corner snapping honestly scare me... I don't know how you guys make it look so easy.
what mod do you have for the building hammer to get npcs decorations etc?
Can you do some guides like this for Enshrouded?
How do you place bushes/in game entities and natural grass?
Does the beams that are a bit out of the roof's cover take rain damage?
stone chimney with wood trim for a hearth

I'm grabbing vape, and beer, I hope that's acceptable.
My man, haha
Can't wait to see what you do with Enshrouded
where should i put campfire?
Can you build whiterun from skyrim
Will definitely look into it! Would be a fun project!

Roof pieces need a snapping point right in the middle, doing the offset technique gets old real fast
Это невероятно! Очн круто строишь! 😳☺️😁
Hi) I saw u use some mods… can you share your mod list?
Hi, no mods in this one, but occasionally on other projects I’ll have Better Creative which gives access to all Valheim assets in the build hammer
@@smittysurvival thanks 🤍
I wish we had better options for workable windows and shutters. doors just look weird
Great dude but I have a question. Who's your lumberjack?
Those walls looks great !! it gives me tones of insporation. I'm in the process of building medieval village called Burnfast, you can check it out on my channel ^^
That music around 6:00 is very dissonant and horrible to hear
I don't need to be told how to nourish myself before every video.
This game is great. But good God there music is awful. Can you choose something less meandering? I feel like the music was written by an AI.
I personally don't mind the music in the game. Certainly some Biomes are better than others though.
Cheat builds...worthless
