"Goes down south - unlike real life" - I mean, if you're anywhere on the northern hemisphere, it does in real life too. Your sundials are great though, I really have to get one set up in my game soon!
I was just about to comment this, in the northern hemisphere the sun goes across the southern sky during the day. In fact during winter the sun is primarily in the south as it rises in the southeast and sets in the southwest because of the change in earth's axial tilt :)
1:44 If you're in the Northern hemisphere the sun does indeed go to the south at noon. So it is exactly like real life since the setting of Valheim is based on the northern hemisphere.
Exactly what I was about to say. Only near the equator does the sun ever sit directly overhead. Also, hovers much closer to the southern horizon in the winter with the tilt of the Earth making it far away, and that's actually why the day is shorter. Same goes in reverse for the Southern Hemisphere
@@alurkingislander By that logic, Valheim takes place extremely far north in its hemisphere, but during the summer for a much longer day, which would then be the only reason it's not deathly cold during the day.
@@ShawnPattonC that checks out, since scandinavia is relatively far north. i'm not super familiar with valheim, but from what i've heard, it'd make sense that it takes place in that area or a fictional equivalent
@@XMaster340 Yes, we all know that. I'm just saying that it is super extra north, and that the orbital mechanics in that case are consistent with what we see in game.
Hmm. Contemplating a small decorative farm/garden in a half circle shape with benches along the wall using a pine tree as the pole to measure the time. It would integrate with the base and look nice, but also serve a function. I know, a pine tree sways, but who needs to be accurate when you can be fancy? XD

So glad you included all different types of dials, even figuring out the rough time without a dial at all. Most people would have gone straight the the super mega dial to show off and left it at that. Knowing the time of day has been super crucial for Ashlands as it's nearly impossible to travel at night, but unlike other zones, it can be really hard to tell what time of day it is down there.

The pure dedication and attention to detail for this video AND to make it user friendly for replication is what earned my subscription tonight. Fantastic work! Thank you!
Actually, the sun is in the south for the entirety of the year when you live in Scandinavia, and IronGate is based in Sweden. It's definitely further south in the winter than in the summer, though.
Not so sure I wanna be seen in Valhalla just yet, but 100% want to make your copy & paste sun dial, because I'm a lazy viking! Thank you yet again for an incredibly well thought out video. We can all see how much time (pun intended) and effort you put into this.

@@CrateOfBananas Sun comes up in the east. Run to a body of water right as you get out of bed, should normally see a nice beam of sunlight in the water that can be easily used to orient some building piece east, or click 4 times counter clockwise to have a piece orient north.

Wow I LOVE this idea! not only did you go through the effort to make a template for "any" size so it's possible to make a wall dial incredibly accurately but you also provided a quick small template to have an accurate dial AND put in the effort to put the signage in the description?? amazing!
