We are proud of Alexander, thank you iron maiden.....Greeting's from Greece!
ELLAS !!!
I named my son after Alexander the Great, so he always remembers his Greek half... Which he does :) Of course, he has great shoes to fill, carrying a historic name.
Ζήτω η Ελλάς, glory to Greece
He was Macedonian.
Iam very proud that i am greek 🤟🤟🤟
Probably their most impressive song instrumentally. Now you know the greatness of the albums Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.
What's this probably shit , lol
There are many underrated tracks on these albums.
Somewhere In Time might just be my favourite album. Fuck me it is a great one.
The dual guitar solo gives me chills every time and I’ve heard it hundreds of times
Me too Bruh.
I almost always prefer Adrians solos but this time i think Daves is much better (2nd one)
Adrian and Dave reach liftoff in this one. You can just close your eyes and takeoff
@@thecooka69 that’s a fact, they’re one of a few bands that I can listen to and close my eyes and I know this will sound funny, but it’s like I can see the music.
@@thecooka69 Check out Tales of the Iron Maiden. Here’s a new one he’s going to be doing soon.

It’s about time y’all did the G.O.A.T. of Heavy Metal.
This song might be it. Somewhere in Time might be the pinnacle of metal and this song is as good a pick as any for the top spot on the album. My personal favorite is Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, but there is no disputing the greatness of Alexander.
Somewhere in Time ... one of my favorite albums of all time 🤘

I literally wrote book reports and history papers based solely on Iron Maiden lyrics since I was 12 yrs old. Lol I was in AP English in high school and did a report on the Samuel Coleridge epic poem, the rime of the ancient mariner, which is a song they have as well. There are a few actual quotes from the poem in the 12min song. I brought in a boom box and lyric sheets for the other students snd played the song in class lol thanks for the reaction!
I actually did the same thing with Rush lyrics when I was in high school in the 1980s. Eventually my AP English teacher asked me what books Neil Peart wrote so explaining that was awkward.
I remember quoting lyrics from Distant Early Warning, Freewill, Enemy Within and Afterimage so any Rush fan could guess exactly when I was in school.
@@michaelinnj7439 lol nice. Too bad most kids these days don’t listen to music with the substance we grew up with, and book reports probably don’t even exist anymore lol
Just described my 1st year English class after the teacher said a well known pop combo had referenced STC.
🤣🤘

8:03, Bruce Dickinson's explosion of rapping caught you by surprise, didn't it? I think this song is one of the greatest examples of a band creating the perfect atmosphere for their music. Nicko McBrain's drumming gives it an imperial, military feel and the guitars and singing also really add to it. It really gives you a sense that this guy was a huge deal. This album, Somewhere in Time, is my favorite album of all-time, across genres and this track is one of the reasons why. Another really interesting one is Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, if you haven't heard that one yet. I think it perfectly encapsulates the inner battle that everyone goes through during intense physical activity.
BTW--Steve Harris is definitely a huge fan of Rush and they are a major influence on Maiden.
Holy shit! They're finally playing this live for the first time EVER!👍
Who else could write and sing lyrics with the words Macedonian ,Persian, schythians , agean, babalyon, Percivius, phRygain , Gordian
When I heard The Ancient Mariner I thought what a brilliant idea, to set the Ancient Mariner to music. Then I heard this. Oh. He did it...again. So, he had one idea, and that was it. Love the instrumental, the lyrics, not so much.
Well, Neil Peart, but he was more sci fi inspired. :) It just goes to show that the kind of mind that could put such things into song is a rare talent.
Up Th Irons
Sabaton could. But they wouldn't exist without Maiden.
I'm a huge Maiden fan, and this album from 86 is so freaking awesome! I'm not sure if Bruce's voice ever sounded better than on this album. Great reaction! Up the Irons!! 🤘
Love this song and album. They have never performed this live and it's a shame because this would be epic live. Iron Maiden is the greatest live metal band. UP THE IRONS \m/\m/
I suppose they will spare Alexander for their last tour. When they will play it live you probably know that will be the first and the last time.
They have played in Belgrade week ago with zero, once again,ZERO songs from the Somewhere In Time album.
Alexander is unreachable when there is even no Wasted years i guess..
they played this song yesterday in Prague with other 4 song from Somewhere in Time, amazing
the first time it was played live in Ljubljana , i know because i was there
Its never too late for fall in love with MAIDEN. I have been this journey since 1982, I have seen them 17 times. Got my son into them when he was 2, he is now 22 . Took him to see them 4 times. They are and always be his and my favorite band. He knows at my wake to play Maiden songs throughout.
First Alexander was legend, then he became a God, but he died of fever like any mortal man.

Alexander the Great mentored by Aristotle
Aristotle mentored by Plato
Plato mentored by Socrates
A few might know this but Alexander the Great was named like this, not only because he was a great warrior, but he was a very open minded person and ahead of his time, as well. He wanted to expand poetry, arts, literature and stuff like that. Education for everyone was his first goal. He had that vision that every man/woman should have that right, under his kingdom. That’s why he was named The Great.
Hense the Great Library of Alexandria.
The twin dueling guitars gives me goosebumps 34 years still. Damn, we be old!

There's a meme I saw once, it was of Keanu Reeves as his "Bill & Ted" character, and the caption said :
"What if Iron Maiden was invented by professors and teachers to make kids get interested in history, literature, and mythology?" (or something to that effect)
I love that meme. :-D
In history classes they should just let their students listen to Maiden.
The education system could use the help.
Up the Irons!!!
Truth be told
🤘🏻Up the Irons from Greece🤘🏻
Maiden teaching our great Greek History.....
Wasted Years off the same album. Also you should do The Longest Day it’s about D-Day WWII, badass song, Empire Of The Clouds about the British airship the R-101, its 18 minutes of total Iron Maiden Awesomeness.
Iron Maiden is one of those bands in which I like every single song from All their albums.
The only other band like that for me is Opeth.
@@morlokkurak4763 Twisted Sister is mine
This is a heavy cut right here ! Definitely deserve ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION !!! Killing it for decades !!!!!
Hahaha. It is like Bruce opened up a history book and just started singing it. I heard this song a bunch of times but hearing with lyrics on the screen is the first time I had that thought.
This entire album is fantastic. I bought it when it first came out, in 1986. It was the first Maiden album I had ever heard.
Great album to start with.I started with Number Of The Beast.
My fav song from Maiden. The Greatest metal live band. The y gotta a lot of great songs. More maiden
Interesting note. They have never performed this song live. Not even on the somewhere in time tour.
Theres an interview with Nicko somewhere on YT (middle of another video) where he explains that they wanted to add it to the set. They rehearsed it but it had been so long since they played it, and the intricate nature and timing of the song, they couldn't perform it to the standard they wanted and i'm guessing the standard they thought fans would expect. So its never been included in a live show.

this album cover has a reference to EVERYTHING Maiden on every square inch! if you see something on the cover it actually has some kind of relevance to a former song, concert or symbol that theyve used before. one of their best album covers ever!
When I was in high school in the 80s, a classmate of mine brought this album in the history class and played this song.. The teacher I believe was very impressed...
Murray and Smith geniuses. Listen to those solos.

Good that you reacted to Iron Maiden jointly, it was about quite ago that you did. And funny you mentioned Rush because along with Iron Maiden are my two favorite bands; definitely recall some of the YYZ synth in this piece. One thing that I see Rush and Maiden sharing in common is that both have the ability to transport you with their music and place you in the scenery of the song (The Trees, Xanadu, 2112 / The Trooper, Sign of the Cross, The Clansman, Alexander TG). Loved the reacion and that Tasha was 1000% into it. Additional requests from Maiden, To tame a land, Caught Somewhere in Time, The Nomad, The Duellists, Blood Brothers)
to tame a land is so underrated
One of my favorite Maiden songs...Awesome!
Iron Maiden, and in particular Steve Harris, are big fans of Prog rock groups.
In fact Harris often said that Maiden is more like a Prog rock group, just without keyboards.
I know they are fans of Jethro Tull, Yes and classic Genesis, back when Peter Gabriel was the singer.
So I wouldn't be surprised if Rush was an influence.
Yeaaaaahhhhh my favourite Maiden song! Masterpiece! And yes, my name is Alexander 💘 😻 💜
"MY Son, ask not for my Kingdom, for that which I leave is to Small fir thee......." King Philip of Macedonia
Literally wore this tape out about a dozen times,,, the concert tour that followed was Mind Melting.
Alexander the Great Conquered the entire known world world before he was 33 years old.
you can hear the bass strings slapping off of the wood in this..... incredible
One of the greatest songs ever
You are such a beautiful couple 💞
Your reactions are always so relaxing, thank you!!
This album has the best cover art ever! What gives iron maiden their unique style is Steve Harris’ galloping three finger bass.
A journey through history with iron maiden . Valiouable. Up the irons !
Steve Harris, Bassist and primary songwriter plus founder of Iron Maiden loved history.
THE GREAT GREEK KING WHO SPREAD GREEK CIVILIZATION TO THE EASTERN WORLD , FELL IN LOVE WITH ROXANNE OF AFGHANISTAN REGION AND MARRIED..... GOD BLESS EPIC HISTORY OF AWESOMNESS !!
It's a history lesson every time with iron maiden. I looked up stuff poems books everything I could find out about the songs they wrote about. Even the TV show the prisoner.
I passed a college essay exam with the help of this song, got an A too, thanks Steve Harris haha

Thanks to this song I actually got a B+ on a paper my 11th grade year. So they actually used what was called guitar synthesizers which allow a guitarist to access synthesizer capabilities. I believe it was the first album they used them on. Love your reactions. "Up the IRONS!" \m/\m/
I first heard this song when I was about 12 and It was one of my first experiences of the genre.
And the thing is I was a gamer back then so I played games like Age of Mythology and
Rome:Total War and spent alot of time immersed in mythology and ancient history and when I heard this I was like "Woah there is music not about boring normal adult stuff but things I actually care about? Cool!"
'blood everywhere and fighting" i love it
One of the best bands ever.I love them.
I still have a lacquered dugout w/ this album cover on it. Had it since 87.
They do such a great job of immersing you into the story. Just like a really well made movie does.
🤘"YOU TWO AND DOUBLE GUITAR SOLOS"🤘
Shout out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you once again for playing my request... How can you learn so much yet rock so hard? Iron Maiden is the answer..
Funny you mentioned the synthesizer. In the early days of Maiden, a fan asked Bruce Dickinson about adding synth to their music. Bruce replied, "You can't do metal with synthesizers". He was totally against it completely. Later on, they incorporated it into their music. After all, Bruce does have a Doctorate in Music.. (No joke) look it up.
One of my favorite channels. Appreciate ya!
old maiden is always so melodic and powerful
Iron maiden always been my favorite history teacher.
I saw this tour and it was great
I actually got extra credit in high school in english lit for having the record with rime of the ancient mariner
I’ve been an iron maiden fan since I was 7 years old. Now I am 28 and still get goosebumps every time I hear this into
Awesome Reaction video!
There was great metal before IRON MAIDEN, there will be after. But to me there can be only one "GREATEST" Maiden will always be the epitome, the greatest of all time.
Long live the kings.
They should have write songs about the period after the Alexander-The hellenistic era. Imagine a hellenistic cataphract dueling with a Parthian counterpart in an high mountain arid river valley in Afghanistan
Yet another history lesson 👏
On the subject of Rush and Iron Maiden, I always remember this statement from Neil Peart in 1983, "If you think that we have to please the fans that like Iron Maiden and Saxon and AC/DC - I know I have nothing in common with those people, so I can't possibly hope to be able to relate to them on their level unless I play down or unless I talk down or think down, basically." He didn't often get things as wrong as that, because there was a large crossover between Iron Maiden fans and Rush fans, and Iron Maiden clearly learned a thing or two about making progressive music in a hard rock context from Rush. The synths on this track are actually guitar synths. Maiden didn't add keyboards to their sound until Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.
I don't know you, other than through you talking to the world through these reactions. But I think, I KNOW, that we'd become friends. You have the right attitude, the openess. I don't make friends easily. I'm closed. But I read people and you're easy to read. At least, by people like me. You're one of the good guys. Well-wishes from Belgium.
Well, only´s missing is that his body is lost, his tomb´s location was a secret. Also, he was submerged in honey, to preserve the body.
Bars....you cannot deny the fact that Bruce is dropping bars on this one.
Great (no pun intended ;)
These solos again... 😍
Thanks for your channel. You are great.
Don’t sleep on their latest album Senjutsu! In my top 3 Maiden Albums!
Great reaction! And now you must react to the songs TO TAME A LAND, PASCHENDALE, THE LONGEST DAY, MONTSÉGUR, THE LEGACY, THE LONELINESS OF THE LONG DISTANCE RUNNER or THE NOMAD, I don't know why peoples never react to those songs???????????🤔
Great song, album and cover.
Eu amo tanto essa música 💕
When everything would have been clearer if Bruce Dickinson had been your history teacher ...
alucinante
Run to the Hills is a great song also
Something no one has mentioned.... there are hidden maiden signs in every album cover. And I'm sure a lot didn't know there were actual trading cards
Thank you for choosing maiden..
MOM: Turn that loud noise down.
SON: But Mom, I'm studying for a history exam! LOL Got that joke from someone else!
me and my team won a pub quiz because of this song - lol, The answer to the tie break question was 'He died of fever in Babylon'! the other team put Macedonia! thanks Steve!!!!!
havent heard this track in years. soooo good.
Since there is a Dune movie coming out later this year you should react to To Tame a Land before then :)
the most metal history lesson ever
Just remember, Bruce Dickinson is a historian
Alexander the Great ....the greatest Macedonian ever. Epic song. Up the Irons \m/
HELLAS for ever
I don't know if you like more intense Metal, but if you do you should check out Entombed's Clandestine album. But if you want to be able to understand the lyrical content, you might wanna read a few occult books such as 'The 3 Books of Occult Philosophy', 'A 4th Book of Occult Philosophy'', ' Grimorium Verum', and 'Luciferianism and The Left Hand Payh' . Than you'll have a good understanding of a lot of the lyrics on that album.
The middle section sounds like old Genesis.
History's national anthem!
Love it🤘🙂🤘
if you havent reacted to Revelations yet you should....its my favorite Iron Madien song
I’m not sure how much influence Rush had on Maiden. I’ve never heard Maiden ever mention them. Steve Harris was influenced by progressive rock bands, so it’s not out of the question, but he seems to mention mostly British bands as influences. Most of the synth sound on this album was guitar synths that guitarist Adrian Smith proposed. He’s probably the most pop influenced member of the band and in the mid-80s guitar synths we’re becoming more popular so he wanted to experiment with them. Judas Priest’s Turbo was released earlier in the same year, but Somewhere in Time works the sound in much better.
If you really want to hear an influence of Maiden listen to Beckett “Life’s Shadow” and you will hear parts that really sound like Maiden’s Hallowed be thy Name and Nomad.
Damn good stuff. You guys rule
I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for 5:32 - 8:00. Such a beautiful piece
