Iron Maiden were secretly set up by professors and historians to educate us about history and literature.
Thank You for doing so. I got an A on an Alexander the Great test in 11th grade because I knew the lyrics to the song. "Up the IRONS!" 🤘
Haha.
Lmao
My classmate in 1985 English lit brought in the album to play rhyme of the ancient mariner The professor was quite impressed Despite being 58 years old
@@terryconnelly484 Beautiful.
Kids should be sent for an Iron Maiden School to learn history and literature... Metal education reform plan right now! 🤘✏️
This song is about how an Egyptian Pharaoh is dying and believes he shouldn't die because he is a God. All the power and all the wealth in the world can't stop you being a slave to the power of death!
The entire album rocks
Except for the song ''Back in the Village'' ... yes
@@MotoKringles every song rocks 🤘🤘
One of top three Maiden albums along with Killers and Somewhere in time.
@@MotoKringles god I love Back in the Village
Back in the village freaking Rocks! Up the IRONS!!!!!\m/
Not a commercial hit by any means but "Flash of the Blade" from the Power Slave album is one of their best songs ever.
That intro man, that intro.
Flaah of the Blade and The Duellists are criminally underrated. Imo they're the best songs in Powerslave (along with title track) but they get eclipsed by the more popular ones
A perfect song
There was a lot of metal in 1984, but this was the best. Maiden had come off a string of amazing albums: Killers, Number of the Beast, and Piece of Mind, and they were EASILY the biggest metal band in the world. Powerslave showed they were not only tge biggest, they were clearly the most talented. Hands down. No one was better!!!
Facts! I was 14 and this album blew my mind.
Yep. For two years, this was the greatest metal album of all time. Since 1986, it's had to take second place to Master of Puppets. And there is no shame in that!
When my daughter was six years old she would be in the back seat of the car telling me to put on....Can I play with madness.
She loves that song
Favorite Maiden song. Love the Egyptian theme.
Steve Harris is a God
This entire album is a masterpiece!! I remember sitting in my room jamming to this for hours, when it was released! Fuck, I’m getting old! Can still play every drum line of this album, and Number Of The Beast! Hail Maiden!🤘🏼
@@anthonyowusu2856 I agree wholeheartedly. Steve Harris and Cliff Burton are legends! Steve is a cyborg for sure.
nicko played a drumkit with no drumheads on the bottom of the toms and floor tom on this album. these kind of drums are called concert toms. they have a very particular sound that is very powerful.
Nikko was straight outta control on this track! This album remains a high-water mark for classic heavy metal.
Thanks for that. I always wondered how Nicko achieved his sound on this album. His drums sound so unique. No other Maiden album sounded like this and I could telll he was doimg something unique with his drums and percussion.
When I learned this on guitar I felt like the biggest Badass ever. I saw maiden in st Louis a couple years ago and they still kill it. It was fun
Maiden songs, especially earlier ones, are very good for practicing guitar, and
once you understand guitar and start to get the hang of it, there are plenty of
songs where even the solos are doable, because of the patterns in their music.
Flash Of The Blade and The Duellists off this album too, do those!
oh, I see you are a man of culture as well. Those are my favorites.
@@markogjorgiev4912 Oh yes. Great energy in those songs, amongst my favourite from Maiden.
@@markogjorgiev4912 Tip my imaginary hat to you. Those are also my favs. The Duellists may just be my #1 Maiden track
Like the man said, "Power corrupts, Absolute power corrupts absolutely."
I feel like I'm on a horse galloping towards battle everytime I hear Iron Maiden
Accurate
Nikko Mcbrain is such a good drummer. Really drives the song and accentuates changes. Love how his snare and cymbal sounds.
I was fortunate enough to see them on their Powerslave tour in Chicago back in the day. So freaking awesome!
I know you like Testament and guess what... they did a cover of this song. It's awesome.
I’m on it
the sound overall is better in testament's cover but original vocals and the touch of the original solos...
Saw them live during this tour in the mid-80’s. Unreal stage set up and performance.
🎶 Just another Iron Maiden history lesson 🎶
This album , in my opinion, is the apex of Iron Maiden's ascension to metal's Worldwide acclaim! What an album, what a band!! Up the Irons from Arkansas! 🤟
Well put
You should do some songs of Iron Maiden "Live After Death" 1985
You should listen to losfer words off the same album. It's an awesome instrumental.
Exactly girl...how do you forget about how awesome Iron Maiden is!?!? LOL 😆
Iron Maiden!!!!!🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼 Nuff said!!
In my humble opinion, arguably the greatest metal band of this, and really, any era!
NOT "Arguably"....They simply ARE the BEST METAL BAND of all time!!
Excellent reaction. One of my favorites. Powerslave is about how all who live from beggar to king cannot escape the power of death. "Slave to the power of death." No escaping it, Death rules us all. The fun part is pranking death a couple of times before you go.
Their best album start to finish
Idk man, Seventh Son of the Seventh Son exists.
Most bands can't even dream of releasing an album half as good as either of those.
@@SylviusTheMad You right.
@@spideyman2099 That album is almost perfect... Can I Play w/ Madness, I just can't do that song.
I don't know. They have "the trio". Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, and Powerslave. You can post up valid arguments for either of those albums being "the best".
Oh my God Tosha you were awesome on this video.. I felt your passion in singing that. Iron Maiden does that to me every song and has since the first time I heard them..🤘🤘🔥🔥
Has one of my very favourite guitar solos of all time on this. Just sublime
'The Duelist' is an overlooked gem, off this same album(It's better than all their 'newer' stuff) // Also you should hear/see Steve N Seagulls perform Aces High // Also
'Where Eagles Dare' is one of their best songs
The entire album is great. "Back in the village" is a banger!
Flash of the Blade
@@bschuler6216 ??
YES, finally someone other than me mentions The Duellists!
lol, Thanks for reacting to this amazing song..., i would suggest Sign of The Cross(Live, Rock in Rio 2001) and The Talisman( Live, En Vivo), Iron Maiden's story telling at their best, plus being Live Performances, can't go wrong with Maiden Live..., Also about Bruce Dickinson's solo work( you already heard a song called "Trumpets of Jericho" in one of your Live Listening Party Videos). I suggest Bruce Dickinson , "Book of Thel".., Tasha and You will love that song.., insane singing, heavier riffing.., super cool story too..., Cheers!!!!!, More Maiden!!!!!!!!
One of my fave songs. It's simply awesome musically and lyrically.
Iron maiden are a great advertisement for the postwar English school system. You didn't escape that schooling without learning a bunch about literature and history.
"Now I am cold but a ghost lives in my veins,
Silent the terror that reigned -
Marbled in stone
A Shell of a man God preserved -
For thousand ages,
But open the gates of my hell -
I'll strike from the grave."
You guys missed this part. The curse of the pharaohs. Think the Carter expedition.
Iron Maiden - The Mercenary
Greetings from Finland
One of the most epic bands ever
Best solo section they ever produced as far as I'm concerned.
What you said about Dio is correct... at least, according to Bruce.
He once said in an interview that he would like that when it's all over that he will have accomplished as much as Dio in the way of singing.
I personally think he has surpassed him, but that's just my opinion.
The Three Tremors... Bruce is the Air Raid Siren, Rob Halford is the Screaming Eagle, Dio is the Leather Lung.
Metal Forever!
Up the Irons!
You are awesome. Keep going. Many years and hundreds of songs await.
Steve Harris's counter melody at 5:32 is probably my favorite bass line in metal.
I feel like everyone gets hung up on the classic gallop and forgets that Steve has made tons of incredibly melodic lines, even if they're just solo background lol. The instrumental break in The Duellists has my fav bass playing in Maiden, which is saying a lot since Steve is amazing
Iron Maiden- Alexander The Great, its a brilliant story telling song. Great reaction
hehehe, your wife wouldn't listen to The Clansman based on the title, but will listen to Powerslave.
Freshman in H.S. when this came out.....wore this cassette out, lol.
If You want a history lesson You really have to listen to "Alexander the great" epic song
Yep, 1st time I listened was in 1989 and I had to look in to history books of who he was... :)
Great song to react to. More Maiden songs to do, to tame a land, 7th son of a 7th son and where eagles dare. They also had some cool b-sides, like black bart blues, cross eyed Mary, rainbow's gold, king of twilight and many others.
Keep going on that album...2 minutes to midnight & aces high are the BEST!
That galloping bass is the entire feel of this song.
Nailed it! I loved when you zeroed in on the pharaoh getting mummified, pleading with Death. To bring it full circle for me, When he goes to the other side (great catch in the music!) instead of Warning the next pharaoh, “YO, look out for Death!” He seeks revenge and joins the lie he despised. Up the irons!
Face in the Sand. Perhaps their most over-looked song. Simply incredible!!
FYI Powerslave is an extended metaphor with some occult window dressing about the rigors of touring in a band. ;)
I saw them twice on this tour in 1985. AMAZING tour. Still at the top of the list for stage setup and set changes. It was like watching a play. As always... Maiden is flawless in concert.
Blaze Bayley is the singer you forgot. You should definitely check out his solo stuff, it's definitely better suited for his voice than the classic Maiden stuff. Anything from the The Night That Will Not Die dvd will show you how powerful his voice is when the songs are written for him. Voices from the Past and Samurai in particular are belters.
Good one, you should react to anything off of live after death. Best maiden concert ever.
Bruce was also an Egyptologist. He took part on several excavations in Egypt. There really isn't much this man couldn't or didn't do.
Juan Ponce De León was the guy looking for the fountain of youth.
I closed my comment too soon. YES on the DIO. If you haven't exposed her to LAST IN LINE that is probably their best most amazing song with mad vocals.
I think it was Ponce DeLeon that was looking for Fountain of Youth
Do more Iron Maiden . Enough said. You two are great
Back in the days when music was made.. love the bass line in this song.
Favorite band. Mini movies in my head.
When you guys did that little harmony at the beginning I was very impressed :) Y'all got some great voices :D
Great album, great song!
I played this cassette til it warped to hell, then I bought another copy, & did it again. I haven't really listened to the whole album in decades, but I still know every note, every drum beat, every word.
Maiden was my favorite all through HS, and I think, musically, it did a great service to my future musical journey.
The chorus drives into me like a freight train!!!!!
You guys GITTA give credit to the bass player and main song writer, Steve Harris. Check out "a loss for words" from the Poweslave album. Steve deserves credit for his bass playing!!
My favourite guitar solos ever
Definitely more Maiden! Try a live video. They released a documentary in 2008 of their World Tour, called Flight 666, which is fantastic. They play 36 shows in 42 days with Bruce flying their plane as Captain. The whole documentary is great, showing how fans across the world react to their live shows, on top of showcasing the band's undeniable talent. Thanks and please keep the Maiden songs coming!
Finished off the song with a Phrygian Major chord. Perfectly placed.
I will send you the link to Empire of the clouds by Iron Maiden
I've always loved the solo on this song, so I've been playing it on my guitar for a while, and with most songs, I do check the lyrics, but not all, and I guess I never really bothered to look at the lyrics. So thank you for explaining it haha! Absolutely amazing song, next time I play the solo it will have a new meaning!
The Egyptian sound is due to the use of the Phrygian scale. Yep... It fits perfectly
The Nomad is worth a listen and has a bit of a middle eastern feel.
You two do an awesome job! Please keep up the excellent breakdowns!
React to this song again but the live version at 1985
When I get Iron Maiden stuck in my head it's never loud enough !
I was thinking the same thing as Tasha, how can you forget about Iron Maiden and then she said it😂. Also check out some earlier stuff with Paul D’Anno and also some from the album Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.
The Force of Metal is strong in you 2, Keep it up. I love this song, thanks for the reaction, you really enjoyed it.
Is there anything more awesome than two beautiful people headbanging to these legends? You two are so awesome!!! Thanks for letting me enjoy this with you.
I’ve answered questions on Jeopardy cuz of this amazing band
I’ve never watched you guys before but BOY you guys sure are a pleasure to watch!!!! What great attitudes.
Most beautiful reaction from iron maiden I've ever seen, 💕 you both ,need more positive people on earth like you!¡!
Mrs T is doing her UA-cam job at the perfection.
But I think she like Iron Maiden more and more.
22 Acacia Avenue by the boys, especially live, rock in rio? Hammersmith Odeon?
Whatever,they always kill it.
Seeing Maiden live should be on EVERYONES bucket list, metal fan or not.
Like Floyd live, its a fucking event in your life you never forget.
Seventh Son of a Seventh is a must
And "Infinite Dreams".
I've been waiting for someone to react to this. That interlude is my favorite, along with the one in Rush La Vila Strangiato.
Love this song! Thanks.
Fountain Of Youth guy = Ponce De Leon
Savatage did a song that mentions him (The Fountain Of Youth).
Savatage is another band you will have to explore. Lots of assorted topics like Maiden.
The other singer you mentioned, was Blaze Bayley.
It's about time! Powerslave is not only an epic song, but an epic album too. They did their world Slavery tour that lasted about 2 years non stop! You must do their song (Alexander The Great) next. I put it in my Patreon requests a long time ago. \m/
Great reaction, I never considered that the solo had another purpose than just sounding awesome. You should check out all of the songs from their En Vivo concert, you can't go wrong. When the Wild Wind Blows in particular is a great song of more recent vintage.
Great breakdown Tasha.
THE BEST BAND EVER
Excellent, Powerslave is one of my favorites.
Some don't like it much, but I personally loved Bruce Dickenson's solo album Tattooed Millionaire. Check out Gypsy Road from it. Think you'll enjoy it.
You can never forget how awesome the goat is tee come on now🤘🔥🔥.. never go wrong with Iron Maiden 🤘.. you guys rock another great reaction as always🔥
Love the reaction, keep ‘em coming 🙌
Damn it, now I have to go and listen to Rime Of The Ancient Mariner!
Lol, I was just about to suggest making playlists for everything, just as you mentioned in the vid.
It helps when looking for a song to request & not sure if you'd reacted to it or not.
...btw, I got a great idea for the requests I've been saving up...I'll try to get that on the Patreon today.
I know I've said that before, & there's a reason. I'll fill you in later.
Have a great day & rock out with ypur **** out!
🤘😁🤘
Awesome reaction!, thanks!, you guys are on point 👉
More Maiden More Maiden....
Sun & Steel never gets the credit it totally deserves....I thoroughly enjoyed your reactions to "Powerslave"..."Aces High" deserves a listen too.
Was just rewatching this, mainly for the song, but damn, does Maiden know how to end a song or what?
Lol 🤘😁
Next to Metallica, Iron Maiden is my favorite metal group.
My classmate in 1984 English lit brought in the album to play rhyme of the ancient mariner The professor was quite impressed Despite being 58 years old
More Iron Maiden. Any song will do! Great reaction! One of my very favorite songs and album from them.
This was my album in High School!
