Hello guys. Welcome back. And let’s just go to dark side first thing, eh? Maiden brings it to heavy metal in ways that are exclusively their own.
Enjoy the whole catalogue of the music. You’re both so very good at grasping the heart of the songs.
The signature changes in tunes are hallmark Iron Maiden and the guitar work all the the way through feels like solo. And the melody is always held. Bruce Dickinson’s vocals are a standard in metal.
Terrific to see you guys again.
    Cheers and Slán

The original Macedonia, part of Ancient Greece between Epirus and Thrace not the current state at the north of Greece. The state of the so called "North Macedonia" is the result of multiple political decisions (made by Russians, Bulgarians, Soviets, Tito leader of Yugoslavia, Americans etc. mostly throughout 20th century. The previous name of this state was Vardarska, part of Yugoslavia but Tito changed that to Macedonia because Yugoslavs for centuries (they arrived in Balcan peninsula at 6th - 7nth century A. D.) wanted to have under control the port of Thessaloniki. Under Tito's instructions Yugoslav scholars constructed a convenient history and "language" for the former state of Vardarska. So the residents of Vardarska which mostly are a mix of Yugoslavs and Bulgarians and speak a dialect of Bulgarian language they start to be teached that they are descendants of the Ancient Macedonians. Imagine the white colonists who appeared in America after 15th century A. D. to claim the history of native Americans who live there thousands of years b. C...

Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer, is a very interesting fellow. He has had a long side career as an airline pilot in the UK. When the band has gone on big global tours, he has also flown the band's airplane. He has done some documentary videos about aviation as well. It is funny seeing him in airline pilot mode, in uniform and looking very professional, then seeing him up on stage fronting one of the biggest heavy metal bands in the world.

Bruce Dickinson (lead singer) has done a few solo albums outside of Iron Maiden, definitely worth checking out, starting with Tears Of The Dragon.
As for being educational, I think I’ve suggested it before, check out Sabaton, 95% of their music is inspired by military history, whether it’s actual battles/events, historical figures or acts of heroism, and they tell each story from a mostly unbiased point of view.
Bismarck is a good starting point, about the German WWII battleship, the music video is fantastic too.

Lads I'm so glad that you listen Alexander The Great track of Maiden.. This song is one of the most virtuosical song of entire Maiden songs. The guitar solos, the keyboards, the melody, the historical lyrics, this song can really take you back to the time when Alexandros was alive and conquer the world. I was just 6 years old when this album (Somewhere in Time) was released in 1986. I bought it as a casette (on that time casettes was very popular) Also this was my first Maiden album and was my first Heavy Metal album.. And this was my fav track of the entire album. Interestingly Maiden never played live this song on their concerts.
And about Alexander, he was not a Roman warrior. He lived before the Roman Empire has been founded. He was a King of Macedon but conquered the entire Greece and became an King of Hellen. Later he conquered Balkans, Anatolia, Persia, Egypt, the entire Middle-East and became an Emperor and later he continue to conquer Asia Minor and even India. He is considering as the First Emperor of the entire History. And he made a record of his time as the most larger Empire. (Before the Romans of course) He paved the Hellenism to the entire Asia and the Middle-East and so he paved the Roman Empire after he passed away. Ancient Roman Empire has been considering that highly inspired by Alexander's Empire. Many historians say that if Alexander was not lived, the Romans were never existed too. Years after many Roman Emperors personally collected his coins and seals. And this song is a brief history lesson about Alexander's life. The entire lyrics of this song is highly precise except one thing; Some historians thinking that Alexander was poisoned. So there are lots of unending arguments about if he died from a fever or was poisoned when he was in persia. UP THE IRONS ! 🤗🗡👑🤘🖤🔥

@@michaelmabrey6969 Nice! When I was younger, a lot of their songs led me to researching the history of what the songs were about; Alexander the Great was the song that had me researching Alexander and how incredible he was. They have so many songs about history, as well as literature.
I've since introduced Maiden to my friends' 16 year old daughter by utilizing the history element of the band. Since then, I have given her Maiden shirts that she wears to school, and she tells her robotics class to listen to Maiden; she gets compliments from her teachers for her musical taste...long live Maiden in the next generation!

A lot of times I play the "what if" game with fellow history buffs pondering what if Alexander had not died so soon. I figure he would have gone after Carthage for helping Tyre hold out against Alexander's siege for such a lengthy time. Then he would have taken on and defeated the Roman Republic, which wasn't nearly as strong as it would become during Hannibal's time more than a century later. At that point, he would have ruled over all the Mediterranean area and eastern Asia.

That's today's lesson in Metal School.
The lead singer is Bruce Dickinson, (Paul Bruce Dickinson), also known as Bruce Bruce and the Human Air Raid Siren.
Check out another Iron Maiden song, "Rainmaker", from my other favorite Iron Maiden album. It's a positive song.
Oh, and that's a nice mustache that you had going on, Walker.

Wow! I don't think anyone has ever reacted to this great song. I don't think the band has ever played it live!

Alexander the Great was iconic because he became the King of Macedonia at age 19, and began the conquest of Asia Minor in his early 20's, before the coming of the Roman Empire... In a decade, he amassed an army that marched from Northern Greece thru what is Bulgaria and Turkey today and went South to Egypt... His Macedonian Empire successfully conquered regions of Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan...(that is a long stretch of land from the Balkans in Europe to Asia Minor) He infiltrated what is Pakistan today thru the Khyber Pass and was ultimately halted by the Indian armies... His exhausted armies refused to march any further after the defeat. He retreated to Babylon (it would be Iraq today) and died soon after.

An album about different time periods would be awesome! Maiden should take note of that.

Touring colleges + new Clemson gear = no Clemson for Claire?

Clemson probably won't be a great fit for the major she wants, plus she will most likely full scholarships from many colleges, but Clemson just doesn't give the money.

@@3YearsApart1613 Considering she reps their merch so often, maybe they should reconsider.
Fun fact: Alexander the Great became a legend amongst mortal men by beating armies 10 x's his own army's size simply by outflanking them.

The portion starting at 430 sounds like a Goblin song from the 1978 zombie movie Dawn of the Dead

Sitting here thinking how grown up Walker is, then he does pig nose just to prove me wrong. Who wants to grow up anyway. Maiden WW2 songs that I can think of, Aces High (the obvious one) and The Longest Day from A matter of Life and Death. It's about D day.

Claire you are champion. Bruce Dickinson is such a nerd he knows some much about history and religion and a number of different subjects from aviation to train travel.

On the Iron Maiden Album Virtual XI there is a song on memory of the Falkland (Malvinas) Island War between England vs Argentina (1982). Named Como estais Amigos . ua-cam.com/video/FONs4Ve51ys/v-deo.html
