I won't say it's underrated, it's well know for being one of the best maiden songs amongst maiden fans. Definitely into the top 10 songs for most fans I bet.
Like thousands of others it was Iron Maiden that got me hooked on history and poetry. Up The Irons!
The first 8 albums are all worth collecting and listening to. The 80's was Maiden's golden age
Derek Riggs was their cover artist for some time, did all the early album covers plus extra art for singles, this one was special as the band had little idea what to do for a cover so they allowed Derek to create the theme and add whatever he wanted, lots of hidden Easter eggs, he said it's one of his favorites yet was the most difficult, he worked up to the 11th hour finishing this album cover. Sidenote: I passed a college history final essay using these song lyrics as crib notes, got an A, thanks Steve Harris - haha

I passed so many history tests because of Iron Maiden. This song in particular got me interested in ancient Greece as a child, and now I'm a Classicist. I like to throw that in my mom's face since she used to call all my metal music "stupid racket." Lol

Fun thing about listening to Maiden is trying to figure who does what solo and where the transitions are to the next soloist starts since they all have unique styles of playing plus how many solos the songs bring🔥
i find it easier to hear who plays the solo by just listening to if the sound of the guitar is primarily from left or right (or center in the newer albums with the third guitarist), the guitar sound itself can also be a giveaway since they all dont have the exact same sound
History lessons by Iron Maiden are the best.
Despite being much abridged, the events described, and the actins of Alexander, are fairly accurately told in this song. It is in fact a history lesson set to song. Remarkable
When I was 16 I bought this LP on cassette and from there my life changed!

I passed so many history classes because of Iron Maiden and a few other power-metal bands. This song likely fertilized my brain to become a Classicist as an adult. The Classical and Hellenic Mediterranean is an obsession of mine.

Great review. Song is from Somewhere in Time back in 1986. They had never played it live UNTIL May of 2023. Song had been requested by Iron Maiden fans for years to be played live. From the videos I've seen online the fans are going crazy when they play it. Fear of the Dark by Iron Maiden is another one you need to check out. My favorite Iron Maiden song followed by Alexander the Great.

Also, Maiden are doing a new tour in 2023 and the theme is "The Future Past", there's the hope that they finally include this in the setlist as they've never performed it live. Hope your vids stop getting blocked, don't know the secret as plenty of people have done reactions to the songs/artists you did that got blocked, I'd say check out the first 2 albums, different vocalist but still some of their coolest songs - Up The Irons!
