“ The person is smart. People are dumb, stupid, panicky animals and you know it.“ One of my favorite movie quotes of all time
Truth!
I thought i was the only one who thought this!
Accurate to real life
And absolutely true!
My favourite quote as well.
"Casablanca" is considered one of the top 5 movies ever made. Worth a reaction.
I Second a "Casablanca" Reaction and raise "The Maltese Falcon" with Bogart.......
@@F1rstWorldNomaD Just me, but I would definitely put it up there: tight, rich script that understands the time it's living in and pays tribute to the several escapees and refugees from Europe who are in this movie; layered, flawed characters who invite argument and discussion from us, and all played by gifted actors; humor as well as drama; Dooley Wilson in a rare 1940s depiction of an intelligent and creative man of color; and, of course, the music.
considered by people born in 1930s maybe
@@Marionney Well, I don't the birth year of a viewer matters if the movie is good; and there are certain things in human nature that just don't really change. When a story manages to tap deep enough into those things, it can become timeless. I believe "Casablanca" is one of those types of stories. Incidentally, I myself was not born in the 1930s.
@@Marionney I was born in 1981 and consider Casablanca an all-time classic.
I love the scene where they interview Edgar's wife... because she literally made them lemonade, but couldn't make it right because someone ATE ALL THE SUGAR! It's the little things like that.. the attention to detail, which makes this such a good movie.
I never picked up on that, that's so funny!
Good catch.. but why the hell is she offering guests sugarless lemonade?! Either there was no sugar or maybe she just really doesn’t know how to make simple drinks and dishes lol Edgar did say her dinner looked like poison🤣🤣
"Never seen it. Should I see Casablanca?" Yes!!! Only one of the best films ever made.
Linda Fiorentino is a great actress. One of my personal favorites she plays in is Kevin Smith's "Dogma"
Good luck finding that one, but yes, it's great. 🙂
@@oscardiggs246 you can find the full movie on YT
Always remember when her character meets the Metatron. Alan Rickman is great in Dogma too.
@@Greeny1308 Usually I prefer to watch a legitimate copy, but given who owns the movie, I'll make an exception.😃
Dogma is a fantastic film
One of the greatest sci-fi/comedy films in '97. Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Vincent Donofrio and many more were an amazing outstanding cast.
D'Onofrio is one of the most incredible actors. I always forget everything he's ever done when I'm watching him in a role, because he embodies whatever role he's in.
the late, great Rip Torn.....loved him in Larry Sanders
Your reaction made the movie better! You should definitely watch "Casablanca."
Yes, I agree!
"Tommy Lee Jones Got A Happy Ending" is the name of my band for the next ten minutes
🤣
Big fan of this movie growing up, and I really like the whole trilogy honestly. Glad you enjoyed it, it's a really fun romp.
@@F1rstWorldNomaD There was a later one with Thor or Thor's brother but it was bad.
@@ajivins1you shall require an eye exam
Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith have great chemistry in this movie. Both 2 and 3 are good also.
No they aren't
2 is bad and 3 is okay
(Funnily enough, they have almost perfect audience scores reflecting this: 90%, 30% and 60%)
@@kimghanson funny, i feel its the other way around.
@@whade62000 shit take. 2 and 3 are great. scores for movies are completely and utterly worthless.
Casablanca… it’s not a question of should but must. It’s on the top list of any film buffs list of all time greats. A delightful romance set in a crazy time with two of the biggest stars of their time: Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart. PS: you will hear the phrase “round up the usual suspects” which was nudge nudge winked to with the title: The usual
Suspects.
I cannot agree more emphatically. One, it's perfect. Two, it's an incredibly influential movie for pretty much every filmmaker of the past 70 years. Three, it's hella fun to watch people react to it.
And Jen, read a bit on the historical background of the time it is set in. Most of the actors were actual refugees from Nazi Germany, and when the film was released in 1942, there wasn't any assurance the Allies would defeat Hitler.
"N-Y-P-D means I will KNock Your Punk-a** Down!" Cracks me up every single time.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Fantastic supporting cast! Vincent D'Onofrio, Tony Shalhoub, Rip Torn and Linda Fiorentino were all perfect in their roles. And Barry Sonnenfeld too. The dog interrogation scene had me on the floor 🤣 I don't know how Tommy Lee Jones kept a straight face!
Yes, watch Casablanca! MIB 2 & 3 are worth watching too.
True story: my wife and I got a black cat in 1988 (way before this movie) named Orion. He had tiny white spots on his chest that looked like a star field
The Fugitive , US Marshals, double jeopardy are just a few of my favorite movies Tommy Lee Jones is in
You forgot to mention the Coen brothers' No Country For Old Men
Lonesome Dove (1989), if you're into westerns.
The hunted
I was going to waste a whole comment on this but yes see all of these movies Jen! You will love USMarshals I just know it
Vincent D'Onofrio is fantastic as Edga the Bug, with all of the awkward physical acting. My favorite bit is when he's parked in the exterminator's van outside the jewelry store, trying to 'act casual,' and he can't control the arms.
Rip Torn (Zed) has my favorite line in the movie: "The twins keep us on Centaurian time, standard thirty-seven hour day. Give it a few months. You'll get used to it... or you'll have a psychotic episode."
Every time I get stressed out at work, I think of that last sentence (...so I think about it a lot. LOL)
Fave line in the movie is after he pulls the coffee table over and he looks at the other guy and goes “You wanna get down on this?” 😂
My pick for a great sci-fi/comedy would be The Last Starfighter.
Nominated for 3 Oscars
Best Production Design
Best Original Score
Best Makeup.
It won the Latter.
I sae this on VHS Christmas Day 1997 and it's pretty impressive and hilarious! A fun Sci Fi action comedy film thats epic and memorable.
I don't know if I'm impressed or scared that your impression of Edgar's wife was spot-on by the end.
Yeah, it really seems like you had a blast watching this movie. You were clearly having so much fun the whole time. Like you seem to like a lot of movies, but this one you REALLY seemed to get into.
Iirc, in the novelization of the movie, they outright state that J's interpretation of the gun range scenario is actually correct, and the only actual threat to human life in the target range is the girl.
Love the reaction. 2 is good as well. 3 is a fun pastiche of older sci-fi tropes. And echoing everyone else that Casablanca is a must watch.
You said you really had a blast watchin this movie. I can believe that because you were talking and enjoying the heck out of it. And that makes it much more enjoyable to those of us who join you on these journeys. We don't watch this for the movie, we watch it for you, the hostess with the mostess. Very well done Jen, very well indeed.
Jen you’re the best. This was one of my favorite reacts that I’ve watched of yours. When you mimicked Egger Suit and A Pet Cat I was dying !
😂👍 Thanks Charles! This movie is sooo fun!! 🔫👽
22:12 - That actor is Vincent D'Onofrio who played Kingpin in the Netflix Daredevil show. He also played "Thor" in the teen comedy, Adventures in Babysitting (1987).
The coroner is played beautifully by Linda Florentino. She is also wonderful in Dogma(1999) starring with Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek and Alan Rickman.
And you can't find that movie anywhere now.
@@wadeduffy9101 Why not?
@@HobGungan Dogma was released by Miramax, then owned by Disney. Miramax was started by Harvey Weinstein. Disney, in an effort to distance themselves from the controversial film, sold all rights to the Weinstein Company. We all know what happened then.
Short answer: the rights are tied up in legal limbo and likely to remain so for a long time.
@@HobGungan "Dogma (1999) has its distribution rights owned by Bob and Harvey Weinstein personally. They have declined at least two offers to sell the rights back to Kevin Smith, and are not allowing the film to be bought, rented, or streamed digitally for reasons of their own."
The actor playing Edgar is Vincent D'Onofrio and yes, he's fabulous!
Two important things to say:
1) Casablanca is one of the greatest movies of all time - make it a priority watch.
2) HELLO BANJO
I am surprised that nobody mentioned Jack Sholder's "The Hidden" (1987) with Kyle MacLachlan in the leading role.
This little known movie was the main influence for the "Edgar Costume".
Also highly recommendable movie, full of action and a great soundtrack.
OF COURSE you should see Casablanca!!! An all time great classic old school romance.
The production team who made this had gained a great deal of credibility from the success of their earlier work, "The Addams Family" and "Addams Family Values." They used the same font for the opening titles for this film, hoping to get some of the priors' good luck.
Casablanca is a must see. Pretty sure it’s one of the top five movies ever made. Go watch soon!
Kay’s character arc is what elevates this film.
Yes to Casablanca, with the addition of Banjo you might want to look into Deliverance but be advised that movie should come with a warning label!
For more Tommy Lee Jones check out The Fugitive with Harrison Ford and its "sequel" US Marshals with Robert Downey Jr and Wesley Snipes. Also check out No Country For Old Men by the Coen Brothers. And of course Men in Black 2 and 3 like others have suggested are a lot of fun. Oh, and check out Space Cowboys with Clind Eastwood!
Jen recently watched The Fugitive: ua-cam.com/video/NJTQ-VekCiU/v-deo.html
Yes, you should see Casablanca -- yesterday if possible. It is one you will wish you had seen earlier and one you can watch repeatedly with no regrets.
All the MIB films are good and well worth reacting to, Jen. 'Casablanca' is a great film and worth reacting to.
MIB International isn't very good
@@nimblehealer199 I agree, it was garbage. A great main cast wasted on such a dull film.
@@nimblehealer199 , that's one that I always forget about, somehow I seem to block it from my mind. 😄
I named my tortie cat Orion, after the cat in this movie as I watched it the night before adopting her. 🐈
Hey Jen! I am so enjoying your reactions more and more each time I watch them! "Casablanca" (1942) is DEFINITELY a movie to watch! It's one of the greatest black & white classics of all time. "MiB II" is also worth watching. Not better than the first but still worth a reaction (and good laughs). There are LOADS of sci-fi comedies, quite a few you have already reacted to in the past. Here are my suggestions: 1) "Time Bandits" (1981); 2) "Weird Science "(1985); 3) "Re-Animator" (1985); 4) "Short Circuit" (1986 - plus it's sequel); 5) "They Live" (1988); 6) "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey" (1991 - sequel); 7) the "Evil Dead" trilogy; 8) "Mars Attacks!" (1996); 9) "Starship Troopers" (1997) and 10) "Earth Girls Are Easy" (1989 - with Jeff Goldblum). Enjoy!
I would recommend skipping Evil Dead and going straight to Evil Dead 2. The tone of the original is 100% horror, and #2 is essentially a reboot, starting off with a complete remake of the original and growing into a new, more comedic tone.
Mars Attacks! Jack Nicholson Michael J Fox, Glenn Close, Pierce Brosnan, Danny DiVito, Natalie Portman, Martin Short among others
Some great movies there but I think you're stretching the definition of 'sci fi' or 'comedy' for a few of them haha
JEN: In case you didn't recognize him (his makeup was phenomenal) 'Jeebs' was played by the actor who starred as 'Monk'!
That the World is going to end..... "Did he say when?" One of my favorite scenes.
Hi Banjo. When you were doing your review at 29:29 Banjo’s tail popped out behind you and matches what you’re wearing so it almost looks like you sprouted a tail, which suits this movie. Ha ha
This:
"Dark Star is a 1974 American science fiction comedy film directed and produced by John Carpenter and co-written with Dan O'Bannon."
the actor who played edgar jen has played the kingpin in 3 seasons of marvels daredevil and 3 episodes of disney+ show hawkeye
I really hope you’re doing the whole series. MIB 3 is one of the best movies ever! The story and characters will melt your heart.
✨Hey so many of you guys are recommending THE FUGITIVE! I recently watched that one here ua-cam.com/video/NJTQ-VekCiU/v-deo.html 👍 Also on the channel are Galaxy Quest & Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure!
U. S. Marshalls then!
And watch Man of the House with your sister, it'll be a good one with both of you.
Hello, Banjo. Such a cute kitty, Jen. 🤗👍
Yes, you should definitely see "Casablanca." You will hear so many popular memes, and finally learn where they came from. 👍😃
hi jen yes definitely watch " capablanca" , its a classic . please do consider " nobody" its fantastic action made by john wick crew and is being compared to the wick movies .
U.S. Marshals is a good Tommy Lee Jones movie and it's also a spin-off of the Fugitive. I think you should give it a watch.
MiB 2 is my least favorite of all the MiB movies but 3 is actually amazing and on par with the 1st in my opinion. Definitely should continue the series
You should definitely see Casa Blanca. One of the most romantic, atmospheric films ever made. Probably gotta leave some modern cultural standards at the door, though. Edgar was played by a relatively young Vincent D'Onofrio. Dude has range.
Casablanca (1942) - Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman. A true classic, must see movie.
10:28 _"Should I see Casablanca?"_
Absolutely. But I would also recommend *Defending Your Life* (1991). I was reminded of it, as it has _Rip Torn,_ the guy in charge of MIB here you thought you recognized.
When Men in Black came out our local paper interviewed Lowell Cunningham, who is a friend of mine. They asked him if he was a big success and he said, "I'm just a local geek who made good." 😀I'll see him around town from time to time, in one of his many colorful bowling shirts, just blending in with the local crowds who don't know who he is. He is happy that he's not recognized by anyone who isn't a friend of his. 😀
A Tommy Lee Jones movie that most people haven't heard of is Man of the House. It's not great cinema, but it is a fun popcorn flick.
ABSOLUTELY see Casablanca.
Also, another great movie with Linda Fiorentino (the medical examiner) and with Anthony Edwards (Goose from Top Gun) is Gotcha!, a spy thriller with comedy in it. I seriously would love to see someone watch that for the first time. Hint hint. 😀
Random Tommy Lee Jones trivia: his roommate at Harvard was Al Gore.
Tommy Lee Jones plays the lead in Cobb if you're in the mood for a baseball movie.
I agree with whoever recommended Short Circuit as a sci fi comedy, but I'd also add Short Circuit 2.
I don't think I've ever heard "eww" so many times in such a short period of time! And yes you should definitely watch "Casablanca." "Here's lookin' at you kid."
An early film with Tommy Lee Jones in a supporting role is the mystery/suspense "The Eyes of Laura Mars" (1978), directed by Irvin Kershner ("SW V: The Empire Strikes Back"), and written by John Carpenter.
Another is "Stormy Monday" (1988) with Sean Bean and Melanie Griffith.
He is also terrific as Doolittle Lynn, Loretta Lynn’s husband, in Coal Miner’s Daughter.
10:29 "Should I see _Casablanca?"_
Absolutely. It's a piece of cinematic history.
Casablanca is on my channel
@@jenmurrayxo Oh. Pardon me. I've missed it. I'll get to it, one day.
The border agent who got slimed was in Firefly's Heart of Gold. He was Dance Burgess.
*Rance
Autocorrect strikes again?
Jen, you have a black and white cat? So do I! I love you for that! And your little dog is very adorable! I miss my little guy, but I still have my kitty. Glad you liked the movie! Tommy Lee Jones is awesome in this role. He's too cool and I love it!
If you're interested in Tommy Lee Jones movies a really good one was Space Cowboys...
1. Edgar/Bug = Vincent D'onofrio played Gomer Pyle in Full Metal Jacket.
2. Tommy Lee Jones' roommate in college was Al Gore. He also said once that he doesn't have a job, just a hobby that pays extremely well. 💲
3. MIB II isn't as good as this one.
4. Tell me this wasn't a fun movie. I dare you.
PS: A great Tommy Lee Jones movie is "Under Siege". He plays the heavy 👌
28:12 Scenes like this one lead me to believe that either this movie was intended as a standalone or the plans for sequels did not include Agent K.
Hi Jen,once again an excellent choice! 1 and 2 are great but after that IMO, just mediocre. Once a I'm going to suggest 2001 a space odyssey. For 1969 the special effects are amazing! This movie was directed by Stanley Kubrick. Some conspiracy theorists think he also was involved in filming the fake moon landing in the same year.(the effects were that good) my recommendations are for your channels benefit, not because personally like these films. I really hope you know that. I just wanted you to know that. I'm truly enjoying your channel.
The third one was the best IMO because of the twist.
Whenever I have someone tell me they think the moon landings were faked, I say, "Oh yeah, in fact they got Kubric to do the fiming... but he's such a perfectionist he insisted they shoot it all on location."
"Space Cowboys" is a great Tommie Lee Jones movie. It also stars Clint Eastwood who directed it. Another novelty is Clint's wife in this movie is the actress who played Mea 3 in the "A Taste of Armageddon" Star Trek episode, Barbara Babcock.
Yes, you should watch Casablanca. One of the great films of all time.
14:48 This scene was in the commercial for this movie. It fueled a _lot_ of conversation.
MIB is one of my top five favorite movies of all time. I've loved it since I was a kid in the 90's. It ages like a fine wine.
The response that, "I can't give up my family/friends and just disappear" makes a lot of sense, except to me.
I look at it as, "Wait, I get to get rid of all these people, and can disappear, and have a purpose? Where do I sign up?"
"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky..." Love this quote because it is extremely accurate, and I paraphrase it a lot!
Not Tommy as the lead, but 2 movies that pop to mind are Under Siege 1 (probably Steven Segall's best movie ... and considering he's an epic douche bag, it puts him in a decent action star light) and No Country for Old Men
One where he is the lead, is Volcano. I don't remember too much about it, but I did enjoy it when I first saw it. That was a long time ago though... and I do remember there being a broken sound in the edit that's kept in the movie.
Scifi comedy, first thing that comes to mind is Mel Brooke's spoof, Spaceballs. A movie I loved to death...literally! The VHS my dad had it on met its demise from me rewatching it way too much
Casablanca of course yes..but also one few have reacted too is The Maltese Falcon. Another classic Bogart movie.
Jen in Black ✌😎
Lol can't believe I didn't make that joke 🤦🏻♀️
Can't wait to see you do MIB 2. I liked it much better than the first one. And yes, you should see Casablanca!
MIB 3 is my favourite!
29:19 Say hi to Banjo. Hi Banjo!! Cute cat!
😻 He's a cool guy
RIP to the 1960 GMC farm pickup truck
Yes! You should see Casablanca! You won't regret it.
The guy in the Edgar suit is Vincent D'nofrio( I didn't spell that right. ) was Private Pyle in Full Metal Jacket, and eas one of the Detectives in CSI, Law & Order, one of those cop shows, from the '90's & 2000's
Jen, you truly need to watch Casablanca, it has everything you absolutely will enjoy, compelling atmosphere, WW II intrigue, complex/flawed characters, suspense, comedy, with a tragic love story woven throughout. "Here's looking at you, kid."
The coroner is another movie, Dogma. The giant roach is another movie, Full Metal Jacket. Two movies you should consider watching.
"He flashed him!"
AYO!
Love M.I.B, such a great movie.
Some Comedy Sci Fi recommendations, 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy', 'Guardians of the Galaxy', 'Paul', 'The Watch' and 'Mars Attacks!', all worth a reaction for the channel
And Spaceballs!
the alien bug is Vincent D'Onofrio, who also played Wilson Fisk in Daredevil!
29:15 Hello, Banjo! :)
Rick Baker was the EFX makeup artist he also did American werewolf in london make up. winner of several Oscars for EFX make up.
- It got two movie sequels, 2 is bad and 3 is okay. We don't talk about MiB: Invernational.
- The film is very different (better) from the Marvel comic short run. In the comics the MiB also handled supernatural things (vampires, werewolves etc.)
- The cartoon show based on the movie (MiB: The Series) is great and deserves more attention
25:16 "showdown at the giant globey thing!" Never change Jen! 🤣❤
Should’ve known that tactical Jen would surface during this movie 😋 Though the happy ending joke was probably my favorite. And since he got back with his wife he actually did get that kind 😉
You should ABSOLUTELY see Casablanca. It's an outstanding film.
1. HELLO Banjo! 2. Awesome reaction
Fun fact: The Worms and a couple of other aliens speak Huttese, the language that Jabba The Hutt speaks in Star Wars.
Also George Lucas's face appears on a board of known aliens. Basically implying that Star Wars actually happened in this film's universe and Lucas retold the story through his films.
"A long time ago, in a Galaxy Far Far Away" was literal in this film's world 😂
Many feel that Casablanca is the best film of all time. Some disagree, but the debate still rages to this day, and with good reason.
Wow,..MuchMusic...that brings back flashbacks from back in the day.
Good thing no one "flashy-thing"-ed me :)
Oh, and yeah, you really should watch it. Great movie.
Yes, you should see Cassablanca. Other Tommy Lee Jones movies: UNDER SIEGE and U.S. MARSHALLS, there are others but I haven't seen them. There are also two other MEN IN BLACK movies with Tommy Lee and Will Smith.
Of course you should see Casablanca. "This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship". It's just a classic.
Hey, another really great Will Smith film is "Hancock" (2008). I can't see why it never got sequels.
Timing, I think. Five years later and it would've had one.
I kinda see why. Hancock already feels like two movies stick together.
Loved the reaction jen. This is a great movie and the sequels are just as good if not better, probably an unpopular opinion. Keep up the great work jen, love the channel and content alot. 🙏😎
Total Recall was based on a book written by Philip K Dick
Did you see my reaction for Total Recall?
@@jenmurrayxo yes
15:18 proposing that the tabloids are true makes me think of the artsy film from 1986 called True Stories. It's based on tabloids. David Byrne from the Talking Heads (band) made the film. "You know it's true" ... "It's all true!" ... and many other lines come to mind.
I love the tests, J demonstrated how to work smarter not harder and showed how he would analyze a situation before acting, not being quick on the trigger.
When I first saw Captain America and the flagpole, it made me think of the egg-chair scene here.
2 is ok. 3 is good. Love your reactions.
"Should I see Casablanca?" Umm...YES! It is considered one of the best movies ever made. Btw, it's a love story, you'll LOVE it!
Banjo is an awesome name for a cat!
