    I gotta say, the guy who plays Edgar played his role AMAZINGLY well - throughout the whole movie, I 100% believed that he wasn't human and was a giant alien bug shoved in human skin. Most of that was just from good acting and practical effects, with minimal CGI. Bravo!!

    The thing with the little girl is, her holding the Quantum Physics books, is ACTUALLY a huge tell that something is wrong. It mirrors how K picked out Mikey in the truck full of Spanish-speaking foreigners. The alien was just mimicking what it thought would hide it without any knowledge or context; similarly, an alien disguising itself as a little girl carrying books that no child would have, in the middle of the night, all by herself in the ghetto is something that it WOULD conceivably do.

      My theory with the tests was always that he failed all of them as presented, but passed them in unexpected ways.
      Before the written test, he calls out Z's non-explanation of why they're there.
      During the written test, he is the only one who uses the environment to his advantage.
      During the shooting test he shows restraint and good accuracy.
      After the shooting test, he demonstrates an eye for details, as well as an ability to come up with a semi-plausible story on the fly (important for using the neuraliser).

    Its a miniature microwave radiation focuser. If you look whenever its fired, there is no flash or laser because radiation is invisible!

    By the way, the dog loved it. Performing dogs are trained not only to obey commands, but also to like certain actions in order to get them to provide material for the editor. (Although it works, it does produce a lot of tail-wagging that then has to be dealt with. Thus all the pre-CGI happiness displayed by "murderous wolves" who were having a really fun time.) The pug in this sequence loves to be grabbed and shaken around, and the shots were intercut with Jones looking very angry, so the shaking could go on for a while without giving away the fact that the dog isn't hurt or upset at all.

    • @ILikeCHEEZ9
      @ILikeCHEEZ9 Рік тому +17

      Just because this distrubed me I looked it up, most of the violent shaking was cgi and a stuffed dog, but there was a real pug he only shook a little bit and they gave him a treat after every shake so he's associating being shaken with happy treats. There's a moment in the scene where Tommy Lee breaks character because he plays with the dog off camera and they didn't fully cut it

    One of the things I love about J in hindsight is how much he subverts expectations of the typical Will Smith character. What does he say to K when he joins up? Recognise him for his skill, and don't patronize him. They play it off like a gag, but J, asides from his issues with authority (mostly from working with fat slobs with shitty attitudes like the ones we see) is basically a supercop - he's in peak physical condition, thinks outside the box and shows hints of a photographic or at least exceptionally good memory. Had he never stumbled upon the MIB, he might never have reached his full potential, but he was practically born to do the job.
