- Men in Black (1997) Movie Reaction, Review, and Commentary for JL. Many thoughts on how much fun Vincent D'Onofrio had making this movie and MANY moments wondering (not on purpose) how absolutely gross alien bug innards are were had.

Vincent D'onofrio is the real star of this movie and one the of the most underrated performances ever.
Yep, and Will Smith is the weakest part.
@@finger3181that's simple hindsight.
Everyone thought he was the swag in these movies
@@rammsteinrulz16 not everyone. I always thought he played the same character in everything, just in different clothes. His clothes in this being particular dreadful.
@@finger3181 it was the 90s man 🤣
I'm slightly biased, MiB was my intro to Will, even before I watched Fresh Prince.
@@finger3181 "thought he played the same character in everything" True, but I still like him in this. How far was this from him breaking outta TV sitcom stuff? Was this his first? I Robot or whatever wasn't bad either and that's like next decade from this. Dunno how much better as an actor he got be he was getting a lot of big part it seemed. I thought he was gonna be the next Tom Hanks back then.
Pugs are great little dogs. I bought my wife one 16 years ago and she's still here but not much longer. She's already deaf, she's blind in one eye, and her back legs are starting to show signs of arthritis. She still eats really good and even chases our border collie around when he makes her mad. It's sad though, when you know there isn't much time left.
Is there an Academy Award for best weird movement in a movie? Cuz Vincent over here be 🔥
Get ready to put on the last suit you’ll ever wear, J!
19:25 Twin Towers in the background. 1997. And there is a dance with the MIB song! There's a whole music video, and it was actually included on the VHS after the movie.
"I warned him! YOU warned him"! 🤣🤣🤣
Me 😂
Maybe the reason the driver of the illegal immigrants in the very beginning of the movie looked familiar was that he was the actor that played uncle Rico on Napoleon dynamite.
“I bet I can throw this football clear over those mountains.”
he also played the computer nerd from the pretender tv series.
Roger Linus from Lost too
The worms (the aliens getting coffee) were speaking Huttese (the language of Jaba the Hutt)
Just looked that up!! That is so cool!
“ Forget me Nots“ Patrice Rushen 1982
MIB song “ sampled“ The entire tune!!!
Yes. That is Pvt. Pile in Men In Black as the farmer.

Vincent D’Onofrio is a great actor.
That one dude still typing when the ball slammed his desk😁😁
"Aww pretty cow." Idk why but that was adorable.
Edgar's wife is the bus driver from Forrest Gump 👍
Dorothy Harris
Edgar is gomer Pyle from fmj
The guy in the pawn shop was Tony Shalhoub who played in the series Monk, which is really good. The cartoon MIB was good too.
Vincent D'Onofrio was at least as great as an alien host in this as he had been as demented boot-camper in Full Metal Jacket. And great in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Tony Shaloub as well! 👽
When I watched the new Monk movie, which I highly recommend it's fantastic, I was impressed with how well he just slipped right back into the role. Tony Shaloub is a gem.
@@Nexidal He is! I first saw him as a bus driver in "Quick Change" with Bill Murray, and then as Italian immigrant Antonio in 'Wings" comedy on TV in '90's, even tho' he's Lebanese.
Confirmed. Kingpin is an alien. That's why he is so strong
D'Onofrio.
@@Mazra42 I corrected the spelling of his last name accordingly, so thank you!
I love that you're rewatching this, when it came out in the theater Burger King used to put a Neurolizer in their kids' meals. My oldest son was having trouble sleeping in his own room so we got him one and told him that he could neurolize monsters and make them forget that they were monsters. It really helped and my son LOVED this movie..... So glad you enjoyed this movie and shared it with us. ~be well~
Will Smith is a legendary actor. His filmography absolutely slaps.
not the only thing that slaps.
@@snewshim not sure you got the joke
Keep my films out your mouth!!!
@@ToThePointCT I'm not sure *you* got the joke
@@anactualalpaca7016 I wasnt talking to you😁
yes, that is the guy from Dodgeball.
Rip Torn.
Funny fact, he went on a date with my grandma back in the 70s when he was in Texas filming a made for TV movie .
He was drinking moonshine, and went to use the bathroom. But the bathroom inside was all tiled, including the door. When he didn’t come out for a while, my grandma went to go check on him, and hears scratching. She asked if everything is OK and he says that he “can’t find the damn door”.
May he rest in peace
It's just so Zed 😭😅
You know this boutta be a banger 💯🔥 ima 90s kid this was my movie...lmao me and my cuz would do the dance to the music video at the end ...our grandma was hollerin 😂😂😂
If you’re Will Smith fan, you need to watch Enemy of the State. I actually believe it’s one of his best movies.
Very underrated!
Great movie. Even more relevant now.
Agreed
@@charleysage5827I love Will Smith, but I hated Hancock. That was one of his worst movies
Hancock was 20 minutes of a fun movie and 70 minutes of trash.
JL: "Did this have a dance with it?"
Hell yeah, it had a dance with it. I wish I could have enjoyed it then, instead of being an angsty teen. J gave me flashbacks to being in school. Me and my class had to learn the dance for the MIB song.
Let me see you just bounce with me, just bounce with me...
Now just slide with me, just slide with me...
Now let me see you take a walk with me, take a walk with me...
Now make your neck work...
Now freeze.... *CLAP CLAP*
@rammsteinrulz16 *fights back the forgotten past memories of childhood trauma... and fails*

J's about to make this look good!
Hi everyone. I remember seeing this movie in the theater.
Happy Anniversary!!!! Been watching your channel since it started. It’s been wonderful seeing y’all’s efforts come together and continue to grow!!!! I wish you well with your endeavors!! Suggestion you may enjoy is WHAT PLANET ARE YOU FROM (2000) or HITCHHIKERS GUIDE TO THE GALAXY (2005). Thank you for great entertainment!
@JL so glad you liked this the first one is really brilliant and the discussion that Tommy Lee tells him about people want security and to be kept in ignorance gets truer and truer every year
Frank the Pug is actually not voiced by Tommy Chong nor Cheech Marin, it’s Tim Blaney who acted as the voice for Frank. Apparently he was the puppeteer and voice for Number 5/"Johnny Five" in _Short Circuit 1-2_ and an additional puppeteer for certain productions of _The Muppets_ and the voice of Goofy Goober in the _SpongeBob SquarePants Movie_
@28:33 Tim Blaney, who voiced Johnny 5 in Short Circuit 1&2, provided the voice of Frank the Pug in the first two MIB movies.
The alien squid baby grows up to be a Jedi knight
Really? I thought he killed their uncle during that Independence Day movie. You might be right. I saw a comment saying the worms were speaking Huttese or something.
The farmers wife is Forest Gumps bus driver
And Elaine's roommate/Kramers girlfriend in Seinfeld
13:22 I noticed that the dog is looking like Scooby-Doo, like WTH????? LOL! 😳😳😳😂😂😂
Hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
Looking forward to your next rewatch. Good commentary as usual. Night night.
Dialog in this movie is priceless. I hope you do the other 2 if you haven't already. Great cast! I believe the big alien that brought the little guy out for perogy (holding Orians Belt) is actually from Fleetwood Mac
Ahhhh man, these were good days. Back when people still thought Will Smith was cool.
So, listen up, and I'll tell you how,...
I still think Will Smith is cool, now.
I understand your feelings. He hooked up with a crazy person. It’s hard to get away.
Will is still cool. I bet most people can't achieve anything close to that man.
@@695jonnyTrue. And a lot fewer people will peak the way he did, too. It's never about what you do in life that's remembered. It's how you peak and how you die that gets recognized.
I saw this in the base theater, being stationed in Okinawa when it came out.
I saw it on base either in Spangdahlem AB Germany or Beale AFB California, depending on what time of year the movie was released.
It was 97'. I remember watching Independence Day when it came out, at the 29 Palms base theater as well. THAT, was a fun movie to watch on base. All of us in the theater had an excellent time@jameskirschling7887
@@rocknroller77 what part of the year? I left Germany in Jun of 97. That's why I'm not sure which base I was at.
@21:08 I still get a chuckle out of that dig at the F.B.I. 😁
Fury Road, and now Men in Black! Fantastic! Another great flick to include into the rotation. Youre gonna love this 90's comedy/sci-fi classic!
It’s a re-watch. He’s seen it before.
Vincent D’Onofrio is fantastic in this.
Yeah Edgar is a legendary character
Vincent D'Onofrio gives a master performance in physical comedy as 'Edgar the Bug.' My favorite spot is him trying to 'Act casual' when he's casing the jewelry store; his arms just won't cooperate. 17:50
I'm always amused by your 'co-pilots' when they're digging around under the blankets on the bed.
I think Pursuit of Happyness is Wil Smith's best performance and movie! Enemy of the State was awesome too!
I got to drive means he wants to lead, to be on top.
Nobody notices, because it is flawlessly done, but every major sequence in the movie starts with a chase and ends with a splat, even Little Tiffany counts as a splat, and the entire movie is a chase that ends with a splat.
Yes, J looking at the tabloids is the final chase and the Dennis Rodman reveal is the final splat.
I believe the music video is at the very end of the credits.
Homeboy said deatomizer. I don't think anybody is looking to have their atoms go bye bye.
I love how Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones interact. Please watch 2 and 3.
Lady doctor is Linda Fiorentino who had her breakout role as a total badass in The Last Seduction.❤
Movie with a whole world of it's own flavor like Men in Black is called RIPD. Stars Jeff Bridges (Big Leibowski) and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool). RIPD stands for Rest In Peace Department. Fun action comedy.
❤❤❤
Favorite movie ❤
Have you seen the movie BORAT
if you haven’t already try it and keep in mind most of the people were not actors and they actually lost court cases trying to stop the movie from using their image
Men in Black has a slightly complicated publication history. from wikipedia:
The Men in Black is an American comic book created and written by Lowell Cunningham, illustrated by Sandy Carruthers, and originally published by Aircel Comics. Aircel would later be bought out by Malibu Comics, which itself was bought out by Marvel Comics. Three issues were published in 1990, with another three the following year. The comic book later spawned a media franchise which includes a series of four films, an animated television series, video games, and a theme park attraction, as well as a number of tie-in one-shot comics from Marvel. Cunningham had the idea for the comic once a friend of his introduced him to the concept of government "men in black" upon seeing a black van riding the streets.
‘Hey my man got on a windbreaker with a football jersey. That’s a wild combination!’
Awwww baby doggo!
Kay: Not bad for your second day of work, huh?
Jay: It definitely rates about a 9.0 on my weird-shit-o'meter.
Me: Same, honestly. 😆🤣
Another Tommy Lee Jones movie I like is Coal Minor's daughter
This is one of those movies you can watch anytime & enjoy it no matter how many times you’ve seen it.
Gonna have to watch The Cell now.
Hey #EOMFamily, sorry I could not chat in person, busy at work but enjoyed the premiere and rewatch. Can't wait for the next one!
My grandma used to buy up all of those fake ass magazines, mainly Weekly World News, and save them for me to read while she was babysitting us kids. I miss my Gramma.
Lol "he look like, he stink" lol😂
Fun fact...that's Uncle Rico driving the truck in the beginning!!!
Such a cool reaction, superb! Just one question:
What the hell is going on under those blankets?!
Hey Murderwhistle! Loving your channel---have you ever seen a Will Smith movie called ' irobot' or a Rick Moranis movie from the 80s called 'Honey I Shrunk the Kids'? History kind of forgot both of them but irobot is a great sci-fi action/mystery thing, and the other one was mostly forgotten by history but I remember it being real popular and saw it a bunch growing up. Lots of practical effects, too with giant sets. Have a great one and lots of love to the puppies :D
I got to watch this in a drive through movie theater when it came out . Me and my sister got to put blankets and Pillows on top of my mom's station wagon
Fun fact: Vincent D'Onofrio walking like that is because he was wearing a disabled kid's leg braces. He was practicing his walk and a disabled kid was like "try my leg braces on" so he did and the disabled kid thought it was hilarious and encouraged D'Onofrio.
I'm just a homunculus piloting bone mech covered in meat armour.
That is a strange thing to say, yet somehow so appropriate.
Great to watch you having fun with this one, J! And I agree with you: this is more Tommy Lee Jones' show than it is Will Smith's. At this early point in his career, Will Smith was just playing Will Smith in each film until he started to stretch his acting muscles. Tommy Lee Jones, however, made his very stoic, curmudgeonly character shine with the various nuances and subtle smart-ass comments.
BTW, this is NOT really based on a Marvel comic book. "The Men in Black" was an independent comic that was first published by Aircel Comics, a Canadian publisher. Aircel was then bought by Malibu Comics. Malibu published a second mini-series of "The Men in Black." Then Malibu itself was bought by Marvel Comics. Depending on who you ask it was either because Marvel wanted Malibu's coloring system (their books' coloring did look better than Marvel's), or because DC Comics was interested in acquiring Malibu, which would have made DC's presence in the comic book market larger than Marvel's. Regardless, Marvel itself did not publish any "Men in Black" books until the first film was released in 1997.
Serious nostalgia with this one. I was in 2nd grade
Another great reaction. This is honestly my favorite channel and my go-to every time i need a laugh.
Can't wait for Batman Begins. He's my favorite superhero ❤
Best Tommy Lee Jones movie is Space Cowboys....with Clint Eastwood, among others 🔥
Imagine we are just one of many marbles in an aliens bag 👽
I'd love for a second set of eyelids like that
Awesome movie👍👍👍.
Remember the guy in the morgue who was stuck to the sealing is Also in the second movie as the video rental place guy .
We need video of you doing the MIB dance!!!
3:23 - Am I crazy or is that the dude from Supernatural? Azazel, the yellow-eyed demon. That's him isn't it?
@25:53 I’m with Jay and Agent K on this one.
MIB 3 is my favorite one!
I'd love to see a 'Its a Wonderful Life' style side movie that shows what the impact would've been on their friends /families lives after joining MIB lol
JAY! The guy with a cigarette behind his ear is the LEGEND Lazlo Ollyfeld from Real Genius. He was in Napoleon Dynamite, too, but he wasn't as cool. Please watch Real Genius, heheh
Frank the pug is my favorite character. I frequently say “ you can kiss my furry little butt!” In the correct circumstances. 😆
better go shave that thing xD
Men in Black is such an iconic movie
If you want to see Vincent D'Onofrio at his most twrrifying, "The Cell" starring him and Jennifer Lopez needs to be added to the list.
3:27 Cause it's uncle Rico when he's not throwing footballs over mountains
Man this movie was great. Tommy Lee Jones was awesome as always..the guy that played zed in this movie was the bad guy in The Beastmaster. But love this movie. Keep them coming j
The dude from the beginning with the cigarette behind his ear is Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite!
19:00 How in the hell nobody else in that crowd ass restaurant saw that massive stinger ?
Here come the Men in Black (Men in Black)
Galaxy defenders...
That's lurch from the Adams family movies
Way back in the day I saw a VHS cassette called "Men In Black Chicks".
In the morgue scene when J asked K if he ever flashy thinged him... how many of you totally forgot K flashy thinged him after the jewelry shop which led to the diner?
All these years later, Linda Fiorentino is still such a baddy.
Awesome reaction of my favorite Marvel movie!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I didn’t remember David Cross was in this movie, wow
Private Pile!!! lol
Man, i dont like how mib 3 retconned the way j and k met
That guy with the cigarette on his ear is Jon Gries... better known as Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite.
Omg I know every line of this movie. Great choice
This is a marvel property and has kingpin in it that makes this officially part of the mcu
A lot of “Brueughh” from JL with this one.
The third film is my favorite one
Zed is his name. It’s the letter Z in British English. Since this is an American movie I don’t know why his name isn’t Z.
