    HUGE HELP!!! I NEVER KNEW THOSE CUPS IN FRAME COULD BE REMOVED!! All my friends and I were taught to work on our own bikes and keep them in good shape so I don't think I've ever had to replace any, but I'd love to throw new style 3-piece crank on my old GT speed series frame and NOW I CAN YAY!!!

    Can't thank you enough Bikeman! Bought a fat tire cruiser bike used that was jerking like it was skipping gears even thought it's single speed. Didn't know how to get inside it until this video. Bearings were rusted with a few balls missing in one of them and no grease. Clearly the problem and cheap fix! THANK YOU SIR!

    sorry, Knox gelletin. BTW, Boeing in Seattle gave away about 200 Workmans to friends of mine, a non-profit bike shop in Tacoma, called 2nd Cycle. They held a workman race they organized in a vacant lot and made ramps and stuff. Man, you really belong in the Bike-Centric Pacific North West, you would be in heaven. There is also a group out there of traveling gypsy cyclists that make a carnival out of bicycles and parts, making rides out of them. Not to mention the annual dead baby downhill bike race in Seattle, which is like a woodstock centered around and after a bike race. bands, free beer, well, you get the idea. My girl does a booze cruise in Tacoma called the Tacoma Mob Riders monthly. If you ever want to travel up Seattle/Tacoma way, give me a shout. I will head you in the right direction. oh, friend me on facebook if you believe in that sort of thing... James Hambly, Costa Mesa, CA.

    Wow! I was impressed... and also dismayed at how many parts, how many tools, and how much work and expertise went into that replacement operation.... I think it would not be very easy or convenient for me to do at home. I bought a cheap indoor stationary exercise bike, and very recently it has begun making some knocking sounds and has been "jumping" a bit. This began when I was pedaling at high resistance.

    might be a good idea to show the newbies the right way to fix loose fitting cups,it's a difficult thing to fix,need to score inside the bb tube with a hammer & punch,i fixed a bmx by jamming a sliver of paper between the edge of the cup & bb tube,not ideal (very dodgy lol) but it was a temporary fix until i could get the punch to do it properly :)

    • @nigahiga6400
      @nigahiga6400 9 років тому +1

      Joseph Holcomb On a one-piece crank you need to remove the crank from the frame. Then, you must remove the drive side BB cone, which usually requires a special bicycle-specific wrench like the Park BBT4(check to be sure, you can simply bring the bike into your local bike shop and ask them for the right tool). Some bicycles like my '75 Schwinn Continental have drive side cones that can be removed using a large adjustable wrench. Once you get that drive side cone off the chainring will come off without any effort, although there may be corrosion bonding between the drive pin on the crank and the hole on the ring but it should come off with a good tap.
      If you have a multi-ring setup like ones found on old school Schwinn 10-speeds, the chainrings come off as an assembly with the chainguard. The chainrings on my Conti are set up with the outer ring and chainguard attached to the inner ring with five 8mm hex bolts. To separate them simply remove the bolts using a standard wrench. When reattaching remember to tighten in a cross pattern.
      The hard part is finding replacement chainrings for one piece cranks if you have a double or triple. If this is your case let me know and I can give you some options.
