Playing For Change is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. Our primary focus is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos we call Songs Around the World. Creating these videos motivated us to form the Playing For Change Band-a tangible, traveling representation of our mission, featuring musicians met along our journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation-a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. Through these efforts, we aim to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet. Learn more: playingforchange.com

Can we agree this is one of the coolest versions of any song anywhere?
well also is Stand by Me which was the song that gave Mark Johnson the motivation and desire to take a song around the world, record each artist then go home to studio and edit the recordings like he did. and Stand by me , was in my opinion the very best of the best, its what started the whole thing , its hard to stop when you start listening to all the songs they have done.

That legit brought tears to my eyes.
There is nothing sad about a life well lived.
@@steveskrobot5992 I agree. Of course, death is sad. Much more sad and terribly sad in many (most) cases. But, in my case, maybe not. I am 71 and death (right around the corner) might just be the end to a decent journey. My fortune. I stayed with my dad in his house, with my mom (his wife for over 50 years) for the last five weeks of his life here on this earth before he died at 83 of cancer. He certainly died slowly and painfully but he had had a life filled with many joys. He and I hope others (like us and Robbie) are blessed. SOOO many more are not. What is it all about? Who gets to have a good life and live long? Who truly knows?

Love to listen, and love to WATCH! the videos are so incredible - so many different artists from so many countries coming together. Peace.
This version inspired my band to learn the song and play it at a benefit for Wounded Veterans.
God bless you
The musicians are incredible but whoever mixed and edited this deserves 1000 Grammy awards. The changes in instrumentation and vocalists feels completely natural and seamless. The sound is always balanced and full while also giving each musician a great share of the limelight. The buildup is so subtle that you barely notice how much bigger it has gotten by the end. Absolutely amazing.

Ringo played drums on "I Shall be Released" in the Last Waltz. Like so many other musicians, he admired The Band (and so did George). Here, these two men who shaped so much of the music we enjoy today, jam with so many musicians whom they influenced across the globe. They got to see the fruits of their labor. Thank you to Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm, Richard Manuel and Rick Danko. Thank God we still have Garth Hudson and Ringo. Any day now, any day now, I shall be released. Farewell, Robbie. Ringo just nails it, and he'll be 80 in July!
Ikr. What fountain of youth is he drinking from?
I read in a Beatles book once that his style is to play just a little behind the beat, and I hear that here - like with the fill at 38 seconds. On the one hand it's very laid-back, but it still has somehow has this cool momentum, like you're just kind of falling into the next bar. His playing seems so simple, but I wouldn't change a thing about it - it fits this song so well (plus a hundred+ Beatles tunes, of course). Any drummers have insight on this? Do you hear it this way too?

Canada and the world lost another treasured musician when Robbie Robertson passed away ....Miss you Robbie , Rock In Peace
Fan-bloody-tastic. How you will be missed Robbie. 🙏🏻🎶🌟💖
I’m 18, never heard this song once in my life. But I felt it, and saw it. The soul and passion put into this is immaculate. This is what the pinnacle of idealism looks like. This is what peace truly is: working together and not being afraid of each other. It’s art, no, it’s more than art actually. Amazing job to everyone who was involved with this, I was completely moved.
In Canada the radio must play a certain time.for Canadians. I have heard this song a lot.
You are young enough to listen to masterpieces i.like this for years to come😁🤩🤭🤫
Never heard it before?! This song by The Band is one of my all time favorite songs. You should listen to the live version from the concert movie The Last Waltz. I will also say that your parents failed you by not introducing you to more classic rock (sarcasm, but only slightly kidding).
Oh honey, I am old lady now. This song has been my heart since a kid. Marcus King is my pride joy and hope.
To be that amazing and empathetic at his age comes with many challenges. He has all of the love and light I can send to him. He has taken on a lot weight on his shoulders. I don’t know that I have ever met such a good soul. Tears auto flow every time I hear him.
@@melaniekaczmarek2101 What about the movie ' Easy Rider ' were the song came from originally with one of Jack Nicholson's first films and Peter Fonda starring in it.🎸🏴😁😃
