One bit on the NTW- 50, the NTW-20 is almost 2 meters long and weighs about 35 kilos. It is designed to be transported in three parts by its fireteam. I don’t see someone wielding it like an AR-15 being realistic. Also, 20mm has a pretty massive recoil, which requires the NTW-20 to be fired from the bipod, so firing it off-hand seems a little ridiculous.
Yea there's a lot of interesting stuff in Destiny 2 that I'd love to see his take on. Stuff like how almost all the hand cannons fire from the bottom cylinder, more conventional guns like Dead Man's Tale to stuff that's more wacky like the liquid ammo of Omolon, etc
The sight he talks about at 13:00 is based on the Vortex UH-1. It doesn't have the "smart reticle" irl but it's starting to become more popular both with civilians and military. I didn't like it when it first came out but it's really grown on me.
Networked sights, the only thing I could think of is some form of IFF system, synced with GPS and orientational data to change the reticle in some way.
Quick note in regards to his comment on scar recoil: The answer is no, a shorter barrel would cause more recoil. One reason for this is because more gas would be required to properly cycle the system, naturally this extra gas kicks harder.
@@dark2023-1lovesoni But we're not talking shotguns? Also, I'm somewhat skeptical of your claim, a short shotties recoil vs a long one is barely noticeable (in regards to manual loading shotties), if anything the recoil would be better on the long one simple due to mass, so I'm forced to think there was a key difference between the short and long shotguns you tested.
@@wolfgang_h3t It was my 870 before and after filling my form 1. I also assumed that the shorter barrel would have more intense recoil for the same exact reason you stated, weight. I was surprised to find that recoil was actually less intense and more manageable with a shorter barrel. I figure that the pressure generated by burning powder is lower due to the short length. But shotgun powder is particularly slow burning compared to rifle types. I also found that the difference in length had no noticeable effect on my shot spread, contrary to common belief. It still patterns the exact same.
Marlin advertised their guns with pictures of the animals you can take down with them. The Marlin 1895 had next to pictures of a bear, an elk, a boar and a moos a picture of a T-rex. I think that was also the reason that Chris Pratt wielded one in Jurassic Park World. But we all know that Battlefield has a fetish for Dinosaur easter eggs, which I assume is the reason for that gun. If you google Marlin 1895 trex you can still find the advertisement.
Ha, I didn't know they'd done that. Having checked the Wayback Machine though, the T. rex icon didn't appear until 2017, two years after Jurassic World came out.
@@JonathanFergusonRoyalArmouries Oh, I might have gotten the cause and effect mixed up in my memory. But adding a T-rex in your gun advertisement because of a Jurassic Park movie starring said gun seems plausible.
For those interested, the M5A1 is based on the SIG MCX Spear, which itself is based on their MCX Virtus rifles but chambered in 6.8x51mm SIG as part of the US NGSW program. It exists, it went to trials with several other designs and has not been declared winner *yet*, but given SIGs recent P320/M18/M19 win to replace US military sidearms, I think they have the best shot (no pun intended). Great video as always Jonathan and I an eternally jealous of your amazing job at Royal Armouries....to get a few hours, a couple hundred rounds and *any* of the weapons of my choices at a range for science and research...At least, that's what I imagine anyway.
I'd love to see Jonathan look at Halo Infinite's weapons (I don't recall him ever doing any Halo before) as it would mean he's covered all three of this years big Autumn FPS
For the pistol carbines, it makes sense in applications where you only wanna stock one ammo type and as few different spare parts as possible to keep cost down
Correction: The Flux MP17 Raider (MP28 in the game) is not meant at all as a conversion, that is definitely not the intent (I should know, I designed it). It is simply a micro-PDW that uses the SIG M17 operating system. It is the most firepower in the smallest controllable package, able to be concealed upon one's person. Please do not compare it to the Shitaroni, as there is no comparison.
A return to Hunt Showdown to showcase some of the new guns and akimbo reloads would be really cool, plus all the new ammo types they added could be fun to see Johnathan discuss
15:28 *That's a Marlin model 1895 Dark, and yes - it's a real gun - current production.* The only changes made for the game model is the forend. You can buy similar m-lok forends, for that exact Marlin model, from both Midwest Industries and Ranger Point Precision. The handguard / forend seen there, in game, is modeled off of the one available from midwest industries. So yes, not only is that gun, real, but so is that handguard. BTW - the real life version has a threaded muzzle - for muzzle breaks and flash hiders and sound suppressors, etc. Something which the in game version appears to lack.
Great analysis. Its good to see that soemone knows what theyre actually talking about and that 'most' the guns in 2042 are "real" or adaptations of real ones. Good work!

There were some photos from the May Day parade in North Korea a few years ago showing some really well equipped soldiers, and they were carrying what looked like an AK rifle with helical magazines not unlike the Bizon.
I’m pretty sure Johnathan would be horrified by my Mosin Nagant rifle with the computerised scope or my late buddy’s Deagle that he deliberately tried to make as huge as possible. 😋
so genuine question, what would be the use of a bolt-action rifle in the 2040's? especially since current gen precision rifles don't need to be bolt action.
Same reason why bolt actions still live on today. For maximum precision you want as little movement in the rifle as possible. With a bolt action all movement once fired comes from the user with the weapon only lightly moving because of recoil. With a Semi-automatic rifle you have the bolt or even barrel moving the moment the round is fired, putting more movement into the weapon and possibly throwing the bullet just slightly out of trajectory. Keep in mind bolt action rifles are more meant for the longer distance marksmanship up to 1000M and above where as semi-auto snipers work perfectly at lesser ranges than that.
I like how Gamespot was one of the first outlets that released a "review" on the 11th November and they were overtly positive and mentioned none of the issues. Here we are with a video that has all rights to not go into detail about the mess that BF2039 is. However, with other games they do show goofy stuff or broken stuff and let Jonathan comment on it. Here they just don't as if something or someone hindered them from doing so... Edit: Inb4: I mean, they don't have to show bugs. But what about the ridiculous categorization of calibers into "heavy ammunition", "light ammunition" and so on which is a huge backwards step from previous iterations of the series in which the actual caliber was stated. And what about the 4 attachments having the same stats or the same attachment having contradictory stats on different weapons?
Apparently the descriptions on many attachments are incorrect and will be fixed at some point. Don't know what you mean by the caliber stuff in previous bf games, previous bf games didn't have different ammo options for weapons.

You can see the Sten gun in the background just as you could see the Scar in the background of the Vanguard review. That means he probably filmed these videos on the same day.
13:49 Optics tech is likely based on what is available with the Meprolight Foresight.
Ah, good call.
@@JonathanFergusonRoyalArmouries hi Jonathan, it's good to know there are fellow gun nerds in the world. shame I ackt own them in Singapore but thank you for introducing new firearms to me. cheers man
Would like Jonathan to react to Halo Infinite's guns
This is Jonathan Ferguson, the only reason any of us are watching this video
One bit on the NTW- 50, the NTW-20 is almost 2 meters long and weighs about 35 kilos. It is designed to be transported in three parts by its fireteam. I don’t see someone wielding it like an AR-15 being realistic. Also, 20mm has a pretty massive recoil, which requires the NTW-20 to be fired from the bipod, so firing it off-hand seems a little ridiculous.
I know the F2000 would be old by then but it’s so futuristic!
Hopefully they add that gun. Fitting for the 2042 setting.
Always a treat to see Jonathan discuss the guns from games!
The glowstick is in case you meet other 90s ravers. We don't shoot each other, we hug it out.
Happy days!
@@JonathanFergusonRoyalArmouries I wish I could remember, mate. From 92 onwards, it gets hazy. Big up all Junglist!🙂👍
@@robertwright7937 More of a hard rock/metalhead myself :)
@@JonathanFergusonRoyalArmouries Each to their own, dude. A lot of my mates are metalheads too! Always on about Trivium!😄
Yeah, you ever try playing a FPS while on Ecstasy? Just makes you sad.
I believe the MP28/P320 carbine is the Flux Raider platform.
Can he react to some of Destiny 2's weapons? Would be interesting to see his take on them, especially since many of them are quite unique.
YES
Yea there's a lot of interesting stuff in Destiny 2 that I'd love to see his take on. Stuff like how almost all the hand cannons fire from the bottom cylinder, more conventional guns like Dead Man's Tale to stuff that's more wacky like the liquid ammo of Omolon, etc
It’s good to see Jonathan with a smile on his face after seeing the abysmal guns of Vanguard.
Yay a new vid keep up the great work you guy!
I drove 3 hours to visit leeds armoury and our boy jon wasn't there, was a real sad affair. Great place though.
1:44 Oh Johnathon, nothing handles well in Battlefield 2042
The sight he talks about at 13:00 is based on the Vortex UH-1. It doesn't have the "smart reticle" irl but it's starting to become more popular both with civilians and military. I didn't like it when it first came out but it's really grown on me.
You should have Johnathan either review the weapons from apex legends or titanfall 2( they're based in the same universe) or the weapons from warframe
I definitely agree
Definitely agree with titanfall 2 but I cannot imagine trying to describe a weapon like exergis in warframe
@@Vindicee We can't let Johnathan off that easy now imagine him trying to explain how the hek works or the atomos
Networked sights, the only thing I could think of is some form of IFF system, synced with GPS and orientational data to change the reticle in some way.
Quick note in regards to his comment on scar recoil:
The answer is no, a shorter barrel would cause more recoil. One reason for this is because more gas would be required to properly cycle the system, naturally this extra gas kicks harder.
In my experience with short barreled shotguns, a 12-14" barrel has less recoil than an 18-20" barrel.
@8:40 I think it got lost in the explaining but it is worth remembering that the DSR-1 and DSR-50 are really set up like that.
@@schnufi11 That's definitely why - I love that they did that :)
Jonathan has this magical ability of being incredibly knowledgeable yet not coming across as condescending.
I'd be down to look at more BF1 weapons
This video almost makes me want to play 2042... then I remember it's 2042
Its funny how the success of this series has spawned a few imitators
I like Ian McCollum (been a FW sub for 3 years) but IGN's attempt to copy this series with Ian are laughable.
@@egomania2792 Yeah poor Ian lol didnt know what he was getting himself into I suppose with a circus like IGN
Very obvious but hey I love Ian so... :D
For the pistol carbines, it makes sense in applications where you only wanna stock one ammo type and as few different spare parts as possible to keep cost down
I'd like him to take a look at the guns of Deep Rock Galactic-some pretty absurd designs in that game.
Especially with the new update, I think he would really appreciate the Hurricane Missile System
11:10
AC 42 is mixture of Singapurian SAR 21 and barrel from TAR 21 MW2019 version and burst mode from FAMAS rifle
HOLY HIT DECETION BATMAN. That mp9 clip was crazy, a full mag dump with reticle visibly on the target and nothing but no regs.
1:52 its actually a keltec cp33 with a pistol brace (33 rounds of 22lr in a quad stack magazine)
I love this series keep it up you guys
You know Jonathan is a star when the vid has half a million views and zero dislikes
"they can't rely on the good ol' AK forever" you take that back
Well it's true
Kalashnikov Concern has been diversifying, yeah...they offer nowadays not just AK ARs but also some semi Vityaz 9mm as well.
It's nice to see Jonathan had recovered form cursed guns of CoD Vangurard.
Any chance of reacting to Halo Infinite's weaponry?
Correction: The Flux MP17 Raider (MP28 in the game) is not meant at all as a conversion, that is definitely not the intent (I should know, I designed it). It is simply a micro-PDW that uses the SIG M17 operating system. It is the most firepower in the smallest controllable package, able to be concealed upon one's person. Please do not compare it to the Shitaroni, as there is no comparison.
You should do the bioshock series next : ) love your videos
@GameSpot thats the flux raider @9:12 it uses a sig sauer P320 FCU(fire control unit)
A return to Hunt Showdown to showcase some of the new guns and akimbo reloads would be really cool, plus all the new ammo types they added could be fun to see Johnathan discuss
Would definitely love to see a part 2 with more weapons and special ammo!
Jonathan is probably the most likeable person I've ever seen throughout my entire life so far
Second try of asking where Jonathan's Spitfire shirt is from so i can get one
I have the same spitfire shirt as jonathan! Got it from a British company called 909 Apparel.
@@tigertomdesign ooo awesome! thanks gonna pick one up
15:28 *That's a Marlin model 1895 Dark, and yes - it's a real gun - current production.* The only changes made for the game model is the forend.
The GVT is actually one of the best gun in the game
Great analysis. Its good to see that soemone knows what theyre actually talking about and that 'most' the guns in 2042 are "real" or adaptations of real ones. Good work!
He should do the Halo series next
Good luck with that, been asking it for over a dozen vids now :P
@@NolDragon maybe one day I'll get my wish
I'm assumimg the in game NTW-50 is heavily inspired by/based on the Denel NTW-20, both South African, both have the carry rail, both anti material snipers, look near enough identical etc etc, quite cool that the devs are either as upto date as FW Ian - or even cooler - use his videos as research & inspiration.
Bf2042
Is a good game at its core
Missing features can be added back
Patches will be coming soon
If you want to wait a few months to get the game feel free
Stop hating on everyone who’s enjoying the game
Was this aimed at Jonathan?
Good to see Jonathan is alive after last time.
Being British, they revived him with intravenous tea and bickies, and a swift binge of Blackadder to remind him how to smile again.
6th polite atempt asking for a "review" of the weapons from the Apex Legens/Titanfall universe
Stop asking
There were some photos from the May Day parade in North Korea a few years ago showing some really well equipped soldiers, and they were carrying what looked like an AK rifle with helical magazines not unlike the Bizon.
You got to show him Payday 2, he'll appreciate the variety of weapons. Maybe not the variety of customization tho...
I’m pretty sure Johnathan would be horrified by my Mosin Nagant rifle with the computerised scope or my late buddy’s Deagle that he deliberately tried to make as huge as possible. 😋
The MP28 in the game is the Flux Raider irl. Solid piece. I recommend checking them out!
so genuine question, what would be the use of a bolt-action rifle in the 2040's?
especially since current gen precision rifles don't need to be bolt action.
Im going to leave a comment in case a Mosin fanboy comes by.
AW series?
Love these videos with this radical Gun Expert ! Wicked
Firearm expert reacts to the only 4 guns in battlefield.
The sig MCX was selected for the NGSW weapons program under the designation XM-5. So good on DICE for that.
Keltec getting a military contract would be hilarious
Video 3 of asking for Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends. I love the content keep it up!
13:47 isnt it a vortex UH-1 type optic with a buis on top? Its wierd but a really good idea
