@@jonathanferguson1211 Sadly, it doesn't work for me.
@@F1ghteR41 Sorry about that - Noble Empire have commented that they're happy to help individuals.
This is incredible!
I'd love to see a video on the AKMSU in the armory. Its history, its mythos and what the actual gun is
3:08 You're telling me this mechanical monstrosity works with the extra weight of a bayonet?!?
Something we need to try but in theory yes. I think worse-case it might affect reliability. How the shooter holds the rifle would likely have more effect. But I'm not an engineer :)
@@jonathanferguson1211 Most systems with recipricating barrels don't like changes in barrel weight, this one does that and more, but perhaps all that reciprocating mass means the bayonet isn't enough to sway it?
@@the_senate8050 I definitely want to try it but I think without firing elevated and/or running and gunning, it would probably work well enough. High speed filming might reveal deceleration of the moving parts though. I *think* it would affect rate of fire in auto, and in theory if the firing unit is slowed down, you might possibly get a three-round burst instead of two? Interestingly Garand Thumb seemed to be getting 'triples' even without a weight on the muzzle.
marvel of engineering
that you for documenting this in such high quality! i never get tired of seeing it function
This was always op on the old school battlefield games. Great 3 round bust, accurate and moderately powerful
Bad Company 2 memories...
The thing I liked the most was the fact you could see the barrel moving.
I actually wish I'd mentioned that/game appearances in general. I'm too used to compartmentalising that stuff for Gamespot!
The best gun in the best Battlefield game. Slap the ACOG on the AN94 and get to work. Miss BC2 so much
@@jonathanferguson1211didn't notice much difference between it and the ak12/m16 at normal ranges tbh
I find it hard to believe that a human sat there one day and 💡”I have an idea for a gun mechanism” and then put this on paper!
It’s hard to see / understand how and why it works with it dismantled in front of you with an animation to explain it, mind blown by the mental agility! 🤯
the fact this came out on stalker 2's release date is pretty cool.
I absolutely love this thing such an interesting bit of engineering. Really didn't expect to see one live firing this soon, thank you!
Wow. If I were an armorer assigned to a unit that were issued these I'd demand a larger vodka ration.
And maybe some valium.
Not only not an AK, but more the AK's antithesis.
The "Ant-AK", perhaps?
Jonathan pulling the “fourth mode” gave definite old school special ops vibes. The grey haired guys in the shirt sleeves and sunglasses who are actually the most dangerous people in the room by an order of magnitude. While you’re busy gushing over your hyper burst he just casually bayonets you.
You can't convince me the SAS doesn't roll up to Johnathan for the newest and boldest like he's Q.
... SOMEONE MAKE IT HAPPEN FOR THE NEXT BOND FILM
@@XaleManix Just a shame someone beat Jonathan to it for the John Wick series
More likely that they rolled up and said here… we’re done with these!
@@XaleManixOmg that would be amazing if Jonathan were Q in a Bond movie
Holy shit that slow mo is *delectable.* What an incredible machine.
Cool that this releases the same day STALKER 2 releases - pretty sure most people know the AN-94 as the "Obokan" from STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl
The dual hyperburst is one of the most incredible assault rifle technologies ever developed in semi recent times.
holy cow did not see this coming! just in time for stalker 2 as well
Ever since Bad Company 2, my introduction to Battlefield games, the AN-94 has fascinated me. Its my go to in any game that features it.
There is an Alternate reality where the G11 "Kraut Space magic gun" and the AN-94 "Russian farm equipment, but it'll do, gun" faced each other and that match up really does speak about west vs east european, i don't know what it says, but it said it
Yeah, I'd take the AN over a G11 any day of the week.
Wow....fantastic! I don't think any other firearm so effectively illustrates the out-of-the-box thinking that Russians don't get enough credit for! I need to get my paws on one of those!
Ah yes, that funny time when every world power said: "I want cool a hyper-burst gun". Then shortly after said: "wow that's expensive, we'll just stick to what we had before"
What ideas did other come up with? The AN94 is the only rifle I know if with that feature
@headshothunt3r414 G11 (Germany), XM8 (USA), Famas (France, but a simplified verson was adopted). I think Britain also tried it but I forget the name
Edit: AN-94 was actually developed a lot later than the rest of them too, not sure why it got funded after everyone else cancelled
@@headshothunt3r414 US tried going in a different direction as well for Hyperburst. Instead of the gun, they tried with the ammo. the M198 Duplex ammo from Project SALVO.
Every world power and Russia, you mean.
@@rhystaylor851The XM8 never had a hyperburst feature that I'm aware of, and if there was ever any experimenting with that regarding the FAMAS, it's difficult for me to picture, it would have been a radically different rifle.
This is immaculate. The AN is one of my favorite firearms ever, the holy grail. Larry Vickers owns(owned?) one in the US, and now you folks have three. I'm feeling a trip to the UK might in order soon.
Ian about to call Jonathan "Yoooo, long time no talk, you free anytime soon?"
lol - unfortunately the terms of our licence (insert meme here) don't allow non-employees to shoot Prohibited Weapons. Ideally we'd have the same authority as movie armourers do to allow that but for now, we don't :(
And I absolutely love the comprehensive animation of how the Mechanics Work. That would make it very easy to figure out and understand the role each part plays in the function/operation. Brilliant 😄
Casual pan-down to 3 at once
My only regret is that I can do a thumbs up only once. That's an amazingly rare addition and three of them.
They should redesign this to be a bullpup, to truly win at any quirky gun top trumps
I really would have appreciated you showing the targets so we could see the relative accuracy specifically with the hyper burst mode. Obviously we all know that it’s not putting two rounds through the same hole, but I would like to see how controllable that grouping actually is.
Stay tuned for Part 2...
These things are like some alternate timeline where Switzerland comes under the Soviet sphere of influence and proceeds to design their own gun to shoot 5.45 and does so in the most complex, over engineered and expensive way humanly possible.
Rolexnikov 😅
In this episode, Jonathan goes full Rock-N-Roll! 😎💥💥💥
Theres a guy at the FIVE GUYS I walk past to get to work that looks like Jonathan!
I go in and call him JONATHAN BURGERSON most days.
I can get in a good 25 Jonathan Burgersons before the security drag me out of the Five Guys.
If I say them loud enough, HE CRIES! so jokes.
Also, its not on the way to my work at all.
I don't know if this is a joke or real life, but it made me laugh either way :D

Easily my favorite rifle, likely my favorite firearm, and quite possibly my favorite _thing_ ever made.
It's just me or is it a coincidence that this video was released the same day as Stalker 2?
Sadly we won't get a Firearms Expert Reacts video on the game.
@@RevanAlairethankfully GameSpot isn't the owner of "experts react" so we can have him in some other channel, maybe Dave's personal channel
@@nobsherc Fingers crossed.
What is Dave's channel by the way?
Would you believe that it actually IS a coincidence? I'd lost track of STALKER 2's release date with the whole Gamespot collapse and forgot to ask my colleagues to coordinate with whenever the heck it was due out. So the gun gods have smiled upon us :)
@@RevanAlaireWhy not?

On my birthday? Johnathan Ferguson keeper of firearms an artillery at the Royal Armouries museum in the UK, you shouldnt have
Cool to mention world of guns, especially as a research tool. I sometimes model guns in 3D as a practice, then apply whatever textures I want on them, and world of guns is excellent for looking how parts interact and connect to each other.
An amazing design, no doubt about it....but it doesn't look very Squaddie proof to me! Lol
