I'm glad you mentioned your jacket making the noise. I was looking very closely to see if I could see the baseball cards clipped on so they could hit the spokes of the wheels :)
Yeah, I totally didn't think about it till I started pedaling, and then was like...well...crap...that's probably annoying. But it was super chilly otherwise.
Mavic Attack and Lumberjack mode on the DJI scares my credit card so much that I had to move some furniture to find it after watching the DJI Kamikaze a tree and drop in the drink.
But there is also a 1in sensor on a drone under 600g. It appears that DJI is more interested in the technology of the camera than sensors and software like Skydio is doing.
It's more of a safety feature it seems like than a performance feature if that makes sense. I don't know if I"d consider the Air 2s to be "autonomous" really the way it's clear the Skydio is.
That's where the Mavic 3 will come in. There are no side obstacle avoidance systems on this, same as the last. I think the Mavic 3 when it does come out, will be better than the Skydio2, and will be on top again. If you think about it, it took a long time for other companies to try to catch up to the last Mavic 2 pro. There is just too much money left on the table for DJI to stop at the Pro 2, and they know it. I think this is a money grab, and also to buy time while the Mavic 3 has been in development for a long time now. Just my opinion.

Personally I would chose a different spot to test my drones, away from any bodies of water and I would never dip into canal to recover it , too cold, to dark and too wet! :) And you lost your go pro camera , what a terrible day...
I think the choice of the location was calculated. "If it falls into the water I get some drama in my video" style. Otherwise it makes for the stupid choice.
Great vid Ray! I’ve owned most of the DJI drones and Skydio 2. The Skydio is amazing BUT I’ve crashed and destroyed 2 of them - they really struggle with trees like the ones you were flying around (leafless), and I feel that a lot of it is due to sheer luck! Although 2 are broken, I’ve ordered a third, as it’s simply unbeatable for the shots that it delivers. I hope Skydio can make the gimbal part a bit burlier as that’s the weak point when it crashes! Great comparison 👍
So I’m in the market for a new drone. My old Air 1 is on its last leg. You probably just saved me from pulling the trigger on this one. 🤔 I can’t decide
If you only want to Make track footage - go for the Skydio. But if you want a good allrounder with some Problems in Obstacle Avoidance - go for the air 2s

DJI is just better at shooting static objects. Why is everyone so demanding of DJI? Do they have to be completely ahead of their competitors in every field? Apple doesn't charge as fast as Android phones, but that doesn't hurt iPhone sales.
@@jutea9858 Charging as fast as a competitor vs releasing an advertised technology SPECIFICALLY meant to save your high priced technology that just... Doesn't work well at all.. those are apples and oranges. This is what the DJI website says: The combination of portability, safety, and intelligent technology means you can spend more time enjoying flights and less time worrying about them. Take DJI Air 2S into the sky confidently, every flight. Environment Sensing DJI Air 2S has the ability to perceive its environment in four directions: up, down, forward, and backward. The algorithms for Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS 4.0) have been further improved, allowing DJI Air 2S to actively avoid obstacles in more complex scenarios and at high speeds. ---------- Look, if you read that, and watched that above video and said "Nah it's fine, don't gotta be good at everything, why so demanding?"... Then I don't know what to tell ya. Expecting what a company says their product can do, and calling out it's failure to do so is ACTUALLY THE RIGHT THING TO DO. Not yelling that ^ just emphasizing the point.
Trash review. Drone works much differently in real life. This drone has no side sensors so I don’t understand why people expect it to to avoid things on the side. When did we start expecting drones to avoid things without 360 obstacle avoidance. We certainly wouldn’t have tried with this the original mavic pro.
Great review as always. I kept my original Air and bought the Skydio 2 because of the obstacle avoidance and the beacon, and not needing to lug a controller with you like you have to do with the Air 1, 2 2S etc for any type of tracking more than 100 yards.
@@jutea9858 I have the spark, mavic air, mini 1, mavic 2 zoom, and the air 2. I have no real need for the 2s. Mavic 3/ Phantom 5 is going to be special and that's what ill be waiting for.
Moral of this story is stay away from canals lined with trees. I mean seriously why would you? If it fails it's got a big chance of landing in the bloody water. 🤔
Great video. Your conclusion makes complete sense. The Skydio 2 was perfect at tracking nearly. The DJI left some to be desired as it hit quite a bit. There is vastly more to it than that though. I even really was noticing the Skydio was struggling keeping semi level when going sideways at times. I could definitely see a lot of tilt and forward and backwards as it avoided trees (as well as wind). While DJI had some of that I believe their overall goal is kind of smoothness and consistency. Not bobbing and out but keeping the same distance and not making the more jerky of motions. The DJI is definitely more of a professional option with the 1 inch sensor and 20MP camera. Skydio is more active tracking specific with solid video that’s more comparable to the Mavic Pro 1st Gen and reminds me of the DJI Spark with the phone only option.
Thanks for a great review! Based on your earlier reviews I purchased the Skydio 2 last year and love it. I still have four other drones including a Mavic Pro and Mavic 2 zoom, but when I'm biking, the Skydio 2 is my drone of choice. By the way, excellent review on the Garmin Rally Power Meter. You helped me decide to purchase the SPD version last week. Good product.
EDITED: excellent, honest review....none of the other reviewers are talking about this in their so called 'reviews'.... why did they include 4 sensors in the front while the same job can be done by 1 sensor in the rear. instead of 4 front sensors wouldnt it have been better off with side sensors?

Because a reliable tracking drone opens up a whole new world of the type of content you can produce while still doing most of what a mavic can do with some range limitations.

I guess the DJI FAN boys aren’t happy with the outcome of your testing. I have been flying DJI now since the beginning. The combination of portability, safety, and intelligent technology means you can spend more time enjoying flights and less time worrying about them. Take DJI Air 2S into the sky confidently, every flight.
Environment Sensing
DJI Air 2S has the ability to perceive its environment in four directions: up, down, forward, and backward. The algorithms for Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS 4.0) have been further improved, allowing DJI Air 2S to actively avoid obstacles in more complex scenarios and at high speeds.
----------
Look, if you read that, and watched that above video and said "Nah it's fine, don't gotta be good at everything, why so demanding?"... Then I don't know what to tell ya. Expecting what a company says their product can do, and calling out it's failure to do so is ACTUALLY THE RIGHT THING TO DO. Not yelling that ^ just emphasizing the point.
@@Janus1000 they should get sued.
Trash review. Drone works much differently in real life. This drone has no side sensors so I don’t understand why people expect it to to avoid things on the side. When did we start expecting drones to avoid things without 360 obstacle avoidance. We certainly wouldn’t have tried with this the original mavic pro.
@@anthonybanaszak5759 ok and what about the front collision sensors that also fucked up twice??
Great review as always. I kept my original Air and bought the Skydio 2 because of the obstacle avoidance and the beacon, and not needing to lug a controller with you like you have to do with the Air 1, 2 2S etc for any type of tracking more than 100 yards.
Thanks, I'll wait for the Mavic 3
@Lon Denard i understand that the skydio is a great sport drone...i like cinematography and thats where it falls short...
2S is great right now, it just can't compete with skyido2 in tracing, but way better in other functions.
@@jutea9858 I have the spark, mavic air, mini 1, mavic 2 zoom, and the air 2. I have no real need for the 2s. Mavic 3/ Phantom 5 is going to be special and that's what ill be waiting for.
@@jamarrpurnell7005 okay that make sense.
Impressed my Skydio capabilities. The last section of the video with Skydio was really good.
I don't mess with Active track unless it's a safe open space.
Damn, probably the most honest review I have ever seen.
Man, your videos are expensive 💰 💵 😱 thanks for the information
Thanks for a great review! Based on your earlier reviews I purchased the Skydio 2 last year and love it. I still have four other drones including a Mavic Pro and Mavic 2 zoom, but when I'm biking, the Skydio 2 is my drone of choice. By the way, excellent review on the Garmin Rally Power Meter. You helped me decide to purchase the SPD version last week. Good product.
Can U do Air 2 vs Air 2s to see if it's actually got worse?
I'm not sure he can now...
Seeing as how the air 2s is still at the bottom of the canal, I doubt it.
@@uspockdad6429 haha I definitely didn't think that through
All I heard was DJI air2S is the superior drone.
At least underwater 😁
I appreciate the commitment to trying to find the drone, i've subscribed and liked! great work! this solidified my purchase for the Skydio 2
ooh man you just lose that drone and seriously seriously depressed., literally broke my heart
EDITED: excellent, honest review....none of the other reviewers are talking about this in their so called 'reviews'.... why did they include 4 sensors in the front while the same job can be done by 1 sensor in the rear. instead of 4 front sensors wouldnt it have been better off with side sensors?
I'm pretty sure I discussed the lack of side sensors numerous times...
@@Dcrainmaker yes yes, and i am really appreciative of that... i meant the other reviewers are not talking about such shortcomings..... after having finished watching this video of yours, i am now seeing your other videos like the insta go 2, and dji FPV.... really honest and excellent reviews..... keep it up
lol now thats a review 😂
Haha...thanks!
Excellent honest review of the Active track feature on the DJI Air 2S. Keep up the good work.
DJI wants you to cut all the tree branches before you use the drone to follow you.
Thanks for taking the time to make this thoughtful, thorough, test-and-report.
Why would anyone buy a one-trick drone?
Because a reliable tracking drone opens up a whole new world of the type of content you can produce while still doing most of what a mavic can do with some range limitations.
If it may mean the difference between having a working drone and 'having' one at the bottom of a canal...
Hey, man Thank you for doing these tests for us. And sorry for your loss.
6:42 😂😂😂 mejor momento del video
You provided us with a good clear comparison despite of losing your drone and gopro 👍
Very sad that DJI still hasn’t mastered tracking.
Thanks for making this video comparison. It sucks you had to lose a drone to give us this comparison of the 2 drones. It was very impressive to see the Skydio go between the trees autonomously.
Thank you so much for saving me that $999 (was thinking of upgrading from Air 2 to Air 2S). And after years of watching your channel, I subscribed without thinking when seeing you jumping into the canal to save the drone ! That speaks passions. :)
Always good honest reviews from this guy! Keep up the work
Very good deductions and completely honest. I specially appreciated the honesty of the video even though you DJI really let you down. Liked and subscribed for that reason. I like honest reviews.
Thanks for the video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You just gained a new subscriber... And yeah I just got a mail from skydio about my new drone ready to ship. Sorry for your loss 🙏
Thanks - enjoy the new drone! Oh, and while I make it look easy flying the Skydio here, I'd recommend spending a bit of time with it first at a football field complex or giant field where you can get familiar with it before doing trickier stuff. Enjoy!
Great job on this video. I'm debating between getting the DJI Air 2 or Mavic Air 2. Videos like yours will help me learn what I need to know. Thank you. Cheers. Subbed.
Excellent and honest review. And that's exactly why I will never be an early buyer again. And that's why I will not be fooled by all those paid commercial channels. I have the air2 and I love it but after few firmware updates.
I have an air 2s on the way now. Pretty bummed on their PR and the loss. I appreciate the real review, helps me avoid an issue.
Love the comparison. I have a Mavic and the SKYDIO. I love them both for their individual strengths.
I enjoy you talking with your ‘little buddy’ drone
Sorry for your loss.. subbed to contribute ever so slightly to your channel
Excellent video, you really put a huge amount of time and energy into it!
The Air 2S is certainly not a drone for sport tracking at close range, although the improved zoom functionalities allow for some decent tracking while flying higher than surrounding obstacles
Gotta try that
You know it. I know it. We all know it. This was just the type of video we wanted, and we got it. I liked it, subscribed to it, shared it on Facebook, Instagram story, and all my phone contacts.
One of the best reviews ever
Thanks alot buddy
Subscribed because of the objective pov and review. Keep it up!
That ending was a boot to the head to DJI.......loved it............
Appreciate all the good humor in your review.
Great video mate- already bought mine mavic air 2s few days ago- going through all tutorials now to reduce risks while filming for my sports channel - the Dji tip for avoid flying sideways while tracking was definitely worth it 😝 hopefully they get it fixed a bit here
Excellent review. I just purchased the Air2s , as my first drone and trying to figure out all the different tracking modes. TY
Might need to find a path lined with trees that does not have a water feature nearby. Nice work on the video, great information thank you.
Very impressed with the Skydio tracking, excellent presentation. Liked and subbed 👍
Superb work. I lost air 2s to parallel active track today. Fortunately it was the 3 rd day so back to Amazon in returns
Seriously! How could anyone give you a thumbs down on this review. I think you pointed out perfectly, the pros and cons of the DJI. I guess the DJI FAN boys aren’t happy with the outcome of your testing. I have been flying DJI now since the beginning. And The Skydio is heads and shoulders above DJI when it comes to sports tracking and obstacle avoidance. We have had so many killer shots ruined by the DJI obstacle avoidance sensors stopping the drone during a shoot. Great job! Sorry you lost your drone in the river. Even worse that DJ I didn’t step up and take care of it. DJI is falling behind in technology and better do something quick.
Now this is a good down to earth no nonsense review. Well done, well done and thank you. The swimming was an added treat😁. Keep safe
