Absolutely the right thing you said as conclusion. I sold today my Mavic 2 pro with fly morefor 860€ and can buy the Air 2s for 999€. Don’t need the fly more combo, have better case and just need 1 or 2 batteries but not urgently within the first days. So I only have to spend 140€ and get a better, lighter and new (guarantee) drone for a small amount to spend.
Air 2S is a proof that we are getting closer to the release of Mavic 3 with probably even bigger sensor & stunning image quality. These smaller drones have better features than M2P signifies beyond the shadow of a doubt that DJI will release Mavic 3 soon.
This is a super late comment but I just started looking into a drone to incorporate into my workflow and I completely agree with this comment. There’s no reason why anyone would buy the M2P right now when the A2S is out.
I own both. I shoot panos a lot. Panos from air 2s look stretched because of wider lens. I dont like it. I still love night shots and panos of the 2 pro
Thanks for a great & critical review ! :) For those considering buying the Air 2s in a EU-Country: I only found one source talking about the new C-Label and they say the 2s wont have it. Kind of a deal breaker for me, as I don't want to have to put my drone in the garbage Jan 01 2023.
I usually do a bucket load of research before I buy anything , especially something this expensive. This time I just pretty much just bought the Air 2 on the spot to replace my ageing Phantom 3 ( I know, I'm a bit behind) without realising what an amazing piece of equipment I have purchased. This is already restarted my love of flying and filming, something that has tapered off over time.
So basically 2 years later and DJI still isn’t purposely making a better drone than the Mavic 2 Pro...4K 60 on a drone is somewhat pointless but nice to have but super punched in. The 5.4K is kinda pointless, but welcomed. And honestly the wider it gets the worse it gets. I love the punched in feel for professional work. So here we are in 2021, the Hasselblad camera still delivers a more customisable filmmakers choice, good on DJI for developing cheaper and better for new drone users. But Mavic 2 Pro owners are sitting with a 2 year old device that’s still a beast! Love the video Landon 👌
Mavic 3 is going to have lenses that attach. This is huge for narrative and commercial work because it gives drones that block buster look with parallax !
@@TJIzzy brother I have had conversation with Landon. He has said he is busy in other works. For FTFM they have came up with photography course as well. There is more work he needs to do
The slightly extended range and improved tracking as well as onboard ADS-B receiver to detect nearby aircraft are the biggest advantages over the Mavic 2 Pro.
Looks good! If I didn't already have the M2pro I would lean towards this one. Me switching from the M2pro to the A2S is kind of a lateral move. Both have exceptional quality.

tbh I felt like the intro sequence had framerate mismatch issues. The foreground elements were jittery to my eyes, does anyone else see the same thing?
The fixed aperture is a deal-breaker in my opinion. Boosting your shutter speed on DJI always looks so bad; frames skip in premiere etc. So you'd essentially have to get the exposure completely correct with just one ND filter as boosting ISO also destroys DJI footage (even ISO 200 in my experience). Aperture is the best way to change exposure when lighting changes during flight.
Hi, what about the weight ? A2S ia 500g and M2P 900g. In the wind M2P is more stable … so in the end is cabable for nice cinema footage compared with A2S
Mavic 2 Pro now comes with the smart controller with built-in screen. Might be something to consider as far as convenience since you don’t have to bother with hooking up your phone.
I scrolled through the comments to see if anyone else noticed this. I have seen some reviews that aren't jittery, so maybe we just should start using 30p all the time. There's a great comparison with other DJI units by Make.Art.Now ua-cam.com/video/bwxkmNKBQbE/v-deo.html at 11 minutes 24 seconds he shoots at 24p and it's easy to see the jittery effect again. ua-cam.com/video/bwxkmNKBQbE/v-deo.html
@@martinXY that’s a great review for sure. What the reviewers need to do is film everything in all the same frame rate or match them after. It’s easy when filming to accidentally change the A2S frame rate. Like when going from 5.4K to 4K when you want to track. I have done it myself and switched from 30 to 24p. That was a fun fix.
10:30 if you guys can spot the jerking of the video (like pause and play) taken from 2S. I'm seriously thinking to buy new drone...
I'm thinking about my first drone. And now it's between mini2 and air 2s. Which one will you recommend? The purpose it's mostly photos... is it quality OK on mini2? I'm using full frame canon camera and I'm wondering if the quality of mini2 will not be annoying for me... maybe 2s it's the best choice...
Nice video. I noticed in your drone footage that the frame rate was a little stuttery or jerky. Did you film it in 30 fps or 60 fps? I've noticed that if I film in 60 fps, it's no longer jerky looking.
thanks for the comparison. Good job. I have air2 and after testing air2s I do not see the need to replace it, air2s was supposed to be a pro2 killer and it is not. 1 inch and 10 bit I thought there would be a huge difference and it is minimal or sometimes none. You can make a mistake unlike the 2 pictures, I'm waiting for what they show in Pro3. only it will be big and heavy and expensive
For a 1st time buyer this is a great choice. Good review :) IMO the Mavic 2 Pro camera will produce better video & stills. The adjustable aperture is not insignificant. Furthermore, you do not always have the time to shoot in D-log and do grading in post. Mavic 2 better straight off the SD card IMO. The 5.4K video is limited to 30 FPS and while 4K is wonderful, in what resolution will you deliver your final product? Do you often downsample to deliver in a more bandwidth friendly 1080 format? I will often shoot in 2.7K or even 1080 saving space on my cards and minimizing rendering in post processing. As far as the controller and new Occusync "O3" version go, I can't speak to it technically. However, I can't remember a time I had signal problems flying within a "visual range" like you are supposed to be doing with O2. The 4 antennas are for receive only. Still just 2 antennas for transmit. Yeah phone on top is better. Having the phone on the top of the controller is a plus but the new controller has no displayed data. If your phone dies, for whatever reason, I guess it will immediately go RTH? I would still give the overall edge to M2 Pro over this new model. No doubt there is a Mavic 3 Pro or similar in the pipeline though ...
I was wondering if you shoot in aperture mode with your pro? Funny, but I usually use the F4 aperture when I fly for money. It seems optimal for crisp stills using the limited 1” sensor. I have been supremely happy with my Pro2.
Very informative 👏. I think since it is my first time flying a Drone I'll stick to the Mavic 2 Pro just because of the Sensors. I wouldn't like to crash my First Baby 😊
Seems nobody talks about the 2S not being able to use the DJI Smart Controller. I love that piece when you shoot in daylight and for the quick set-up time. On an iPhone it was a pain (Can't see much in bright daylight and sometimes got phone calls in the middle of a shoot.) . That to me too is a big advantage of the Mavic 2 Pro. Hope the Mavic 3 Pro is not too far away. Will wait for that..!
I totally agree with what you said about the controller Anton, all these reviews keep talking about the image quality & fail to touch on other important facts, they are only 1/2 a review.
-- Excellent comprehensive comparison . . . including voice quality, rate of speech, clarity of explanations, and specific quality examples. Thank you, Parker Walbeck.
After a year or two on the Mavic 2 Pro I would say the 'Hasselblad' on the lens is little more than branding. Yes, the colour, straight out of camera is good, but the lens itself is rubbish. It's soft and has terrible corners. Hasselblad's original lens designers would surely be hanging their heads in shame. That said, I only use the cropped mode and that solves most of the corner issues and is a good perspective for the work I do. Also, for all it's camera woes, the drone flys very well and maintains solid reception. I tested the Mavic 3 recently at work and the camera/sensor/lens is much improved especially for stills and the flying experience better again, but I can't believe DJI left out Tripod Mode. With out that, I don't think it would work for me. Cheers for this review.
Great video guys! Sorry to be nit picky but I am in the FTF course and you teach about proper shutter speed and motion blur but why is it that it seems like all your drone footage was shot at the wrong shutter speed? Its stuttery and not pleasing to watch. Could it be only on my end?
Well done video Parker...thanks you....personally I would be leaning toward the 2 Pro, however the one new feature about the 2s that I liked was the gimicky autonomous flight mode where it basically creates a small movie. I could not find any where that the 2 Pro has that feature. Do you know? Thank you in advance for your time.
what's your opinion of the new controller when it comes to adjusting the shutter speed? On my mavic I use a wheel to adjust shutter and I don't think this one has the wheel. How has that been working for you?
So 5 UA-camrs that I follow released a video on this drone and Peter is the only one sponsored? DJI needs u more than you need them. You guys have 1.5m subs. - know your worth!
The camera comparison was helpful to see. I'd love to hear your overall thoughts on the DJI oversharpened image and clunky codec. For my uses, I hope they chase a pleasing image and smoother playback faster than the resolution race. Something that cuts better with cinema cameras. Maybe that'll be the Mavic 3? It's still a great accomplishment to fit that tech in a small body. Thanks for your review!
Keep in mind that the Air 2S uses the DJI Fly App which is only supported on/by flagship phones. The Mavic 2 Pro uses the the DJI Go4 App which is supported on even entry level phones. Careful when buying a new drone since it will cost you R30 000/ 2000 USD/ 1505 GBP to buy a new flagship phone on top of the price of the Air 2S.

Not in the least bit excited for the 2S but way more excited to consider a DJI Pocket 3 with a 1 inch sensor since DJI tends to pair them together and leap frog them. In the order of Mavic Air/OSMO Pocket, Air 2/Pocket2. So lets hope for 2S/Pocket 3 to continue the tradition of sharing the same sensor. And with that Moaz screen competition, lets see if DJI will use that accessory port to include a flippy screen and a 1 inch sensor!!!!

I actually use of all things the Yuneec Q500(I know but I bought it like four years ago) do they use the same batteries? meaning the Mavic Pro2 and the DJI Air 2S? if not how much are extra batteries? I was thinking of just adding one so I could get 40-50 minutes of flight time and do they have any kind of portable charging for the batteries?
I just bought the S2 but I would not call it the Mavic 2 killer.. Like the A2 in windy conditions it won't matter what camera you have you will have issues flying the smaller aircraft.... If you have the Mavic 2 pro don't get rid of it for S2.. Keep both and have the best of both worlds..

Air 2S is a proof that we are getting closer to the release of Mavic 3 with probably even bigger sensor & stunning image quality. These smaller drones have better features than M2P signifies beyond the shadow of a doubt that DJI will release Mavic 3 soon.
Well put, feels like an Apple Iphone upgrade. It should be better, but could have better like a year ago.
This is a super late comment but I just started looking into a drone to incorporate into my workflow and I completely agree with this comment. There’s no reason why anyone would buy the M2P right now when the A2S is out.
5k$ 😭
@@YoucefXY that Cine is no joke man but $5k jeez. More and more manufacturers and investing in their high end systems :(
@@jd3330 it is good for sure, but that's not a usual DJI price tag for their friendly lineup xD
I own both. I shoot panos a lot. Panos from air 2s look stretched because of wider lens. I dont like it. I still love night shots and panos of the 2 pro
Thanks for a great & critical review ! :)
For those considering buying the Air 2s in a EU-Country:
I only found one source talking about the new C-Label
and they say the 2s wont have it.
Kind of a deal breaker for me,
as I don't want to have to put my drone in the garbage
Jan 01 2023.
The police wont care id u fly this anyway after 2023
I usually do a bucket load of research before I buy anything , especially something this expensive. This time I just pretty much just bought the Air 2 on the spot to replace my ageing Phantom 3 ( I know, I'm a bit behind) without realising what an amazing piece of equipment I have purchased. This is already restarted my love of flying and filming, something that has tapered off over time.
Didnt expect that this will drone will be a close comparison to the Pro. Exciting upgrades!
@Jom James pro 3
Highly doubt that
Hope the obstacle avoidance gets better skydio is categorically embarrassing DJI as far as that's concerned
This will never happen. They will keep the inspire 2 for that.
I am really missing Parker. Hope he gets back with great content. But the team FTF are still doing great job love you guys
Same here
Why would he when he makes the same $ not having to make videos? Lol
Life isn’t all about money
@@TJIzzy brother I have had conversation with Landon. He has said he is busy in other works. For FTFM they have came up with photography course as well. There is more work he needs to do
The more I see about the Air 2 S, the more I am starting my new-drone fund toward this purchase (for indie film).
The next iteration to shoot in portrait mode will get my vote. This is the sole reason I am still on the Mavic Pro 1.
The slightly extended range and improved tracking as well as onboard ADS-B receiver to detect nearby aircraft are the biggest advantages over the Mavic 2 Pro.
the ADS-B is not of much use since the aircraft that fly at drone level usually don't have that feature.
@@12vibaba I think its good to know when aircraft are nearby in general though.
Sound design on that first sequence is immaculate!
Surprised nobody ever mentions that the Mavic 2 pro can livestream to facebook youtube and other pages and the fly app doesn't have that feature!
Looks good!
If I didn't already have the M2pro I would lean towards this one. Me switching from the M2pro to the A2S is kind of a lateral move. Both have exceptional quality.
DJI is probably going to launch a new Mavic this year
@@plasmac14 so what? They get it to 6k and a little bit better of a sensor / dynamic range, maybe. Why switch if the M2Pro is a decent staple? We shall see if / when down the line they produce a new Mavic 3**
@@jondoeslifestuff What do you mean by so what? That that's the point of the As2 being as good as the Mavic2, that there are going to be better upgrades...just what you just said
they just released the mavic 3 and it has absolutely exceptional and unmatched quality.
6:15 are these filters only part of a particular package? I just bought the Air 2s from Costco and no filters were included.
tbh I felt like the intro sequence had framerate mismatch issues. The foreground elements were jittery to my eyes, does anyone else see the same thing?
love the unbiased review! by far the most honest channel on UA-cam
What camera are you using to shoot the footage between 13:22 and 13:30?
Nice to see a review that’s not just a commercial shilling for the company. Thanks for sharing
Great video! What memory card should I buy to record in 5k on air 2 s?
The dynamic range in the Hasselblad is way better. Any good photographer would tell you to try to get the shot as good as possible in camera.
Only people with notifications on will know that the original title was "DJI AIR 2S - The Mavic 2 Pro Killer??"
This review is sooooo unbiased. M2P for me. Aperture change allows me to maintain frame rate under different shooting conditions
Is that super jittery footage during the intro sequence due to mixing clips with different frame rates in your time line?
Yeah all these film pros insist on 24fps even though youtube is 30fps+
@@jon_collins I see a ton of it in the Air 2S reviews today. It looks terrible.
I have mavic 2 pro just crash into the sea yesterday (I believe eagle take that down), I found that similar even on 60 fps footage. I don't know how to solve this issue. Please let me know.. I'm seriously thinking to buy new drone...
Just sold my A2 and ordered an A2S. I had 55 hours and 360 miles on the A2. Excited about lower noise night photos to sell.
I'm upgrading from my Mini 2, to give my silent hiking videos a little lift XD
Good review :)
IMO the Mavic 2 Pro camera will produce better video & stills.
Dammit there goes my Mavic2 resale value. DJI always upping the game so fast
Why isnt it compatible with the smart controller?
I REALLY hope Master Shots becomes available for other DJI drones in the future. That could be a game changer and make like so easy and convenient!
Well put together and very helpful. I recon the Air 2s is definitely the way to go for me. No point in spending the extra dollars.
Going to try the Mini 2, but the 2 air is either next or if I'm not happy with the Mini 2.
What this means if they are so close is that DJI is coming out with a Mavic Pro 3! I'll save my money for now and wait for that!
Coming out, when?
i really love your video color tone. would you mind to share what color LUT or color setting you use?
First time buyer of a drone. Was just about to purchase the Mini 2, should I buy this one? I need it for roof and building inspections.
If you're talking about Mastershots then the 2 pro doesn't have the feature.
what's your opinion of the new controller when it comes to adjusting the shutter speed? On my mavic I use a wheel to adjust shutter and I don't think this one has the wheel. How has that been working for you?
So 5 UA-camrs that I follow released a video on this drone and Peter is the only one sponsored?
DJI needs u more than you need them. You guys have 1.5m subs. - know your worth!
Just for your information - DJI did not do a "collaboration" with Hasselblad, DJI owns Hasselblad. They are the majority shareholder since Jan. 2017!
Before Dji uploaded. I love it 🙏💯
Great helpful video. I own the Air 2 (not S) Does the Air 2S have 8k hyperlapse like my Air 2?
Great video! You answered all my questions, as I wonder which one to buy.
Thanks for your review!
yeah playback in davinci is crap with the footage
The Mavic 2 Pro takes fantastically smooth 4K video
Keep in mind that the Air 2S uses the DJI Fly App which is only supported on/by flagship phones. The Mavic 2 Pro uses the the DJI Go4 App which is supported on even entry level phones. Careful when buying a new drone since it will cost you R30 000/ 2000 USD/ 1505 GBP to buy a new flagship phone on top of the price of the Air 2S.
Did you check if the nd filters of the Mavic 2 pro fit on the Air2s?
Great and informative video. A pleasure to listen to and watch! Thanks - it helped me in my decision to get the Air 2S. Keep up your good work!
Can I connect FPV-glasses to them? And does the flying distance decrease because of this?
Good video, im just about to go and drop the hard earned on the pro but have pressed pause with the new air 2 s dropping, you didn't mention of any of the really important stuff like batteries, does it work with the smart controller, do you still need the fly more kit & so on.

This is the most independent review I've seen! Great video, thanks for all the information!
Does the new dji mavic air 2s has also the d-cinelike for option or just the d-log. Has to know it, because i like more d-cinelike..
The comparison between the pro 2 and 2S at the 3:30 mark, the pro 2 looks hazy.. Serious question: why is that?...
What is the pulsing in the faster drone shots? Is that mixed frame rate? Saw it on other drone vids too.. Looses the smooth feel....
Landon...thank you so much for your very informative video. I've been wanting to upgrade my drone for the last few years. Every time DJ comes out with a new one, I want to jump on it. But price always has me waiting and dragging my feet. This one seems like the REAL DEAL!!!
Well it's maybe only me who don't line the new 2S, I need fStops and I love colours more from Mavic Pro 2
We want video compare it with skydio 2 Obstacle avoid feature which one better!
u already know which would win
@@theBbOoSSss which do you think??
@@mohala1271 obviously the skydio. the air lacks side sensors. maybe if dji had put the top sensors to the side but they wouldnt cause they are working on mavic 3. only the mavic 3 or pro 3 whatever they call it, would stand a chance against skydio obstacle avoidance.
Are you sure you didn't mixed-up the footage at 4:56?
We are not sponsored by DJI, perhaps they could be waiting to put all the new tech into the new Mavic 3, sell your Mavic 2 to someone who hasn't seen this vid, buy the new Air2, upgrade for free and when you have some pocket money to spare, enlist in our course.
Best punchline ever without being dishonest, great review and add. xD
yep i would agree but i would say that any wider field of view than 22mm it just starts to look like a smart phone video
Great comparison and review. I have to think the DJ I would have to start thinking about some kind of waterproof system for the motors so you can fly in extreme downpour. Or think about making a drone that can dive right into a freaking Lake , get underwater footage and then fly right back out..🤔
Haha chill brah!
Thanks bro you helped me a lot with mi channel, I have to say thank you 🙏🏻!! From Italy
Meh. Air 2S is an awesome drone for one who doesn't already have a Mavic 2 Pro (or maybe even the Air 2)... I love the footage I get out of the M2P and will continue to do so until DJI teases me with a 3rd gen of the Pro... thanks for the review!
Same. It's s cash grab in my mind. Owning the Mini 2, M2P and the FPV bad boy, this don't have enough goodies.
@@TasmanianTiger88 exactly! I have the FPV (really fun and different), M2Pro and even an M2Zoom... a full fleet with no need for this one.
I have one question because I am in the market.
12:48 - Why does the Air 2S footage look so soft compared to the Mavic here? Slightly different grade?
Thank you for the video! 5,4 k - 4:2:2 or 4:2:0?
If you're shooting stills in RAW (and you should be), the Hasselblad stuff goes completely out the window... 100% marketing magic, and nothing else really. I had the Mavic 2 Pro but pretty hyped on replacing it with something extremely similar for a lower price. Yay progress.
Great video! Question: Does the new Air2s controller also fit iPad mini 4? I don't prefer to use my cell phone if I can help it. Does anyone know?
Will active track 4.0 come to the Magic Pro 2 in a software/firmware update?
