I bought a Holy Stone drone and now think it might have been a mistake. I registered it, did the TRUST test, have flown it from my home which is a challenge with trees, fences, bushes, etc. The problem are restrictions everywhere. We have a natural park within a half mile but you can't fly there, schools with large open areas and generally no one around, can't fly there. In order to join a group of RC plane operators it will cost me $150 per year and I must schedule my flights well in advance , like 2 weeks is recommended. So far in doing the research I have found no place reasonably close to fly. This is not what I had in mind. This is not "fun" or recreational.
Very true free men dont ask youre a clown if you fully comply to these 'laws', it's your drone so you can fly it however you want........... a car on the road isnt any safer
@@hotdogwaterenthusiast haha, freemen can however, get heavy fines imposed. But I wouldn’t tell and I am fortunate to live in a place they would never know unless it crashed into some aircraft.
Just getting into flying drones. I'm a pilot with an ATP certificate and over 13,000 flight hours. This is all new to me and well explained! Thank you for all the info. I needed this!!
I am a novice recreational flyer with my DJI drone for about two years now. I have learned more from 3 of your videos than others combined, thank you. I plan to watch many more.
Just bought a DJI MIni 2 which technically is below the 250g rec usage limit, but my county requires registration regardless, so register I did. The big challenge I am now finding is a place to fly given restrictions beyond just FAA rules. I thought I knew a place, drove down there to find a US Corp of Engineers no drones sign. Hope I didn't just buy a $600 brick.
I fly for fun, have had drones from the beginning. but getting afraid to fly because of all the rules, that seem to keep changing. I only fly around my house and yard, sometimes around the neighbor's big field, just for fun,and I can't fly it by looking just at the screen, I look at the drone at all times when it is in the air, if I can hear an aircraft, I will land until it is gone,. THere is an airport a few miles away but the only contact is when you are aproching the airport you click a certian radio channel to turn on the runway lights at night, no people to talk to. All my drones have their registration numbers on them. Just a note, I am 75 years old now and I used to have a commercial Helicopter license and it wasn,t as complicated as trying to fly one of these toy plastic drones.
I have the new mini 3 pro and it was 249g regular battery.. thats why I did bought the non kit plus battery because it will be above 250g. Thanks for the info..
Brand new to the drone community. Just got a new drone as a birthday gift. This was really helpful for learning all that I need to get started. Thank you!
Thanks for this great summary of the rules. Unfortunately, the necessity to pass a test, register my drone, put a tail number on it, have an observer for FPV, and eventually a remote ID transmitter and be restricted to flying in a football field size bubble....seems ridiculous and is keeping me from buying any new drones at this point.
Well explained! Thanks!! I just passed the 107 test and waiting for my official certificate. Even though I know that nearly all (if not all) of my activity will be recreational, it's comforting to know that I don't need to worry if I accidentally cross some subjective line about intent. It seems like a small price to pay to learn all the rules to ensure safety for everyone.
I got toy drone some years ago to play with. After a couple months I decided to get one with a better camera (720 mp) but still cheap so I could really learn so I could get a really decent one for photography. Then the Rules started to kick in. Ok, I thought, not a big deal. And then pretty much every single place I would like to take a drone for vacation photos (parks) either banned them or made an expensive permit necessary. As a result that second drone has never been used more than a test flight in my living room. I am totally digusted with the whole bureaucracy.
I got my part 107 with Pilot Institute. Great school. I highly recommend this course. I took it, I passed on the first try and I now have a drone business. Thank you Greg and the gang. FYI I am not a compensated rep. I am a real student.
This was valuable information for sure. I was not aware of the TRUST exam until today. I took the free offered program and passed. It did take the full 30 minutes as described. I subscribed and clicked the bell so I can keep up to date on any new regulations. Thanks.
Thank you I did my two Free Course - Recreational Flying Made Easy, Mavic Air 2 Deep Dive. Thank you again for doing all the hard work for us so we can keep enjoying flying our Drone. 🇺🇸 👍🏻
I'm just getting into Drones (just bought a mavic 3 pro and avata) and I love the UA-camrs in this community! Such a down-to-earth, respectful, knowledgeable, and helpful group of people! Love yall!
Thank you so much I passed the trust exam yesterday it was easy and I learned a lot, I hope to be starting the part 107 with pilot institute soon I look forward to Learning more every day.
Even though I'm licensed, I'm hitting more and more geofences and lock-out by DJI and the FAA. It's getting to the point where its not worth jumping through all the hoops. Especially if you get locked out on a paid gig.
Try another drone maker. DJI does that probably for PR reasons with the government, since they don't like Chinese drones. Although lots of drones are made in China, they don't all have geofencing.
Mini TREASURE TROVE, answering several FAQ ~relating to the FAA’s guidelines, for the flying and use of drones, both recreationally & commercially~ Each FAQ is not only answered (in a thorough, easy to understand fashion), but also broken down and explained. WELL DONE!!
Sorry to be asking but, I was just informed that flying my drone over Lake Piru dam was a federal offense. Although I wasn't actually flying OVER the dam itself and was at least 400 feet from the dam, I wasn't aware that (some, all) dams have federal restrictions regarding drone flight.
Newbie from Texas. I REALLY appreciate the free informational videos. Just getting started and will be working through the basics and hopefully on to 107 certificate eventually. 👊🏻🤙🏻
I am 81 years old and started flying model airplanes in the late 40s. I have flown R/C pattern competition, control line, and free flight. When the government started regulating the model hobby I hung up all my planes rather than have the FAA come to my house to confiscate all my planes because someone else screwed up. Also, if they cannot tell the difference between free flight, and control line as not being drones, they do not know the difference between cars and airplanes. But they love to control people and could care less they have destroyed a great hobby. I am retired and on a fixed income and have no provisions for 10,000 dollar fines. It makes no sense to me. I have no desire to go to court to let two lawyers decide my fate. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. No matter what you do with your planes they will find a way to destroy your life. Not worth it. A control line airplane is no different than a kite never getting over 70' from the flyer.
I am sorry that happened to you, yes sir you are 100% right about full control for government and they don't care. A bunch of liars and profiteers on people.
I'm not far behind in age. Within a few months after I bought my first quadcopter, the FAA announced that drones were to be regulated. Recent events bring to mind the question I had after that announcement. Rephrased for the context of current events, "Why are there so many rules for toys when a kid who just turned 18 can buy two assault rifles in Texas, and shoot up a school?" Where are the training, testing, licensing, requesting to use, certifying compliance with organizations, etc. for using firearms?
Drones do not kill people. People kill people. Guns do not kill people. People kill people. I have been flying model airplanes since I was 6 years old. Never once has one of them killed anyone. I have owned a few guns. Never once have any of my guns killed anyone. The gun did not go in that school by itself. He could have done the same damage with a pipe bomb. Government agencies love to make it look like they have solved the problem. But they never do. Chicago has the highest gun laws in the country, and 43 people were shot and killed over the weekend in Chicago. Where I live everyone has guns. There were no people killed over the weekend by guns. If you take the guns from law abiding people only killers will have guns. Cars do not kill people. People in cars kill people. Gods laws never stopped people from breaking them. We live in a fallen world. It will only get worse.
Great information...I was just having this conversation with my friend and this is exactly what I needed to know. I plan on enrolling in your course in the near future.
I am old and just got a drone for Christmas. I am so glad your video was on line because I had no idea of the rules you mentioned and nothing came with my drone. Thank you.
Thanks for the info. It's unfortunate that the FAA has the remote location is included in the Remote ID, it's going to scare a lot of people from the hobby or be limited by a drone that weighs less than 250 grams. I got into this hobby for aerial photography/videography, and I won't register a drone because I don't want my location broadcast to everyone. I was fine with registration until I found out that instead of my info being broadcast to the FAA or authorities in case something goes wrong but I hate the fact that they broadcast your info & location to the public. This will put a major hurt on the hobby. Do I still have to register my drone if it's under 250 grams? I may be wrong
I’m also a recreational flyer with a drone under 250 grams. (Mini 2) I’ve been researching this and NO, if your drone weighs 250 or less you do not have to register with the FAA. However, I noticed my DJI drone has “remote identification” listed in one of the set-up menus. What this does is unclear but I don’t think it has broadcast capability.
@King reels yep if you’re making money off your drone you must have part107. Trust me when I say it’s much cheaper to get the 107 than pay the heavy fines if caught without it.
@@richr108 how do you get caught without a 107 while flying a drone? In that moment, you have a sub 250g drone, how do they prove you’re not flying recreationally?
Thanks again. Information is always prompt and to the point. Appreciated. Note-I purchased the Drone Manuvers Mastery which has 50+ exercises to learn how to fly the drone better (much better). Though I have not finished it yet - I'm enjoying it and and Glad I bought it.
Thank you Greg for your awesome class. As I posted today on your class, I got an 80% today on my exam. This test is no joke. Most of my questions were on airspace and sectional charts. Most of my questions were not from any practice exam I have ever taken. This by far was the hardest exam I have ever taken in my life. I really thought I failed it when I walked out of the test room today. When he told me I got an 80%, I was shaking. I could not believe it. Thanks again Greg and I will be using your website for my educational needs when it comes to passing FAA tests! =)
So, I have passed the trust test and my drone is under the weight limit. Do I still need another license? Also, according to flight maps, I can not fly in my back yard due to controlled airspace but if I go 200 yards to the front of my neighborhood I can fly.
I’m an airline pilot so by default we get 100% on the test and it’s free to us. Love flying drones but being in southern Las Vegas not many areas where I can fly too much airspace
From what I understand from doing some research ( Cities, Counties, State Governments and The Park Service ) can not control the air space only the ground. So they many restrict "Launching and Controlling" your drone from certain locations, but not the airspace above their restricted areas. The FAA has full control and can restrict any airspace in the USA. Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I am new to flying drones.
yeah Boss, some day I'm gonna do that spend the $300 take your classes and get my Part 107,I love drone and I fly for fanny I have the DJI Air 2S but now im getting into the new mini fpv hobby, I Really like your channel, Thank you so much
Thank you for this, I'm about to get into drones with 2 DJI drones FPV and Mini 3 and this has helped a lot. I'll be watching the 2 hour video as well, greatly appreciate all the work you've put in!
This is exactly the video i was looking for. Explaining the differences between part 107 vs 44809 you also guided me to a great app showing restricted air spaces in my area. That air control app is also a great way to get in touch with the correct contacts if you wish to fly in those air spaces. I'm not far between 2 airports and within a short drive and fly from Disney.
Pilot Institute has been with me since I started flying drones a few years back Pilot institute is a trusted and great way to become a 107 pilot and plus they can keep you up to date on the new regs
So happy I found this channel. I am travelling to US this summer, and it looks so easy to fly there. Here in Spain, for starters, if you take pictures in urban environment it is already a "professional" flight, no matter the intend, and you must notify to the equivalent to Homeland Security before 10 labour days. And sooo many restricted areas in our B4UFLY... Sure my mini will come along!
This is a great list! While I plan on mostly flying recreationally, I want the added training, understanding, and situational awareness that comes with being Part 107 certified along with the opportunity to make extra money part-time on the side. I've been studying over the last week and a half and take the test in 2 days. Looking forward to flying my drone!
@@SteveWard151 I passed with an 83%. The location I went to, in addition to the reference booklet, sheet of paper, and a pair of pencils they also gave me a clear sheet of laminate with a dry erase marker and eraser. That helped greatly with the few questions dealing with looking xSM away from a location to get an exact fix on what they were asking for. Between watching 2-3 in-depth videos (1-3 hours long each) and a couple flashcard style apps on my phone is what I used to study.
Great job. Im taking gregs course, i feel confident that if i study and pay attention, i will pass. And if not, i probably shouldnt be flying without the knowlegde. Be safe out there folks.
Hi Greg! I'm one of your graduate students from your 107 Certification class. I passed on my first try at 87%. Thank you for the awesome guidance! I have just ordered a Mavic 3 Classic and I'm upgrading from my Mini 2 to the Mini 3 Pro. I'm happy using DJI products but I live in Florida, and listening to your latest newscast I found out about FL banning Chinese-made drones for their local gov't agencies. I see the DOD has done the same so long term I've began to wonder if DJI is a good investment. I looked at the brand options in the FL whitelist and only the Skydio 2+ line is apt for consumers. And they are certainly NOT DJI in many aspects. Now, at first I thought, maybe I should trade my Mavic 3 Classic for the Skydio, but I'm not ready to part with my new DJI drones. So, I've been thinking that perhaps the ban won't reach private citizens doing on-demand work for local businesses just yet. Maybe in the future I'll add the Skydio 2+ to my collection; perhaps when they have a more portable drone (where the legs fold) with a better-quality remote (the current remote feels like a cheap toy). As a Florida resident I've come to this conclusion after hearing your news update and doing some research. I am going to hold on to my DJI drones until they are banned, and hopefully by then Skydio has come up with drones that are closer to the DJI quality. What would you do if you were in my shoes? I'm not ready to give up on flying drones for commercial purposes just yet.
In addition to Greg's answer, Skydio has sadly abandoned the consumer market. I had planned on buying one for a long time, but colleting the $1200 or so to get one was slowing me down. Would've been a great drone to have!
China has already created their own style of NSA for world surveillance and Congress really wants to ban specific imports but cannot do this without interfering with the American free market. Computers have been turned into data mining tools for government and business and who knows if all that flight data from the DJI is kept in a database on Chinese government servers. We already know now what Snowden leaked back in 2012.
As for the 400 ft limit, how does that apply when you take off from a mountainside, for example, and then fly level and you’re immediately 1K ft or more from the bottom of the mountain? Thanks in advance.
I also fly in this type of terrian and would love to know the answer to this question. For now I read the rule as 400' above my take off elevation. Not sure if this is correct though. 🤔
thank you for this video I just bought a drone for 59.00 to learn how to fly one I know it's just a toy but I couldn't see spending a lot of money on something more advanced but after listening to you I think l'll get my money back, thanks for the info
Flying for pure pleasure and enjoyment, drone is under 249 grams, no money involved at all, as long as you're following basic guidlines '5 miles from any airport, under regulated altitude, away from people, buildings ect. don't need a license, permit or registration required by law, joining the AMA is a good idea but the rest is optional.
Great video, thanks so much for the clear and concise information. I have a DJI Mini 3 Pro which weighs in at 249g. However, if I use the Plus battery the drone would weigh more than 250g. Do I need to register the drone if I use the Plus battery, or can I get away without it?
Technically yes, but really, how many FAA inspectors are out there? Not many. And are they walking around with a calibrated scale to weigh drones? They're only going to actually be interested in you if you're being dumb enough to fly around an airport or heliport.
Across the street from me is the National Park. And, on a fairly regular, military planes come flying around. Usually in the zone of around 250 ft to around 500 ft. Drone flying around here can be difficult. I have talked to the police and the park rangers. I am told to keep my drone around 300 ft and no higher and I should have no problems. Don't land or take off in the park, and always bring your drone down when one of the military planes fly through. So I usually bring it to me and hover around 25 ft till the planes pass.
Thank you, just finished the Trust Certification. Nice to know there are people out there not trying to make a buck on something like this. Thank you!!
One inconsistency you mentioned is the AMA has been meeting with the FAA `from the beginning of the security concerns and continues to meet with them to develop and keep our creational status so we can continue fly. Just not fly in unapproved areas.
The problem is that in the US there are fewer and fewer places to fly (legally). In So. Calif it's even worse. I have been looking to buy a drone but with all the no-fly zones it just doesn't make sense.
The whole thing is a SCAM. Drones are harmless. It's like registering to pilot a kite. The whole point is to scare as many people away from drones as possible. Meanwhile, while the US ignorantly buries their head in the sand, China is making more and more crazy advanced drones that we can't even touch.
RANT WARNING, SORRY IN ADVANCE. Yeah, the government can do insider trading among many other crimes while we have to register and take a test before we can sht in a toilet if the turd is too long!? Sorry but this is all a bunch of BS! We should be telling them, we understand the reason for staying below 400 feet..... everything else, you can GFY! I mean seriously "AMERICAN PATRIOTS/WE THE PEOPLE"...... HAVE YOU LOST THE *WHOLE* CONCEPT OF FREEDOM!? I just love how we casually talk about them regulating us FLYING A DAMN TOY as if it were on the same level as getting a pilots license!? Okay yes, I know these could be used for nefarious purposes with a potential for harm..... BUT THAT'S TRUE OF A FREAKIN ROCK, BUTTER KNIFE OR A PLASTIC BAG FOR GOD'S SAKE! So not only do we brush off the "here's how you can play with your toy" BS, but we let them charge us for it too!? I don't know why we don't go ahead and change the name already...... from AMERICA TO CHINA! Whatever. Maybe this is just me being in a bad mood, I don't know, but one thing I DO KNOW..... AMERICA *AND AMERICANS* WERE A LOT DIFFERENT 30 YEARS AGO! Back then we wouldn't have so easily put up with this sht! Oh, & before anyone says, "this isn't that big a deal to get that upset about it".... I turn that back to you, if its not that big a deal, WHY ARE THEY REGULATING IT & CHARGING FOR IT!? PERSPECTIVE & PRIORITY MATTERS WHEN YOU HAVE NIETHER! I will say this much though, this definitely turns me away from wanting a drone now! Its just one more way for them to get you, your interests & activities "REGISTERED" then CHARGE you for the STRUCTURED "freedom" they ALLOW you to have.... no thanks! Okay, rant over.
First, Great Explanation. One thing that I didn't hear you mention is that National Parks are No Fly Zones; these are listed on AirMap, but every National Park employee knows that it is illegal to fly drones over any National Park and they WILL call the authorities. Next, the Visual Line of Sight thing is a bit challenging for FPV even with a spotter. So, while FPV is considered acceptable, in reality, the LOS stipulation is an excessive limitation. Consider just flying a small 2.5 inch quad FPV. From the pilot's perspective, it is near impossible to determine if you have exceeded VLOS. From a spotter perspective, it is near impossible to track or even tell if you can see it or not. The truth is that the Line Of Sight stipulation just kills FPV from the Recreational Exemption. So sad. On a different note, every child that wants to fly a tiny whoop quad is going to have to get a TRUST certificate. This is just absurd. Any way you want to look at it, the FAA is going to effectively kill FPV as a recreational hobby (or at the very least make a lot of people outlaws). Furthermore...DroneZone...yeah right. Where are they? How many people have one close? Again, absurd. This whole exemption is an effort to appear to be appeasing while in fact, just restricting the recreational FPV pilot.
Yeah, no matter how a person wants to look at it, the faa is screwing the industry as well as the citizens. They would be tickled if they ended the hobby. The fact is, gov decided to start regulating when civilians flew one over a police baracade. They had a zone where they took citizens they were detaining during a protest. Cops let no civilians including press in that area. A journalist mounted a gopro on his friends quadcopter & flew it over to record police wrongdoings. The 2nd event was when a couple young men flew a drone over a large corporate hog farm. They filmed the farms illegally dumping waste into a waterway. It had absolutely nothing to do with safety. No personal drone had ever damaged a manned flight. If gov were concerned about our safety & well being , they woulda went after the hog farm with everything they had. They were more concerned with busting the drone operators vs the corporate hog farm that was contaminating the waterway. Gov used that propoganda & made up a narrative that peeps were flying drones to peep on women's privacy. It was all propoganda. They can't have citizens filming their dirty deeds. They reserve that right to do unto us. I'm all for drone safety & common sense rules. What the fda is doing is about control & power. Y'all can think what you want, idc if u disagree. Everyone has the right to be wrong.
Thank you for all the information , I’ve have a hiking channel and my next step is to add drone footage. I had no idea of how to but now I do. Thank you again 🙏
I Learned a lot from your free tutorial on the Mini 2, thanks. I have a question if you don't mind, regarding the Quickshots, is the speed fixed or does it also depend on the speed setting ie; n, c or s. Thanks
I am all for part 107 but people do photography and videography for fun as well, people take pictures with their cameras for the joy of capturing the moment. TRUST should be enough for these things.
2 Quick Questions: (1) I have my Part 107 License and also my TRUST Certificate. I have registered my drone as commercial under Part 107. Do I also need to register it under the recreational exemption if I want to use the recreational rules? (2) Under the recreational rules, is flight transiting over people and moving vehicles permitted, or do the same rules under Part 107 (with the 4 classes of drones, 3 of which do not yet exist) apply? Thanks for any information.
Thanks you so much for your extremely informative video. I am Canadian and plan to travel to the US later this year. I would like to bring my drones and capture images. I am fully licensed in Canada; however, I had no idea what the US requirements are for Drone use. I followed your video, registered my 2 drones and passed the TRUST exam this afternoon. I thought I might challenge myself to the Part 107 exam, but it's an expense that I probably don't need to incur since I won't be flying for commercial purposes.
Wow! Glad I came across this video! I've had my Small UAS Certificate of Registration since Oct 2019, but the Safety test it talked about has eluded me till I saw this! Thank you!!! I now have my TRUST Certificate from Pilot Institute. After watching, I scooted right over and registered for the test. Easy Peasy!!
Very informative video. Well done. I was checking when I need to renew my recreational certificate. I saw they now require my inventory. I fly fpv and built and rebuilt my fleet. It asks for the manufacturer and model. There's a ton of components in a build most from different manufacturers. Do I use the frame model and manufacturer? If I destroyed one can it be removed? Thanks. 🤓
This has been the single most helpful video for how to get started. I know I want to invest in a drone, and didn't want the "variables' to discourage me. I know I want to be in compliance and I also want to pilot my drone at longer distances, so I am committed to getting my Part 109 licence and applying for the waiver to take my drone out further. I think I will be taking the "guaranteed" training program you provide so I can learn everything I need for my Part 109 test. I don't think I will be creating a drone "business" but I do want to post videos on UA-cam for hobby/business so I want to have more privileges beyond flying for enjoyment. After all, why invest in a long range drone if I can't take it out of my yard?
@@flawdanative3223 Well, its what I THOUGHT, BEFORE taking the Part 107 course haha. I learned that those waivers are not given out easily - but I also learned that the new Remote ID technology might be a first step to eventually being able to fly BVLoS, but right now no one can do that legally.
@@RyanHipp any update on this? I imagine its a borderline requirement for drone pilots that inspect power line structures or crop fields as having to move all over with the drone kind of defeats the purpose.
Great video. But why did you not mention AMA as a CBO? And why did you not mention B4UFLY as an FAA app to tell you what restricted airspace is around you? Lastly, why didn't you define explicitly what a DRONE is? Most think it's does not include fixed wing and helicopters. That needs to be made clear.
None of it matters if the FAA doesn’t enforce these rules to begin with. If you call your local FAA office and speak to an officer, they will tell you that they are only interested in busting people near airports, not anyone flying commercially without a P107 certificate.
Basically this is true. The FAA doesn't have inspectors at every airport, with binoculars and video cameras as well as remote ID tracking equipment. Fly around an airport or in controlled airspace and things may be different. Just stay away from airports and you're pretty much free to do whatever.
Just buy the new mini 3 from DJI and don't get paid and you don't need a license. If you're getting paid, get your 107, otherwise, no point. The new software will also tell you youre in controlled airspace.
@@ronaldthomas9396 to bad it hasnt stayed that way. intead of a king we now have a corrupt money hungry group of morons ruining the main reason we fought to stay out from under a corrupt king...😉
Great video. Thank you for the great information. Will be enrolling in your Part 107 Made Easy class and prep for the FAA test. After I'm done and school lets out for summer, I'm going to enroll my 14 y/o son. Looking forward to the education.
I have one drone over 250g which i have registered with FAA. I am subscribed to your channel and watch all of your videos. TY for sharing. I just received my TRUST Certificate from Pilot Institute. TY for all you guys do at pilot institute. When i need my part 107 i will come to pilot institute to get it. Thanks again friends
There are more regulations concerning drones than flying a glider. I think its about discouraging the hobbiest, in favor of automated drones which Amazon and sone courier companies are trying. It's all about clearing the hobbiest out and protecting and giving that 400 ft zone to commercial drones only
Your part right. It's all about control. I'm not a cut / paster & don't want to type out (again)the 2 events that made gov want to control the hobby. It's already a couple places in these comments. They want to reserve the right to record us, they don't want us to be able to record them or corporations. It's refreshing to see others seeing through the bs.
@@TicTac-g7m Nope. You're in what they call denial. That or you're naive. You're almost borderline commenting in a way that could get you labeled a "boot deepthroater" (Just saying) If you think gov gives a hoot about your safety, turn off msm & take a look around, maybe study history. Why wouldn't your country provide it's citizens with Healthcare during a pandemic? Yeah, they'll beat you up, lock you away, and even shoot you down all in the name of "keeping you safe"
They will soon be a thing of the past. Drone sales are dropping due to tougher and tougher regulations and about to get tougher. This is and will put people off drones, hense DJI looking towards robots as a means to keep going when drones drop off.
My understanding concerning congressional authority does not include private property (non-commercial, non-privileged property) without express consent of owner. Commercial is defined as used for profit or gain and profit or gain is defined in Title 26 to the effect of being the residual of 'income' after all expenses are deducted.
Thanks for the information in this video. I purchased two different "beginner" drones over the past year. Just wanted to have some fun...but, after seeing this video and considering that I live less than 2 miles from a Major International Airport....(my home is two streets from the secondary flight path) There's no place to fly or practice how to fly my drones. What I've learned today has instructed me to Leave them in the box and tell people about the "BIG FISH" I caught...that broke my line and got away !!! 🤥 Thanks again.
FAA needs to quit criminalizing FPV. For drones, it's safer to fly FPV than it is LOS. Because LOS doesn't let you know which way the drone will go - like it does for an airplane - which has a profile that changes as the plane rotates in the air. Rotate a drone LOS - and you learn nothing. IOW - flying a drone LOS, defeats rule #9 - always fly safely.
Good luck convincing your local police officers that you're well within the legal right to fly... lol. Very informative video though, didn't realize so much has changed the last few years.
Thank you! I have been flying my spark for years but just decided to purchase a mini 3 pro, Then i find all these new laws but thankfully now i know im covered and know how to follow the laws!
No it's not. Airspace is a very controlled thing and drones can very easily invade people's privacy or spy on people or situations that might be related to national security, LE, politics or the military. If you get a drone under 250g, all you have to do is take the simple trust exam and that's it. It's the easiest thing to do and you do it I've and you're done and can now fly your drone anywhere that's not near a military installation, airport, national security locations, major sports games, etc. But most any park, conservation, mountain, lake, most scenic areas are fine for flying your drone. And if you get a drone that doesn't have geofencing, basically anything except a DJI drone, and you can fly it anywhere you want, you just take a risk by not following the rules and regulations, but it's unlikely anyone is going to bother you flying a small drone as long as you're not bothering anymore or doing it where you're not supposed to be flying
Really? What's next, you're not going to abide by those "police state" requirements to do things like, you know, register your car or, um, get a driver's licence before operating it? None of this would be necessary if it hadn't been for all the a_$h_le quad operators having done st_pid $_it like flying through the glide slope of aircraft in the process of landing at airports, or flying within FEET of police and traffic helicopters thus, literally, coming within FEET of bringing them down due to prop strikes, etc. Do you have even the vaguest idea what kind of damage can ensue by a two-pound quad impacting the windshield of a small aircraft coming in on Final at 85 kts? I fly quads and, guess what, I'm also a Private Pilot (MER/IFR/CFI); and I fly an SR22 (Google it). The last thing I need (or that anyone else needs for that matter) when flying my wife and two young daughters is some a_zh_le who doesn't give a $_it about anyone else who thinks he can do whatever the phuque he wants when the lives of my family and those of other people are therefore at risk. Sadly, it is *precisely* because of people like you that this has *necessarily* come about. As I indicated, I too fly quads but I am absolutely all for these requirements; they weed out at least some of the folks who have no business being anywhere near RC aircraft.
Someone in the comments below had a perfect analogy that deserves to be repeated: "The FAA regulating drones is like the DMV regulating RC cars" . Totally unnecessary and ridiculous in my opinion.
This video has been UPDATED: ua-cam.com/video/UZfZWETPYAc/v-deo.html

Me too!
I took his course and passed my exam. He is very knowledgeable with the regulations , airspace etc .
What website u used
I fly for fun, have had drones from the beginning. but getting afraid to fly because of all the rules, that seem to keep changing.
Luckily I decided to see this suggested video on UA-cam. I just registered my drone, and got the TRUST exam certificate. Thank you very much.

Finally someone who explained this all in layman terms. Great explanation and thank you for doing this. You just got a new subscriber.
Yeah that's what they wanted to have happen.
Hey, I was injured last year and am now looking into drone piloting as a business. How profitable is it, and what's the area like you work out of?
This was valuable information for sure. I was not aware of the TRUST exam until today. I took the free offered program and passed.
It did take the full 30 minutes as described. I subscribed and clicked the bell so I can keep up to date on any new regulations. Thanks.

Just got my first drone. I appreciate this video, thank you so much for explaining the rules to where they are easy to understand and follow.
Even though I'm licensed, I'm hitting more and more geofences and lock-out by DJI and the FAA. It's getting to the point where its not worth jumping through all the hoops. Especially if you get locked out on a paid gig.

@@southofheaven2928 that's like buying a Ferrari and putting a Mazda ignition in it.
Don’t buy DJI
Try another drone maker. DJI does that probably for PR reasons with the government, since they don't like Chinese drones. Although lots of drones are made in China, they don't all have geofencing.
Good thing i watched this video before i got into this hobby. Thank you for saving me the time and money

I'm just getting started as drone pilot and need all the information to be able to get started. Thank you.
@The Oracle so we punish people who haven't or won't do anything wrong? You must have a low oxygen count.
@@memyname1771 exactly. I definitely find it unnecessary to have such a limitation on drones.

(Mini 2)
I’ve been researching this and NO, if your drone weighs 250 or less you do not have to register with the FAA.

Thank you Greg for your awesome class. As I posted today on your class, I got an 80% today on my exam. This test is no joke. Most of my questions were on airspace and sectional charts.

So happy I found this channel. I am travelling to US this summer, and it looks so easy to fly there.
Hi Maria, keep your DJI. You can use it as a civilian. Only government agencies can't use them.
@@PilotInstitute Thanks Greg! Much appreciated.

Thank you!!
Thank you sir. Excellent info! I got both to make sure I am covered.
Very good video!!! We need to get this knowledge to every corner of the drone community!!!
Thanks Greg. Awesome and well explained video. So many people in so many forums need to hear this!!!
There is a continued scam concerning registration of drones - receiving stickers and registration for drones
Yes there is and it's important to let everybody know to avoid it!
The whole thing is a SCAM. Drones are harmless. It's like registering to pilot a kite. The whole point is to scare as many people away from drones as possible. Meanwhile, while the US ignorantly buries their head in the sand, China is making more and more crazy advanced drones that we can't even touch.
I have to say if F##k their over regulating rules I will fly when and where I want to... I live FREE not enslaved!

This whole exemption is an effort to appear to be appeasing while in fact, just restricting the recreational FPV pilot.
i am one of those outlaws...FVCK THE FFA
Boot lickers are part of the problem. If they support tyranny, it'd be nice if they just moved .
Rules are not law
A few stupid people did dangerous things and corporations want control and money. That excludes recreational flying- sucks.
Thank you for all the information , I’ve have a hiking channel and my next step is to add drone footage. I had no idea of how to but now I do. Thank you again 🙏

Thanks. 🤓
There's an option for Home Built in there.
@@PilotInstitute yes. And it asks for the manufacturer and model. I just put home built for both. And for serial number I checked not applicable box.
When you say recreational certificate are you referring to the trust test certificate?
@@desertblbuesman I should have said recreational registration. Sorry for the confusion.
Are you saying that if you get the correct license you can fly beyond the 'Line of Sight' rule?
@@flawdanative3223 Well, its what I THOUGHT, BEFORE taking the Part 107 course haha. I learned that those waivers are not given out easily - but I also learned that the new Remote ID technology might be a first step to eventually being able to fly BVLoS, but right now no one can do that legally.
@@RyanHipp any update on this? I imagine its a borderline requirement for drone pilots that inspect power line structures or crop fields as having to move all over with the drone kind of defeats the purpose.
Very informative video! Thanks for educating the public on these new rules and regulations. Keep'em coming...
More great info!! Thank you for sharing! -Love that Pilot Institute supports Fly w Owen & JR Aviation channels!
Great video- however I'm a bit confused. Title says 2023, but was released 2 years ago?
Rules are still applicable in 2023.
Thanks a bunch!
Helping me and my family understand the crazy complications, as always 😀
I took my trust exam with you guys it was easy and it’s the what he says you can’t fail
Thank you for such a great video. I am buying my first drone and needed this to lawfully fly it. I am now a subscriber.
Scary! @@chipsawdust5816
Just buy the new mini 3 from DJI and don't get paid and you don't need a license. If you're getting paid, get your 107, otherwise, no point. The new software will also tell you youre in controlled airspace.
You cant fly in the Kings sky without permission and payment.
We here in the USA had a problem with your king years ago!

Great video. Thank you for the great information. Will be enrolling in your Part 107 Made Easy class and prep for the FAA test. After I'm done and school lets out for summer, I'm going to enroll my 14 y/o son. Looking forward to the education.
BTW, getting the DJI Avata 2 delivered today.
If you don't have TRUST, you don't meet all 8 requirements since one of them is to have TRUST. IT's free,. takes 30 minutes or less, you've got this!
Good stuff here Greg. I’m sharing this with my UTube friends who have drones.
There are more regulations concerning drones than flying a glider. I think its about discouraging the hobbiest, in favor of automated drones which Amazon and sone courier companies are trying. It's all about clearing the hobbiest out and protecting and giving that 400 ft zone to commercial drones only
You said it right.
Nope. That's classical paranoid, narcissistic thinking.
@@TicTac-g7m
Nope.
You're in what they call denial. That or you're naive.
You're almost borderline commenting in a way that could get you labeled a "boot deepthroater"
(Just saying)
If you think gov gives a hoot about your safety, turn off msm & take a look around, maybe study history.
Why wouldn't your country provide it's citizens with Healthcare during a pandemic?
Yeah, they'll beat you up, lock you away, and even shoot you down all in the name of "keeping you safe"
@@TicTac-g7m Fool.
They will soon be a thing of the past. Drone sales are dropping due to tougher and tougher regulations and about to get tougher. This is and will put people off drones, hense DJI looking towards robots as a means to keep going when drones drop off.
They don't care.
Gov/ faa just assume citizens not have the ability to record their dirty deeds from above.
Drone sales are through the roof. Companies can't make them or the accessories fast enough.
What? LOS allows you to know what is around your drone....for miles in every direction. You don't get that with FPV.
and also...how are they criminalizing it? You can still do it, you just need to have a friend nearby to maintain LOS.
@@dannobles8028 LOS means you cannot tell which direction yer drone will go. With FPV you always know where your drone will go next.
@@dannobles8028 BVLOS is illegal. And you cannot do it by yourself.
Good luck convincing your local police officers that you're well within the legal right to fly... lol. Very informative video though, didn't realize so much has changed the last few years.
Just know the rules better than they do.
Rule number one: plug in battery. Rule number two: fly drone. Rule number three: Rinse/Repeat.
Thank you! I have been flying my spark for years but just decided to purchase a mini 3 pro, Then i find all these new laws but thankfully now i know im covered and know how to follow the laws!
Hello there!. Can you please wirte the link for test here . I Love to learning more about Row's. Thank you very so much.
Best regards from Norway.
"use your brain, use your common sense..."
Oh, only if it was that easy. 🙄
hahaha
Common sense is not common.
Oh good lord yeah. If only more people had/used common sense we would not be dealing with all these rules and regulations now.
I was considering buying a drone until I found all the police state rules. Its absolutely absurd to allow theses types of laws to exist.
@@jamesw657 you also can’t fly drones at national parks unfort, which is annoying cause that’s where the best scenery is
You should see ATF regulations even more confusing
@@klyesam4006 The whole system prevents citizens from enjoying their life.
Someone in the comments below had a perfect analogy that deserves to be repeated: "The FAA regulating drones is like the DMV regulating RC cars" . Totally unnecessary and ridiculous in my opinion.
