9:30 The reason why the drone starts slow when in POI is that it is measuring the distance between itself and the selected target - that way it can know how big of a circle it has to do.
Billy, whenever I want to learn something new about drones, I learn from your videos. Your explanations and videos are the best! Thank you very much!
The beauty of these features are that live on top of the main interface, you don't have to go digging through menu's to find them. Great tutorial, showing how simple these features are to activate and use in real world scenarios.
Thanks for simplifying this stuff Billy. Well done! I am 70 years old in all your videos have been so helpful to me. what’s with the ads? lol…I’m happy there are because this means that you are attracting a larger and larger audience and sponsors have noticed…When you had fewer subscribers I told you that if you keep up the great work, they will come. Well, you did and they did! Good job.
got mine today, I am blown away with the automations it has...perfect for pro work in my opinion, i only wish it had side sensors that would make it an absolute machine and pro 3 killer as well
I really enjoyed this tutorial from start to finish. I don't know how you do it keeping all your thoughts straight and the oratory moving so quickly. You are a great speaker and your tutorial rocked! Thank you!
2 years later, and I am just beginning with the air 2s. Love it but have had questions regarding the automated controls. You explained it very well and was successful at using them. Crashed once because of user error when using POI because of my altitude and no side obstacle avoidance. Great lesson.
Someone in one of the many FB groups asked, "How do I set up Activ track/follow me with the air 2S?" Of COURSE I shared this video to them. The Master.
Very informative. I like the chapters made it very easy to replay what I didn’t understand I wish more people did it that way with their information. Keep up the good jobs
Just bought Air 2S and upgrading from my 6 years old Phantom 3 Pro.... My God, what a change - it's like leaving a Bus and jumping into Ferrari. Until today I had to fly manual only with no sensors and now all this :-) Amazing feeling.
POI is more powerful than you give it credit for. You can have it circle a subject that is moving. I've had some really good results going around a sailboat that's going upwind. The speed needs to be high enough that it will make it around the front, and you need to have safe space around since it's going sideways most of the time.
I used, POI and it crashed with leaves of tree? Luckily wasn't too high and nothing major damage done, just one propeller damaged. So my question is that it's protection system don't work in this POI mode or is it ways off when flying sideways
I agree with you about the loss of previously and available flight modes, some of which were quite useful. I’d also like to see spotlight mode (and others) added in a firmware upgrade to the M2P, unsure whether it’s possible or just not a priority until the next Mavic Pro is released. The lack of side sensors has been my biggest gripe and has been the cause of at least a few crashes from the random super tall tree in my path during a POI or spotlight.
Rant is spot on. I just bought the 2s coming from the original Mavic. So far, I’m more disappointed in it than impressed. These things you covered are some of the reasons why. Thanks for your content!
I still have my original Mavic Pro too and can honestly say it is one of the best drones I have ever owned. It is in my go to drone that still captures some amazing photos and video clips and I don't have to worry so much about losing it or crashing it based on the current value.
Don't forget that POI also tracks. So if you select a person or vehicle it will track and move as it rotates around the person. My personal favorite setting.
Great way of explaining these modes, and breaking them down. Thank you! I was trying to figure out how to even initiate them. I knew it was just something simple that was totally kicking my ass but could not figure it out. I was missing the first step: Draw the box. i was thinking I had to put the drone in a certain mode first.
tour rant was right on the money. To this day, I have yet to see a flight app that was aa powerful and feature-rich as Autopilot by Autoflight Logic. 🤓 It’s pretty old now (about nine years!) but it did everything! You could even orbit and track another drone as it was tracking a moving subject! You could set up waypoint flights that had action “triggers” you could set at each waypoint.. change altitude, speed, even POI along a waypoint route… pretty amazing. I bought my Phantom 3 pro and my iPad in order to specifically run that app. 🤓😎
Great explanation of the smart modes of the Mavic Air 2s. It has been awhile since I watched one of your video clips Billy......looks like you have been getting successful with all the clicks. We see you are driving a new Tesla and the production quality gear must have cost you some $$!
Recently received my Air 2S & practiced some over the weekend with it. Yeah, what they have programmed in it works 'amazingly' well, but having more than 3 Modes would be nice especially if they were in earlier models.
Although I know the modes, I still look to have fun with you. Have a great rest of the week, here in Germany it rains all the time. I hope you enjoy the America's summer weather. Cheers 👋🏻
I prefer the old POI functionality because a lot of times there’s not actually a selectable subject that I want to orbit or it’s night time and I just want to orbit something like a firework show - there’s not a single point that I can select
Great explanations on everthing. I did try the active track in densely wooded hiking trail to follow me in trace mode. The Air 2S gets confused sometimes, and its not consistent on its response to the detected obstacles. At the moment I can't rely on it to do it all by itself safely. I guess I have to conduct more trials to get more comfortable with it. Thanks
OMG!!! it took me a while to figure out how to get the active track to work, you have to use 4K 30 or lower. would have been nice if you mention that it on your video or maybe you should make a video on it..
Mini 2, but remember no sensors and way less features, but if you want something cheap that flies good, there is no way around the mini 2. I still have it even though I am fully licensed and have way more expensive drones in my collection.
Got my AIR 2S on 6th Nov 2022. Awesome drone. Only thing is that active track are any of the intelligent features like Quick shots or Master shots do not work at any higher fps than just 30fps. A big disappoint if you want to shoot yourself running in slow-mo or horse riding on the beach. For such slow mo shots someone has to manually fly the drone. That's the onky downside. Otherwise it is built like a tank.
Hi Billy I have been following you for the past few years and like all our advise and recomedstions. You do a really professional quality videos and presentations. Having said that I did buy a Air 2S last week and did paid for the tutorila at the "moments website". I think you wend over things too fast and you forgot to mention the DJI filters and you really did not spend good amount of time on the gimble seting like I did not know that t can go up to 14 degree and to see other guys talk about it. The phonr charging obtion does not exist on mine is that somthing DJI removed?. Do you think adjustable Polar Pro ND filters are needed or DJI filters are good to go? Thanks.
1) where do you hide the mic you are using ? 2) most importantly: what mode do you recommend to film someone on a bike from the front with the drone going backwards?
This video is intended as instructional and more than likely the people watching it, such as myself, are not familiar with the screens etc. so a couple of things. #1 Slow down your speaking speed, do not try to cram 20 minutes of words into 10. #2, Again, unfamiliarity. When you just tell people about an icon or a location on the screen we have to first find it and by then you are talking about something else. A pointer, etc. indicating what is being mentioned helps the viewer to see the subject and keep up with fast talking. I am 80, a licensed Private Pilot and just recently grounded myself so am now taking up flying drones and need to learn about the equipment. I cannot process words as fast as a 15 year old who is used to speaking speeds that were unheard of in days gone by,. After watching the video and start/stop/rewind I did come away with a better understanding of features
I just purchased the air 2s. I am mostly impressed but it just came so close to being perfect. All it needs is side sensors for a full 360 degree active track flight. I have to be super careful that it won’t fly sideways in a tree. They could have at least disabled sideways flight on active track because the lack of side sensors but they didn’t. Seriously disappointing considering how close it comes to becoming perfect. I’m returning it and hoping when I repurchase the air 3 it will have sensors on all sides.
Definitely nice features, what really disappointed me and what nobody covered, at least from bigger channels is how limited 4K60 is. Not only it is cropped but the quality is for some reason junk and compression rate in unacceptable. So the fact that they advertised 4K60 imo is misleading their customers.
@@billykyle well, 30FPS regardless of resolution is pretty choppy and poor especially considering we are shooting from drones. I am not sure what they did to bitrate and compression on 60FPS, but its unusable in 4K.
Can you save the POI to say repeat the flight at a later time? Be nice for some transitional type stuff like a day to night or something. Thanks nice vid man
Gj for video. I don't like a spotlight on air2s, because it is just orbiting around the object. On all older drones, in the spotlight, you can move linearly (like in focus mode in Litchi litchi), on the ph4p you even have course lock lines on the map. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't see the difference between orbit and spotlight on air2s.
Thank you for the video! I just got an Air 2s and this information is exactly what I was looking for! I just hit the subscribe button and plan to visit you for more information in the future.
very informative. When using Active Track to video myself mountain biking, one challenge i have is it will swap me as the subject for another mountain biker if i pass them or they pass me... The examples you show, you're the only one on a board in the parking lot or the only moving car in the parking lot... have you done much playing around with more similar moving subjects? like you and 4 of your friends all on boards riding around each other? is the Air 2s more capable of distinguishing one subject from another? Thanks for the great info... i can see you put good time into this!
I recently purchased the Air 2S. I cannot get the intelligent modes to show up. I’m in video mode, I leave everything on auto. But I can’t figure out how to do the green box, be it a person, car or house. I want to figure out how to utilize Spotlight and POI.
You didn't mention obstacle avoidance using the different modes. Also, can Litchi be used with the Air 2S? I haven't tried it yet on mine, but I think Litchi had more options for autonomous control.
I’m curious what everyone thinks of the controller? To be honest that is my only reservation with purchasing this drone. I currently have the original Mavic Pro an absolutely love the controller especially the fact that the shutter speed it is on a wheel to make it really fast and convenient. I understand the Mavic air does not have the shutter wheel adjustment. What’s your thoughts on that?
Hi! Great video; do you have any idea why when I highlight the box with a person in it, then tap on Activetrack, the DJI go app says “cannot enter active track mode”?
9:30 The reason why the drone starts slow when in POI is that it is measuring the distance between itself and the selected target - that way it can know how big of a circle it has to do.
I was thinking the same when I saw it.
Billy, I’ve watched so many videos on “how to” with ActiveTrack, but yours is hands down the best.
Billy, whenever I want to learn something new about drones, I learn from your videos. Your explanations and videos are the best! Thank you very much!

I like your fast talking explanation. No wasted time. Good instructional, thanks.
I've had my air 2s for a few months now and absolutely love it this video will definitely help me get better

I had no idea you could track a moving subject in POI 😯
Plus you can still control the drone’s altitude and gimbal while it’s doing it’s thing. Makes for some dynamic moves.
So in this case what’s the difference between POI and Spotlight? They both sound the same to me.
@@TheAzn18 Spotlight stays still, poi goes in circle haha
I used, POI and it crashed with leaves of tree? Luckily wasn't too high and nothing major damage done, just one propeller damaged. So my question is that it's protection system don't work in this POI mode or is it ways off when flying sideways

Totally agree with needing Follow Me mode. Seems like a no-brainer and big oversight to ax that one.
Mate, I really appreciate your review on these flight modes. I just upgraded from 1st Gen Mavic Pro and I cant believe what this little thing can do.

Wonderful review!!! I wish I could like this 100 times over!
This video is awesome, thanks for sharing as always. Very well put together.
Thanks Billy... whenever I have a question you are my go to... there is so much crap on youtube...

Fantastic video, very helpful!
Agree with the rant, GPS follow was better in most ways. Probably they want to train visual tracking for other uses...
Another great video Billy! Thank you!
Great info Billy can’t wait to try these features
U should put a big dji logo on the roof of your car , to help the drone track it in spotlight . Lol
Wow, incredibly useful. Thanks for making the video and a very articulate output! I’m subscribed…
Glad to help!
Excellent review. Thank you! 🤙
