@Long Johnson yeah, 60 o 70 meters, they can see you in the radar, even if you live in the country side! My little one, doesn't have any registration...they can not doing nothing! Unless you flying in the route of small aeroplanes, helicopters, etc.
I have just learned it yesterday, but the quickest way to stop your mini 2 is the return to home button pressed once, really quick. That will stop the drone and hover it in place.
Regarding flying backwards. I was advised instead to fly forwards for the equivalent distance/perspective and then reverse the footage afterwards. Thank you for sharing this advice and fair play to you for being willing to share your 'rookie' mistake. Take care.
flying backwards doesn't affect me much as long i can see what's in front and the drone moving away from me if there's something to hit or crash, I don't think this is an issue because if you fly your drone you fly as a pilot so you're a total idiot if you know there's an obstacle in front of you where the drone will hit but you still fly backwards? lols
RTH update fun. I was chatting to a guy who did the round the world yacht race. The boats are doing 30/40 knots a cross the Atlantic. The official race videographer had the drone up taking some awesome footage when his controller pings up a return to home warning. The drone disappears over the horizon back to where it was launched 25 minutes (and about 13 miles) away, to land itself somewhere in the ocean.
@@DannyTillotson when battery is low it defaults to this. You can override by clicking X, but then soon after it will simply start descending to the ground wherever it is. I nearly lost my drone in a field today this way, but quickly zoomed the drone back my direction by looking at the map, my location, my drone, and the way it was pointing. Just barely made it back to me!
Re emergency stop ,on my mini 2 se a single tap on the RTH button stops it pretty much dead in it's tracks .I assumed it worked for all the other models with the standard OcuSync controller or better .
I recently flew too far away and lost signal. Thankfully my drone went straight into RTH mode, and after 10-15 seconds I started getting the imagery back on my phone whilst it was returning, then once I knew where I was I turned RTH off and landed it back where I was manually. I was a bit scared there for a moment! Modern drones are amazing but, still be cautious, particularly if you're beginning!
This video is really helpful, as a new pilot I was flying my DJI Mavic Mini Pro 3, and I lost site of it, and it wasn't a good feeling, as I panicked and hit RTH, then I finally could see it. Even with the map, I was just freaked out about not seeing it. So great advice and I need to really follow that one. LOL! Thanks for this.
Wop! Saying “loosing a propeller would be catastrophic” depends. My mavic 2 lost a propeller mid flight. And it adjusted itself to only having 3 propellers, as well as notifying me that either it lost a propeller or one of the motors were damaged. It landed safely with 3 propellers.
Great advice. I would like to add that if you need to change your props on the Mini2 then to ensure the screws do not loosen, is to add a tiny drop of loctite/threadlock to each thread.
IIRC The prop kits that DJI includes also includes new screws with pre-applied threadlock. So as long as you always use the new screws included, you don’t need to add additional threadlock.
Great tips Matthew I only wish I had watched before my second flight in Scotland where I lost my brand new DJI mini 2 in the sea due to inexperience , wind speed changing and battery draining down all happening in a few moments! I never retrieved it 😢
Thanks for the video. I am soon to be a beginning drone student and you have given me many good ideas on how to keep my drone and have it to fly the next time. Thanks again.

Matt, regarding updating your RTH position and your experience on the one lane road, could you have not just made a stick input which would cancel the RTH, and then updated RTH to your present position? Thanks, Bo
Fantastic tips thank you for sharing. Very helpful. I will be purchasing a DJI mini 2 shortly and these tips have been excellent. Can i just ask, do i have to register it as i was told it needs to have a sticker on it. Thank very much.
Regarding screwed-in propellers, would it be alright to use something like Loctite threadlockers? This newbie learned a lesson a few days ago. Flying my new DJI Mini 3 Pro (on my 2nd day of getting it), I was flying over a pond behind my house at dusk. As I brought it closer to the bank, it made contact with some leafy trees, hit the leaves, then plummeted into the water, right next to the bank. Like operating any potentially dangerous machine...always be in control. Just remember the fancy built in quickShot modes take control out of your hands. If you can manually manage a dronie, helix etc it's better to avoid potential hazards.
😂. Your “Return to Home” story is absolute gold. Thanks for the video. Made a lot of great points and gave me a lot to think about as a fairly “green” drone enthusiast.
Annoyingly there isn't really any great competition from any other big company, only really small Chinese companies that are both difficult to buy from and difficult to get support for.
Thankyou, getting my first drone tomorrow. I always listen to experience, the point being experience as what you are telling me is what you have experienced and what cost a lot of money and pride is being passed on. Hopefully one day ill pass on my experience. Thanks.
Regarding strength and crashes, FOR ALL DRONES. We need weaker springs in the legs. This will mean in the impact of a crash; the springs flex absorbing the initial impact instead of putting all the impact through the legs. Currently, the springs are stronger than the plastic legs, which means that the legs break before the spring moves. It would also be great if, in an accident, the drone could fly on three motors.
Many thanks for your superb video! I have been flying "toy" drones for a couple of years, upgraded to an MX911, and awaiting delivery of an FPV system. I did take the U.S.A. recreational testing and received my Pilot certification. I have the certificates in all of my drone bags, travel boxes, and also in my car glovebox. Also, pilots need to have an app on their cell to check for "safe flying/not restricted" air space. DO NOT fly over people. Do not fly over beaches. ALWAYS have a spotter. Be careful in campgrounds...Do not fly a drone without prop guards amongst people (will save your props anyway!). Always trim/spin/check controls...calibrate your drone. Don't fly in windy weather unless your machine is robust! Know the Front and Rear lights on your drone... When it comes to battery stress testing, make sure you're in a safe location. I was in the smokey mountains with this beautiful lake and sent my drone out 2 miles. Got beautiful footage, then I flew back at the recommended timing the drone gave me, only I noticed the battery percentage was going down fast. Very fast. Sure enough I was still another quarter mile away from RTH, and there were only woods. Hey man can u dm I have questions about my drone, when I hit the record button the screen freezes until I'm done recording. When I go to play back what I recorded on my phone, the screen is just black. When I put the sd card in my laptop the video plays correctly.
Hi Matthew. I hope you or someone else will be able to answer my question! I am working towards monetising my drone UA-cam channel, but is there anything that I need to obtain like an extra licence in order to be able to upload drone footage and monetise it?
Hello Matthew I have not had a drone before and I am thinking of buying the DJI mini 2, do you think it would be better to wait for the release of the DJI mini 3 Great channel ,really good videos John
I just got a DJI mini 3 and have been watching all your videos! I really appreciate you sharing all of your info! Good luck with everything my new friend!
This is an excellent video. How about calibration and RTH setting. I have air2s and still new to it, learning. I have not been calibrating in new locations and it seems to work fine. I am not sure how to find out if calibration is essential for the location, before I fly...can you please help? Also RTH setting. Sometimes DJI Fly app says RTH position registered, but sometimes I don't get it. Once I launched without it and I was struggling to get it back home. Can you please share the steps what I need to do for RTH registration before I launch, and how to find out if Calibration is necessary. Thanks and appreciate it.

Thanks for enlightening me on the rules.
Hi Matthew, my name is Todd I was wondering what app you used to buy filters for the mini pro at three? And your videos are very educational for me anyway I’ve learned quite a bit. Thanks. Matthew have a great holiday and a happy new year👍🤙✌️
Id like to see dji introducte return to operator instead of or as well as return to home It won't be a difficult program to install where the drone returns to the gps location of the controller
Hey Mattheww i have a mini 2 and just bought the mini 3 what do i do abot registering a second drone do i just add this to the registration or do i need to sit the test again i cannot find much info on registering a second drone any advice would be appreciated thanks colin.
Hey, sorry just realized UA-cam posted a reply to another comment under this. Oops. You just stick the same operator ID on the side of the drone, no need to sit the test again.
Another tip is when flying at the beach, the drone can get attacked by Seagulls. Some people try manoeuvring left and right trying to dodge them but the answer is to go straight up high then fly away as fast as you can. Seagulls are unable to fly vertical and can only gain height slowly. Seagulls can and will knock your drone out of the sky.
I had a red tails hawk go after mine. I was getting proximity notifications at 200ft in the air. I spun it around to video it. I could see it from the ground but could never get the camera on it.
Matt , Thank you for all the amazing and informative videos. My kids bought me a DJI mini 2 kit for the holidays and you made flying it and making videos so much easier. I absolutely love it. I have one simple question, How do you get all the flight data , height, distance and speed onto the videos your making? I would love showing my family how far I went and how high. Thank you so much again for all your work.
Hey! If you turn on "Video Subtitles" in the drone's camera settings this information will be available as a subtitle track over your videos - hope that helps!
I would also add to start (when possible) flying against the wind and then return home downwind. This way you make sure you have enough battery to safely get back to the starting point.
Good point. Us scuba divers do that too. Spend your energy (and air) swimming into the current so when you turn around you have the current helping you home.
It's amazing how different people can pronounce vowels and still be speaking English. Great Brittain has dozens of dialects and here in America we have probably a dozen distinct dialects as well. Don't even get me started on the Aussies. And then there is whatever Ozzie Osbourne speaks. It's bloody amazing we understand each other.
Great video. I am a new drone owner - since early September. I have already made a big mistake of trying to catch my drone whilst trying to hand land. Your video will no doubt prevent me from further screwing up. Thanks 👍

Pro tip, you can get those same cool “backwards flying shots” by flying forward and just reversing the video in post.
Yeah, but if there are people or things moving in the video they'd be moving in reverse
That would have to be a very specific setup.

Hey Mattheww i have a mini 2 and just bought the mini 3 what do i do abot registering a second drone do i just add this to the registration or do i need to sit the test again i cannot find much info on registering a second drone any advice would be appreciated thanks colin.
Same registration number.
Hey, sorry just realized UA-cam posted a reply to another comment under this. Oops. You just stick the same operator ID on the side of the drone, no need to sit the test again.
thanks for your info i just got my dji mini 2 today.... my first drone
Awesome tips. Thanks, and greetings from Panama
Very informative, thank you.
"overshoot" ...I heard it as "over sh#t" 😅
Oh no! Definitely not what I meant! haha! Thanks for watching.
Same
Another tip is when flying at the beach, the drone can get attacked by Seagulls.
Happened to me too, very scary moment
I love this man’s accenr
The first time I filed my drone a little bit far, I got really really nervous. I’m scared I’m going to make some of these mistakes
Good content btw … 👏👏
Thanks for sharing mate
I would also add to start (when possible) flying against the wind and then return home downwind. This way you make sure you have enough battery to safely get back to the starting point.
Good point. Us scuba divers do that too. Spend your energy (and air) swimming into the current so when you turn around you have the current helping you home.
Sound advise !! Cheers 🍻
Have fun flying! Thanks for watching.
Hi there kinda stupid question but if you choose RC to be RTH point and drone looses signal how is it going to find it? Thanks!
Via satellites
It's amazing how different people can pronounce vowels and still be speaking English. Great Brittain has dozens of dialects and here in America we have probably a dozen distinct dialects as well. Don't even get me started on the Aussies. And then there is whatever Ozzie Osbourne speaks. It's bloody amazing we understand each other.
Northern Irish can be particularly difficult for some people to understand going by my comments! ha. Thanks for watching.
This video was actually really engaging and well made. I was hooked the whole time and enjoyed the VERY USEFUL tips :)
I really appreciate such nice feedback. Thank you. Hope the tips help!
@@TheDroneCreative they most certainly will Matthew. Honestly was not expecting a reply so this is an added bonus to your video 😊 ur the best 😉
Wait in line of sight?! How good is you sight if you can see the mini2 at 120m?
Its all nonsense. Its invisible at 120 metres away from you.
4 years in drone operating but still a beginner... tq
Thanks it was a helpful video
@UCbNGkrsHEHBHqIiqvEOkk1Q Thanks a lot I texted you already on telegram
Thanks for the tips. Great to know as a beginner. Also, Where is the footage taken from @ 12:40 What a beautiful location!
Thanks! Dunluce Castle in Northern Ireland.
always great content, helpful and to-the-point. thank you.
Great video. I am a new drone owner - since early September. I have already made a big mistake of trying to catch my drone whilst trying to hand land. Your video will no doubt prevent me from further screwing up. Thanks 👍
I am busy getting one, So, I guess I will never try to "HAND LAND". Thanks.
Hey, great tips, thank you!
