      sadly, it happens in every community, buy it is systemic in religious communities where the balance of power is shifted to have men in ultimate authority. when women and children count less they are prey, not only to those who attack them but also to the system that devalues them and protects men and the hierarchy of the system itself.

    I'm extremely disappointed that the makers of this movie did not accurately portray these events. The men of this community this happened to banded together the minute they learned of the attacks. One of them staked out a guy they thought might be involved. He caught him breaking into a place and apprehended him himself. He got a posse and roughed him up to get the names of the other guys out of him. All with zero help from police. And there were women who were covering up for the guys who were guilty of this.
    Their moral strength and duty to their community is what allowed them to put an end to this, and it looks like the makers of this movie did them a great injustice, by portraying them as somehow guilty of covering up these crimes. It was exactly the opposite.

    • @reecejennings9637
      @reecejennings9637 6 місяців тому +4

      If it helps, it opens up a discussion in the first half about how men can be victims in simply being men. It raises the argument that being a man unfairly makes some guilty by association, but also raises the fair counterpoint that having the power to stop it before stopping it makes them as guilty as it does innocent. The film knows people wanna argue these cases, and it tries to adjust them. Nevertheless, the film's allegiance and support is always with (appropiately) the abused women

      Just an observation. But it's interesting that many of these angry men are victims of abuse themselves but they feel contempt for displays of vulnerability, a display that would help them too sometime if they dare open up. Abuse on the hands of other men. Very often also psychological abuse from women too. Episodes of complete lack of boundaries and respect in their development as independent human beings. This breeds contempt. And then it reaches the public as a generalized hatred for women and womens liberation because they personally have more experience with us being the oppressor. This does not excuse their actions.

      I loved the character of August so much. Ben was incredible. I think it was interesting and thoughtful to show a man’s pain from a destructive patriarchy. The two women he loved suffered so much and he felt so responsible and powerless. He just wanted to help to make it right any way he could despite the fact that he had nothing to do with it. I think that was genius to show how a man deals with knowing someone he loved was hurt and he couldn’t stop it or protect them.

How many times I've seen a man get a verbal beat down after saying "I know how you feel" I lost count and I've been on the receiving end so even i know better than to try to tell a women how she feels.

    "Why does love, absence of love, the end of love, the need for love, result in so much violence?"
    ..
    I have always been in love with the story of "Women Talking" novel, admiring the similarity it contains to my favorite of all "Handmaid's Tale". And though, the plot of the first is not that much of concentrated, it happened to be profound the same. So the story is a little bit harsh and contains so much violence for it talks about a series of abusing happened against the women of a single isolated city in America in 2010, where women had no learning nor ability to talk for themselves which was a massive contradiction to the year the events are in. If I am to talk about the movie, the act didn't disappoint me at all, especially Ona, or as it was named in the novel "the dreamy serene" and Salome!!! which was played by the actress that I was in love with her role in The Crown "Claire Foy," don't let me even start with August, which is the main character in the novel, however, a secondary one in the film and I think that's really a great idea for the feeling of contradiction and conflict when a male is telling a story of female rage and wrath. Also, I liked how the dark environment of the novel did not disappear and have been transformed perfectly with much unbelievable shots and conversations, though I wanted them to change the ending of the two main characters and the only love story in the novel "Ona & August". Anyway, this was really an extraordinary thing to watch and did not disappoint me in any sort. LOVED.

    Treat women as mothers/csisters/companions, treat animals with love and kindness, not as food and as slaves. Our true character should reflect our bright side.
