To anyone curious, these event happened in the Mennonite colonies of Bolivia, my parents grew up there, got shunned and moved away when they got married, I been there several times as a kid and still have lots of family there.
I’ll be watching this yet, I’m curious to see the accuracy to the true events and the culture of the people.
your parents shouldve been shunned.
Do you find the films portrayal accurate?
@@knitchywa I actually haven’t seen it yet, I hear it’s in theaters in Canada but haven’t seen it anywhere near me in the states
Reminds me of the Mennonites near me growing up in Ohio. I think it’s the same.
Claire Foy needs to get an Oscar for Supporting Actress. Her acting alone in this trailer gave me chills
what is the trailer?
You haven't even seen the movie. This is why no one watches the Oscars. Because it isn't really about who was the best. It is about pretentious hacks pretending they are meaningful and amazing while people like you feed into it. You pretend this trailer moved you deeply so that you can feel virtuous. How about actually being virtuous instead of pretending?
Too bad, both Claire Foy and Jessie Buckley were snubbed at the Golden Globe.
@@dariussalepetru6770 puijjhhyhyyty
Claire foy hates men. She acts as if men are monsters and are something to be feared. Claire foy is the enemy
Randomn Fact: Claire Foy and Rooney Mara both starred as the character Lisbeth Salander in the "Girl with Dragon Tattoo" series.
It would have been something if Noomi Rapace was in this film as well to complete the trinity.

Agree; the trailer is powerful.
I am angry this film did not receive more interest than Tar.
yes,it shows what horrible and ineffective mothers these women were. these women raised all these men. the fault is theirs alo e
I just saw this film and was floored by the power of the story and the strength of the portrayals. This was a deeply moving film. Maybe the most profound of films in many years.
Is it on Netflix? Where can i view it?
To live on your knees or die on your feet, these choices are painful. Neither easy. This movie seems to highlight that in a different way. Impressively powerful just from the trailer alone.
I'm so excited for Sarah Polley! She has been one of my favorite actresses since we were both children. She is obviously incredibly talented in more than one way. This movie looks absolutely heart-rending.
Wasn't she Ramona in the old Disney Channel Ramona Quimby miniseries back in the 80s, I think?
she's really captured what horrible mothers these women are. they can't even raise decent children
This is beautiful. I remember hearing about this in the Actress Roundtable and Claire Foy is brilliant. Also, Frances Mcdormand is a legend.
This isn’t beautiful at all, women and kids getting hurt!
McDormand has bn my favorite actress since I first discovered her in Fargo. INCREDIBLE! & the 2nd movie I saw her in was "Wonder Boys". WOW!!!
Your comment is only advertizing the depth of your own ignorance. You'd ought to delete it ASAP to avoid further embarrassment.
Are you just PRETENDING to be this dense? Same effect, either way.
Mrs. Coen is a soapboxer She hasn't been in a truly good movie since . . . Mississipi Burning!!! Well, AT LEAST this has something of story as opposed to "Nomadland."

I think Pokhraj Roy was referring to the women's courage after the assaults.
Amazing trailer! This trailer highlights some of the high level philosophical issues cited in the film. There were some gems just spouted out quickly and it is worth a pause to just list them. It was pretty awesome plain women just said the most amazing things matter of factly as if they were milking cows. Impressed.
The movie made me think of the abuse and violence women suffer at the hands of men everywhere in the world, whether Afghanistan, Iran or Hollywood. The cast is sublime
from the youngest members to the more seasoned ones. Excellent script, directing and cinematography. Bravo Sarah Polley.
Jesse Buckley is such a beautiful actor. Her work is so raw and understated.
The main question is: can I watch this without having a heart attack from rage? It look incredible, I’ll try 😑
If you have to ask that question? No don't see it !!!

A movie that deserves attention for best performances as an actress in Oscars. Both Jessie Buckley and Claire Foy got snubbed here. Such brilliant movie and performances here.
“ we cannot forgive, because we are forced to” this line always breaks my heart
Judith ivey has been gone from movies far too long and I'm glad shes back!!!
It's truly remarkable how a film, based on a book, that is also based on a TRUE STORY (that happened less than twenty years ago, mind you) is about uneducated women finding their voice in an oppressive society and deciding for themselves how they will go forward --- and the comment section is just filled with so many butthurt men spewing misogynistic lines. I beg to ask, why does this offend so many of you?
Because the wish to do with impunity what the men this film is criticising did. I think that is loud and clear.
Love Miriam Toews's books! wish they would make a movie out of A Complicated Kindness or Swing Low

First time hearing about this movie. It looks so good and now I know there’s a book 😮. Gotta read it!!! Thanks 😊
The original novels are always best.
I grew up in a modern Mennonite family in Canada, violence was normalized in our home but this had everything to do with my father and not the church community. The men in our church were wonderful male role models: gentle, intelligent, tolerant, accomplished and kind. Women were allowed to preach and lead.
The central principle of the Mennonite denomination is peace and non-violence, it would be a shame if people got the wrong impression from this important film. It is my experience that violent men are the product of loveless homes, not any specific faith tradition.
Loved this new trailer! Now I’m excited to see it!
Wow. This one gave me goosebumps.
I've only seen the trailer - but I believe this film is so much more than a men vs women story. I see an established power structure vs the subjugated. MEN are not "the evil" in this world. I would hazard a guess that more men have fought and died to protect their mothers, wives, and daughters than those who have not.

This is a masterpiece of filmmaking.
An important film. Men especially should watch and learn some empathy for what women go through.
And women should watch saving private Ryan, Kramer vs Kramer, wild things, hacksaw ridge, etc. Stop pretending you are the only ones who go through hardships. You aren't. You are just the ones who play the victim for centuries after that fact even though you yourself have never suffered the same.

Our society (Earth) has evolved these past few centuries to allow narcissists, sociopaths and psychopaths hold the strings of power and wealth and it wouldn't be surprising to learn that that has always been the case. As a former Mennonite, I want to make it clear, that behaviors like this are not the norm in Mennonite communities. If anything like this were to happen in my former community it would be reported to the authorities and also dealt with on a church level. Women are treated with respect and valued.
The woman who wrote the novel this film is based on is called Miriam Toews. She is a direct descendent of one of the founders of the Monnonite communities in Canada. She lived there until she left aged 18 and went on to be a successful novelist. She has many good things to say about the community she was raised in but also plenty she was not happy about . There are lots of interviews with her available to read online. Just to add, this kind of violence is not specific to Monnonite communities, not at all. And the few that do get reported to the authorities generally go unpunished. The events in this film really happened, and were worse than those portrayed in the film. They we're reported, but there, as in lots of places, the violence committed against these girls, women, infants, and victoms of both sexes were not valued or respected.

Teaching others to rise above and heal when they are ready to is a healthier psychology. I’ve been in a similar situation as the women in this video- so i have the life experience to go with it.
