How they're not in the Rock & Roll hall of fame is an absolute travesty.
HoF is crap
I agree 1000%!!!!🎶🎼🎵🤘🤘
The only problem with that is "who was really Boston?" Obviously Tom Scholz, but he didn't do it alone.
Truth brother
I emailed HOF and gave them shit about Boston. Told them they were completely ILLEGITIMATE without Boston.
These guys belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Outstanding review, my dude. Love and respect. ❤
I agree and always have!
This song saved my life when i was in a low place back in college. Crazy how that time, i heard and understood every word. It's a very inspirational song lyrically.
Me too honey. My first hubby had committed suicide and this and a few others gave me inspiration and clarity. Much love and happiness to you
Music can turn your life around. Over my 68 years, so many songs have meant so much to me too. God bless you.
Without much debate, the greatest debut album ever. I appreciate your comments & keep going down this Boston path of remarkable musicianship!
I'm in a very bad place right now and this song always keeps me moving
Remember; this is all Tom and Brad. This is the studio version cut down by about a minute set to concert footage. This is Toms arrangements and Tom playing every instrument but drums. That is Brad doing all vocals, even the backing vocals. In concert live these guys play but they are not in the studio.
"A man I'll never be" is a listener. Low key best guitar solo of all time, imo
When Boston played live Barry Goudreau (second guitar) and Sib Hasian (drums) sang background vocals. On the albums Brad Delp did ALL vocals. You're hearing the studio version dubbed into a live performance. The sound of the audience is dubbed in as well.
Their debut album was the best selling debut album of all time, everyone loved their music from the start. They are one of my favorite groups and every song on the debut album is good. "Peace of Mind" is another great song and my third favorite. Tom Scholtz is the main songwriter for Boston, he wrote many of the songs on their debut album before the group was formed but he also "co-wrote" many of the songs after they became famous. Brad Delp wrote "Let Me Take You Home Tonight."
You need to go through the entire first album... Thanks for sharing Keep up the great work
It won't matter what song you pick from the debut album, they were all hits!!!
Its about the message for me. Each song has a message that continues to go forward. It was considered hard rock then. I love the use of the tambourine.
Yes, this sounded like the studio version,, but with live cheering added. It's not one of their greatest songs, not on the level of "More Than a Feeling" and "Foreplay/Longtime", but it's a very enjoyable song. My favorite part is when the drums come in with a long rolling fill, driving the music into the final part of the song. The 1st Boston Ablum was one of the few "perfect albums"! This 2nd album is one of the best followups ever.
This is from their second album Don't Look Back. Nearly as good as their debut
@@fullmoonprepping4024 Hi Fullmoon, thanks for correcting me. Of course "Don't Look Back" is from the 2nd Album named "Don't Look Back"!!! I wasn't thinking clearly when I wrote that above comment. As they say, "If you remember the 70's you werent there." I re-edited my comment so I won't confuse anyone. The 2nd Album was great, with songs like "A Man I'll Never Be".
@@jraben1065 It's easy to do being both masterpieces. 😁
When you get your computer fixed, listen to the album version. There’s yet another magnificent guitar solo at the end.
"Cool The Engines" will go beyond your expectations 🎸🎸🎸
Boston has been classified as "Arena Rock" which I feel best describes them.
Awesome band!
I just love Boston. I love all of their music, never heard a Boston song I didn’t like. Great reactions to them my friend
Vocal greatness indeed!! One of my regrets was not seeing Boston when he was still alive.
The first concert my wife and I saw when we were dating was Boston, January 1979. It was fantastic. R.I.P. to my Darling Wife Rhonda and Brad Delp.
Tom and Brad are it....that's the band. Tom had a 24 track recording rig in his basement. Everything is Tom, all instruments. Everything. Brad Delp was the one thing that he couldn't fake.
HOF should be ashamed on themselves for not having them . These guys were phenomenal!
Amazing group, all hits on first 3 albums!!!!
Yeh, Tom Scholtz is an MIT graduate in engineering. He later started writing and recording the songs for his first album in his basement and as there was nothing out there that could produce the sound he wanted, along the way, he invented pedals and other amps such as the Rockman and Power Soak. Over the years he sent his demos to numerous studios until he and Brad were signed by Epic Studios. The studio wanted the tracks to be re-recorded in their studios, which Tom did not want to do. Tom did re-record the tracks, but mostly at his home. The other three bad members came on board as they were needed for the band to be able to tour. So, yes on the first album, it is all him; the lyrics, the music and the inventions to create the unique sound of Boston.
This is a live concert footage with studio audio over it. Artists back in the day didn't usually do music videos so this is what they did
Remember this one was LIVE...Listen to the recording. No lipsynching here. On the studio album I believe Brad sang all the vocals. But live...they all sang.
It’s sad that Boston is so forgotten, such amazing performers and musicians ❤❤how did I just now find you😮🤗
Tom had to make a band for Epic Records to play live shows.
Sib Hashan drums
Fran Sheehan bass
Barry Gordreau lead guitars and vocals
Brad Delp vocals
Tom Schotz guitars, keyboards and everything else.
Don't Look Back is my fave Boston song. I grew up with them.
Their first album could be a greatest hits album…and you are a great reactor. This song is the name of their 2nd album…
Cant wait til you hear, ler me take you home tonight, last minute they are on another level
You need to listen to this a few times as well as "Feelin' Satisfied" from their sophomore album. However their self-titled debut was so iconic that almost every track is a gem. Check out "Peace Of Mind" and "Rock 'N Roll Band" from that one too.
Thanks for remembering Brad. Some reactors cannot recall his name.
Thank you for your appreciations, MMB.
This TV video is an edited version of the song where a chunk of the music breakdown is cut out
This was my high school senior class song. Fond memories.
You need to listen to Boston "Amanda" for another side of this amazing band
I believe this was actual live footage that they just dubbed the studio recording over
Boston "Amanda"
Tom is a legend
This is an edited (shortened) version of the song. Samething with the "More than a feeling" video. Always listen to the album to hear the full version.
This isn’t the full song, the live version is only 4 ish minutes while the studio version has 6 minutes of content I’m glad you enjoyed it though, every song Boston released is fire 🔥
Boston Is a whole concept by one Man band he only needed additional musicians for presentations
There debut album is the best Debut Album of all time period not a bad song on it.
Go get em brother. Another door opens
Thank you for reacting to this, my favourite Boston song ever!
There was another verse after the guitar solo. Anyway, great reaction to a great song!
Thanks for a great reaction once again. I love how you are super curious and take the time to find out the details. Means a lot, brother. Much love...❤
Great reaction, try "A Man I'll Never Be" from the Don't Look Back album.
I'm glad you enjoyed this, but you should know that this video is live concert visuals(not lip-synced) but the studio audio re-mixed with more bass, some added crowd noice, and shortened. No good live video recording with live audio exists of the touring band - as Tom wanted audiences to experience them live after a horrible attempt at recording a live concert.
The albums consisted of Tom on all the instruments except drums and Brad performing ALL the vocals including the backing ones (with very few exceptions).
Also, the following albums could not reproduce the engineering masterpiece that was their debut album created by Tom's magic hardware and care. The timing of the release of the"Don't Look Back" album was for business purposes, and not as Tom wanted where he would spend years perfecting.
"A Man I'll Never Be" off this album is one of my favorites, and it was awesome in 1995 when just Tom and Brad performed it live (as a special version without the other tourning band members who were not involved with its original recording).
Other songs to checkout are all the rest from their first album including: "Hitch A Ride" and "Peace Of Mind".
I think you would love "Hold the Line" by Toto.
Love Boston! I like the studio version better cause you can hear the great vocals, and the awesome guitar riffs much better....75% of what I hear in this version is bass and drums. (I do like bass/drums), but a more balanced mix is needed to really appreciate this one...
there’s something so in sync about the harmonies-and it’s not like they’re the first ever; csn and Simon and Garfunkel perfected choral singing in rock -that is almost auto tune sounding it’s so perfect. It feels like it’s treated to be perfectly in pitch. It’s not. They just nailed it. Yeah it’s got production on it but you can’t produce tight when tight is not there. (Well with auto tune now you can lol)
And they = Brad, but Tom producing
Peace Of Mind should be next up followed by Party.
Two things.....1. all the vocals are brad. 2. Let this be the last live official video you do cuz they are criminally shortened and studio edited.
Okay actually 3 things....... please play the official studio version of A Man I'll never be
Hard rock, yes, dont get confused with bands that are strictly heavy metal or have heavy metal infusions into their music. So yes, while heavy metal bands will definitely be clearly a 'hard rock' type, they are even hard than simple hard rock. Its a definition that sets it apart from groups that are not so heavily instrumentally dependent for huge louds impact with often much faster complex guitar playing.
What really sets this band apart from so many other decent but rather run of the mill rock bands is the fact its the vision and artwork of largely one man. Tom Scholz. On the actual records he often played most of the instruments. He was a genius engineer in the studio and had his own studio that was set up to his tastes and needs that he required to produce exactly the sound he wanted. He had an ear for the kind of music he wanted to produce and it was indeed spectacular in its own way and right.
He developed the "Rockman" guitar 'add on' to create the type of effects and sounds that Tom Scholz was famous for. It was developed, amongst other products, through Scholz own company Scholz Research & Development, Inc.
Perhaps another of the moist critical and what should be famous aspects of Scholz dedication to what he wanted Boston to be was the fact he simply refused flat out to make songs that were simply clones of 'More Than a Feeling' for better airplay, and would not release any album he felt was not ready or complete and perfected to his vision. As such it caused him, and unfortunate the entire band endless litigation in the courts as Scholz attempted to wrestle away the control of his band and music from the clutches of the recording studios and only release records he truly believed in. It caused YEARS of delays before their third record was released. He was a man who stuck to his guns in the absolute when it came to making music the way he envisioned it.
Some may reasonably wonder if it was worth the efforts as it didnt help their careers in any spectacular way, and probably hurt them in other ways, all things considered, but none the les, he got his way, and when you hear a Boston record, you know its the vision of this musical genius Tom Scholz and somehow, it makes it all the more wonderful.
Boston is one more band that their fans are not just dedicated, but hold them in a vey high place with particular high esteem for all the right reasons. Tom Schulz was one of the few rock stars who had great integrity, even to the point of sometimes being counter productive to some of his own interests, and he had a musical vision that millions still appreciate with reverence to this day.
that was the short version
Please do me a favor: Listen to the FULL song again a couple times and listen to/read the lyrics too.
fun fact, the drummer is the father of the Rock's current wife
You wanna be wowed..do SMOKIN and FEELING SATISFIED
Did you know, Sib Hashian's daughter is married to Dwayne Johnson
If you didn't know, Sib's daughter is married to The Rock.
Need to listen to Amanda
Sib Hashian
Excellent driving music……..
Or even shower music…..
Positive, inspiring……… what music now provides that?
None.
The look was typical 70s
This is actually a lip-sync to the studio recording, yes. A lot of videos are like that so people unfamiliar can first hear the version everyone knows and that charted, but also have a "live" visual instead of just cover art or a lyrical video.
The drummers daughter is married or dating Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson.
You should checkout Something About You.
You can sort of look at these days as much after the whole hippy movement died out, but basically everyone still somewhat looked like one.
I lost a lot of speakers listening to those guys
The drummer has 1 of the best afros I've ever seen... jewfro? Or perm?
There was more to go
that was a shortened 'live' version of the song ... you should stick with the album/studio version.
Listen to the whole song before you completely judge it. The studio version and the stadium version are not always the same. Brad can do things in the studio vocally that he can not do in a stadium. I don't think they lip synch. I think you are better off having the band back you than trying to time the backing tape perfectly to the concert.
Go back to that debut album, bro! “Peace of Mind,” “Smokin’,” “”Rock’n’Roll Band,” & “Hitch A Ride,” will blow your mind again. And stop listening to the music video versions - they leave out stuff and they’re not as high quality! Boston exploded onto the music scene 8 years before music videos became a “thing.” Album recordings are much higher quality from Boston.
while the live version is good, it trucates part of the song that is on record.
This is a really BAD version. They took the studio version and tracked it over clips of a concert and added crowd noise to give the impression of a live performance. Trust me, they didn’t sound like that live. One big reason is that most of the studio time it was just Tom or Tom and Sid. Brad came in later to lay down the vocals. Tom played everything except drums. The other guys in the band were hired later for live performances because Tom couldn’t play everything all at once all by himself.
Ultimate feel good rock love seeing you enjoying one of the best of all time
