10:30 you want to have to think about the fact that this was 1977 and they're singing live with no extra equipment to make them sound better this is what they sound like live and this is what they sound like recorded that is what makes them one of the best bands of all times
Don Henley on drums and lead vocals, Randy Meisner on bass and background vocals, Glenn Frey on acoustic guitar and background vocals, Don Felder on double neck Gibson guitar and background vocals. Joe Walsh on Fender telecaster guitar and background vocals. Felder and Walsh dueling solo is legendary!!!!!
Well said.
You just said everything I was just gonna say. Good Job. 🤙
That epic duel is my absolute favorite of all time.
I agree with you EXCEPT Glenn Frey was not a background singer. He sang LEAD on a large part of their songs. His voice was legendary!!!!! He also wrote and co-wrote the majority of their hits!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe a little more research was needed.......
I could never call that duet a dueling solo. They are so totally in sync, so focused on each other.
The Eagles are by far my favorite band of all time. They don't have a single song i don't like
The eagles one of the greatest.
Dude!!!! I was there! It was a wedding gift and one of the best concerts I have ever been to, except for the original Woodstock...... That's another story! And yes I am an old hippie, I never changed, the freaking world changed around me.
So welcome, to a tiny slice of what my beautiful world was like.
I was there too! One of the best concerts I went to in the ‘70s.
Dude I got married in 77 too sept
Oh, the best memories.
I’m here for the stories!
Jealous😊
My husband is a retired drummer. He often sang 4-5 leads per show. It’s not where the drums are located that’s the hindrance. Imagine, if you will, moving each arm and leg independently AND singing. Drumming requires energy and oxygen. Phrasing and getting a breath requires a lot of skill.
Exactly most can't do it, especially at that skill level.
I wish your husband had played in my band "back in the day"
The Eagles set the standard for the best groups having three guitars and all members can sing. These are the most successful bands because they wrote, played and sang their songs. This reduced the interference by record companies and the band got all the cash. No studio musicians or songwriters to pay behind the scenes. Don Henley and Glenn Frye were smart leaders. Every band member has released solo albums and sang in the lead on a variety of Eagle song. This is the band that wrote the manual for success in rock music.
Well said
Randy Meisner is playing bass on this song. He is on the far left. The two lead guitars are Don Felder (double neck guitar) and the legendary Joe Walsh.
I didn't know his name, but I saw him on the far left. I'll try to remember that.
Seven Bridges road one of the best vocal harmonies I've ever heard!!!!👍👊😎🇨🇦
I AGREE!!!
Yes, Seven Bridges Road has amazing vocal harmonies!!
Actually Linda ronstadt had the Eagles as her touring band then they decided to create their own band from and that became history. Maybe try a reaction to her music like "You're No Good" which was one of her most famous songs.
It's so sad that Linda Ronstadt cannot sing anymore because of her MS.
And Blue Bayou..that one is so beautiful
They don’t really have a “lead singer”…just depends on the song. Sometimes you will have Don, sometimes Glenn (RIP) and sometimes Joe. They all have amazing voices.
sometimes Randy..... sometimes Timothy...
@@timjones8377 Or Randy.
Randy Meisner sang lead on Try And Love Again and his replacement Timothy B Schmidt sang lead on I Can't Tell You Why.
That dueling guitar solo between Felder and Walsh is legendary. They were so in sync it's unreal. They are the best of the best. Glenn Frey (pronounced fry like eye) was a master with the arrangements, and he and Henley wrote most of their songs. Felder came up with the opening riff and Henley and Frey ran with it from there. And Henley playing drums while singing lead on such a wordy song... These guys are rock and roll Gods. Their live shows sound as good or better than the studio versions of all their songs. Not easy to do, but they make it look like nothing. RIP Glenn 🥲
Fun fact, Don Felder, the guy on the double neck guitar wrote Hotel Calfornia. Without him there'd be no Hotel California.
He wrote the music for it... Don Henley and Glenn Frey wrote the lyrics. The three of them combined, wrote Hotel California.
I wish i could tell you all about the Eagles but cant but when hearing and seeing Hotel California a lot of people assume the y have only one vocalist but each of them are Vocalist in their own Right and atleast 3 of the Eagles are some of the world best Vocalist the five of them had their own Bands apart and they could all play different instuments and lets say Randy meisner was one of the best Bassist around and one of the best voices too but Don Henly and Glen Freye are some of the voices you ever Heard .they are still playing but only like three of the originals left though theyve had awsome Harmonies like no other and killer vicals too and all kinds of instumentstios.please check out their music from 1971 until Right now and it will all come Home. May all the Eagles that have passed on be Remembered be Remembered and R.E.P.
The double neck guitar is a 12 - string guitar on the upper neck and a 6 string on the lower neck. Randy Meisner the bassist was absolutely a member of the band!
The lyrics to Hotel California have been ingrained in my brain (I would say my heart) since I was 14, I am now 60, whenever one of them dies it is like a personal loss.
Agreed, the loss of Frey felt so personal.
Yep, this is quite the classic tune, one of the best songs ever written and performed. You can't go wrong with the Eagles-hit after hit.
Such a huge catalog
Very popular song = "Desperado"
Under-appreciated Jam = "Those Shoes"
Eagles are iconic!! Very very good lots of great songs in their catalog!!!
There’s a live version of “Take it to the Limit” - phenomenal!
Randy is amazing on that live performance.
It definitely was awesome
My second favorite by them. Hotel California being the first of course
My favorite song of all time. My wife even had it played for the final song/dance at our wedding.
Randy Meisner on bass was an original member. He left the band after the Hotel California tour. He sings Take it to the limit. This is an awesome song where Randy hits some real high notes. He quit because he didn’t feel like he could hit those notes night after night on tour. The crowds loved Randy singing this song and Glen Frey got pissed that he didn’t want to sing it.
One of the greatest guitar duet solos ever! Don and Joe were in sync!
twin leads used to be a common thing. Skynyrd, Allman Bros, they all did it. We called it "cutting heads" back in the day. Swapping licks back and forth. The thing about the Eagles is every one of them could sing and write. All had solo careers alongside the group. as for the3 bass player, this one was Randy Meisner and he sang one of their biggest hits "Take it to the Limit" which showcases his tenor voice. When Randy left Timothy B. Schmidt replaced him and he sang on the hit " I Can't Tell You Why"
I'm jumping up and down, so happy you are reacting to the EAGLES!!!!! They are ALL so very talented!!!! oh yes my son, go down this rabbit hole, you will NEVER regret it!!!!!!!! Some of their Greatest hits are; Take it easy, one of these nights, take it to the limit, witchy woman, the best of my love, Lyin' eyes, Desperado, Take it to the limit, and many many more!!!! ENJOY!!!!!!! Don Henley and Glenn Frey wrote most of the Eagles music...
Randy Misner was the bassist. All of them were lead singers on songs - but mostly Henley and Frey. So many good tunes. Life in the Fast Lane, Witchy Woman, One of these Nights, and one of my favorites Those Shoes. I am enjoying your reactions - thanks!
Randy is on the far left. Very underrated bassist and this bass line is especially tasty. "One of These Nights", too.
The "solo" was really 3 guitars (the double neck being 12 string on top and 6 string on the bottom), however, you are correct it was a 2 guitar solo b/c only the bottom neck of the double neck was used. The Eagles were the hottest ticket when I was a teenager, although I was a Zep head. When I did see The Eagles, I was NOT disappointed! As you saw, they delivered live what they gave on vinyl. I saw them in '78.
Joe Walsh had recently joined the group I believe in 1976. Prior to that he was with "The James Gang" best known for "Funk 49", and his solo career which was amazing in itself with "Rocky Mountain Way" amongst his most popular signature songs. He was the one wearing the bandana on his head in the guitar solos.
Those great Eagles harmonies, iconic. Don Henley great singer but so were the others too. All so talented.
"Rock and Roll Hall of Fame", baby!
There is a Fender bass, played by Randy Meisner., and he was definitely a member of the Eagles. The top of the double neck guitar is a 12 string guitar, the bottom is the usual 6 string. If you don't know the difference between a 6 and 12 string guitar, you can look it up. You must listen to the live version of "Take It To The Limit" - Meisner sings lead. He has an amazing falsetto voice. I wouldn't call this the best solo either, because it is a duo. I would call it the best guitar duet ever.
Randy Meisner is on bass guitar, and he sings solo on the Eagles' hit song "Take it To the Limit." Don Felder (on double neck guitar) is the genius who wrote the guitar solo at the end.
This CD is playing 100% of my driving time...
In the song when it says "warm smell of colitas rising up through the air", Colitas is the Spanish word for "little tails" and refers to the tips of marijuana leaves, which were said to be the most potent part of the plant. I lived in Texas for several years and I do believe that is a fact. Lol. The song brings back so many memories. Thank you for sharing.
Here is a link to “Take it to the Limit” with Randy Meisner singing (he was an original member of the Eagles ). There was a bunch of drama with Don Henley (drummer) and Randy. Every time this clip gets released Don Henley gets it pulled. This live version with Randy is better than the studio…and far superior than anyone trying to replicate Randy once he left the band.
This entire album is worth a listen.
Joe Walsh (red bandana) is a legendary solo artist as well AND, I believe, the son-in-law of the legendary Ringo Starr of The Beatles!
Ringo is married to Barbara Bach (the Bond girl from "The Spy Who Loved Me"). Joe is married to Margorie Back, Barbara's sister. That makes Joe and Ringo brothers-in-law.
Should be Marjorie Bach, not Back.
@@TheCkent100 Ahhhhhhhh... Thanks for clearing that up.
Check out " Life in the fast lane" Don Henley sings on that too. All these could sing..and did. Eagles were a phenomenal band. Love your channel. That's how we all learn. We get out of our comfort zone
Listen to the live performance of "Take It To The Limit".
I'm so glad that I was able to see the Eagles in concert before we lost Glen Frey. It was magical. So many timeless songs with a classic sound that will never die.
Sadly, Linda Ronstadt has MS and can no longer sing. She had such a beautiful voice.
I managed to see them live in 2019 with Declan Frey in his dads place... one of the best concerts I've been to, absolutely amazing x
The eagles were amazing. MJ was too. Eagles had such a unique way of telling a story.
Double Neck Guitar - top is a 12 string electric guitar and the bottom is a six string electric guitar
On the double necked guitar, one neck is a standard strung neck while the other is strung as a 12 string. The 12 string is strung like a normal six string but each string is paired with a light gauge string that are tuned all the same giving those six strings a unique tonal quality.... I think....lol. Take a look at the tuning head on the upper neck & you'll see twelve tuning pegs.
I once took a road trip with a niece, from San Antonio, Texas to Chicago, Illinois to attend a graduation ceremony. Both of us were big Eagles fans. I had the Biggest Hits Double Album that had 4 CDs. We listened to that album all the way up there and all the way back. Every song on all tracks were pure gold. Not a single one you would skip over.
Double-necked guitar:
The most common variation (and depicted in this performance) has 12 strings on the top guitar, and 6 strings on the bottom.
Other variations might include a mandolin on top, or a bass guitar on top. But those are less common.
:-)
They were phenomenal!! They all sang lead in different songs!! Amazing!!❤❤❤❤
Holy rabbit hole...
So many killer songs.
Also, Eagles songs lead to listening to Don Henley to Joe Walsh to Glenn Frey.
Edit:
Double neck allows you have 2 guitars. His version is a pretty common layout of 12 string and six string.
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmy Vaughn play the same double neck at once on "Pipeline", which is worth seeing.
"I don't think I ever saw two guitars share a solo."
LYNYRD SKYNYRD'S "Free Bird" solo, hold my pick ....
Ha!
You should give "Love Will Keep Us Alive"...absolutely amazing vocals by Timothy B. Schmidt, the bass player.
And “I Can’t Tell You Why”. Another Timothy on lead.
So now you've heard Hotel California live. You might want to check out the live version from their Hell Freezes Over tour from 1994. If nothing else, the sound quality is so much better.
Thank you for your thoughtful attention to this iconic song. Walsh and Felder are truly awesome aren't they. You have a very authentic approach, it's not very common. I have to say makes me sad when you say you're stupid, you're a real and beautiful spirit. Rest in peace Glen Frey (oddly pronounced 'fry') ❤️
That's Glenn lol!
Linda’s Band was One Trick Pony. They became the Eagles after they left her to go on their own. Thank God they did!
4 lead singers = Don Henley, Glen Frey, Joe Walsh, and Randy Meisner to be replaced eventually by Timothy B. Schmidt. Great harmonies and great lyrics that people remember for life! Greatest Hits 71-75 and Hotel California are top selling albums. Try more current live concert from Melbourne, Australia, they bring a very good horn section with them for that concert!
Not a solo, a duel. Semi-scripted and a challenge added to the co-player. Great music style.
You just heard what might be the best guitar solo in the history of the human race.
randy meisner was not only a great bassist but sang lead on the song, Take it to the limit. he did not like the spotlight, and later left the group but his talent was amazing. Nice reaction to a classic song and performance. BTW, the eagles had lots of top 10 songs. Different, but all good.
Randy had an amazing voice, I love him and both Timothy.
They DO HAVE A BASS!!! I’m a bass player and have done this song many times and learned the bass part…
Another group that has the drummer as a lead singer is "Grand Funk Railroad". Their song "We're an American Band" is one that the drummer sings lead.
That hypnotic, instantly sedating, instantly likeable opening guitar solo riff was created by Don Felder, the one on the white Gibson SG double neck, and has been voted one of the top 3 opening guitar riffs of the 20th century, if not #1. It's beyond classic...more like EPIC. A double neck guitar can be tuned to 2 different tunings, 2 different electric pickup settings or 2 different string types (one neck a 6 string and one neck a 12 string). Not for amateurs.
This was before auto tune and live! These guy’s harmonies rocked! My favorite band.
Joe Walsh is a legend. Where have you been? I grew up with this and can't imagine younger people who are into music not knowing about this age of fantastic music. There were no technical aids, just talent. Today, there seems to be a lot of hype, smoke, and mirrors. This was pure talent.
this is about drug addiction, "you can check out , but won't leave" great song
The fact that someone has never heard the Eagles is mind blowing. Seven Bridges Road is the harmony song. Have you done Don McClean’s American Pie? Stairway to heaven by zeppelin? Classics, all.
Double neck guitar, two differently tuned guitars so you dont need to change them in the middle of a song. Bass player is part of the band. Love rhe Eagles❤
They never really had a "lead" singer; although Henley and Frey had more than their fair share of songs...the other members also sang lead vocals. Can't go wrong with any song by these guys.
Another two guitarist solo is Lynard Skynard live at Oakland Coliseum.. the song is Free Bird.. the double neck guitar (this one anyway) is a 12 string on top and a regular 6 string on the bottom.. the 12 string gives you that ”jingle/jangle” sound at the start of the song.. and the bass player is part of the band, and does some lead singing at times too..
The eagles were basically a super group. Almost all of the members were successful as individual artists as well as in this group
The guitarist in the red bandanna is Joe Walsh. He has some great songs as a solo artist. “Rocky Mountain Way”!!
12:22
The Eagles lineup at the time of this video was:
Don Henley - drums and lead vocals
Glenn Frey - 12-string acoustic guitar
Don Felder - guitar ( the double-neck guitar)
Joe Walsh - guitar
Timothy B. Schmidt - bass
To be fair, each member of the eagles would sing lead on different songs. For example, Glenn Frey sang lead vocals on "Heartache Tonight" and bassist Timothy B. Schmidt sings Lead vocals on "I Can't Tell You Why"
The guitar solo where they duel and synchronize were the inspiration for many songs such as Dragon Force, fire and flames.
I'm sure someone commented on this already but in case not, the purpose for the double-neck is because the top neck is 12-string, played on the intro all the way to the beginning of the solo where he uses the bottom neck which is the 6-string.
My very first concert was 1980 Eagles "The Long Run" tour. Roy Orbison opened for them! I didn't really know who he was, but I knew his music! I was 16, my sister and her husband took me as a birthday present. Can't think of a better gift!!
Don Henley still sounds amazing 50 years later!!!
My Grandsons are 3 and 4. They know all of the names of The Eagles! This is their favorite song. They love Joe Walsh and his quirkiness and can pick out when Joe is soloing! Same with Steely Dan and Larry Carlton.
Don Henley was such a good singer that he branched out as a solo artist as a singer only. Let that sink in.
And yes, most definitely there is a bass. The bass line MAKES this song!
You aren't stupid. You are learning and expanding your knowledge
& it was live!!! Great reaction 😁 Please do more Eagles! Here's some songs to get you started; One of these nights, I can't tell you why, Best of my love, Long run, Heartache tonight, Wasted time, Lyin eyes, Tequila sunrise, Love will keep us alive, Life in the fast lane & sooo many more. Enjoy!😁🎶😁
The bass guitarist is on the far left his name is Timothy B. schmit he also does symbols on some of their albums
Check this out: Don Henley (drummer and vocalist); Janis Joplin; Meat Loaf; Stevie Ray Vaughan; all native Texans. And this list goes on.
This is like a super group as they all had solo careers.
A great song of theirs that show how well their harmonies are is Seven Bridges Road
Take It To The Limit was IMO the best of their songs ever, RIP Randy Meisner.
Saw Eagles live literally 5 days ago and they’re much older now… and they still fucking got it. Not a single beat missed
21:38
In this case, Don Felder's double-neck guitar had a 12-string headstock on the top and a 6- string headstock on the bottom
The opening chords you heard was Don playing the 12-string neck with a capo on the 5th fret, and then at certain points, he'd switch to the 6-string neck
You really want to get blown away??? Those Shoes by The Eagles
Another banger that will blow your socks off. Call Me the Breeze - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Thank you. Best wishes!🙌🏻🎶. The original band. All the members are gone. It’s just a tribute band now.
Ringo Starr was about the first drummer to sing while playing. Also, Levon Helm from the Band, Phil Collins from Genesis, and Night Ranger's SISTER CHRISTIAN was written and sung by the drummer. Kiss had Peter Criss (drums) sing their biggest hit, "Beth".
Taylor Hawkins-Foo Fighters.
Didn't Peter Criss also write "Beth". Sorry, not a Kiss fan.
Born in 90’ and predominantly a hip hop head but this is my favourite song of all time
Linda Rondstat was responsible for the Eagles. When one of her band members expressed the idea of starting his own band, she recommended other players that he could include. Her advice was taken and the Eagles were formed.
Southern Rock as a lot of duel and triple lead players. They were great at it. It's awesome to see live
The bass player is Randy Meisner, and is an original member and also sings on some songs, most notably "Take It To The Limit," which you should also check out.
Classic . What a great song And album. They were an amazing band. They had such talent. A gem from the past. Awesome 👍😎.
Linda Rondstadt is such a voice.
You'll find connections all over the stadium albums of the '70's in what was known as the "California Sound" that developed in the Laurel Canyon area of southern California. The Eagles, CSN&Y, Linda Ronstadt, Fleetwood Mac, Warren Zevon, Emmylou Harris, etc., all played, sang, wrote, and produced on each others' albums.
Linda Ronstadt is a music Goddess. Eagles are one of my favorite artists and have many great songs. Hope you're able to listen to more of their songs. It seems Henley is loosening the reins a little - it used to be difficult to react to them on YT.
I remember the night my steady took me to a park and put Hotel California on, saying it was an amazing thing. I didn't recognize it at 14, but I still remember and see the greatness there
i know this is really late, hope you read this. was scrolling thru the comments and so far havent seen anyone answer ur question about the double neck gibson. the top is a 12 string which gives a very rich poetic tone as opposed to the lower 6 string they're normally tuned the same ,however jimmy page used the instrument w the 12 string in standard while the 6 string was (i think) in G. i could be wrong about the actual key but it was alternately tuned ,because in concert led zeppelin would perform "the song remains the same" writen in standard tune and immediately blend into "the rain song" written in a key w chords that would be physically impossible to play w standard tuning so the guitar would have to be alternately tuned. i hope i answered sufficiently. i also highly recommend watching the live video of the songs i mentioned . face melting solo!
I found your video just now watching 11 mo earlier. Eagles had many lead singers… depends on the song. Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Randy Misner…. All sang on different songs. So they were unique in that different songs hit so much differently…. The talent in this bunch of guys is incredible!
I'm from Maryland too. Went to some great shows at Cap Center. For awhile in 90s it was called US Air Arena.
Hotel California was written about a mental hospital. It was a great song.
It's called a duet, and I've heard many in my life!!!
This is about addictions and Hollywood.. The Eagles are part of the nation at that time.
New on your reaction channel. My Dad used to play this album while I was in the crib. Lol. Don Henley has the most amazing voice. I'm 40 yrs old now & this is the anthem of my life. CaliBorn, CaliBred. ❤ I absolutely love the Eagles. You have a great energy. Thank you.
Hotel California is a part of the rock trinity, with Stairway to Heaven and Freebird. Some may replace Freebird with Bohemian Rhapsody.
The Eagles are the greatest 5 part harmony to ever hit the rock stage.
