10:30 you want to have to think about the fact that this was 1977 and they're singing live with no extra equipment to make them sound better this is what they sound like live and this is what they sound like recorded that is what makes them one of the best bands of all times
Don Henley on drums and lead vocals, Randy Meisner on bass and background vocals, Glenn Frey on acoustic guitar and background vocals, Don Felder on double neck Gibson guitar and background vocals. Joe Walsh on Fender telecaster guitar and background vocals. Felder and Walsh dueling solo is legendary!!!!!
I agree with you EXCEPT Glenn Frey was not a background singer. He sang LEAD on a large part of their songs. His voice was legendary!!!!! He also wrote and co-wrote the majority of their hits!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe a little more research was needed.......
Dude!!!! I was there! It was a wedding gift and one of the best concerts I have ever been to, except for the original Woodstock...... That's another story! And yes I am an old hippie, I never changed, the freaking world changed around me. So welcome, to a tiny slice of what my beautiful world was like.
The Eagles set the standard for the best groups having three guitars and all members can sing. These are the most successful bands because they wrote, played and sang their songs. This reduced the interference by record companies and the band got all the cash. No studio musicians or songwriters to pay behind the scenes. Don Henley and Glenn Frye were smart leaders. Every band member has released solo albums and sang in the lead on a variety of Eagle song. This is the band that wrote the manual for success in rock music.
Randy Meisner is playing bass on this song. He is on the far left. The two lead guitars are Don Felder (double neck guitar) and the legendary Joe Walsh.
My husband is a retired drummer. He often sang 4-5 leads per show. It’s not where the drums are located that’s the hindrance. Imagine, if you will, moving each arm and leg independently AND singing. Drumming requires energy and oxygen. Phrasing and getting a breath requires a lot of skill.
My dad was too, so I grew up knowing drummers could be singers. He was mostly a backup singer, but he sang lead where it fit. I grew up thinking that a Bob Seger type voice was just a normal dad voice. LOL
They don’t really have a “lead singer”…just depends on the song. Sometimes you will have Don, sometimes Glenn (RIP) and sometimes Joe. They all have amazing voices.
Randy Meisner on bass was an original member. He left the band after the Hotel California tour. He sings Take it to the limit. This is an awesome song where Randy hits some real high notes. He quit because he didn’t feel like he could hit those notes night after night on tour. The crowds loved Randy singing this song and Glen Frey got pissed that he didn’t want to sing it.
That dueling guitar solo between Felder and Walsh is legendary. They were so in sync it's unreal. They are the best of the best. Glenn Frey (pronounced fry like eye) was a master with the arrangements, and he and Henley wrote most of their songs. Felder came up with the opening riff and Henley and Frey ran with it from there. And Henley playing drums while singing lead on such a wordy song... These guys are rock and roll Gods. Their live shows sound as good or better than the studio versions of all their songs. Not easy to do, but they make it look like nothing. RIP Glenn 🥲
Despite everyone being able to sing lead vocals, therefore their harmonies are incredible, but VERY FEW bands sound better live. The Eagles are one of the few. Another one was Pink Floyd, but it's very rare.
twin leads used to be a common thing. Skynyrd, Allman Bros, they all did it. We called it "cutting heads" back in the day. Swapping licks back and forth. The thing about the Eagles is every one of them could sing and write. All had solo careers alongside the group. as for the3 bass player, this one was Randy Meisner and he sang one of their biggest hits "Take it to the Limit" which showcases his tenor voice. When Randy left Timothy B. Schmidt replaced him and he sang on the hit " I Can't Tell You Why"
I'm jumping up and down, so happy you are reacting to the EAGLES!!!!! They are ALL so very talented!!!! oh yes my son, go down this rabbit hole, you will NEVER regret it!!!!!!!! Some of their Greatest hits are; Take it easy, one of these nights, take it to the limit, witchy woman, the best of my love, Lyin' eyes, Desperado, Take it to the limit, and many many more!!!! ENJOY!!!!!!! Don Henley and Glenn Frey wrote most of the Eagles music...
Randy Misner was the bassist. All of them were lead singers on songs - but mostly Henley and Frey. So many good tunes. Life in the Fast Lane, Witchy Woman, One of these Nights, and one of my favorites Those Shoes. I am enjoying your reactions - thanks!
The "solo" was really 3 guitars (the double neck being 12 string on top and 6 string on the bottom), however, you are correct it was a 2 guitar solo b/c only the bottom neck of the double neck was used. The Eagles were the hottest ticket when I was a teenager, although I was a Zep head. When I did see The Eagles, I was NOT disappointed! As you saw, they delivered live what they gave on vinyl. I saw them in '78.
The lyrics to Hotel California have been ingrained in my brain (I would say my heart) since I was 14, I am now 60, whenever one of them dies it is like a personal loss.
There is a Fender bass, played by Randy Meisner., and he was definitely a member of the Eagles. The top of the double neck guitar is a 12 string guitar, the bottom is the usual 6 string. If you don't know the difference between a 6 and 12 string guitar, you can look it up. You must listen to the live version of "Take It To The Limit" - Meisner sings lead. He has an amazing falsetto voice. I wouldn't call this the best solo either, because it is a duo. I would call it the best guitar duet ever.
In the song when it says "warm smell of colitas rising up through the air", Colitas is the Spanish word for "little tails" and refers to the tips of marijuana leaves, which were said to be the most potent part of the plant. I lived in Texas for several years and I do believe that is a fact. Lol. The song brings back so many memories. Thank you for sharing.
Here is a link to “Take it to the Limit” with Randy Meisner singing (he was an original member of the Eagles ). There was a bunch of drama with Don Henley (drummer) and Randy. Every time this clip gets released Don Henley gets it pulled. This live version with Randy is better than the studio…and far superior than anyone trying to replicate Randy once he left the band.
Thank you for your thoughtful attention to this iconic song. Walsh and Felder are truly awesome aren't they. You have a very authentic approach, it's not very common. I have to say makes me sad when you say you're stupid, you're a real and beautiful spirit. Rest in peace Glen Frey (oddly pronounced 'fry') ❤️
Randy Meisner is on bass guitar, and he sings solo on the Eagles' hit song "Take it To the Limit." Don Felder (on double neck guitar) is the genius who wrote the guitar solo at the end.
Check out " Life in the fast lane" Don Henley sings on that too. All these could sing..and did. Eagles were a phenomenal band. Love your channel. That's how we all learn. We get out of our comfort zone
So now you've heard Hotel California live. You might want to check out the live version from their Hell Freezes Over tour from 1994. If nothing else, the sound quality is so much better.
4 lead singers = Don Henley, Glen Frey, Joe Walsh, and Randy Meisner to be replaced eventually by Timothy B. Schmidt. Great harmonies and great lyrics that people remember for life! Greatest Hits 71-75 and Hotel California are top selling albums. Try more current live concert from Melbourne, Australia, they bring a very good horn section with them for that concert!
I wish i could tell you all about the Eagles but cant but when hearing and seeing Hotel California a lot of people assume the y have only one vocalist but each of them are Vocalist in their own Right and atleast 3 of the Eagles are some of the world best Vocalist the five of them had their own Bands apart and they could all play different instuments and lets say Randy meisner was one of the best Bassist around and one of the best voices too but Don Henly and Glen Freye are some of the voices you ever Heard .they are still playing but only like three of the originals left though theyve had awsome Harmonies like no other and killer vicals too and all kinds of instumentstios.please check out their music from 1971 until Right now and it will all come Home. May all the Eagles that have passed on be Remembered be Remembered and R.E.P.
Holy rabbit hole... So many killer songs. Also, Eagles songs lead to listening to Don Henley to Joe Walsh to Glenn Frey. Edit: Double neck allows you have 2 guitars. His version is a pretty common layout of 12 string and six string. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmy Vaughn play the same double neck at once on "Pipeline", which is worth seeing.
& it was live!!! Great reaction 😁 Please do more Eagles! Here's some songs to get you started; One of these nights, I can't tell you why, Best of my love, Long run, Heartache tonight, Wasted time, Lyin eyes, Tequila sunrise, Love will keep us alive, Life in the fast lane & sooo many more. Enjoy!😁🎶😁
I'm so glad that I was able to see the Eagles in concert before we lost Glen Frey. It was magical. So many timeless songs with a classic sound that will never die. Sadly, Linda Ronstadt has MS and can no longer sing. She had such a beautiful voice.
The double neck guitar is a 12 - string guitar on the upper neck and a 6 string on the lower neck. Randy Meisner the bassist was absolutely a member of the band!
randy meisner was not only a great bassist but sang lead on the song, Take it to the limit. he did not like the spotlight, and later left the group but his talent was amazing. Nice reaction to a classic song and performance. BTW, the eagles had lots of top 10 songs. Different, but all good.
New on your reaction channel. My Dad used to play this album while I was in the crib. Lol. Don Henley has the most amazing voice. I'm 40 yrs old now & this is the anthem of my life. CaliBorn, CaliBred. ❤ I absolutely love the Eagles. You have a great energy. Thank you.
Ringo Starr was about the first drummer to sing while playing. Also, Levon Helm from the Band, Phil Collins from Genesis, and Night Ranger's SISTER CHRISTIAN was written and sung by the drummer. Kiss had Peter Criss (drums) sing their biggest hit, "Beth".
The bass player is Randy Meisner, and is an original member and also sings on some songs, most notably "Take It To The Limit," which you should also check out.
If you get a chance to see them go for it, they still sound incredible. If you want more songs with guitars dueling check out Thin Lizzy Emerald or Black Rose, Lynyrd Skynyrd Freebird and Iron Maiden The Trouper and Aces high. The purpose of a double neck guitar is that you have two completely different sounds, usually a 12 string on top and a normal 6 string on the bottom.
On the double necked guitar, one neck is a standard strung neck while the other is strung as a 12 string. The 12 string is strung like a normal six string but each string is paired with a light gauge string that are tuned all the same giving those six strings a unique tonal quality.... I think....lol. Take a look at the tuning head on the upper neck & you'll see twelve tuning pegs.
My very first concert was 1980 Eagles "The Long Run" tour. Roy Orbison opened for them! I didn't really know who he was, but I knew his music! I was 16, my sister and her husband took me as a birthday present. Can't think of a better gift!!
They never really had a "lead" singer; although Henley and Frey had more than their fair share of songs...the other members also sang lead vocals. Can't go wrong with any song by these guys.
Levon Helm was the lead singer and the drummer for The Band.He had a very distinctive voice .You should listen to The Weight or The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.
My first time watching this channel tonight and you did Linda Rondstadt, Boston and Janice Joplin and we're blown away by all on them lol! Love your enthusiasm! Keep looking for more suggestions there's lots!
Linda Ronstadt is a music Goddess. Eagles are one of my favorite artists and have many great songs. Hope you're able to listen to more of their songs. It seems Henley is loosening the reins a little - it used to be difficult to react to them on YT.
Another two guitarist solo is Lynard Skynard live at Oakland Coliseum.. the song is Free Bird.. the double neck guitar (this one anyway) is a 12 string on top and a regular 6 string on the bottom.. the 12 string gives you that ”jingle/jangle” sound at the start of the song.. and the bass player is part of the band, and does some lead singing at times too..
My Grandsons are 3 and 4. They know all of the names of The Eagles! This is their favorite song. They love Joe Walsh and his quirkiness and can pick out when Joe is soloing! Same with Steely Dan and Larry Carlton.
Just an absolutely classic performance from one of the greatest bands of all time. The guitar duet gets better every time you hear it. So many good songs to listen to, try my personal favourite "Peaceful Easy Feeling".
Don Henley was such a good singer that he branched out as a solo artist as a singer only. Let that sink in. And yes, most definitely there is a bass. The bass line MAKES this song!
This band is called "Eagles" the other band was called "The Eagles." I have heard Eagles since they first dropped a record and always thought that there was a The in their name but I was mistaken. Eagles are one of the best rock bands ever and the guy with the red bandana on his head is Joe Walsh, one of my all time favorite guitar players. He was not an original member but joined a few years later. Joe had his own band "The James Gang" and also a successful solo career. It is hard to hear Eagle songs on UA-cam because most of their songs are blocked. For some reason.it seems that Don Henley (drums, vocal) wants to keep it that way. Phil Collins is another drummer who sang lead for most of his career (Genesis and solo career) but I don't know of any drummers who drum as hard and also sing, as Roger Taylor does. Often times Roger is singing the whole song through while beating the loving daylights out of his skins. There are a few types of double necked guitars and sometimes they are just 2 six-string guitars that are tuned differently and sometimes thay are a six-string guitar and a twelve-string guitar. I can't recall if I have seen one that was a bass and a six-string or not.
Sherry Heim.......with regards to lead singing drummers, there is at least one more person that deserves to be on that exclusive list. Mr. Peter Rivera is the lead vocalist, drummer, and founder of Rare Earth. Also made history as first band signed to Motown that was not all black. Rare Earth rocks it out and requires as much talent to pull it all off as any band /drummer/singer ever. Your comment is great spot-on information for anyone not familiar with the history of some '70s bands. 🙂👍👍
@@jbass69goat84 I stand corrected. I have only ever listened to Rare Earth on record or radio so I had no idea about the individual members. Thank you for the information.
The Eagles Seven Bridges Road features all five voices singing in harmony. Typically a double neck has 12 strings and 6 strings. But they could be strung for different sounds as well. Rick Nelson from Cheap Trick had a five-neck guitar. Seen both the Eagles and Cheap Trick many times as they used to always play the Arizona State Fair.lol ✌️ 🤠🐂🏞️
Don Henley (the drummer) sings lead on this, but they shared lead singing duties around, dependent upon the song. Randy Meisner played bass, Glen Frey played acoustic on this, but also played piano and various electric guitars - normally as rhythm. Jo Walsh and Don Felder shared lead guitar duties and frequently played lead breaks of each other as they do in Hotel California.
Yes, you were likely referring to Queen and Roger Taylor on the drums. However, he was not lead vocals, but was back up vocals for Freddie Mercury. he was a damn good singer himself😊 thank you for your reaction to a beautiful classic song. This album was the soundtrack of my parents life together. I lost them both last year to cancer. Brings back so many childhood memories.
Another banger that will blow your socks off. Call Me the Breeze - Lynyrd Skynyrd Thank you. Best wishes!🙌🏻🎶. The original band. All the members are gone. It’s just a tribute band now.
11:55 I mostly a singer-songwriter bass player piano playing trumpet player dude but I've played lots of instruments and I have played drones but it's funny you're talking about how you don't normally see this because they're always in the rear, and it made me think of something that I think every drummer I've ever played with has said: Don't mind me, I'm just the guy in the rear with the gear!
Double-necked guitar: The most common variation (and depicted in this performance) has 12 strings on the top guitar, and 6 strings on the bottom. Other variations might include a mandolin on top, or a bass guitar on top. But those are less common. :-)
The double-neck guitar that Don Felder is playing has a 12-string guitar on the upper neck and a 6-string on the lower neck. He plays the 6-string for leads. Hotel California uses a chimey 12-string sound for the intro and bridge ("Mirrors on the ceiling, pink champagne on ice...", and I assume that Felder plays that on the upper neck during those parts. You can't see it because the lights are so dim during the intro and camera is not on Felder during the bridge. I'm pretty sure that the acoustic guitar that Glen Frey is playing is a 6-string, not a 12-string, so Felder has the only 12-string to get that classic 12-string sound used in the intro and bridge.
I don't know if this has been answered before, but the double neck guitar consists of a neck with six strings and one with 12 strings. The six string is used for lead guitar tracks and for the fills. The 12 string is mostly for rhythm sections.
The typical double-neck guitar consists of a six string guitar (on bottom) and a twelve string guitar (on top), as depicted in this video and the one that J. Page played. The twelve string portion can be identified by the larger headstock where the tuning keys are located, making the neck appear longer. Other variations of the double-neck included a six string guitar with a bass guitar (4 strings). If you want to see more than just two necks, search Cheap Trick guitars.
Double neck = typically one neck is a 6 string (for rock sound and solos) and the other is 12 string (for the accoustic sound, both of which this song had)
The double neck is a twelve string on top, six string on the bottom. The Eagles are great. For guitar work that "fits" try Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits if you like Gilmour and May's work he should fill the bill and has a huge body of work..
Joe Walsh is a legend. Where have you been? I grew up with this and can't imagine younger people who are into music not knowing about this age of fantastic music. There were no technical aids, just talent. Today, there seems to be a lot of hype, smoke, and mirrors. This was pure talent.
Fun fact. Don “fingers” Felder on the double neck. He wrote the music to this song. He also used to give guitar lessons to a young Tommy Petty in Gainesville, FL.
Ringo is married to Barbara Bach (the Bond girl from "The Spy Who Loved Me"). Joe is married to Margorie Back, Barbara's sister. That makes Joe and Ringo brothers-in-law.
Double neck guitar, two differently tuned guitars so you dont need to change them in the middle of a song. Bass player is part of the band. Love rhe Eagles❤
Welcome Home! Is always comforting to have somewhere familiar and comfy to come to when all the other stuff starts to get in the way..Has always been comforting to me and I grew up with all this! You can always find something when you listen to The Eagles, I get diff vibes sometimes even today, Thanks for reacting to this, it is so good to hear younger people discover the older bands
Please watch live Take It To The Limit written by Randy and he takes lead. Randy played the bass guitar 🎸 he is on the far left wearing grey maroon plaid shirt. Double neck guitar is so they can get a different sound without having to change guitar 🎸
10:30 you want to have to think about the fact that this was 1977 and they're singing live with no extra equipment to make them sound better this is what they sound like live and this is what they sound like recorded that is what makes them one of the best bands of all times

There’s a live version of “Take it to the Limit” - phenomenal!
Randy is amazing on that live performance.
It definitely was awesome
My second favorite by them. Hotel California being the first of course
My favorite song of all time. My wife even had it played for the final song/dance at our wedding.

randy meisner was not only a great bassist but sang lead on the song, Take it to the limit. he did not like the spotlight, and later left the group but his talent was amazing. Nice reaction to a classic song and performance. BTW, the eagles had lots of top 10 songs. Different, but all good.
Randy had an amazing voice, I love him and both Timothy.
Pure talent! No such thing as auto-tune in 1976. Amazing!!
Thank you.
I'm from Maryland too. Went to some great shows at Cap Center. For awhile in 90s it was called US Air Arena.
A great song of theirs that show how well their harmonies are is Seven Bridges Road
Taylor Hawkins-Foo Fighters.
Didn't Peter Criss also write "Beth". Sorry, not a Kiss fan.
This CD is playing 100% of my driving time...
Those great Eagles harmonies, iconic. Don Henley great singer but so were the others too. All so talented.
Another group that has the drummer as a lead singer is "Grand Funk Railroad". Their song "We're an American Band" is one that the drummer sings lead.
Listen to the live performance of "Take It To The Limit".
Levon Helm was the lead singer and the drummer for The Band.He had a very distinctive voice .You should listen to The Weight or The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.
I saw many shows at the Cap Centre back in the day, sad to hear it's now a shopping center.
The guitarist in the red bandanna is Joe Walsh. He has some great songs as a solo artist. “Rocky Mountain Way”!!
"I don't think I ever saw two guitars share a solo."
LYNYRD SKYNYRD'S "Free Bird" solo, hold my pick ....
Ha!
I used to see Queen live. Roger Taylor could play drums, sing, and chew gum at the same time. Amazing!
Seen both the Eagles and Cheap Trick many times as they used to always play the Arizona State Fair.lol
✌️ 🤠🐂🏞️
Don Henley (the drummer) sings lead on this, but they shared lead singing duties around, dependent upon the song. Randy Meisner played bass, Glen Frey played acoustic on this, but also played piano and various electric guitars - normally as rhythm. Jo Walsh and Don Felder shared lead guitar duties and frequently played lead breaks of each other as they do in Hotel California.
So much talent.. One of the Best bands...
They DO HAVE A BASS!!! I’m a bass player and have done this song many times and learned the bass part…
Roger Taylor and Brian May also sang lead on quite a few Queen songs 🤗
You really want to get blown away??? Those Shoes by The Eagles
Another banger that will blow your socks off. Call Me the Breeze - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Thank you.
The double neck guitar has 12 strings ontop and 6 on the bottom
You just heard what might be the best guitar solo in the history of the human race.
At the time they played the Eagles on both rock and country stations. They have a statues to one of their songs on a corner in Winslow Arizona.
Born in 90’ and predominantly a hip hop head but this is my favourite song of all time
Double-necked guitar:
The most common variation (and depicted in this performance) has 12 strings on the top guitar, and 6 strings on the bottom.
HC is so great that even my piano cover sounds good! 😉
Congrats for choosing it!! 👏👏👏👏
The eagles were basically a super group. Almost all of the members were successful as individual artists as well as in this group
Joe Walsh (red bandana) is a legendary solo artist as well AND, I believe, the son-in-law of the legendary Ringo Starr of The Beatles!
Ringo is married to Barbara Bach (the Bond girl from "The Spy Who Loved Me"). Joe is married to Margorie Back, Barbara's sister. That makes Joe and Ringo brothers-in-law.
Should be Marjorie Bach, not Back.
@@TheCkent100 Ahhhhhhhh... Thanks for clearing that up.
Linda Rondstadt is such a voice.
Double neck guitar, two differently tuned guitars so you dont need to change them in the middle of a song. Bass player is part of the band. Love rhe Eagles❤
The bass guitarist is on the far left his name is Timothy B. schmit he also does symbols on some of their albums
8:45 Wow man, you are saying it's a shopping center now and you know that rings so true. It is incredible. That's really cool observation right there.
Check this out: Don Henley (drummer and vocalist); Janis Joplin; Meat Loaf; Stevie Ray Vaughan; all native Texans. And this list goes on.
They were phenomenal!! They all sang lead in different songs!! Amazing!!❤❤❤❤
Eagle's was my first concert on this Tour.. Another band that is a very deep dive.
Great reaction. Please do yourself a favor and watch Randy Mister perform Take It To Limit Live. So awesome. Take care
This is like a super group as they all had solo careers.
