They actually didn't lip sync this. The studio recording was synced to the original video. There are a couple of versions of the original video with their live vocals, but the audio quality is pretty bad. Lots of static and teen girls screaming. Bill is a baritone. This record was the most played on the airwaves of the 20th century.
Heard the original version and you can tell they were having a hard time hearing the music from all the screaming fans which would have made it hard to sing. But I still liked it.
No, neither of the Righteous Brothers ever did lip singing! That was never done back then! This is Bobby and Bill’s raw voices; raw talent. I am 77 years old so I grew up as a teenager hearing these guys that were awesome! And I still love them just as much almost 60 years later!

They were playing in a bar near a military base. When they finished singing, some black marines yelled that’s righteous brothers and that’s how they got their name.
While they have performed this song, live, every time they take the stage, this is actually dubbed with their studio recording and synced to this video. But I'm not disparaging them at all, they are the goats!
@ Maybe but I’ve seen their real live videos from recordings and they sound just as good live as they do in this video or in studio. Singing for them among many others from this era was almost effortless. It’s when real singing talent was used to grace the airwaves instead of just a pretty face or some producers family member. For example I watched the BeeGees perform live and in person and they were just as good and in some cases even better than their studio work.
These guys were awesome together. I was in high school when they came out with this beautiful song. So many memories for me!!! RIP Bobby! Great voices together! These guys do not lip sink. They are for real!!!
They are absolutely not lip syncing... totally live, total raw talent. Television HD just in its young technology. Billy and Bobby are just outstanding!
@Cunning_Sunt7, HD TV? We just barely had Colour in about 2 out of 10 homes back then! Most people had black and white TVs. No HD, NO DIGITAL -- using an Antenna on the roof, or "Rabbit Ears" inside for reception.
No lip singing on that . Baritone and alto, great reaction … your my soul and inspiration is another great one and will tie in how a lot of soul artist’s from the 60’s and 70’s copied the Righteous Brothers style. Blue eyed soul love them !!!
This was a live performance without any lip sync. Some of these old videos have been edited for you tube and the sound is off sync with the video. Such different voices in perfect harmony. This is pure talent and real voices without any auto tune. I feel that most performers today would not make it without the technology to make it sound like they have a modicum of talent. The Temptations and other bands of the time did not lip sync and even if they wanted to the technology of the time was not up to the task. The talent pool was so good at that time that everyone had to be so spot on and natural. Unfortunately the music companies, when they re-release many of the old songs today they auto tune them which makes them sound rubbish, but in line with modern music, but many people have started to listen to the old songs and hear how good they are and they feel they are being ripped off by the music industry.
Back then there was no Autotune, it’s just pure Talent, Soul And Inspiration is Awesome. The BeeGees are a great band , They’re not lip syncing. It’s Robin and Maurice. Their other brother Andy didn’t sing with them
This was a live performance, no lip-sync. One of the background singers on here is Cher before she became known. Back in the day you had to have the talent, the voice and the presence. There were no dancers on the stage distracting from the performance. You either had it or you didnt. If you didnt , there was no auto tune to save your ass. And, most songs had full orchestras playing. The Temptations came out after the Righteous Bros. Once in a lifetime there comes along a singer with an exceptional voice. That was Bobby Hatfield. He was a counter tenor, which is rare. His voice spanned 5 octaves and those high notes he could reach were pure notes, not falsetto. He didn't have to push it reach for those notes, They were just there. He hit them with ease. You said it yourself when he did Unchained Melody....his face never changed expression when he hit the high C's. Bobby just took a breath and hit them! You just experienced greatness.
Thank God your grandmother opened your mind at a young age. I did the same thing to my own kids. I wanted them to see and learn that in humanity we all can be blessed by each other though music regardless of age. Peace and Love.
This was not lip-synced. You had to have talent to make it back in the day. The Gibb brothers are Robin, Maurice, and Barry. Andy was the brother that had a solo career! Maurice is pronounced Morris too by the way!
When guys dressed up back in the 60's this is how clean they looked and entertainers for sure had to dress the part. The Righteous Brothers looked good & sang incredible. Check out their 1st Moonglow album. R&B and the Motown sound was already big & growing as the Go-Go & British music evasion started in the mid 1960's. Bobby & Bill each were in separate bands back in the early 60's and when this manager put them together he told them they had to wear suits. Bobby said No Way thinking his college friends would fall out laughing at him until the manager said if you put on a suit the girls will be all over you & you will get laid every night. Bobby replied "I wear a medium". HA!
The ladies all MELT when they hear the line "Baby, Baby I'd et down on my knees for you. If you would only love me, like you used to do." I don't know if that line has been stolen for another purpose or not. In the second video you pulled up, one of the backup singers was a VERY young Cher.
It's editing. This is from the tv show Shindig, and they were live. The unremastered version the sound isn't as good, but, live. Girls screaming. Shindig was live - musicians and singers, except for a few acts. RB always wanted to perform live.
This is certainly not lip synced! You do two great singers a great injustice by suggesting so! And just remember...no autotune in those days! Cheers and regards from England. 😊😎🎸🇬🇧🇺🇦
You were a fortunate man to have a grandma who listened to music. Mine did not but my parents listened to country, Thank goodness for high school and the transistor radio we held up to our ears to hear the pop music of the time. We had everything from the Platters and Ray Charles to the likes of the Righteous Brothers and in between. While we started with do wop in grade school you can see the transition from that to blues and soul that transitioned into the Supremes and other great groups like Ric James, James Brown and we could go on and on.
The tall one Bill Medley is almost 81 yrs old and is still performing today. The shorter one Bobby Hatfield (who sang Unchained Melody) passed away in 2003.They started together in 1963 and other than a couple yrs apart were still singing together until Bobby passed away.
They were in a group called the Paramours prior to that. A famous pastor (John Wimber, who started the Vineyard Church movement worldwide) was in the group. I believe he even managed them for a short time.
LOL, no need to apologize for most of the older music you've heard being from Motown. Motown music was some of the best I've ever heard, and I really miss those days!
Bill Medley the taller of the two was a bass/baritone and Bobby Hatfield was a high tenor. They harmonize extremely well. Songs in the same style of "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" include "Soul and Inspiration", "Just Once In My Life" and "Hung on You". If you want a Bell Medley solo single check out "Brown Eyed Woman" or "Stand By". He also had a chart topping single in 1980s with Jennifer Warnes on "I've Had the Time of My Life" from the movie Dirty Dancing. If you want another Bobby Hatfield solo check out "Ebb Tide".
@@Assassyn1980 yes ... Bobby could sing counter-tenor. His range was up to Eb6, but since he customarily sang in the tenor range that was his usual designation. A counter-tenor sings primarily in counter tenor - but that's just semantics 😊
I thought the same, they remind me of the temptations. I remember back in I think it was 1991 when David Ruffin died of an overdose I believe in Philadelphia. I heard the news when I was driving with my dad to see my grandmother in Harrisburg. Temptations and Smokey Robinson were my favorite Motown groups.
One thing to keep in mind about the RB .. they were both born in 1940 which makes them 24 at the time of broadcast. Their level of mastery & skill of their craft is breathtaking. Not a missed cue or out-of-synch note...watch their timing. Pretty impressive for 24. Consummate performers who paid their dues doing gigs. Many people don't know that Bobby had profound stage fright. He'd get it so bad he'd throw up before every show. Then he'd get himself together and get out on stage with Bill and kill it like it was a walk in the park. True professional. I'm pleased their music still resonates with new listeners so many decades later. "What we do in Life echos through Eternity"
Great reaction and comments Voices: Bass, Baritone, Tenor (the male voices from low to high). Soprano, Alto, Contralto (the female voices from high to low).
Bill Medley sings with a bass-baritone singing voice. Bobby Hatfield sang with a tenor voice, but could sing countertenor when he wanted to do so. In 1987, Bill Medley teamed up with Jennifer Warnes to record the hit song, "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life" (which was on the "Dirty Dancing" soundtrack album). The record won a Grammy Award for "Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals".
Well it was produced by Phil Spector and his wall of sound. Phil did "rock symphonies." Bobby said to Phil "what do I do in the beginning of the song I don't get to sing anything." Phil said "you just go to the bank."
I grew up with this song. Let me say, if all the reactors I’ve seen react to this song, your is the best. You really are paying attention to not just the song but the techniques and skill of Bobby (your boy) and Bill. Both amazing vocalists but Bobby and his high notes just wow!
They learned to sing listening to R&B … especially Ray Charles, Little Richard and Bobby Bland. They weren’t trying to copy the black singers, they just Loved the music and many people, hearing them on the radio thought they were black. Bill sings bass-baritone, which is low baritone and bass combined. He also had a great range. Bobby was first (high) tenor with counter tenor range. In other words they were complete opposites. …. But man could they harmonize!
They were part of the old music scene of that era. In fact, Elvis liked to prank them when they were on stage in Vegas. Check out I Just Wanna Make Love to You to be able to compare them to each other. Bobby Hatfield was a natural born counter-tenor (the highest range of a male possible and into the soprano range) which is so rare many consider there to be only one to a generation. Bill Medley was a baritone (between tenor and bass).
This song was the Number #1 most played song in the 20th Century. This is what we called “Blue Eyed Soul”. Covered by a Sh*t load of people!…. SanJoséBob
What I love is (I'm 72) we were more romantic, don't quit on a good love, than modern times move on, break up first rough bump. I believe in working to make it work. Hopeless romantic maybe, but I still believe that way. On these reaction videos there are some younger folks who are getting back the old fashioned attitudes. No era is perfect, but this song got me thinking.
This song was played more times than any other song in American Radio history and not even Elvis or the Beatles surpassed their record. They are in the hall of fame Music.THERE WAS NO AUTO-TONE OR GIMMICKS LIKE TODAY IT WAS PURE TALENT.Dont see this today.do some research.this isn't pretending to sing this is singing.
In 1965, when my buddy’s and I, were cruzin’ round in our first whips, 53 Fords , 55 Chevys and such, crankin’ this on an AM radio, you KNOW they had to be good in order to sound good. (LOL)
They're not lip synching. I've noticed on songs & performances that I know are live there's a delay with the sound If you want to KNOW that it's live check out both " brothers" singing Tell Me What I Say" with Andy Williams it was done the same night that Bobby Hatfield sang " Unchained Melody"- he even has on the same pink suit
There are plenty of Righteous Brothers CD's still available with a lot of amazing sounds. Love Bobby singing Ebb Tide and many more. Also check out Bill and Bob on "Shindig" TV show, singing "The night time is the right time" with The Blossoms and so much more.
You heard this song in the bar scene in the movie “Top Gun” starring Tom Cruise, which was about United States Navy fighter pilots. My father was a Navy fighter pilot, and met Tom Cruise during the premiere showing. When talking with Tom Cruise about his new movie, my father told him that “I could have taken you anytime.” Tom Cruise laughed, and said “You fighter pilots are all alike!” (My father really could have taken Maverick-he was flying his F4-Phantom during an exercise going against a younger pilot flying the Navy’s newest fighter, the F-14 Tomcat. The F-14 pilot was behind my father’s F-4 Phantom, chasing him in a flat circle to get “tone”, when my father flipped his Phantom out of the tight circle. A panicked voice from the F-14 pilot was heard over open comms, saying “Where did he go?!? He was just in front of me, damn it!!!” His answer came moments later when his headphones rang with the sound of an F-4 Phantom getting missle lock “tone”. 😂😂😂
They were singing live, and if you look hard enough, you'll find the live performance with the audio that went out on network television that night. It was not as good as the single. But their performance, timing wise, was DEAD ON with the studio recording. What someone has done here is to take the original telecast -- this was shown on the ABC-TV series called "Shindig!" -- and remove the original audio and replace it with the studio recording of the song. Understand that there were plenty of lip-synced performances on television back then, but this wasn't one of them. It's just that someone replaced the original audio with the studio single to put it up on UA-cam. And most of us are glad they did, as this has become THE definitive version of the song by the Righteous Brothers. This single was the most played record on American radio in the 20th century.
In addition to the Righteous Brothers doing I Just Wanna Make Love to You, speaking of old music, you should listen to Roy Orbison sing Running Scared or Crying or Only the Lonely, or The Platters or the Drifters sing almost anything.
Back in the day audio and video were recorded separately, the first use of clackers was to align the video and sound. It's still used but mostly for editing.
If you liked this song, you should react to Soul and Inspiration. It was written by the same writers as a follow-up to the success of this song. Soul and Inspiration also features the beautiful harmonies of both "brothers" (they weren't related) and peaked at #1 for three straight weeks in 1966. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/WF12mMViw5g/v-deo.html Bobby Hatfield (the soloist on Unchained Melody) is the tenor and Bill Medley is the baritone. Very different from each other but harmonizes together so well!
This is not lip-sync. The audio and video are not synchronized in this video, but you can find other UA-cam videos of this exact same live performance where the audio and video are perfectly synchronized.
The Righteous Brothers sing with a high voice the way women usually do. Don't miss Elvis' emotional masterpiece, which is more powerful than the original version and a masculine version too: Elvis Presley You've Lost That Lovin Feeling Live 1970 720p
They didn't lip synch; however, someone replaced the live audio with the studio recording. Stupid I know. I'm going to find the real live performance, and link it. Okay here it is ua-cam.com/video/03iSUjHaUxY/v-deo.html Yes, there was lip syncing back then, but only on shows like Bandstand and other Dick Clark produced shows. You mentioned the Temptations; there is a video out there with the Temptations backing Bobby Hatfield! Crazy, I know. Bobby Hatfield is a countertenor and Bill Medley is bass-baritone.
They were in front of a live audience with just microphones. Absolutely no lipsyncing.
I think someone dubbed the recording track over the live show. They did sing it live... but I think this video is dubbed over.
I don't think you could have any music like this now. The Righteous Brothers were one of a kind. Pure talent.
There was no lip syncing back then or auto tune it was just pure amazing talent! You’ll never see talent like this today.
He was really singing! No lip syncing. No auto tune either. That’s how real music was.
They actually didn't lip sync this. The studio recording was synced to the original video. There are a couple of versions of the original video with their live vocals, but the audio quality is pretty bad. Lots of static and teen girls screaming. Bill is a baritone. This record was the most played on the airwaves of the 20th century.
YES! True! It amazes me how many cannot hear the difference between lip syncing to their own record and a live performance on these old films....
I have the original record this isn’t lip synced this is them live girl .
Heard the original version and you can tell they were having a hard time hearing the music from all the screaming fans which would have made it hard to sing. But I still liked it.
Definitely not lip synced, just REAL raw talent like The Temptations and around 95% of singers/groups of that era.
No, neither of the Righteous Brothers ever did lip singing! That was never done back then! This is Bobby and Bill’s raw voices; raw talent. I am 77 years old so I grew up as a teenager hearing these guys that were awesome! And I still love them just as much almost 60 years later!

There was NO LIP SYNCING in the 60s. Sorry to burst your bubble
That's straight up God given talent And 1000% real and genuine.
The most played song on the radio...EVER
The Righteous Brothers were huge in the black community as well. "Blue Eyed Soul".
They were playing in a bar near a military base. When they finished singing, some black marines yelled that’s righteous brothers and that’s how they got their name.
This was a 100% live performance. They did not lip sync to their songs.
While they have performed this song, live, every time they take the stage, this is actually dubbed with their studio recording and synced to this video. But I'm not disparaging them at all, they are the goats!

No one touched this duo, SO many hits, so special, They are super-duper 😍🙌👏👏
The absolute BEST of the "blue-eyed soul" genre. Thanks for your reaction.
You've lost that loving feeling is the most requested and played song of the 20th century.
If Phil Spector heard you say they were lip syncing he would flip his wig for sure. Cher was one of the girl singers in the background
They didn’t lip sink. Sometimes these old videos degrade.
These guys were awesome together. I was in high school when they came out with this beautiful song. So many memories for me!!! RIP Bobby! Great voices together! These guys do not lip sink. They are for real!!!

The Righteous Brother's "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" was the most played song on radio and television in the 20th century according to BMI
The magical sound of the Gold Star Recording Studios legendary echo chamber must also be acknowledged when hearing this powerful performance.
This is Live TV.... no lip synch... just talent.
I think someone dubbed the recording track over the live show. They did sing it live... but I think this video is dubbed over.
This was the most played rock and roll song from 1960 to 2000

The first singer is Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield comes in later. The sound when they blend their voices together is called "harmony".
Great harmony! The term Blue eye soul was used to describe the Righteous Brothers! Great pick
Bobby didn’t do falsetto, his voice spanned several octaves. ❤️ Great job, dude 😀
Bobby was a counter tenor
Head voice

This is for real no lip syncing , not many these days could sing as well, probably nobody.
Great reaction and comments

This is LIVE. About the only place you saw lip sync done was American Bandstand and even then, they didn't mess it up.
Praise to your grandmother... she raised you right‼️

This song was the Number #1 most played song in the 20th Century. This is what we called “Blue Eyed Soul”. Covered by a Sh*t load of people!…. SanJoséBob
Bless your grandmother!
They definitely were Righteous!
No lip sync back then...that tape is off because I've seen the right video.
Praise God for your grandmother! She would have left this group if she never heard them.
In 1965, when my buddy’s and I, were cruzin’ round in our first whips, 53 Fords , 55 Chevys and such, crankin’ this on an AM radio, you KNOW they had to be good in order to sound good. (LOL)
The most played song of the 20th century
They're not lip synching. I've noticed on songs & performances that I know are live there's a delay with the sound If you want to KNOW that it's live check out both " brothers" singing Tell Me What I Say" with Andy Williams it was done the same night that Bobby Hatfield sang " Unchained Melody"- he even has on the same pink suit
This song is the most listened to song on TV and radio in the twentieth century .
"Was this a big song? "
It was, by some reports, the most requested song on radio in the twentieth century.
Temptations are classic! No need to compare, they are both amazing!
Phil Spector of Motown produced this song with the Righteous Brothers. Blue-eyed soul.
If you want to hear two men singing in perfect harmony listen to Simon and Garfunkel, you won’t be disappointed
oh yes just waiting for that battle moment when they step up on the risers!! And they made slow dancing memories back then !
Back in the day audio and video were recorded separately, the first use of clackers was to align the video and sound. It's still used but mostly for editing.
I'm 77; this came out when I was in high school. Panties are still droppin' to this song.
This was the most requested song on the radio in the 20th Century
If you liked this song, you should react to Soul and Inspiration. It was written by the same writers as a follow-up to the success of this song. Soul and Inspiration also features the beautiful harmonies of both "brothers" (they weren't related) and peaked at #1 for three straight weeks in 1966. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/WF12mMViw5g/v-deo.html
Bobby Hatfield (the soloist on Unchained Melody) is the tenor and Bill Medley is the baritone. Very different from each other but harmonizes together so well!
I’m glad I found your channel. You really should investigate more music of the sixties. I’m sure you will enjoy it
This is not lip-sync. The audio and video are not synchronized in this video, but you can find other UA-cam videos of this exact same live performance where the audio and video are perfectly synchronized.
No, no lip syncing. Just talented
The Righteous Brothers are icons! This such an awesome song. Love your reaction!
The Righteous Brothers sing with a high voice the way women usually do. Don't miss Elvis' emotional masterpiece, which is more powerful than the original version and a masculine version too: Elvis Presley You've Lost That Lovin Feeling Live 1970 720p
You’ve heard that song many times over in your life. It’s everywhere
This is the most played song of the entire 1900's If you haven't heard it you have been living UNDER A ROCK lol
Bee Gees is Barry, Robin and Maurice. Andy was the younger brother that was a solo performer.
You said you heard of Cher. She started her career as a back-up singer, and is one of the back-up singers for this song.
Bobby did not do a falsetto. He was a Contra-Tenor.
I never was a fan of Elvis or The Beatles now the Righteous Brothers and many many others I really enjoyed.
Bobby Hatfield sang unchained Melody. Bill Medley is the dark-haired guy with the lower voice
These guys were and are considered the best duo ever hands down.
The three are Barry, Maurice and Robin.
Andy is the youngest and had a solo career
