welp, im an idiot i guess. i just went back to my data sheets and erdsteel is still best on pure faith. idk how i messed that up originally, i thought i double checked but i must have made the same mistake twice. difference of ~50 AR at 99 faith min dex. my bad
On a high arcane build, poison waki goes nuts! Morgotts scales best on dexterity, which is what i was running here. but if i were playing at a higher rune level where i could invest the extra stats for it, i absolutely go poison mist on occult offdagger, very good call.

just saw the description, so the feedback on the voice over commentary : really fucking helps. It's like watching a magician do a magic trick, and then having them show you the trick again, but breaking it down step by step
I think your commentary is great! It can at times be difficult to understand when going over technical information very quickly, but you usually do a good job pairing the commentary with a helpful visual, so not much is lost. Overall, I like your balance of 'show' (visuals, editing) and 'tell' (voice commentary, writing), and the voice definitely improves my information retention. If you'd like something specific to improve at, I'd say emphasis or flow. However, your current quick and concise style has its merits. Powering through and putting yourself out there is something to be proud of! Educating & informing in a pvp setting is no easy task, and I hope you can take some confidence in your work so far :)
Hey thanks for the feedback! I think youre right, making better emphasis on important points and getting a better flow will definitely help improve the delivery. I think as i get more comfortable with it, ill shift away from show and tell, but its hard to say. I also really need to work on my tone, it felt very bland when listening back through it

Offdagger in duels is almost must have (I mean it's going to make your time fighting easier xd) for setups with weapons that perform better/equally good one handed. In invasions offstoc is going to perform better.
Been using colossal offdagger for a few months in the area, i like it! Been trying out cgs lately, so i might try that soon. Great video by the way! Your tech break downs are the best.

I used off hand dagger with parry since the beginning, and the possibilities are numerous: _Ability to switch to main hand dagger (parry===>misericorde ofc, but erdsteel dagger w sacred blade is also a great choice given how the R2 is a portative meat grinder ), which allows a change in rythm, the L1 being incredibly useful against low poise fast spammer type. Actually the L1 slashes make you stand still, while the R1 makes you step forward a bit. Also, the backstep and crouching L1are not to be neglected as the two daggers hit at the same time, resulting in surprising interrupts / staggers sometimes _ With SW or GS in main hand, swinging the dagger every 2 or 3 main hand hits can reset the main hand combo animation, and change the rythm of your swings for easy close up rollcatch _Swinging the off hand dagger often can lead your oponnent into unconsciously thinking they can barge in and win a trade _The stylishness. Fashion rings ftw
I've been trying out offhand daggers as a finisher in invasions, feels great for catching mages who will spend 15 minutes light rolling away from a greatsword before admitting defeat
This is the first video of yours that I've watched and I would've never known you didn't do voice commentary. You sound a little bit monotone but I figured that was just making sure the information was delivered eloquently and concisely, like a video lecture, so I didn't really mind it at all. You covered a lot of bases and broke down on a simple level how the mechanics in combat work and how players should react in specific scenarios, and I think this will transfer over to my gameplay smoothly.

I think in ds3 the mainhand weapon always combos into itself, so like R1 > R1. That could be totally wrong. But when i played, i always did greatsword offstoc or straightsword offstoc, which would let me stun with the offstoc and combo the mainhand, so im sure the same applies to an offdagger
So I have a Destined Death build, with off hand black knife and swap around the others for main hand (Maliketh sword, gargoyle black Greatsword, gargoyle black axe, gargolye black halberd, gargoyle black twinblade) and a duplicate of each for powerstance, the build is amazing. The off hand black knife even getting poor faith scaling and no str scaling (my build is str/faith) the black knife gets most of its damage from dex but it’s still really good, I was really surprised how cool off hand dagger with greataxe is

I find it funny that I've been using the Fume Knight setup with a sword in my off hand and an ultra in my right and it's worked out fine in ds2 and works in Elden Ring. Now people are realizing how good it was and now I don't look like an idiot
I just came upon this video, and I found it interesting that someone else has found how fun using an off hand dagger is. I still remember doing duels with some friends, and they became frustrated due to my play style. I would switch between buckler and black knife dagger ‘offhand and And godslayer gs to Godfrey’s great axe. I would also recommend mixing in sometime 2 handing the offhand to use Ashe of war, it helps you make you to have more options. Examples would be things like glintstone Kris or blade of calling, I know that, my play style is different with an offhand dagger compared to what you said within the video. But it’s how I’ve been using it, though mixing in the attacks themselves are good especially since sometimes they expect a light or crouch attack to catch their roll.
Glintstone kris and the black knife have really good ranged ashes. I didnt recommend them as offhands because generally they are only really useful for their ashes of war, having far inferior damage to the alternatives. Instead, you would use these as a hardswap off your mainhand weapon. Quickly swap over to it for its ash, then swap back to your main weapon as soon as youre done. If you arent as comfortable with hardswapping, then a soft swap or using it as a static offhand is definitely reasonable. Use what works for you!
@Rust_BKT really? Wtf thats crazy waki might be special since its intent is to be used with katanas so its damage might be like that to reflect a weaker katana more than a dagger
Wakizashi is also the best if you run a katana as your secondary right hand armament as they power stance together. It can really throw people off sometimes
Hi Rusty B. I'm a newbie not only to Soul's games but to video games in general. And I'm on the older end of the age demographic. The better I get, the more fun I have, but I have a LOOONG way to go. Your videos are offering the kind of detailed information I'm looking for - and that I have't been able to find elsewhere. However, your presentation is geared towards more seasoned gamers and I have a hard time absorbing it. Sooo here is feedback that may give your videos wider appeal - hopefully a win for you - and for other seekers of this kind of info :-). 1. Slow down and give every word love - enunciate each syllable. This will decrease the effort it takes to absorb your great info - especially for the less knowledgeable - which means we'll watch longer. 2. Try recording yourself explaining your info to an actual person in the room - that may naturally set your pacing to be engaging and absorbable. For example, your use of the trading metaphor and the heads or tail decision - I had to stop the video and replay it to grok this - because I'm not familiar with the idea and your pace almost treated it as a 'goes without saying'. Your info and your metaphor is gold. Slow down and say it like you're revealing the key to a mystery to a new apprentice. Because you ARE. Then you will hopefully accumulate many more apprentices! 3. I applaud your decision to add more voice-over. I'm sure it's Hella harder but this video is definitely more engaging and easier to learn from than the non voice over ones I've seen so far. Yes I want more! 4. Sometimes you describe a mechanic but I'm not sure why - is it something to avoid? What is it most useful for? First tell me why I need to know - then I'll be hooked and ready to absorb every detail and store it in my brain where it will do the most good. 5. I'd love some beginner videos that define all these cool combat terms and describe mechanics with no assumption of years of pvp - a bridge for the newb who likes to supplement 'learning the hands on hard way' with videos that are willing to explain more advanced concepts to the inexperienced gamer. 6. THANKS, and keep at it! Like I said, I haven't seen this info anywhere else and from what I've seen, most content creators start pretty rough and just get better and better over time and iteration.
I appreciate the detailed feedback. Ill be honest, i have a speech impediment, and often the reason i start sounding like im speaking fast is im cutting out my voice catching in between or i get frustrated and just try to get it over with. But i understand where youre coming from, and ill try to slow down and give explanations more time. I have a few videso that are pretty well geared toward newer players like with lock on mechanics, movement tech, and an unlisted vide on latency that im working on rescripting at the moment. But ill try to work on more videos that appeal to people who are just starting out. In alot of ways, i find it hard to remember that alot of this isnt just common knowledge, and i run on the expectation that my viewers are already familiar with alot of terms snd mechanics, but thats not fair to anyone whos just starting out. If I'm a Helphen's Steeple user, what's the frame data on offhand, say, Cold Wakizashi look like in comparison to Carian Slicer, assuming I have like 22-24 Dex? What about the Poise damage? I like the style of slower main weapon + fast off-hand weapon a lot so I'm curious.
looked up the data, but its kinda tricky to read, i dont know the virtual dex breakpoints, but it looks like theres 3 stages of virtual dex, and you need to hit the second breakpoint in order to achieve enough speed to get the same true combos of greatsword + offdagger. i believe 60 vDex is the hardcap, at which, you have a 10 frame cast on slicer, so theoretically, it might have more true combos
@@Rust_BKT And Steeple is more a Str/Int weapon than a Dex/Int one like, say, Knight's GS would be. So Cold Waki would prolly be better at least in terms of raw speed/combo. I'm not finding any info on Slicer poise damage but I can only assume its nonexistant essentially.
30:00 during this fight were you pressing R2 or R1 for the roll catches i know you said R2 but i thought it was R1 after landing the dagger hit. thxs in advanced
@@dr.bright2446 yea 125 is considered the “meta” level, where the majority of the community playerbase agreed to. Tournaments and such are all held at that level bracket. Ive seen some activity at 200 in both duels and invasions, but its alot less than there is at the standardized meta.
Yeaaa, more of this man. Got myself a sneaky offhand lightning imbued dagger for my Dragon Cult build that I usually run with another lightning imbued CGS but after watching this I'm keen to experiment with my Dragon Halberd - which I've actually been using in the offhand with Dragon King Cragblade in the main hand. I get those halberd spacing control pokes and quick access to the running R2 of the HTS and that OP weapon art that can almost true combo (no idea about the frame data but feels fast enough) out of a running offhand halberd L1. Slow as fuck though and has none of these roll baiting and catching benefits.
true combo = unable to be rolled out of, meaning the second hit confirms from the first. pseudo combo = roll catch. i feel like both your weapons work down in chasedown, but neither provides a good answer if youre in close to someone. 1h hts doesnt poise break, and offberd doesnt get priority after you roll in. youre lacking an option to give you pressure in neutral. but if its working for you, awesome.

I play on pc, having access to tools like seemless co-op and cheat engine are invaluable for content creation, which are pc exclusive. But from what i inderstand, console has the better experience with reliable frame rates and better netcode
it has no combos with anything that only does damage level 1stuns, i tried to see if R2s, charged R2s, or anything from small weapon classes have a true combo, and they do not. Rather unfortunate imo, i think charged R2 on a straight sword would be reallly cool

I'm used to offhand staff for slicer all the time when using slow weapon. now my left hand is alway be Wakizashi even better when secondary slot main is Uchi which can quick swap to power stance for amazing jump and crouch attack. too bad it can't power stance with other dagger so no dagger kata power stance.

Joke is a reference from the previous video. Synopsis: i lose brain cells when i see a parry shield. The compulsion to backstab fish when i see it is too strong. Even if they never go for the parry, just the existence of the shield makes me play really dumb.

I have been playing halberd offstoc since pretty much day one and the versatility offdagger gives compared offstoc is incredible. 0 commitment everytime you l1 and extremely opressive at point blank. The only problem I have seen is that the rollcatch potential is considerably worse.
Daggers outright counter the standard colossal moveset w/ quickstep. The start-up and recovery both take place between swings with any standard colossal weapon. Easy backstabs
Quickstep in itself is LITERALLY gamebreaking. Not in the -funny haha- way, i mean in the -its banned in every tournament for a reason- way. Not very pogchamp, dont use quickstep.
@@Rust_BKT I've literally only used it on daggers and will continue to do so. Quick step is also dumb easy to counter if youre using straight swords/katanas/and off hand piecing weapons lol. Skill issues arent very pogchamp i guess XD
@@BeefHammer1 im assuming that you know that quickstep has recovery cancel into s, providing a free escape from your mistakes into instant priority against an opponent that would otherwise be able to punish you, into a perfect frame trap that causes the opponent to get punished for making a correct read. on top of that, RQS buffers a backstab grab premature to finishing the animation of the quickstep, providing a LITERALLY, based on the frame data, unescapable, unpunishable backstab grab..... and thats a skill issue? k.
Yeah your recording quality could be higher, but it’s not bad. Most importantly, your cadence and delivery are very nice. Clearly well-scripted, but sounds natural and personable. Also obviously the content itself is great, really in depth and quality presentation.

@@Rust_BKT you’re providing hardcore technical information, not lore videos or dramatic content, so ultra-high production quality isn’t super relevant. None of the quality is nearly bad enough to distract from the information and your voice and writing are nice to listen to. And for this technical niche, you’re basically the best out there in terms of depth, number of topics covered, and ability to actually articulate what’s going on. They’ve taken me from a very good PvE player and absolute trash PvP noob who was too bad to even really enjoy it, to someone able to win at least 4/10 times with non-meta setups. I just needed to KNOW about some of this stuff, the execution was a given with my muscle memory from PvE
This vid was made prior to offstoc changes. Dagger is still just as strong, but relevent to offstoc, offstoc is what we call “meta-centralizing”. Meaning, the sheer existance of it has shaped the meta to run 109 poise. So in that way, offstoc is stronger
Does the slash halberds like Swordspear have any beneficial psuedo combo with off dagger? I have been running GSS Offstoc for awhile now, thinking about using offdagger for a change.
@@Rust_BKT I tested it. No pseudo combo, but the Offdagger works just as well as the Offstoc as chip damage/whiff punish/deterrent tool with a bit less range.
does kgs have true combos with itself while one handed? maybe then you can perform the true combo then get an extra hit with offhand dagger proccing basically any status in one combo!
Offstoc is generally better now, but the concept are still the same when it comes to offdagger. The recovery is still fast enough on offdagger to let you escape a mash, true and pseudo combos are still the same, and offdagger never broke poise in the first place, so thats not really changed either.
someone asked this under a different vid and i believe the answer is slicer still lags behind offhand dagger even with max virtual dex just due to having to cast it, you're better off setting it up with a high hitstun AoW/bloodflame talons/o flame/etc
Id agree with the other commentor, slicer is a bit slow but it has some true combos you can make use of, like moonveil weapon art into slicer or colossal sword into slicer. So its not a bad option, but dagger is less committed, so its harder to punish

I remember some guys were praising offdagger > offts basically on release. Bleach_Meds (rip a real one) I think was one. Kinda funny to see it come to life a year later
If the L1 didnt look like you were having a panic attack, then id agree with you. When someone starts mashing L1 with daggers, i just want to know if their ok, like are they having a stroke? Or what?
@@Rust_BKT The animations sure do look like they snorted seven lines of coke before drawing their daggers lmao. I think it would be neat if the first two swings of the neutral L1 were roll cancelable. It's always the safer option to mash R1 instead, because you can dodge on the 17th frame. With the neutral L1, you can dodge on the 26th frame, making it way riskier to throw out. But I think overall, the rolling/crouch L1 takes the craptastic cake for top 5 most atrocious attacks in the game. It's beyond useless.
video soon (tm).. but in short, dagger is less commitment with faster recovery, 2 frames faster attack speed which gives it many more true combos than what offstoc provides, and its harder to react roll. Offstoc has the benefit of higher poise damage, a frame trap into itself, counter damage, and range. Each tool has its unique benefits, neither is necessarily better in their own right.

you die, everyone is going to out trade you with any setup because you will be doing negligible damage and poise damage, and it someone pulls out a powerstanced setup you might as well just surrender.

You end up playing it as a 2h running R2 and JR2 weapon. You can poise break atleast and stop from getting blendered. You can fish like crazy and try to bank on backstabs. But its a really tough matchup against almost everything
Its not my analogy, its how its generally referred to when dealing with unreactable attacks in the comp scene. It was probably just poor delivery on my part in explaining it. Thx for the feedback tho

I recommend poison wakizashi with Morgotts. Since it also increases the blood loss on the wakizashi and can 3 hit poison

Offstoc is a great tool, easy roll catches and frame traps if they roll to the side. Also just a great finisher if you swap to 2 handed

This is the first video of yours that I've watched and I would've never known you didn't do voice commentary. You sound a little bit monotone but I figured that was just making sure the information was delivered eloquently and concisely, like a video lecture, so I didn't really mind it at all. You covered a lot of bases and broke down on a simple level how the mechanics in combat work and how players should react in specific scenarios, and I think this will transfer over to my gameplay smoothly.

I had this similar set up in DS3 duels. didnt know my hits were actual combos now I have to try it out again
I think in ds3 the mainhand weapon always combos into itself, so like R1 > R1. That could be totally wrong. But when i played, i always did greatsword offstoc or straightsword offstoc, which would let me stun with the offstoc and combo the mainhand, so im sure the same applies to an offdagger
So I have a Destined Death build, with off hand black knife and swap around the others for main hand (Maliketh sword, gargoyle black Greatsword, gargoyle black axe, gargolye black halberd, gargoyle black twinblade) and a duplicate of each for powerstance, the build is amazing. The off hand black knife even getting poor faith scaling and no str scaling (my build is str/faith) the black knife gets most of its damage from dex but it’s still really good, I was really surprised how cool off hand dagger with greataxe is

The damage on off erdsteel dagger with sacred blade on a faith build is scary
Yeah. Erdsteel dagger's R2 is a quick 2 hits too. Waki has the advantage of a tiny bit of range and bleed though.
I find it funny that I've been using the Fume Knight setup with a sword in my off hand and an ultra in my right and it's worked out fine in ds2 and works in Elden Ring. Now people are realizing how good it was and now I don't look like an idiot

I just came upon this video, and I found it interesting that someone else has found how fun using an off hand dagger is. I still remember doing duels with some friends, and they became frustrated due to my play style. I would switch between buckler and black knife dagger ‘offhand and And godslayer gs to Godfrey’s great axe. I would also recommend mixing in sometime 2 handing the offhand to use Ashe of war, it helps you make you to have more options. Examples would be things like glintstone Kris or blade of calling, I know that, my play style is different with an offhand dagger compared to what you said within the video. But it’s how I’ve been using it, though mixing in the attacks themselves are good especially since sometimes they expect a light or crouch attack to catch their roll.
Glintstone kris and the black knife have really good ranged ashes. I didnt recommend them as offhands because generally they are only really useful for their ashes of war, having far inferior damage to the alternatives. Instead, you would use these as a hardswap off your mainhand weapon. Quickly swap over to it for its ash, then swap back to your main weapon as soon as youre done. If you arent as comfortable with hardswapping, then a soft swap or using it as a static offhand is definitely reasonable. Use what works for you!

Wakizashi is also the best if you run a katana as your secondary right hand armament as they power stance together. It can really throw people off sometimes

Hi Rusty B. I'm a newbie not only to Soul's games but to video games in general. And I'm on the older end of the age demographic. The better I get, the more fun I have, but I have a LOOONG way to go. Your videos are offering the kind of detailed information I'm looking for - and that I have't been able to find elsewhere. However, your presentation is geared towards more seasoned gamers and I have a hard time absorbing it. Sooo here is feedback that may give your videos wider appeal - hopefully a win for you - and for other seekers of this kind of info :-).
1. Slow down and give every word love - enunciate each syllable. This will decrease the effort it takes to absorb your great info - especially for the less knowledgeable - which means we'll watch longer.
2. Try recording yourself explaining your info to an actual person in the room - that may naturally set your pacing to be engaging and absorbable. For example, your use of the trading metaphor and the heads or tail decision - I had to stop the video and replay it to grok this - because I'm not familiar with the idea and your pace almost treated it as a 'goes without saying'. Your info and your metaphor is gold. Slow down and say it like you're revealing the key to a mystery to a new apprentice. Because you ARE. Then you will hopefully accumulate many more apprentices!
3. I applaud your decision to add more voice-over. I'm sure it's Hella harder but this video is definitely more engaging and easier to learn from than the non voice over ones I've seen so far. Yes I want more!
4. Sometimes you describe a mechanic but I'm not sure why - is it something to avoid? What is it most useful for? First tell me why I need to know - then I'll be hooked and ready to absorb every detail and store it in my brain where it will do the most good.
5. I'd love some beginner videos that define all these cool combat terms and describe mechanics with no assumption of years of pvp - a bridge for the newb who likes to supplement 'learning the hands on hard way' with videos that are willing to explain more advanced concepts to the inexperienced gamer.
6. THANKS, and keep at it! Like I said, I haven't seen this info anywhere else and from what I've seen, most content creators start pretty rough and just get better and better over time and iteration.
I appreciate the detailed feedback. Ill be honest, i have a speech impediment, and often the reason i start sounding like im speaking fast is im cutting out my voice catching in between or i get frustrated and just try to get it over with. But i understand where youre coming from, and ill try to slow down and give explanations more time. I have a few videso that are pretty well geared toward newer players like with lock on mechanics, movement tech, and an unlisted vide on latency that im working on rescripting at the moment. But ill try to work on more videos that appeal to people who are just starting out. In alot of ways, i find it hard to remember that alot of this isnt just common knowledge, and i run on the expectation that my viewers are already familiar with alot of terms snd mechanics, but thats not fair to anyone whos just starting out. If I'm a Helphen's Steeple user, what's the frame data on offhand, say, Cold Wakizashi look like in comparison to Carian Slicer, assuming I have like 22-24 Dex? What about the Poise damage? I like the style of slower main weapon + fast off-hand weapon a lot so I'm curious.
looked up the data, but its kinda tricky to read, i dont know the virtual dex breakpoints, but it looks like theres 3 stages of virtual dex, and you need to hit the second breakpoint in order to achieve enough speed to get the same true combos of greatsword + offdagger. i believe 60 vDex is the hardcap, at which, you have a 10 frame cast on slicer, so theoretically, it might have more true combos
@@Rust_BKT And Steeple is more a Str/Int weapon than a Dex/Int one like, say, Knight's GS would be. So Cold Waki would prolly be better at least in terms of raw speed/combo. I'm not finding any info on Slicer poise damage but I can only assume its nonexistant essentially.

@@dr.bright2446 yea 125 is considered the “meta” level, where the majority of the community playerbase agreed to. Tournaments and such are all held at that level bracket. Ive seen some activity at 200 in both duels and invasions, but its alot less than there is at the standardized meta.
side note for faith bros: Wakizashi and Erdsteel Dagger will get almost identical AR (maybe 3-5 difference) but Erdsteel weighs less

Got myself a sneaky offhand lightning imbued dagger for my Dragon Cult build that I usually run with another lightning imbued CGS but after watching this I'm keen to experiment with my Dragon Halberd - which I've actually been using in the offhand with Dragon King Cragblade in the main hand. I get those halberd spacing control pokes and quick access to the running R2 of the HTS and that OP weapon art that can almost true combo (no idea about the frame data but feels fast enough) out of a running offhand halberd L1. Slow as fuck though and has none of these roll baiting and catching benefits.
true combo = unable to be rolled out of, meaning the second hit confirms from the first. pseudo combo = roll catch. i feel like both your weapons work down in chasedown, but neither provides a good answer if youre in close to someone. 1h hts doesnt poise break, and offberd doesnt get priority after you roll in. youre lacking an option to give you pressure in neutral. but if its working for you, awesome.

it works but just keep in mind that the running r2 on hts is bugged when 1 handed, and you cant use L1 out of the running r2. it just doesnt work.

I play on pc, having access to tools like seemless co-op and cheat engine are invaluable for content creation, which are pc exclusive. But from what i inderstand, console has the better experience with reliable frame rates and better netcode

it has no combos with anything that only does damage level 1stuns, i tried to see if R2s, charged R2s, or anything from small weapon classes have a true combo, and they do not. Rather unfortunate imo, i think charged R2 on a straight sword would be reallly cool

I'm used to offhand staff for slicer all the time when using slow weapon. now my left hand is alway be Wakizashi even better when secondary slot main is Uchi which can quick swap to power stance for amazing jump and crouch attack. too bad it can't power stance with other dagger so no dagger kata power stance.

Joke is a reference from the previous video. Synopsis: i lose brain cells when i see a parry shield. The compulsion to backstab fish when i see it is too strong. Even if they never go for the parry, just the existence of the shield makes me play really dumb.

I have been playing halberd offstoc since pretty much day one and the versatility offdagger gives compared offstoc is incredible. 0 commitment everytime you l1 and extremely opressive at point blank. The only problem I have seen is that the rollcatch potential is considerably worse.
Yea i agree completely, and no counter damage on the dagger makes a big difference, an offstoc can shred pretty quick. But both are great tools

Daggers outright counter the standard colossal moveset w/ quickstep. The start-up and recovery both take place between swings with any standard colossal weapon. Easy backstabs
Quickstep in itself is LITERALLY gamebreaking. Not in the -funny haha- way, i mean in the -its banned in every tournament for a reason- way. Not very pogchamp, dont use quickstep.

@@BeefHammer1 im assuming that you know that quickstep has recovery cancel into s, providing a free escape from your mistakes into instant priority against an opponent that would otherwise be able to punish you, into a perfect frame trap that causes the opponent to get punished for making a correct read. on top of that, RQS buffers a backstab grab premature to finishing the animation of the quickstep, providing a LITERALLY, based on the frame data, unescapable, unpunishable backstab grab..... and thats a skill issue? k.

None of the quality is nearly bad enough to distract from the information and your voice and writing are nice to listen to. And for this technical niche, you’re basically the best out there in terms of depth, number of topics covered, and ability to actually articulate what’s going on. They’ve taken me from a very good PvE player and absolute trash PvP noob who was too bad to even really enjoy it, to someone able to win at least 4/10 times with non-meta setups. I just needed to KNOW about some of this stuff, the execution was a given with my muscle memory from PvE

This vid was made prior to offstoc changes. Dagger is still just as strong, but relevent to offstoc, offstoc is what we call “meta-centralizing”. Meaning, the sheer existance of it has shaped the meta to run 109 poise. So in that way, offstoc is stronger

Does the slash halberds like Swordspear have any beneficial psuedo combo with off dagger? I have been running GSS Offstoc for awhile now, thinking about using offdagger for a change.
The thing is, swordspear has unique combos into itself, so youre better off using those rather than comboing into offdagger
@@Rust_BKT I tested it. No pseudo combo, but the Offdagger works just as well as the Offstoc as chip damage/whiff punish/deterrent tool with a bit less range.
does kgs have true combos with itself while one handed? maybe then you can perform the true combo then get an extra hit with offhand dagger proccing basically any status in one combo!
When you land a true combo, it reduces the stun level. So you can NEVER land a 3 input true combo. They dont exist.

125, people run 137 if they want to try to hit both brackets of 125 and 150, but its not standardized. All major tournaments and ladder are 125.

Offstoc is generally better now, but the concept are still the same when it comes to offdagger. The recovery is still fast enough on offdagger to let you escape a mash, true and pseudo combos are still the same, and offdagger never broke poise in the first place, so thats not really changed either.

My stats werent optimized for it, its a dex build with access to a couple different things. 60/9/31/16/60/7/8/13.

someone asked this under a different vid and i believe the answer is slicer still lags behind offhand dagger even with max virtual dex just due to having to cast it, you're better off setting it up with a high hitstun AoW/bloodflame talons/o flame/etc
Id agree with the other commentor, slicer is a bit slow but it has some true combos you can make use of, like moonveil weapon art into slicer or colossal sword into slicer. So its not a bad option, but dagger is less committed, so its harder to punish

Oh right, there is another advantage to slicer, off dagger can't do jumping, running and crouch/rolling attacks.

@@Rust_BKT The animations sure do look like they snorted seven lines of coke before drawing their daggers lmao. I think it would be neat if the first two swings of the neutral L1 were roll cancelable. It's always the safer option to mash R1 instead, because you can dodge on the 17th frame. With the neutral L1, you can dodge on the 26th frame, making it way riskier to throw out. But I think overall, the rolling/crouch L1 takes the craptastic cake for top 5 most atrocious attacks in the game. It's beyond useless.

video soon (tm).. but in short, dagger is less commitment with faster recovery, 2 frames faster attack speed which gives it many more true combos than what offstoc provides, and its harder to react roll. Offstoc has the benefit of higher poise damage, a frame trap into itself, counter damage, and range. Each tool has its unique benefits, neither is necessarily better in their own right.

You end up playing it as a 2h running R2 and JR2 weapon. You can poise break atleast and stop from getting blendered. You can fish like crazy and try to bank on backstabs. But its a really tough matchup against almost everything
