@@Jordienit's probably because the counter shockwave that it does, does holy damage and the weapon originally scales with faith so it would make sense.
I think it's because of how damage types and scaling works in Elden Ring. If your weapon deals any holy damage, it'll scale with your faith stat by default. Since it doesn't have any faith scaling on its own, adding the scaling gives a huge boost to the holy damage
Yea infusing the blade with holy over heavy is a ton more damage . You could also buff it with holy grease for even more damage. Edit: the way i worded it originally made it look like i said to holy grease a sacred hammer but you cant do that you have to do it to heavy or normal as it already has double holy from the infusion. Just to clarify i do realize you cant do that lol
Actually heavy infused with sacred order blade incantion nets the highest ar, if I remember you need to use the gods layer seal. Basically the weapon buff scales heavily into your faith scaling, and you can keep the heavy scaling as well. By dipping into strength and faith you also buff the golden aoe of the guard counter. I remember the ar being close to 1400 outside the dlc Overall against most bosses I get 2.6k dmg on guard counters
a documentary of my playthrough. this hammer was so addicting. I wish there were more weapons with this gimmick, like the cleanrot spear doing the aow effect on guard counter, or just more black knight weapons in general. I literally deflected every single hit of consort its so funny 😩 and the little "dink!" noise from perfect blocking.
i really like these elden ring videos, the setups and builds showcased are actually unique, creative and powerful, thank you for making them and for being a good youtuber
This weapon is also perfect for dragon cult incantations as you can attune it for bleed while it retains some faith scaling, which aligns perfectly for the incants. Lovely.
It's nuts. I had an old str/fth character lying around that I hadn't touched in a while, not sure what I wanted to do with him, so I specced him out into a guard counter build and this was one of the first weapons I found when I went into the DLC. It's like it was meant to be.
I did a similar thing but instead of mainly Str I used mainly Faith with a Sacred infusion. You've got 70 Str and 30 Faith, but that means when you two hand it you've got 885 Total damage, with 772 from Phys and 112 coming from Holy. But if you swap it and do a sacred infusion you can do 304 Phys and 541 from Holy, for a total of 845 damage, which outpaces the standard damage using the Scorpion Charm without even two-handing the weapon, meaning you can use an actual shield and both take less damage and use less stamina. Not to mention that you can just buff yourself with Sacred Blade and do even more damage on top of that.
When twohanding, you should really only go up to 54 Strength anyway, unless you're continuing to level over whatever RL completes your build. You hit the softcap for Strength at 54, so every point after that is severely diminishing returns. This only applies to twohanding, the softcap is still 80 otherwise.
I honestly find this deflect tear play style makes the game harder or at least less intuitive as you just have to guess how much knock back certain attacks do and stamina becomes an actually serious concern. Not to mention it requires you to learn a different timing as it occurs on press. Still useful for some frame traps and really fast attacks though.
Idk, I found deflect much more manageable than dodging DLC bosses (I did use Golden Greatshield for the Sekiro 100% block tho). Yeah, some attacks have multiple speeds which fk up the guard counter. Although this made guard counter actually viable. Anyways, what I'm trying to say is, I'm watching people dodge DLC Radahn and constantly asking myself how tf they figured out which way to dodge and how can they do then so consistently? Meanwhile, I'm just waiting for the right time to press block. Second phase with holy bombs fk up the deflects tho (since you can't guess for sure if you're in radius or not).
You can block insta kill attacks and take less damage when you hadn't yet figured out how to dodge, that alone is enough to make it a super card comparable to rolling. Plus the boosted stunning counterattack, it becomes even better than rolling.
I love guard counters. With some weapons the guard boost and damage reduction is so high you can get by famously just using the weapon to block. For everything else there's the brass shield or a greatshield. Great epee and great mace are my favorites for use with a shield.

I just beat Consort Radahn with my own build. I beat him once before with the shield cheese, but this time I actually played the game. Yes I used the mimic tear, but it didn’t end up doing very much because it got grabbed 2 times in phase two which insta killed it. I used the Dark Moon Greatsword at +9 for my weapon. Lords divine protection was great for surviving and I used KLS for when he out of reach.
just made a new wretch that i want to continue using bonk for the entirety (probably will use golden halberd to rush mohg and radahn before lvl 50). had trouble deciding what bonk to use for dlc and end game. now i am decided. having a great hammer this big but the speed in not being colossal is awesome. using the warcry charged r2 is also really fun, could be a great build to follow up counters with if use both axe and curved sword talisman
This tear becomes so much harder to use on NG+7 due to the massive stamina damage, you aught to try it lmao. I gotta use brass shield or better with it to make it so I don’t get instantly guard broken on a deflect.
In my first run I went to Cerulean coast very early, but on my next time I just couldn't find the way there and jumped down there from charos hidden grave after killing bayle late into the run lol
Did something similar with heavy executioner axe with Cragblade except I doubled down on just smashing. With Deenh's War Cry you get even more stance damage. Some good ass damage all around with deflect as well. Settled on Surgeon talisman for a higher burst average 😂.
That ability must be defoult option on relize without any consumables. FS try to balance boss with status overdanage, but all what they need - working defence ability(
Someone who actually completed dlc with deflects, so I actually interested in your opinion. Do you think it would be better if they give you an ability to deflect with a talisman rathen then with a tear? And how overall convenient it was to use this mechanic as a tear effect?
Deflects are incredibly strong, since they neutralize enemy attacks while actively building up a devastating counter, compared to regular dodging which is only defensive. So as much as it would be awesome to have the effect permanently through a talisman, FromSoft would likely nerf its effect for balance, like reducing its damage absorption or the strength of the guard counter. I wouldn’t be surprised if they went too far and removed the fun or viability out of deflects. Right now the 5 mins tear effect is great for bossfights and miniboss fights, but areas wise you can only have a good uptime if you move in a straight path between graces. So good for NG+ or a second playthrough when you know where to go, less so for exploration
It's funny how you can deflect anything that isn't a grab. The boss throws a nuclear bomb at you, and you deflect it like it's nothing
Best part is reaching max deflect stacks and launching that nuke back at them
And then you get grabbed and everything goes wrong
I noticed in my run using endure prevents messmer from grabbing you during the grab. It's not a deflect but it's good to have options.
@@IamtheSubSandwich that's actually pretty useful for the endure users

9/10 times, the hammer is actually a lot better sacred infused than heavy. It makes the AoE stronger, and I believe makes it deal more stance damage.
That’s strange, I recall heavy with cragblade netting more AR overall - I didn’t know sacred had passive bonuses on the guard counter!
