    Would like to know if you can do a video on what steps you take to self check the condition of a card to determine whether it’s worthy to send in for grading

    I have the fi-7030. I mainly sell Pokemon, Yugioh, and Magic cards. Scanning unsleeved causes scratches. Scanning them sleeved works if you take the wheel out, otherwise they get jammed. I have to wipe the scanner about every 100-200 cards or it will start to produce lines in the scan. It's way faster than manually uploading, but it is tedious in its own way. Sometimes it catches the sleeve, takes it off and scratches the card. Using tight fitting sleeves fixed this. Some sports cards I've scanned were slick and would catch the sleeve anyways. Putting them in upside down with the sleeve opening face down worked without damaging the cards. Keep up the good vids JMac!

    This is the first time I’ve ever commented it on a video. I very much enjoy your content and you seem like a genuine dude. That being said. I bought this scanner on your recommendation. It scratched the hell out of the front of the cards, wrinkles the penny sleeve and chews up the semi rigid. Is there something I’m doing wrong?? I removed the wheel and clean it often.

  • @tybates323
    @tybates323 Рік тому +2

    I bought the epson, it works great but it really struggles with anything thick at all. It also has the print lines on them all. Does the 8170 leave any lines? And what pt cards would you say is the biggest it can handle? Thanks

    • @JMacSportsCards
      @JMacSportsCards  Рік тому +1

      Yeah Epson can really only do regular stock cards, 8170 doesnt leave lines in my experience thus far and on their website it says "Scans documents up to 7 mm, including IDs and pamphlets." 7mm is 1/4 inch.

    I bought a FI-8170 last week after using a 7030 for several months. I wanted something that could scan penny sleeves and top loaders. After removing the wheel, it works great but I’ve noticed that there is a thin line on the surface facing up. I believe it is a guide or something in the machine but don’t know know to adjust it. Have you had similar issues? Thanks for the video.

    • @JMacSportsCards
      @JMacSportsCards  Рік тому +1

      I have been playing with it and turning them every which way to get the best scans, my experience is top loaders/semi rigid just turn out the best scans overall. Penny sleeves are hit or miss on all the scanners with having lines on them, just no avoiding it.

    I bought a little catcher off of eBay and it came with two things to prob up the scanner. 10/10 would buy another 8170 again. Don’t have the Prizm or select scanning well but everything else is golden.

    Brotha Jmac, thanks for the vid. Toying with the 8170 and even though I "microfiber" the cards, the scanner is so good it picks up speckles/speck debris - have you found the software setting to "clean" those off (as they are not flaws!)?

      do you scan raw cards then? i don't see how onecan do toploader unless the toploader is brand spanking new so no marks that will be mistaken for the card. I guess that's the ticket lol? i use "used" toploaders basically. Also, did you take out the roller bc seems it auto feeds without doing that. Thank you!

  • @mooreinsightcards
    @mooreinsightcards 6 місяців тому

    I'm considering getting an 8170 but would like to know how many cards does the standard auto feeder that comes with it can hold for penny sleeved and toploaded? For example, can it hold 40 penny sleeved cards in one go and 25 toploaded? Essentially, if you wanted to fully load the autoloader with either penny sleeved or toploaders, how of each would it hold? This is a question for the standard feeder that comes with it not the 3rd party giant loader.

    • @JMacSportsCards
      @JMacSportsCards  6 місяців тому

      you just keep loading it as its feeding, not sure the exact number it holds initially bc its not that important or how its used.

    JMac: Thank you for the demo of the FI 8170!
    If you compare the FI 8170 with the one you tested earlier (FI 8040) what do you think are the shortcomings of the FI 8040? For example is there things that you can do in one and not in the other or in other words what the extra $2-300 for FI 8170 gets us?
    My 2-nd question is regarding the wheel that you took out from the FI 8170 but doesn't need to be taken out on FI 8040; What will happen if we keep the wheel in? Is the presence of the wheel just going to limit the thickness of what we can scan or the scanner will start to "chew" the penny sleeve (like the Epson ES 400 II likes to do with the wheel present) ?

    • @JMacSportsCards
      @JMacSportsCards  Рік тому

      fi-8040 doesn't do cards in just penny sleeves well (for whatever reason), it does fine with cards in top loaders/semi rigid so to me having the flexibility to scan any card in any holder (basically) totally makes the fi-8170 well worth spending up for if you can make it happen.

    What scanner do you recommend for cards that are refractor, holo, silve, reflective etc etc. I own the FI-8170 and it's terrible for reflective cards. That being said I am impressed with its speed. I see scans with the v600 that look incredible, bright and show the reflective aspect perfectly. I am not so much concerned with speed as I am accuracy so with the card dealer pro being able to recognize and separate the different cards from a single scan and save them as separate files, you could go through some high end cards fairly quick without having to spend hours adjusting settings and creating templates and profiles for every single color and type of reflective card ya know.. Love the videos thanks again!

    "End all, be all" scanner? Maybe if your world is raw cards only. Graded cards need a different type of scanner. Impressive the way it pushed through that stack of cards. I would be worried about damage to cards in penny sleeves. As you demonstrated, sometimes this scanner jams two together.
