      What are some of the issues you're finding? I'm happy to add them into my more advanced guide, as this was just for beginners. I'll be going over what scans with roller in, vs roller out, why landscape orientation vs portrait. How to scan mini, speed vs accuracy setting, paper vs chrome vs lenticular vs acetate, etc...

    Thanks for the video! Anyway to show chrome/prizm scanner settings possibly?

    • @MontereySportsCards2
      @MontereySportsCards2  8 місяців тому +1

      Absolutely! For Chrome/Prizm I use:
      Brightness: 128
      Contrast: 255
      Shadow: 17
      Highlight: 255
      Gamma: 1.55
      Recently been toying with the Paperstream Default 004: Color Cards, and might be sticking with that, as I can use it for paper cards and chrome cards in the same batch. It makes the Chrome cards a little faded, but overall I'm happy with it. In case you've changed those settings, the default is:
      Brightness: 128
      Contrast: 128
      Shadow: 0
      Highlight: 255
      Gamma 1.00
      Hope this helps and any more questions, just ask!

    Great video thanks! A couple questions - what is your ebay username? Also Do you need to take out the roller in the printer? I might have missed it in the video. Also can you scan cards but not use Card Dealer Pro meaning just do bulk scans for inventory? Thanks!

      @MontereySportsCards2  8 місяців тому

      Andrew, thanks for watching and for your questions! My username on eBay is MontereySportsCards Link: www.ebay.com/str/montereysportscards - Super cool for you to ask and I guess that's something I should put in the description. I do take the roller out, and actually I don't put the roller back in for anything I scan. Naked cards, penny sleeve, top loader, vintage, you name it, I keep the roller out. Stay tuned for the Advanced version of this video which will address the roller issue and much more.
      As for just scanning cards, yes you can absolutely. You do not need Card Dealer Pro at all to scan and inventory your cards. You can just use PaperStream Capture (or any scanning software you prefer) and catalog your cards within Windows Explorer if using Windows. Hope this helps and any more questions, please just ask!

    Any hints for scanning black border cards? When you turn off edge correction, you lose the white border. A lot of my black border cards keep getting cut off.

    • @MontereySportsCards2
      @MontereySportsCards2  8 місяців тому

      First thanks for having me dig into this a bit. For black border cards, in Scanner Settings, go to the PAGE options and change Output size from Margin to Scanning Area then Width 3.5 and Length 2.5 (If doing a standard size card, in landscape orientation on the scanner) and change priority to Accuracy. You wont' have any margin/background, but your black order cards will be scanned flawlessly and won't be cut off. Hope this helps!

    Can you provide the settings for the fi-8170 to scan base cards in penny sleeves?

    • @MontereySportsCards2
      @MontereySportsCards2  4 місяці тому +1

      I actually use a default option within PaperStream Capture called "Color Cards". I've found that to be great for 99% of my needs, even refractors, prizm, etc.. Chrome cards themselves, not so much as it's pretty dark, I'm working on settling on a setting for those. Also make sure you've removed the roller within the 8170 before scanning cards with penny sleeves. I hope to add an Advanced video at some point here, which would walk through all of that!

    Thank you so much for this informative video. I just bought my fi-8170 and I was struggling to get the settings right as there wasn't many videos that explain a whole lot about setting up the scanner for the first time. I'm so glad that I came across your tutorial, it's helped me loads and I've now being able to scan my first set of cards with ease thanks to your guide! Amazing video, thank you for uploading it 👏 One issue that I can't solve at the moment; I'm getting streak lines on the scanned images? Hey man, first, amazing name! When you open the 8170 at the top, there is a little black arm that can be removed if it's what is causing the problem. Also, have you removed the roller within the scanner? My video did not go over that part, as that was/is intended to be included in the Advanced Guide (which I hope to release soon!). Please let me know if I can be of any more help!

      @@MontereySportsCards2thanks for your reply. Yeah, I removed the rollers at the front of the scanner but I was still getting the lines but just on the back of the cards. I seen a video from Ricoh about maintenance of the scanner and there is 2 glass strips inside of the scanner, one for the front and one for the back. I gave that a quick clean with some IPA and the streak lines have now resolved, woohoo! I did notice that taking out the roller did make the scans go quicker. I’ll look forward to your advanced video, great content and very informative video, thank you ☺️

    Great beginners video! I do have a few questions. When I'm scanning cards the scanner is leaving 2 very feint roller lines on the cards. I have already removed the roller and these roller lines are still occurring. I have tried putting the card in a perfect-fit sleeve, and it still is leaving the roller lines. I know I could use cards in top loaders and be fine, but just trying to scan either with perfect fit and/or raw, and this issue is occurring. Additionally, does anyone know how to reduce the glare on the plastic sleeve near the edge? Typically this is occurring either at the top or bottom edge of each card I scan. I followed all recommendations on this video. Thanks for any help. TIA!

    • @MontereySportsCards2
      @MontereySportsCards2  6 місяців тому +1

      Hello PureTCG! Thanks for watching the video and asking some questions! There is an option within PaperStream Capture called “Vertical Streaks Reduction” try enabling that, if it’s not already.
      I haven’t dealt with TGC other than a single 50 batch scan, but found no issues with that batch, with Vertical Streaks Reduction enabled.
      Of course also be sure to clean the rollers and scan area with a soft cloth and rubbing alcohol (90%+) and make sure there are no scratches on the glass or lens itself

    • @MontereySportsCards2
      @MontereySportsCards2  4 місяці тому

      What scanner are you using? If it's a flat bed, then it will only have Front Side and you'd have to manually flip it over to scan the back side (while "Front Side" is selected within PaperStream as your only option. If it's the 8170 like in the video, did you download the TWAIN driver @ 2:30? Either way please reply and let me know so we can get to the bottom of this!

      Thanks for the kind words! When I need to scan a red or green back and it doesn't initially pick it up, I simply take it out of the penny sleeve and reserve the card, so that the face/image is facing up and try again. Great video and content, thank you. Did you remove the internal wheel from the scanner? Can you scan cards in top loaders? I recently purchased this scanner. My first attempt to scan a card in a penny sleeve resulted in damaging the card by putting 2 parallel line indentions down the middle of the card. I am doing something wrong but haven’t figured it out yet.

      Hey Mikey, just seeing this reply, so apologize for my delay! Yes I did remove the internal wheel, and yes you can scan Top Loaders. For anything other than naked cards, you need to remove the internal wheel, that's most likely why you had some damage. @@MontereySportsCards2 Thank you for the reply. I removed the wheel and it is scanning top loaders really well. However, the scanner is still damaging naked cards and penny sleeved cards by imprinting/pressing two narrow parallel lines down the center length of the cards. Thank you very much, the linked worked. This is day 3 for me using card dealer pro. One question I have is in card dealer pro under "Pricing and Inventory" why does it require you to put a sale price of .99 cents? Also, what does this sale price mean to me vs. The actual price I set in the ebay template for my auction price or fixed price? Thank you in advance.

    • @MontereySportsCards2
      @MontereySportsCards2  4 місяці тому +1

      @@ashleyhitchon3948 Under "Pricing and Inventory" that 'Price' is what your auction or Buy It Now will be listed before any shipping charges, if any. You need to put a value there, to sell your cards, but you don't need to put .99 cents. You can put anything from 0.01 to 99999.99 if you wish. Just put whatever the value of the item you'd like to sell/list it for would be.
      Also "Sale Price" during the batch listing, would simply add that price to all of your listings in that batch, until or unless you change them before you export your cards.
      For example, if I am listing 50 Brett Favre cards, and I feel the majority are base cards, I'll put the "Sale Price" during the batch listing at 1.99, this way the 50 cards I list already have $1.99 sale price added to them. Then from their during the inspection phase, I can change prices up or down as needed on cards that require it. Hope this helps!
