- Want some mixed media art journaling ideas? Well, this week I'm creating an art journal page with patterned paper and a brush pen. If you watched my art journal page from two weeks or so ago then you would have seen another page that I made at the same time as this one.
Did you see that video? Well if you missed it you can find it here: bit.ly/2sS8ZGh and it is called Abstract Shapes Art Journal Page Tutorial.
I'm linking these two videos up, firstly, because I made them at the same time, and I explain why I do that in my video, and secondly, because they both use some of the same products but they result in two completely different art journal pages.
So I hope it will inspire you and give you some ideas for your next art journal page. If it does don't forget to let me know and share how you get on with these ideas. Just leave me a comment below, I would love to hear from you.
If you enjoy my videos please like them, share them with your friends and subscribe to my channel! Thank you!

I love these pages! And they inspire me! I do tend to over think my art. Sometimes I just need to play. My favorite pen is a black Pitt pen or the Pen+Gear permanent marker at Walmart 2 for 44 cents. Yes 44 cents for 2! I didn't believe it until I found them myself.
Oh wow! That's amazing! I'll keep an eye out for those see if they make it over here to the UK! I'm glad you enjoyed the art have fun with your next project!
Love how it just flows. I spend too much time thinking about things too, I need to just let it flow more I think! Xx
+Ruth Andrews - Crafting While the Baby Naps I'm with you Ruth! Some folks are good at just letting it flow and the rest of us have to practice it 🤣
Your colors and flow are so wonderful! How do you keep the pages from sticking to one another?
This is just awesome, flows beautifully.
Thank you 💜🎨💚
I love this spread!!! I need to try using my stencils this way!! Thanks for sharing! -Chrissie ;-)
+Beautiful Creatives glad you liked it and have fun with it!
Love it! I definitely overthink things whenever I do anything other than cards, so it's lovely to watch your process.
+sharon curtis ha ha! Another other thinker club member! But you don't over think cards Sharon? I don't think I over think them as much as I used to, but I think I do still over think them a bit. There see I'm now over thinking this 🤣
Kim Dellow no, with cards it comes very naturally and I don't think about it at all, but anything else and I definitely do it. I guess because it's more out of my comfort zone.
Great one! I love it!
Thank you 💜
Love your videos so much!!
+P Wolf thank you 💜 I'm glad you are enjoying them!
Love it!!! ~~rita
+Rita Montgomery thank you!
it's awesome...love ur voice...
+swetha arun thank you! Kind of you to say!
Is the journal you are painting in here a repurposed magazine or brochure, or did you create it from junk mail pages yourself? Im new to art journaling, and just purchased a cheap journal that im not happy wirh, but love the idea of recycling or repurposing things that would otherwise be thrown out. Just found your channel and am binge watching ALL your videos. Im addicted!!!!
Thank you! I am glad you've been enjoying my videos! Thanks for watching them! So this is a repurposed brochure or flyer and if you want to see more about what I use as my junk journals then I have a little tour video about them here: bit.ly/2p5rcOj 😁
Bonjour peut on traduire les explications ? Merci thank you
Hi, if you have the captions on then click the setting button (cog shaped icon) you get the option under ‘Subtitles/ cc’ to change the captions to auto-translate into your language. Hope that helps.
Bonjour, si vous avez les légendes, cliquez sur le bouton de réglage (icône en forme de rouage), vous obtenez l'option sous « Sous-titres / cc » pour modifier les légendes à traduire automatiquement dans votre langue. Espoir ça aide.
Overthinking!!!! It is so crippling. I like the idea of several things going on at once to combat it. Only that can also lead to not completing anything, at least in my world.
😂 Oh yes, well that could happen too! 😂
I was just wondering why you wasted your time adding some much back ground art and you just covered it up? It frustrates me. I guess I just don’t understand this process and I’m too much of a perfectionist which isn’t helpful when doing this type of art. I do love your work and your doodling! I don’t understand the purpose of back ground art. And would love to gain a better understanding of its purpose. Thank you.
Jan Balls this is a brilliant question! Thank you Jan. So for this type of artwork I'm building each layer with no plan or idea in my head of an end project or how I want it to look. I suppose I'm using intuition or whatever it is that makes me feel that it is the right thing to do for that moment in time. And there are a few things that go on when you work like this. One of them is that you have to start somewhere and turn off the overthinker in you that needs things to go in just the right place, nothing wrong with that, it is just a different way of working. So as the piece grows you may end up covering up earlier areas. They aren't wasted, they become part of the texture or story of the piece. I really hope that helps. Let me know. Perhaps I should do a video on this? What do you think?
