5 Ways With Background Dies

- My video tutorial today has five of my favourite ways to use background dies in your painting, mixed media, art journaling and card making. I've got plenty of ideas for how you can get the most use out of your large background dies so get your dies out and let's get cutting!
In my video I'm covering how to use your background dies to only cut the surface of layered materials like corrugated cardboard to expose that wonderful corrugated texture in the pattern of your die. You will also find in this video tips and tricks for using the dies to make stamps and texture for your brayers and rollers, just perfect for a whole range of paint projects. Also I am sharing how to use your dies to make your own stencils and how to get great patterns with them using partial die-cutting.
So plenty of inspiration for your next art journal, mixed media or cardmaking project. Let me know if you make anything using these techniques as I would really love to see them. Tag me (@kimdellow) on your social media shares, you can find me via the links below! Or come back here and leave me a link and also let me know what you favourite techniques are too!

Love the circle hack!
Thick (1/4" ) foam sheets make great backing for foam stamps. It's easy to trim, comfortable to hold and completely washable.
Thanks Robin.
Such great ideas. For those without a spare brayer try an empty toilet paper/paper towel tube and the foam die cuts. The toilet paper tube will fit on a paint roller found in many discount or dollar stores.
Great tip Dawne! Thank you!
Thanks for sharing these. I use some of these techniques but hadn't thought of using cardboard or about how to do a partial die. If my DIY paper stencil starts to go south I keep it for use in my journal or projects. Also, acrylic medium/paint will help stiffen them if you want to keep them longer.
Great tricks Susan, thanks for sharing!
Loved the last one ❤️
Thank you Belinda!
Love this! The foam stamps are fabulous and I love them on the brayer. Great inspiration as always! Xx
+Ruth Andrews - Crafting While the Baby Naps ahh thanks Ruth! Yeah, I think the brayer one is my fave too and foam stamps are just the greatest 🤣 so much you can do with them!
Love the stamps from fun foam!!!
Beth Broadway Totally fun technique isn't it Beth? And so easy to do!

Great diy stencil!
+BeautyAndBrainsGirls have fun with your journal page!
I like using plastic sheets that come with different types of packaging to make my stencils.
They can make handy stencils can't they?!
Kim Dellow Indeed. The best part is that there free and reusable. I don't feel guilty when they get so dirty that I want new ones. I just make more.
So true! 😀🎨
Is your cardboard acid free or do you have a way to neutralize the acid? I’m looking for a way to do that.
Hi, I don't know if the cardboard is acid free, I guess not, but I'm only using it for temp thing, not something that will be kept forever and ever, so I am not really worried about it so I can't help I'm afraid.
