Love your free colorful doodling.
Oh you are lovely Cindy! Thank you. Glad you have been enjoying my videos!
I've been an artist for 40 years, working professionally for 20 of them and I find we all can use hints and tips from others. Your ideas are great. Sara
So true Sara! I love learning the different ways we all do things. Are you still working as a professional artist? Tell me more, I'm noisy! 😂
@@KimDellow I've taken a sabbatical from it but starting back. My last venture was glass beadmaking that lasted 15 years. Before that I made pottery, painted in different medias. I did the juried fine arts shows for many years. My work never won the big prize money but always sold.
Thank you for these wonderful tips and inspiration
My pleasure! I hope they help!
very helpful hints, thank you!
I'm glad you found it helpful! 💚
I agree with spending time to improve! I am 2 years in and at last, I feel reasonably confident doing things. I never thought I would ever get there, but I did - All of this was all so new to me, and self taught (thanks to You Tube) and you DO get better!
Ahh this is great. Thank you Helen, so inspiring to hear your story! 💜😍
Good advice. Your doodles would make great stamps or stencils
Diana Trout thank you Diana 😚 😚😚
I definitely could use your advice in learning to draw faces, then hands. It is a struggle. I only started last month.
It can be hard but it will be well worth! Well that's what I tell myself too when I'm struggling 😂
Love your doodling Kim and you shared some great tips ❤️
Nina Ribena thank you! I'm glad you like my doodle and tips, thank you for watching 💖😚
Great tips Kim. I love what you did today such beautiful colors.
Kim Daniel thank you Kim 😚💜
Definitely excellent tips. My biggest issue is finding the time and sticking to it. I’ve just started a new job as well so everything has rather gone to pot. I need to get that schedule back but make sure I do it without feeling like it’s a chore. Instagram - oh Instagram. It used to be great for sharing, but now I struggle with it so much. It’s a constant bombardment and I rarely go on it. Used to love it, but the algorithm changes just killed it for me. You are right. There is no need to share everything. As for me, I’m just working on keeping crafting as much as I can. Nothing more, nothing less! Xx
How is the new job going Ruth? I hope you are settling into to it well! It is the hardest things, so much to do so little time. I think you do just need to step away sometimes. I often find I am having to re-focus and drop jobs and projects that are just getting too burdensome. You have to prioritise the important and forgive yourself for not moving forward on other things. I think it is a good thing, it filters out the noise and lets you concentrate on what you need to do.
Kim Dellow It’s an adjustment after 4 years of full time Mummy job. Now I find though, I’m still doing full time Mummy and working.... hubby is really good at helping, but he works full time too, so can only do bits and pieces. It will adjust to a level I’m happy with eventually! Xx
I think focus and repeat are key for me now. There is so much I want to learn but I also get bored with repeat. I’m really going to have to force myself to repeat but I know it will be worth the effort. It’s funny how hearing tips you may know from someone else can spur you on.
Oh I hear you! I am the worst with repeat. I don't like doing the same thing again, I've no patience for it. But unfortunately repetition works doesn't it?! Sigh!
Great useful tips Kim! You're so right, every day's practice really helps....thanks for reminding and your doodles are lovely! 🌸
Mieke Middelhuis Thank you Mieke! Daily practice is the key isn't it? But it is not easy, I have to remind myself and try to make it a habit 🤣
Tea fixes everything. Even Dr. Who agrees!
Oh yes! Got to agree with that 😂💙
Your tips seem so obvious, but they can't be more true. I often want to jump straight to the big projects without practising and then I'm surprised it doesn't work, but really... practise, practise practise!
Larissa Hageman so true! I do the same! I want to be instantly good at things, even if I've never done them before and forget that they will need work. The other thing I suffer from is letting overwhelm stop me from doing. So I keep having to remind myself of these tips and keep working at it 🤣
Oh yes! The watching endless UA-cam video's and pinterest posts and blog tutorials up to a point that you don't know where to start yourself and then be afraid to even start. I Always try and keep the two seperate. Not watching video's or posts before starting projects :D
Loved all your advise Kim. I'm working on faces and try and draw/sketch a face a day. Not very good but getting better. Your comment about social media is right on. I stopped posting on Instagram months ago because I felt it was like trying to "Keep up with the Jones'" syndrome. I just got tired of it and now I have a lot less stress...I just play, if I want. take care ~~rita
That's brilliant Rita. Have you looked back at your first ones? You have probably learnt so much since those!
I do look back at those first attempts and just laugh. I have come a long way baby!! ~~rita
This is a lovely way of doodling,,. I think one of the things I MUST do is stop watching so many videos lol,,, I think that’s a good idea I’d like to try that , like your doodling, but I just switch onto the next one I like the look of then never get anything done, ,,.
Ahh focusing when there are just so many ideas you want to try and things you want to learn is really hard isn't it?!
That doodling is so yummy! Loved it and yes, your tips were worth listening to aswell. Great job Kim. XTibbyX
Ahh thanks Tibby! 💜
Thanks for the advice. I am hoping to work on adding faces that I've created to my art journaling this year. Not necessarily realistic, I'll settle for recognizable!
Wonderful! I hope you have lots of fun with it! I'm sure it will be gorgeous!
Thanks for the tips! My goal is to learn to draw - I've got a book to follow and a sketchbook to work in and now I just need to schedule the time to do it (which is the hardest part for me!).
I'm with you! It is the hardest! Start with really small chunks of time like 5-10 min and do quick, loose sketches to get into the habit and then it doesn't have to be this big thing that feels harder to start and harder to get into the schedule! Good luck.
I'm not familiar with the type of paint you're mentioning could you explain a little more?
So I'm using gouache paint in this video and I go into a little bit more detail about it in this video: bit.ly/2J3eNZm It is a nice paint to use if you like matte finishes and strong colours. There are two types, one contains the same binders as watercolor paint and so is workable even after it is dry. The other contains the same binders as acrylic paint, these are usually called 'Acryl', 'Acrylic' or 'Acryla' gouache and these will stay put once dry like acrylic paint does! I hope that helps!
