5 Ways To Use Stencils On An Art Journal Page

- I challenged myself to come up with 5 ways to use stencils on my art journal page today. I am using the StencilGirl Alpha Drips and Number Drips stencils designed by Seth Apter to make a background for this art journal page. So I am sharing a couple of tried and tested stencil techniques that we all know and love plus a couple of my personal favourite techniques in this video today.

Love the video. Tfs. My fave method is applying a watercolour wash and lifting up paint through a stencil with a damp cloth.

Stunning! Thanks for all the tips too. I love the washable sponge trick, not only to save money but also for the environment. So many of our craft supplies are a disaster in that arena. (40 billion babywipes and makeup sponges later!) ;) I appreciate all of the reuse it tips the very most.
Oh you are so right. I think about it all the time but it is so hard to an eco-friendly artist. I totally recycle where I can and in fact we have stopped using those household sponges and are now using compostable ones. But I haven't tried them in the studio yet, that is my next experiment!

PS, I don't use stencils as often as I should but I generally just use them with texture paste. You have got me thinking now!

This is beautiful. I usually apply paint or ink with a sponge. I haven't tried the gel medium resist, but now I really want to try it out. Thank you for the inspiration! Tfs, Fia

Nice informative video ...one of my favourite things to do with a stencil is to stamp through it mainly with texture.text and script work well too.

Sponging and drawing are my favourite techniques with stencils. Gel medium resist is new to me:-)
