The X-T3 is literally the perfect camera for me. I just wish they will add F-log assist, that's it! After all these years, I am still falling in love with it.

To be slightly more specific, I think the major difference between an SLR/DSLR and XT-3 is adjusting the dials shows you the changes through the electronic view finder. Even expensive DSLRs cant do that, you adjust settings, take a shot and its black, or white. To me, seeing the changes in real time Is part of what makes it magic (and so good for beginners).

After years of shooting film, medium and large format, I've searched for a camera with the film esthetic, both in function and in form. I chose the X-T3. I'm really loving the results. A brilliant piece of kit!

I just bought one yesterday - I always hated cameras but then I did a project where I had to use a camera and the camera provided to me was an XT3...I literally fell in love with it and with photography and it made video so much fun to do. So when the project finished I missed the XT3 so much I just went and bought my own. LOVE THIS CAMERA. The price is good, the photos are great. The number 3 you talked about was literally me - I learned all of that for real entirely from the physical dials on the camera.

Love my XT3, and the main reason I bought it was the simple layout of ISO, shutter speed and aperture. Its old school thinking in a super easy modern design, and is really rejuvenated my interest in photography. Love your channel, thanks for keeping it honest and real...... and fun.

Here, Here. I love my X-T3. It has kept ,y interest in Photography going all through the pandemic and before. Being severely sight impaired, its dials have meant I can easily control this Marvel and lets me continue a hobby I have enjoyed for over forty years. It fuels my desire to try new techniques.
Oh yes, and Pal2tech provides the best help and advice when I need it. So thank you too.
Cheers, Richard from England, UK (Across the water).

One of the deciding factors on why I purchased the camera was just the sheer joy of using it like the old SLRs with all the dials on top. With most of the DSLRs and mirrorless cameras you don't get as immersed in your photography as you do with Xt3 or xt4, with those dials, and the Fujifilm simulations are just great. it is just a fun camera to use overall with great image quality.

I upgraded from my X-T1 to the X-T3 in November. It's a fantastic camera! I knew the video would be an improvement over the X-T1 but I'm blown away by just how much better it looks, even in 1080p. And I've finally switched over to back button focusing. I just didn't vibe with bbf on the X-T1, but it really fits my process on the X-T3.

Yes, I've learnt "old-school" photography on the X-T3 and I will always love FujiFilm for that. Everything you said about it being the best learning camera is spot on. I think you understand it better than Fujifilm. In the past I've briefly picked up someone's camera, or longer borrows, with P A S M on the dial, and essential fundamental values hiding inside menus where I can't even figure out how to turn the display on. PASM doesn't speak. The A, which must be Auto NEVER worked right for me too ... ha ha ha. And the M for movies, didn't work. As soon as I started using my X-T3, the dials just do plain-speak. The X-T3 is a human whisperer. If I wanted it to be fully Auto, easy, obviously that would be A, A, A. Hey, this Auto works! If I wanted to control a physical fundamental, it's right there. If I want a fundamental to be Auto, its right there to directly change immediately. And everything can be directly seen, even when off ,... to think and play with. It's not just for beginners, it's for everybody's joy. I don't ever want to move away from it. This is it. I don't know why every Fujifilm camera doesn't have all these dials present and as separate dials just like the X-T3. It's should be like a silversmiths hallmark for Fujifilm. Every Fuji lens should have an aperture dial!! The XC lenses should have a plastic ring (or buttons or something.) After the X-T3, I wanted the smallest X-mount camera to be always with me, so I got an X-A7. The X-A7 has been described as Fuji's entry level camera to transition phone users to photography. How? That will never happen. Its kit lens has no aperture ring! There's no ISO dial. Most tragic, there's no shutter dial. Ok, in some PASM settings, an unmarked shutter button ring will change the shutter speed. A beginner can't learn on this. I like its size & weight to be the camera that's with me when I'm out to do other things in case something pops up, so I persevere with the PASM. Also, I usually don't want a priority mode, per se. I want the opposite, I usually just want one parameter as Auto, and PSAM can't offer that!! PASM is a dud. If it wasn't for the X-T3, I would never learn photography on this "beginner" camera. The X-A7 PASM dial also has scene selection auto modes (with JPG out only). A beginner wouldn't persevere with the A S M, and quite frankly, a phone probably does the scene selection shots better. So a beginner would not get into photography on this camera. They would try it, it would seem like a gimmick, or make them feel like a failure, and they would go back taking photos on their phone, saying cameras are rubbish. That's why I say You know it better than FujiFilm. I've heard somewhere FujiFilm want to go towards the PASM model more for future releases. That would be a disaster. Thanks for another great UA-cam.

4:50 you are so right about that, thanks for pointing that out! Having the exposure triangle right in front of you as phyical buttons is such an enjoyable user experience.
I’m in photography for like 10 years and used and owned plenty of cameras, Nikon, Canon and also film cameras like Konica, Zenza Bronica etc. and I always loved the fully manual control of the old film cameras.
The problem I had with most digital cameras is, at least one of the most important settings (Shutter speed, ISO, aperture) is hidden in a menu or there is one button to press first, ISO most of the time. This is a real pain. One month ago I switched to Fujifilm and I was mindblown how fun digital photography can be 😊

I bought a new X-T3 a few days ago for 900 euro body only. Slapped a 35mm F2 on it and I can see why all of the reviewers praise this camera so much. Pictures come out super sharp, low noise and the color science is just amazing. Thank you Pal2Tech, it's because of your review and follow up videos on the X-T3 that I bought the Fuji.

Sold most of my Nikon gear in 2019 and bought a X-T3. Love it! It is a fun camera to use. Reminds me of the old Minolta X-700 I had back in the '80s. Fully agree with the points you made. One other important issue for me: size and weight. The X-T3 is a camera you can carry with you all day long without breaking your back or shoulders.

Minolta, Olympus, you don't hear too much about them when people talk about film cameras. They were around just like Canon and Nikon and were great cameras back then. I agree Chris I’ve had an XT3 for 3 years now and I’ve learned so much about the exposure triangle using it. I’ve only just started using it for video (Thanks for the videos on this too) so starting my learning curve all over again. There have been times with video that the flip out screen on the XT4 would have been useful for framing when I’m shooting alone but my plan is to get a spreader portable monitor soon to deal with that.

I bought it 3 years ago and it was my best decision about photo gear. I totally agree about the last point and the feeling with the triangle of exposure and each ring. I've done so much progress with this camera. I'm just inside my scenes with it and I enjoy it so much. I do a lot of hiking and it is not a heavy camera. Even if I buy a new Fuji X mount camera in the coming years, I will keep it as a second camera. Impossible to sell my xt3! And last point, this camera makes people come and ask questions about it! I had a lot of great photography discussions with people curious about my camera :)

I’m also not a fan of the flippy screen the one on the t3 is perfect and the ergonomics are superb. Hopefully the t5 will be more of an upgrade for me.

Hi, This was the first video of yours I’ve seen and it definitely won’t be the last. A friend of my wife had posted on instagram that he has an XT3 and the pictures he took were very impressive so I googled XT3 and your video looked the most relevant. If I did not already have a Canon EOS 80D with several lenses and a Powershot G7 X mark III, the XT3 would have been a very tempting option.
I like the way you described the cameras features and usability in plain English while still giving enough detail to answer most questions we would have asked.

XT3 is an excellent camera body even in 2022. I personally love that style of LCD more than the one on the XT4 for stills. One thing that bugs me though, users won’t be able to save white balance color shift individually for each film simulation. That can be easily fix via firmware update but Fujifilm didn’t get around that.

I accidentally wrote this comment on your video about the Mac firmware problems, and so I am re-posting it here. Sorry about that. I sold my Canon 5DIII 2 years ago and bought an XT3. I haven’t been as happy about photography since my Nikon film days. I love this camera. I have the 16mm 1.4, 35 f2, 33 1.4, 16-80 and 55-200. I’m thinking of adding the 90 f2. I always liked primes over zooms. I’m primarily into travel photography with all that entails - a bit of landscape, architecture, people/street and family. This summer I will be traveling to Greece and Ethiopia with my family. I’m thinking of taking the 16, 33 and 55-200. But I want to get a second body so I can have the 16 on one and the 33 on the other, as they are my most used lenses, and so I’m not constantly taking lenses on and off and exposing the sensor to dirt and the lens mount on the camera to extra wear and tear. I’m about to order another XT3 body (new for $999). But before I do, I’d like your input. Would that be my best bet or should I be thinking of say an XT30II or XE4 instead? I could fit any of them along with my XT3 and the mentioned lenses into my Billingham camera bag. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Bought mine in September of 2018 and still love it, for all the reasons you mentioned. Have never been as excited about any camera since I bought my first film SLR back in 1980. In addition to the superb Fuji 2.8/16-55 I ordered it with, I also use a lot of M42 vintage lenses for landscape and architecture, also with tiltshift adapters. The only update I would like to see is the lens menu option. Wish they would up the firmware to include the lens naming feature the X-T4 sports.

Yes I agree PTT. I bought myself a beautiful black body X-T3 for my 62nd birthday recently ( an upgrade from my Xpro-1 - which I love) and I can't believe the technology and sheer power of this little beauty. Only thing is, there's so much to learn with this new camera. All good fun though. Great video and thank you as always for your work. :)

The XT3 is great. On my list, I would have mentioned the great EVF that will encourage people to use it, and a small con being the grip for users with larger hands. Great camera though and great colors!

Well, no surprise here with me! I migrated to the XT-3 from the NikonD810 in 2018. The transition was extraordinary! I said it then and I say it now...the XT-3 is the best camera I have ever had my hands on and it, probably, will be the last camera I will ever have or need. Thx Cris, you were instrumental in those early years for me and my XT-3 and even just 2 weeks ago you taught me something new!!! (I even review some of the old videos just to refresh my knowledge!)

Great video as usual. I'm a Fujifilm shooter (X-T20). You briefly mentioned the possible transition from phone to these mirrorless cameras. In your opinion what would compel someone to make the switch? We photographers think we know why cameras are better than phones, but is that another video topic?

Wanted the XT4 for the IBIS but purchased the 3 used because of a good deal on Craigslist with the 18-55 lens. I am photocentric so this body works for me. Having used IBIS on Olympus and Panasonic makes me mourn the loss of IBIS. Yet when I purchased a used smaller camera I went with the XT30 vs. the XS10 because of the buttons. Can’t believe I chose another body without IBIS but there you are.
Consider this. The XT3 and XT4 are like the XH2. One body is photocentric and the other videocontric. In this case, as you point out, with the same sensor and engine. Do I miss IBIS? Yes. Do I care about the flippy vs. tilty screen? No. Glad I have the XT3 but suspect the XT4 would have made me happier. Again, as you suggest, the $400 premium of the XT4 drove me toward the XT3. Both bodies are great and you can’t make a bad decision choice between the 3 or 4.

For me, I would (and probably will eventually) have an X-T3 as a backup camera for gimbal work. But if I had to choose 1 camera to get for $1100, it would be the $999 X-S10. IBIS is simply as important as colour right now. And I'd sacrifice both weather sealing and dual card slots to have it.

Thanks for another full-energy fun video. I upgraded from X-T2 to X-T3 since its first released. I'm still using X-T3 for my birds photography hobby every weekend. It has never failed and never freeze. I recently got a Canon R5. While Canon has a terrific bird's eyes auto focus, it froze many times in the field (firmware 1.5). My trusty friend Fuji X-T3 still comes out to safe the day. 😁

As a new hobbyist photographer I bought the XT-3 in December of 2019 for the reason you stated: I believe it is the best camera for learning how to “do” the exposure triangle. Two years later, I do not feel compelled to buy the XT-4 (except when using 16-55mm f 2.8 w/out IBIS) and will wait to see what 2022 brings for X series introductions or improvements.

The last point you made was very important! At this point, the X-T3 reminds me of when I first decided to learn about interchangeable lens cameras by getting a used Canon 70D in 2017. It has all the features you need to be blown away by the technology as you learn but not so limited that you'll start looking for better cameras right away. All at an accessible price point (relatively speaking--photography is one expensive hobby). It will still be relevant for new and intermediates even after the release of an X-T5 and beyond. It was just so advanced for its time!

I went from a Nikon D7000 to an XT3 towards the end of 2019. It's the most brilliant camera imaginable. I use mine mostly for taking horse racing photos. The auto-focusing is so fast and the images pin-sharp. I did find the menus a bit tricky at first, but once mastered they are fairly easy to use. I can't see me ever getting another camera. I've also found your tips - that are not covered in the manual - very useful.

For me, the flip out screen makes no sense!
That type of screen is superior for video, while the X-T3 one is better for stills. For video there's the X-S10 and the X-H1 and future X-H2, so they should've kept the X-T3 screen on the X-T4.
Also, moving the remote jack to the left side and putting stupid flappy ports instead of the removable port of he T3 was a big mistake. More than once I though of going back tot he X-T3...

    • @SRSmassiva

I do videos. I can tell you that the flip out screen helps only v-loggers and it bothers very much everyone else.
It's off centre, on the way with the cables, the rig and gimbal.

I agree. The most annoying aspect of the X-T4. The X-H series should have been the video focussed hybrid and the X-T series the stills hybrid. The flippy screen on the X-T4 makes no sense.

Have to disagree with that; my first camera with a fully articulating screen was a Canon IS S3 and have preferred that type of screen since...it allows me to get photos from odd angles without uncomfortable body positions/contortions, plus when using the EVF or when the camera is packed away that screen is safely facing the camera body.
