    The older the nut the better the taste, i'm from the Caribbean and as a child going to the beach we used to run all over the beach to find them and try and get the oldest looking ones as we could, they taste the best.

    I swear coconuts are so misunderstood, even for tropical kids! I had kids drawing the nut part of the fruit GROWING on the tree XD
    And every year, we will get new students who will do the same. I think your video would be the first lesson in class from now.

    Coconut is called " the tree of which every part is useful" - trunk, branches, husk, shell of the nuts etc...and the coconuts can be used in various stages of maturity and as you saw even when it is sprouted. Also if you are forced to cut down your tree, the soft heart where the leaves are sprouting from is edible, and it doesnt stop bearing fruit once it reaches maturity ie there are maybe ten bunches of nuts in various stages of development on the tree continuously

    1960 Born in New York City New York. Left New York in 1985. Moved here moved there looking for my what is life. 2016 still looking for my life. After three years of looking at sweet natural living (loving everything you do, eat, wear, look) I have come to respect you. I love you. You gave me the will to live the life. October 2016 I will be living off the land in Puerto Rico. 5 acres up in the mountains eating fruits, sleeping in a hut, drinking rain water. I have God and you to thank. If you are ever in Puerto Rico I welcome you into my sanctuary. If it is possible for us to communicate to exchange personal information to keep in touch would be great. Come October I will no longer have the internet, cell phone or any 21st century means of communication. I want to keep in touch with you. How? Up to you if you wish. You will always be welcome in my hut.

      The longing is worth it :) They are absolutely delicious! We were finding them all over the beach on Koh Chang when we were there...I think most beaches that are not "cleaned up"/maintained and/or "de-nutted" for safety reasons (coconuts fall), have sprouters all over the place! Another thing, the mature coconuts on the ground, pre sprouting, are also delicious. They are less sweet than young ones, but more salty and slightly oily. Some of the ones we found had a liter of water in them!

    • @victorbigdipper
      @victorbigdipper 9 років тому

      Definitely! It's good stuff. And the water has lots of minerals, it's especially interesting because of it's sodium content, which is one of the main deficiencies I think people experience when not eating enough greens. Good to have another substantial sodium source!

    Although I live in a land whose designated climate is 'subtropical', I had no idea whatsoever about eating sprouted coconuts! Thanks to you IRIE Mon, I learned something new, so I guess my deal here, in this land where ponderosa pines live side by side with coconut palms and in harmony with the native scrub(prickly pear, other cacti and the mesquite tree)is to go to the food terminal and buy a whole coconut(with the husk intact, leave it in the sun for a month or so, and as soon as I see a sprout(at least a foot length in size) then I will open it up and enjoy this spongy treat, salty, sweet with the oily texture of coconut oil from the sides,....something totally different and so DELICIOUSLY IRIE!!! :D
