Although the information on the Dominion war is pretty solid there is one thing wrong you said Shanzan was left to be a slave after the plan concerning him was abandoned He wasn't consigned to slavery he was in actually consigned to the dilithium mines of Remus and left to die but this was before he fought on the side of the remans in the Dominion war what happened to him between the end of the war and the assassination of the Romulan Senate is mostly unknown.
I did notice that there was no mention of Reman involvement in the Dominion war in the video even though it was mentioned in Star Trek Nemesis that the Romulus used the Remans as frontline troops rather snarkerly refered to as cannon fodder.

The one part that was missed was the most glorious last stand in Star Trek history. 1 old bird of prey vs 10 Dominion warships. The final battle of Kirk's nemesis, Kor the Dahar Master. This was a major blow to the Dominion war effort as it allowed General Martok, the greatest Klingon battle commander, to survive. Worf also survived because of Kor's bravery, thus ensuring that Martok would take over the Klingon Empire and assure a more cooperative alliance. I think we can all agree, that without Kor the Dahar Master, the war would have most likely been lost.

I had never, *ever* given consideration to *any* Star Trek series until I met my wife. She insisted we go through DS9. It turned into that BG skit on Portlandia. I had some flex time I needed to use within the month. Took it, and over a week, we had a staycation and finished the series.
From there, I watched every other series, then every movie. Some not some great, but most material amazing works of sci-fi.
Still though, DS9 stands far ahead, possibly due in part to good memories with the Mrs, but assuredly in larger part to the awesomeness of the series.

Has anyone ever wondered which constellations the other empires would appear in as seen from Earth? We know that the galactic core is in Saggitarius, so it seems to me that if you look at the galactic map, assuming that Earth was in the bottom in the Alpha quadrant, close to the Beta quadrant border, then:
The Klingons would be in the Virgo area
The Romulans would be in either Libra or Scorpio
The Bajorans would be somewhere between Cassiopeia and Perseus
The Cardassians would be in Cygnus
But that's just me. I always wonder about weird little things like that.

@Cian McCabe one of the big problems with discussions like this is that track does not seem to give us reliable maps in any Canon sources. What maps have been provided in various books and stuff directly contradict many lines in the shows. For example, in "in the pale moonlight" they are talking about how Dominion chips are crossing through romulan territory to attack the federation behind their lines, but in this map (which is very similar to most naps that I see people using) that couldn't be possible considering where romulan space is compared to Dominion space... Unless they had taken enough territory in between, but if they had cut off such a large chunk of the federation for the rest that presumably would have been brought up in dialogue at some point...not to mention that the federation pretty much loses the war immediately at that point.

Great review of the Dominion War. The writers took a chance doing this on DS9 and not making it just two episodes but span the rest of the series. It was a prescience in television and changed it for all time. The Star Trek writers today wish they could come up with something this good. • @brummyuk-d6f
      @brummyuk-d6f 4 місяці тому

Makes total sense. You don't want your flagship on the front lines, if they are destroyed it would be a devastating blow to moral across the Federation as well as losing one of your best ships. Better to use the Flagship of the Federation as a show of strength when engaging in diplomacy with other empires. Remember, the Federation was desperately looking for support during the war, so much so they even allowed a race that had only just developed warp drive into the Federation.
Picard is much better at diplomacy than any other Captain, so best to use him and his ship for what he is best at. The Enterprise is just too valuable an assets to risk losing on the front lines.

If I recall correctly it was leading the effort to liberate betazed. But I think that was only covered in novels or something,

As someone with only a passing remembrance or experience of many of the older / real StarTrek Original & Canon series, this was much appreciated.
(I've seen a fair bit of TNG and TOS it's not 100%, with less of DSN.)

It says a lot about the advanced story-telling of DS9 that one story arc takes no less that 25 minutes to discribe fully.
    Suck it Voyager(!)

@@lynxharpthorn7764in all fairness Voyager had some well written episodes - primarily around the Doctor but other stand alone episodes, "Blink of an Eye" for one. It's a shame that Voyager did not do more multi-episodes stories or the good episodes would have been great!

@@castojr9704 Yeah. I really liked many of the doctor heavy episodes. And the "year of hell" was pretty good. My favorite Trek is Ds9. People say that it was darker but I just remember a lot of voyager episodes being crazy dark. Like when the doctor loses his daughter for the sake of realness, or when the entire voyager ship is actually that weird copy-cat organism thing, where they dissipate before being able to talk to the real voyager. Almost too dark

@@lynxharpthorn7764 I actually forgot about those darker Voyager episodes - yeah they were disturbing which is what made them more impactful - but yes almost certainly too dark! Year of Hell was nicely done ( excellent casting ). DS9 is my fav Trek too! I think that the character of Garak had the most interesting episodes. Also the battle scenes during the Dominion War were spectacular - sometimes I just watch those episodes just for the special effects.

Great job very well done. Thank you for your comprehensive breakdown and by including many details made it an exemplary dissertation. Really enjoyed it especially the quote from the spy. Really excellent!

This is pretty good overall, although like Garak in the series, it ignores that Senator Vreenak and the criminal were not the only two to die in that situation: so did Vreenak's guards/aides/pilot/etc. Also, I don't remember any mention of Section 31 and the morphogenic virus disease affecting the Founders, until the mention of Odo curing the Female Founder. And it turned out that the Prophets hadn't merely "accepted" Sisko as their "Emissary:" They had actually created him to start with, just for that purpose.
And also, there was no mention of the Pah Wraiths throughout the whole thing.

One of my favorite Star Trek characters was Garak. Everything he said was a lie so much of what he said was true. I used to think little of Sisko but he has risen in my estimation over the years.
