I read a series of Star Trek novels written by William Shatner that V'ger from the first motion picture film was assimilated by the Borg.
Why did Piccard bother to have his engineering crew reverse-engineer that temporal vortex instead of return the same way Kirk did? Fortunately, I'm talking about the William Shatner one. And at least make a Shorts video explaining why none of the Federation seems to have bio-ships like 8472!
At the conceptual and aesthetic levels, I think the Borg might be one of the best villains (threats?) ever conceived in science fiction.

The scene right before, when the Borg is modifying his parts and a tear rolls down his face… that’s scary. Imagine being a human, now, lost in space somewhere in this huge Borg cube, being mutilated in such a way… eerie…
The scariest part is, there could very well be a borg civilization somewhere out there, looking to assimilate civilizations they come across

The weird part, if you lived on a Borg Cube as a Human, the Borg would never bother you as long as you don't makes waves. In fact, I think I'd rather be assimilated than ever work at Amazon ever again. Working there, now that's real torture!!! Pure mental and physical abuse. In fact, I believe the Borg Queen treats her drones better than Amazon treats it's workers...

No, see being a Borg would probably be about the same as being an Amazon employee, the only difference is now that you're a Borg you don't care that it's boring. That's probably what Bezos is planning, to 'assimilate' all his employees. That way once your shift is done, you can just wait in your recharge pod.

Old style automatic rifles are effective at fighting borg drones. Yet no one thought about keep some in the ships armory in case the borg boarded the ship.
Ever played Xenonauts? You start with mid-late 20th century gunpowder weapons, and research your tech off of salvaged alien gear… starting from crude chunks of propelled metal and working your way up. You can get lasers, even plasma guns…
The top tier?
The top tier is fast moving chunks of metal again. Just gauss instead of gunpowder. Kinetic energy is HARD to argue with. XD

The borg are by far the most interesting character ever created throughout all platforms of entertainment.
The way they were ruthless, ambiguous, terrifying and brutal, complicated and simple.
The way they could assimilate entire worlds in a flash if worthy or a threat, yet completely indifferent to the point you could literally beam on their ship and they would just completely ignore you.
They also showed signs of emotion and curiosity with their fasccination and almost religious view of omega.
The born Queen was the most fascinating since she to me seemed like the next step in borg evolution mixing humanoid wants and stifled emotion with cybernetic precision.
The borge are nothing compared to anything Warhammer 40k

I kinda sorta agree. Their introduction was first rate actual sci fi. Unfortunately the Borg suffered from the 'too many cooks in the kitchen" problem. The franchise started going downhill went they started comparing the Borg to ants, bees, and other social insects and made a queen Borg to control the Hive. It doesn't work that way in nature. Or at least here on Earth.
What really got me was that the Borg were basically Terminators. Yeah, from that movie of the same name. Just more squishier parts and harder to kill.
The original humanoids wanted the peoples of the galaxy to come together to form a galactic community and society to better one another and further advance our lives

@@benbacon7654 The Borg are the future of the Federation traveling back in time. Apart from the Federation using soft force (you don't have to join but not joining will be bad for you because the enemies of the Federation will use force and not accept your cultural idiosyncrasies) and the Borg use hard force. Basically both say become part of our community or die.

I like to believe the Borg originated in the same way the Cooperative operated, perhaps:
- They wanted to share experiences, and eventually forced new members to join.
- They wanted to improve themselves, and then saw increasing their number as the greater good for everyone.
- They were trying to mitigate crime or improve order by sharing memories.
- They were striving to be more efficient or have more conveniences in life.

I always assumed they had been developing for thousands of years contained on their homeworld. Perhaps even created their collective consciousness but lacked warp drive, and eventually a well meaning explorer ship found their world and landed to make first contact with this highly interesting social structure, but were immediately assimilated, giving the borg warp drive technology and allowing them to leave their world and they began assimilating nearby worlds. This was the point the Vaadwaur became aware of them.

I seen something on TV earlier that reminded me of the Star Trek Borg... So I UA-cam it and I've watched a few videos telling the history of the Borg... This one was phenomenal, good job making your video
If you come into contact with the borg, you are screwed. All you can do is put that phaser to your chest and put it on maximum, because would you rather save your soul or your body. Since the borg take both, you have to sacrifice the body to save the soul.
Nah they take your body and subconscious mind but they leave your conscious mind in a matrix-like utopia within the hive mind, where you can live in bliss forever and steer the collective. Very democratic. Borg are kinda nice.

I think I remember reading that the Borg were conceived as the new big bad for the federation because the Ferengi were seen largely as a joke.
Nobody could take the Ferengi as a serious threat.

Saying seven of nine "landed" the board cube is and interesting way to say that she got wrapped up in space flowers and crashed it into the side of the planet.
crash landing is still technically landing... as long as there is any land left afterwards, at least.

The entire concept of the Borg took a huge nose dive the second the "Queen" made an appearance. I don't think the smooth brained people who took over the writing of the scripts understood the concept of the Borg. All they seem to understand is "drone". A true collective needs no leader. They don't even have to force you to join. To truly be part of such a massive collective obliterates anyone's tiny sense of self. It's an opportunity to be a part of something God like. It's the closest any organic being can come to immortality. Your body is abandoned, merely becoming organic material. In the Borg's eyes this is a precious gift they are bestowing on species that have earned it. It's an ego death to evolve to a divine state. I don't think most people are smart enough to even remotely comprehend this sort of existence. All they can think is "bee hive".

What's so scary about The Borg, is the fact that they kinda make sense. Of course they are devoid of the emotion we consider fundamentally important, but they are playing the long game. Being ruthless in the drive of knowledge.

This video is awesome ! I have always been more of a Star Wars guy, but have watched a good deal of Star Trek also. My knowledge of Star Trek lore is pitiful compared to Star Wars. The Borg have always intrigued me though. Seeing all this information makes me want to watch every series end to end now. Thanks for putting this together !

I wanted to watch this, but I decided it was better to rewatch all of the episodes first. So I watched all seasons of next generation, DS nine, and Voyager in order to properly enjoy the video.
I believe I know the EXACT origin of the Borg... (IMO) it's Doctor Who!
An inspiration from mixing the Cybermen characters, with the Daleks! The Borg Queen is their Davros. For any fan/viewer of the first 7 Doctors, (William Hartnell - Sylvester McCoy) you see MANY things in Doctor Who that Star Trek TNG may have gotten MUCH of their material inspiration from.
With the Borg, 1 example is the episode 'I, Borg' when Picard questioned does he have the right to wipe out all the Borg by inserting the geometric virus program into the Borg collective, through Hugh, (3 of 5), but ultimately deciding he didn't. Very similar to 'Genesis of the Daleks' series (Tom Baker's) Doctor: "If I just touch these 2 wires together and the Dalek's never existed... do I have the right to wipe out an entire species from existence?!" also deciding he didn't. Then again in "Descent" (TNG) when Picard get's a spanking from Adm. Necchayev for not destroying the Borg back when he had the chance with Hugh.
But believe whatever you like!
I always got a Cybermen vibe from them, but much more scary vibe.

You don’t want to go down this road my friend,cuz Dr Who is a complete rip off of Rip Hunter. There where evil cyborgs in space before the cyber men,and honestly nothing is truly original in fiction,just different ways to present it.
@Michael Perez You can't claim "rip off" in one sentence, and rip offs don't exists in the next. Kinda defeating your own argument. Also Dr. Who started in '63, the Rip Hunter (comic book) came out in '65.
@Michael Perez Wait... now in another source it's saying Rip Hunter premired in '59. But it seems Rip is more HG Wells than Dr. Who. And I'm saying the episode material from TNG is a direct pull from Dr. Who, not which "timelord" vs "time traveler" came first.

They should make a series of how the borg slowly became the borg. Like their civilzation before they set out to conquer. The ships they first had. Their motivations for assimilating other races. How their technology evolved. What was the main race that pushed them vastly ahead of most other races. How did they conquer the first race, etc. That would be cool
The Borg did not scare me when I first saw them on TNG. But they gave me nightmares when I saw them on First Contact

Before The White Walkers, there was... The Borg.
The borg had a weakness and that weakness was that they could be hacked and given other info.
Now after Picard season 3 has ended, it’s sad that the producers ignored not one, but two possibilities to bring the Borg to Jupiter.
In season 1, there were the wormhole with the technotentacles, which looked a lot like Borg Justin Red light
Then in season 2, another wormhole appears, and the jurati collective tried to prevent whatever is coming through to come out.
Then in season 3, the fireworks looked very often like opening wormholes, and this could’ve been the perfect chance and entrance for the Borg. But instead they hid the Borg for ages in Jupiter with a never seen before queen
The super cube could’ve been wipe the entire federation fleet on its wonkiest by mining Jupiter
At least they brought it to some kind of end, but my guess is: the jurati and the original Borg are still out there, even in the 32nd century
The Borg are the creepiest villains in StarTrek. I'm glad they ran into a certain species in the space in between.
The Borg home world is called BorgBerg.
The first Borg was created himself (added components to his person). His name is Steve.
The next few Borg were volunteers as Steve couldn't assimilate...yet.

At least 'futile' is pronounced with the 'i' in it here!! It's not 'fyootul' as some say it! (Biased British... !) OK I admit everyone's accent is valid from their own point of view and it just takes some getting used to for everyone else. I'm just glad Data sounds like 'dater' not 'darta'! At least some of the Star Trek script keeps the British fans happy.

When Pickards enterprise first encountered the Borg, they made a big thing about telling us how indestructible the Borg cubes were made to be, no central power source (no engine room) instead Borg cubes have smaller power sources spread out throughout the ship, back up systems everywhere, and even if you can get past all of that, the Borg cubes were meant to be still able to fight at maximum capacity after being over 70% damaged, on top of that, nano bots that can repair any part of the cube that might be damaged, the ability to adapt, the laser cutter. What the hell happened? They went from being an unstoppable force, with just one cube being able to destroy an entire federation fleet, to exploding wrecks in just one shot, and then just one federation ship able to not only resist, but destroy. How? And why? I liked them much better when they were an unstoppable force. They would have made a much scarier opponents in the final episodes than the stupid dominion.
That's what always happens when an author writes themselves into a corner with an unstoppable threat. Asspulls.
I mean if you watched the show all those questions are answered.
V’ger conceptually was very similar to the Borg, it would be cool if there was a connection between them
