In 2387, a supernova caught the Romulan Star Empire by complete surprise, blowing up their homeworld, because unlike the Federation, Romulans don't have astronomers, and couldn't figure out that their star was at the end of its life, and they were not capable of evacuating themselves. Afterall, they are just a Star Empire, that controls a huge chunk of the Beta Quadrant and parts of the Alpha Quadrant, that's all. Makes perfect sense.

I think Picard had a very big missed opportunity to bring back an old enemy that would have made a lot of sense. When watching the first few episodes and hearing of the attack on Utopia Planetia as well as Bruce's attempt at creating his own Soong type android, I thought what if he didn't just use B4 as a template. The theory was that he attempted to bring Data back using B4 but when he learned that B4 couldn't handle Data's complex programming and was a bad template for his androids he began looking for something else. It was then he decided to search for the only other soong type android in existence, Lore. When he found Lore he was dismantled but his positronic brain was still fully intact. He took Lore back to the Dastrom institute and began to run several analysis on him. He discovered how to make his own version of the positronic brain but couldn't figure out the programming. It was then that he took the risk in copying Lore's programming and altering it to try and remove the violent and homicidal areas of Lore's program. This seemed to work and he began mass production of the synths using the same altered program. Unknown to Bruce the programming wasn't completely altered and remnants of Lore remained, spread across every synth Bruce created. During the evacuation of Romulus the programming that had been hidden inside the synths was now awakened, causing them to attack Utopia Planetia. Bruce kept the fact he used Lore a secret and fled with Lore's programming in an attempt to discover what went wrong. When Picard finally arrives on the synth world he encounters Lore who has been reassembled and imitates Data until Picard notices something wrong, causing Lore to reveal himself. He layed down his plan for conquest, insert classic villain plot here, and it's up to Picard and his team to stop him which they do. This could either go one of 2 ways, the first is the boring route where Lore is destroyed for good this time and everyone is cheary, or the second where he escapes and returns in a later season. Personally I would have preferred this over what we got in the real season, it would have been unexpected and having Brent Spiner return in a role I thought was brilliant would have just been amazing.
A very well researched history of the Star Trek Universe. Early Earth history, history of the 20th through 31st century. Earth Government, the formation of the UFP, StarFleet, Sector 31 and Temporal Police.
As a historian the histories of these fictional worlds and especially ones like Star Trek simply taking place in the future are fascinating and something I love to learn about.
Yes indeed my good friend. Thank you for this. I’m truly inspired by these fictional stories of advanced civilisations and feel empowered to manifest this change in our own Terran abode.
I love the retcon in Strange new worlds that the Eugenics wars and WWIII were just 2 parts of the same war that led into one another. It showed that the current writers of Star Trek understand that the lore is supposed to support the message of the stories they tell, not the other way around
You have parts 1 and 2 and the complete combined video in play list. I like the multiple parts way of putting videos in star trek history play list. I watch these over and over again.
I almost can't believe this channel exists because it contains longer, in-depth videos about some of my favourite series. Watching the Trek ones for now but i intend on getting some of the ASoIaF videos soon
The less we hear about Discovery the better. It is a dark page in Star Trek history never to be repeated I hope. After 15 minutes of that my TV remote controller warped out before any more brain damage was done.
Ahh yes the eugenics war of the 1990s. I will never forget that war that literally never happened. I do remember the console wars between Sega and Nintendo though.
The Romulans were far from helpless or hopeless in "Star Trek: Picard", having the ability to assemble a fleet of 218 ships. Plus, the Romulans put an end to their own rescue by putting into motion the plan to destroy Mars, Utopia Planetia, and seeing that Federation lives were lost and property destroyed. Despite the moral outrage of Picard, Starfleet and the Federation were right to put an end to their rescue efforts, and ban synthetics. There was already precedent for that in how genetic engineering was banned, and those who were found to be genetically altered (with the exception of Julian Bashir) were kept from fully participating in the Federation. And it isn't as though Picard was unaware that, with the "flip of a switch" Data himself could be compromised and put himself, his crew, and the Enterprise in danger. So, I don't buy that the Romulans were significantly weakened, and the agenda that "Picard" tried to push falls apart on critical analysis. Although the premise that he's brooding and bitter over how the Federation has changed (due to war with the Borg and the Dominion) was not bad. What they did with it was.
Banning genetically engineered people from being full citizens is a form of apartheid, and I don't know why you'd use it as an example to support the equally fascist measure of banning synthetic lifeforms. The issue with the show Picard is that it engineers this cartoonishly evil action in order to use it as a punching bag for ideological preaching.
They didn't need a fucking rescue. JJ's shitty writing sent the whole franchise into a tale spin of nonsense. The Romulan star empire had vast fleets full of ships so massive they could almost fit a galaxy class explorer inside them. The empire was made of hundreds, maybe even thousands of planets. All of this equates to a person who admitted that he didn't like Star Trek deliberately harming the franchise with shoehorned nonsense narratives. People need to quit trying to make up explanations for bad writing that the writers themselves decided to leave out. Quit making excuses for these people. If you buy a chair from Walmart and if falls apart as soon as you get home, do try and rationalize why it was so shitty? No, you throw it out and find somewhere else to buy a chair.
@@Mephilis78 Well, it makes more sense if the catastrophe happens suddenly, and there's paranoia over if the claims are true. Having the evacuation effort last SIX years, on the otherhand, throws most of that under the bus. And yes, largely for short-cut, shock writing, and yes, a bit hack writing, too.
@@chrissonofpear1384 this is an issue for me. There's no way the energy and matter ejected by a supernova can exceed the speed of light. I'm not exactly sure what I said that you are responding to, but I also have a problem with them not keeping the story straight. I'm assuming that's what you are responding to. Even if it did magically become the Romulan star, like in Picard, it would take 3 days, assuming the planet is the same distance from it's sun as earth... longer if it was further. I can't see something closer being habitable (considering that romulans have always appeared comfortable withthe temperature on federation ships/stations). Imho the JJ verse should be scrapped in both Trek and Star Wars.
If we dealt with every impossible thing from TNG, the older movies and Voyager, we'd be a long time indeed. When subspace exists, at least some leeway can be allowed. But yes, certainly the story has not been kept pretty straight. I prefer the ST: Online take on it, generally, if we must be stuck with it.
Sad to see a great and conquering warrior race under the thumb of Starfleet sissies. Oh will, we still have the Cardassions and they better amp it up if they are going to fill the Klingons shoes. I wonder who is going to teach the Klingons table manners since they are going to join Starfleet. I would think that is a deal braker and a act of war and the spelling of blood wine. Anyway it is in my great house. LOL.
You know star trek is cool and all but have you ever thought 🤔 of a storyline that was a prequel to star trek? Like most people tend to forget that humanity came together only AFTER the bombs fell and even then a hundred- two hundred years of anarchy followed before FTL tech was invented and first contact, it would be pretty cool if we had some characters from that time periods and followed their own story of survival the best part is that you can make it all up, there's some parts of star trek canon that goes back in time that far but for the most part it rarely touches on the subject. So go nuts it be interesting to see what kind of backward techno states are standing and how petty kingdoms of theocrats would rule the lands of America in darkness and paranoia grasping at superstition to support their hierarchy and condemn their enemies. What would you call the story? Star trek prequel? Star trek origins? After earth? Just brain storming is all. It be dope af
Don't they say at some point that Section 31's existence was part of the Federation Charter? That would suggest they didn't exist before that. At least not with that name. Or am I misunderstanding?
You would have to kill me and many others like me before I accepted global communism with no nation states as a legitimate form of government. In fiction, that idea may work but in real life it's an awful idea.
That part at 2150 always made me wonder, are the government workers that are still working to provide for everyone else, at least through massive accounting, doing it because they love numbers or are they a different class? Or is that given over to AI?
Wait, if Coridan was part of the coalition, then why was the federation voting to admit Coridan during Journey to Babel? "You Vulcan, I want to speak with you" Tellarite ambassador "It does seem unavoidable" Sarek " How do you vote on the Coridan admission ?" Tellarite ambassador.
3:27 Section-31 The unsung heroes of the Alpha Quadrant... After the Dominion war they basically became the primary "Shadow-broker" of the Alpha Quadrant ensuring UFP primacy and basically turning the Federation into a hyperpower. Discovery as well as Picard series makes little sense.
I really do hate that they make them out to be the bad guys. In order to maintain peace sometimes you got to do some dirty shit. I mean do the same idealist people think that we fought World war 2 fair and clean?
Dreaming of "Govt. provided basic stuff" "Currency Eliminated" "Material Wealth no longer Valued" With these 3, going to a workplace in a different perspective..... Nah, not possible in my lifetime or never....
For those who don't know, Gene Roddenberry based the Galactic Federation of Planets on the real Galactic Federation, which is basically the United Nations of the universe (they actually created the United Nations based on their model). The other biggest group in the universe is the Draconian Empire, which is mainly but not entirely made up of reptilians and is headquartered around the star Thuban in Draco. The Galactic Federation has a huge diversity of species and is headquartered around Sirius B, and has been at war with the Draconian Empire for billions of years. You can find a lot more info on both these groups just by searching UA-cam for "Galactic Federation" or "Draconian Empire". There's even a lot of reptilians and other ETs that have agreed to audio interviews discussing both groups in great depth. In the 600s AD, both the Federation and Empire agreed to a quarantine of planet Earth so that we learn to evolve scientifically to the point where we stop worshipping everything from the sky that lands on Earth as gods. But the quarantine just applies to the general population, of course secret societies and many modern governments have been in contact with both groups ever since then. Many Federation members agree to give what they call development aid to certain people on Earth, such as scientists and filmmakers. Gene Roddenberry himself was part of a group of US government officials and scientists and artists who met regularly with them in the 1950s and 60s.
So the millions of people around the world who testify that they experience regular abductions are all lying? There's overwhelming evidence (physical, testimonial, and audio-visual). To ignore the extraordinary evidence and dismiss the millions of witnesses as insane is what's really insane. Your attitude is similar to how society in the 1980s and 90s said the the dozens of women who said Harvey Weinstein raped them were all lying and insane. Well now we know they were telling the truth all along. The millions of abductees will soon have their MeToo moment, and society will know they were telling the truth all along.
@@Vegetables578 I think they should wreck on that whole thing. Between the original Star Trek and Star Trek strange new worlds it is very odd that they never seek their face before to link them with the Vulcans.
Often conservatives will criticize Star Trek as portraying left-wing multiculturalism but this is a misrepresentation or overly simplistic opinion. Yes, there are different races and cultures that make up the Federation, however, every race/culture must meet the fundamental values enshrined in the charter. These "universal values" contradict the conservative implication that Star Trek is "post-modern" and instead simply an extrapolation of classical liberalism which is the foundation of American conservatism. The mere existence of a criteria suggests that a hierarchy of value placed on different systems of beliefs and culture with cultures that have slavery or a caste system viewed as inferior or unfavorable. And Prime Directive serves both the purpose of non-interference, but can also be interpreted as isolationist of more primitive cultures but that should never be construed as necessarily "tolerance" or "acceptance". Anytime the Prime Directive is invoked, it is often accompanied with a judgement against the culture violating the precepts of the Federation and it is usually never in terms of "acceptance" or "tolerance" of a cultural posture. And when a culture's actions are so egregious, the Prime Directive has been violated on numerous occasions.
@@flyingfoamtv2169 even as conservatives we admit that some of it does have some socialism in it that were kind of comfortable with because as long as they stick to individual freedoms and personal responsibilities that's all we care about that's the fundamental Factor if we ever have a United Earth
A pitty you left behind the method used in which the Federation managed to defeat the Dominion. Certainly a method quite....peculiar to Starfleet standards.
Do you mean the wormhole aliens disappearing the Dominion fleet, or the engineered virus infecting the Changeling leaders? One is a talk no jutsu, the other is kind of in line with Federation tactics, as they did the same thing to the Borg basically
@Billy Bones Meant the engineered virus. I see it as kind of not quite in line with Federation tatics in general. Too "inhumane" . I recall similar plans with the borg, through Hugh, but on the ocasion they were also considered "inhumane" in quite a way. Guinan calls him a person and Picard angrily says "It's is not a person, dammit! It's a borg". Even so, just by recognizing Hugh as a person was enough to change all the plans of infection. And, back to the Dominion, there was also the not quite standard alying methods with the romulans. Through murder and deception. Even though in this case it was not through the decisions of starfleet command, but Sisko's and Garek's. I wonder if it was ever discovered later. I believe section 31 would be pretty proud 😆
"A new world economy formed, with currency eliminated in favor of a egalitarian system where everyone's needs are met by the government." bro I am dying, that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard 😂😂😂. Nothing against Civ Ex but it seems like some of the writers for Star Trek don't have a good grasp on how economics works.
@JET I know my point is that its kinda dumb that they decided to make the federation communist since apparently communism is considered a 'sci-fi' concept to them, but if it works within the confines of the universe then its whatever.
If the Battle of the Binary Stars is from Discovery, that would be part of the Kelvin timeline and not the one most folks view as the main timeline, so not sure if that applies to this video which seems to focus on the main timeline.
Discovery is not Kelvin timeline, as season 2 of that show makes clear. Whether it really is 'prime' timeline, either, is a matter of personal and subjective opinion - including if visual continuity is worth a damn, given it's 'stealth visual reboot' approach.
Federation are bullies they break the prime direction most of the time. I and my kind reject them and demand they stay away from my kind if they step foot on my world the will force to leave.
I don't think they break the prime directive most of the time throughout the whole Star Trek universe was from what I can see the prime directive is only maybe broken at least 10% of the time
@@appropinquo3236 in order for that to be achievable the people who are made up of the government will have to trust each other and that's going to be a little bit kind of hard
no, after DIS he made a comment saying he dosent think of it as canon, so i geuss it wont happon ever. in fin with this because i hate all trek made after 2002
A jerk off the United federation of planets is based off mostly of the ideas from the United States of America. Why you think Starfleet headquarters is located in San Francisco. I swear to God you European trash/ woke social justice warriors are the reason some of us who are of conservative leaning will never want to join you in the united Earth.

VHS and Betamax: "Are we jokes to you?"

Anyway it is in my great house. LOL.
39-38 depending if star trek borg is considered canon if the survivor of an excelsior class ship

Well said.
have you ever learned why roddenbury made star trek?🤣🤣🤣
