    Guys, this UA-camr does the best fishing line testing I’ve ever seen, and all for free. So don't be shy to send him some line to test and SHARE his channel so he can get as many views as he deserves !

    Damn its unbelievable how thick the lines are in reality compared to claimed numbers.

      I agree, that's been the biggest take away from all these tests in my eyes.

      I think the best image you produced was the varivas PE 0.4 vs a hair.
      I think it would be great for a video to show some control of known diameter to help people to have mental images.
      The comparison you made worked like a declic for me.
      With this you realize how thin is already something around 0.12mm ! And so, how ridiculous are the claims of < .10mm diameters and how it would be so easily break.
      Anglers mind have been lured for many years having lines with false numbers, your work is really helpful to get a clear picture of actual diameters and resistance.

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  Рік тому +1

      That's actually a great idea to have a comparison on diameter. I understand that 0.2mm is hard to visualize without some reference next to it. A hair works great as everyone knows how fine they are but I'm wondering if there is something better. Have to think about that one.

    I will share your vids on every group because
    I 'm very disappointed by all the false claims when it comes to line diameters and strength!

    It's an interesting experiment.
    Daiwa J-Braid Grand X8 0.13mm is a PE Line I used in the past.
    I guessed the breaking strain was 20LB. Thank you for the accurate experiment.
    FYI, In South Korea... J-Braid Grand X8 0.13mm is marked as 18LB.

    @Justin-zw1hx 2 місяці тому

    FYI, The formula to calculate tensile strength is not correct, it's not breaking strain/ cross section area, it's the breaking force/ cross section area, strain measures the elongation/original length of the sample.

    Great video. I love this series. Can you test the J=Braid Grand 15 lb? It would be nice to see how this compares to the many 15 lb lines you tested. Thank you.

    Same break strength as the Monotex Gliss 13lb, but the Monotex is almost 20% thinner and feels smoother. Monotex is still king to me.

      I was thinking about giving the gliss a try until i saw the harsh reviews. I use around a 7 foot leader so i just wanna know how the abrasion resistance is if you are using a leader and will it fray easily still.

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  Рік тому

      I have been using the gliss for a while now and it's been great. Casts really well and haven't had any issues with abrasion resistance nor freying. Absolutely still run a leader.

    I have the 10lbs j braid grand, I just compared to cheap diawa JDM 100% fluorocarbon 8lbs (supposed to be 0.235mm), I think the 10lbs jbraid grand looks a little thicker than fluoro to me... so it might be similar to the 8lbs, way thicker than it claims.

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  6 місяців тому

      Yep, 99% of braids are claimed to be way under what they actually are from a diameter perspective.

      @Justin-zw1hx 6 місяців тому +2

      @@thelinelaboratory Have you measured some fluorocarbon lines? I'm interested to see if fluoro lines are generally also thicker than the claimed diameters.

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  6 місяців тому

      @@Justin-zw1hx I have, but not as many as the braids. Most mono/fluoro lines I have tested are very accurate on the diameter claims, within a few percent.

      @@wenz3698 Lets assume Max break average was 16.69lbs, diameter average was 0.214mm. This gives us the following formula where PI is 22/7

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  6 місяців тому

      "better" is subjective, there are a lot of factors involved and tensile strength is one of them. A high tensile strength means it's stronger for a given diameter.

  • @RCSTILE
    @RCSTILE 7 місяців тому

    The only thing this test proves is the 8lb. J braid is actually the diameter of most 15 lb. braids and breaks at the point where you would expect 15 lb. braid to break.
