    I have this line as PE1 in use and I like it very much in terms of handling, thickness and it is not fading much. But I have problems with knot strength and I think it is related to the smoothness. The line cuts the fluorocarbon quite easy, eventgough it is a fg knot. Maybe someone has a better knot, for super smooth lines?

      Personally I haven't seen any issues with smooth lines not performing well with an FG. Maybe something else is going on....

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory 4 дні тому

      @manuelbover4816 I am not sure how thats possible. For example, i could get 10 lines all rated at 20lbs, but history shows they will likely not break at 20lbs, probably anywhere between 15lbs and 30lbs. Then what? I am back to testing lines - that are all rated the same - but all have different breaking strengths. The best we can do is compare them as a percentage of the maximum break which is individually established for each line.

  • @manuelbover4816
    @manuelbover4816 4 дні тому

    I watched your test, and they're not fair. You can't use a 6 lb test, and then on another one, use a 30 and have the same abrasion resistance. If you want to make it fair, use all the lines you test 30, then it would be a fair

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory 4 дні тому

      Not quite sure i understand your concern or logic. Abrasion resistance is expressed as a percentage of the maximum break for each line. So if a line has a maximum break of 10lbs, and the abrasion breaks at 5lbs its 50%. This would be the same as a line that breaks at 60lbs max, then has an abrasion break of 30lbs.

    I've found that the only two brand of lines that maintain consistent tensile strength as it gets thicker and thicker are Berkley Pro Braid in white and Power Pro Maxcuatro. Consistent tensile strength up to 100 lbs actual breaking strength. Yozuri is the best value with tensile strength just below the other two mentioned brands but much cheaper. All other line just use cheaper material as it goes up in labeled strength. It cost the manufacturer way more in raw material to produce a 50 lbs line vs a 10 lbs so they end up using cheaper grade of spectra beyond the 50 lbs strength. Tensile strength and FG knot strength also tends to drop as you move up in line strength. Maxcuatro and Berkley Pro Braid seems to have the best FG knot strength for line whose actual breaking strength is greater than 50 lbs. PR knot people do not care because the PR knot is the great equalizer when it comes to the best knot breaking strength percentage NO MATTER which brand of line they use or what the real actual breaking strength is.

    These line tests are super cool!! The fg knot breaking at 40lb I can live with, but the abrasion resistance really let that line down. Especially since I purchased that line for my Murray Cod setups, where abrasion resistance is kind of important😅. Just letting you know I eventually evolved from a Sh*tgoose to a Firebird, but I’m still stoked to see the old alias come up on the tv😂. Keep breaking those lines legend🫡

    @linelaboratory what PE3 (50 Pound) would you personally spool on an old (2010) saltiga 5000 to go for tuna and Amberjack? Thinnest real diameter would be essential to be able to cast all day long. Also knot resistance would be important, abrasion not so much

      We tested the Shimano Ocea in PE3 which broke at 51lbs so thats probably the closest match for what your looking for. Overall performance was pretty good. We released a video of the testing which you can find on our channel.

      I would say 30(ABS 50) or 40(ABS 60) lbs Maxcuatro. Thinnest 50 to 60 lbs line and excellent FG knot strength in case you need to cast thru the guides. PR knot is terrible for casting thru the guides.

  • @FiishOn
    @FiishOn 6 днів тому

    PE4 60Lb c'est très bien. Encore une fois 33/100 +22% = 40.26/100 (on est toujours entre ces 20/22% de plus chez YGK pour le diamètre max). Pas de problème quand on connait les produits, qu'on est renseigné un minimum, qu'on connait les réelles limites de la technologie et qu'on fait des tests... Si vous prenez de l'ultra haut de gamme chez YGK, le plus cher, il n'y aura pas grand chose de différence, dans les premiers prix ils utilisent déjà de la fibre très haut de gamme, la méthode coute juste beaucoup moins cher car plus rapide et moins minutieux, micro fibre plus grosse, et on ne ressent pas forcément de différence même si il y en a une. C'est comme payer pour avoir une tresse 5% meilleure (plus ou moins) pour 3 fois plus cher. On sera très nombreux à ne pas voir la différence malgré un prix x3, donc la déception sera à la hauteur de la différence de prix. J'aime les X4 et X8 Upgrade. On est aux limites de la technologie au bout d'un moment... Vous voulez une tresse qui dure : une 4 ou 8 brins, tressage bien serrée avec revêtement épais, le plus rond possible. De la solidité pure en linaire et au noeud : Une tresse torsadé (fibre droite, pas de tissage, enrobée d'un énorme revêtement résineux épais, comme duel armored F+) mais usure de surface beaucoup plus rapide. Je serais tout même curieux de voir ce que donne une X9 YGK ou Varivas en diamètre PE 3 a plus. La réalité se fait ressentir à la pêche. Je ne vois pas de différence avec ma PE0.8 YGK Shinji X9 et une YGK X8 Upgrade ou Bornrush etc...

    Can you please tell me why the overall ranking was so low for this line? Was it the poor abrasion resistance? What other factors caused it to rank so poorly

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory 6 днів тому

      The overall ranking is a combination of the tensile rank + abrasion rank + fg rank. The lower the total number the better, so no single result has a larger influence on the final ranking than any other test.

    • @korzer
      @korzer 6 днів тому

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory 6 днів тому

      @@korzer Nope no influence on the final ranking as that is simply "marketing accuracy" or lack there of. A line could be rated to break at 10lbs, and it actually breaks at 50lbs, but if the tensile strength is really high then it will rank at the top.

    I’ve been very intrigued by your tests and the results! It’s caused me to really second guess what kind of line I want to buy for slow pitch jigging. I was originally going to buy PE1-1.5 ocean devils, but the FG ratings in the tests for the different braids from them has me weary. I’ll be tying a PR knot from braid to leader for jigging. I was between yozuri super braid 15 lb, daiwa j braid 4,8, or grand in 10 or 15lb, or the ocean devil in PE1, 1.2, or 1.5. I have just recently found somewhere in the US that I can buy sunline siglon x8 also. All these tests have kind of held me up, because I can’t really decide. I want the thin diameter and good roundness for if I fish in 1000+ feet of water, but I also need a great knot strength with 10-15lb line. I was just curious what your suggestion may be. These tests have had me indecisive now for a couple months going through the results.

    40k tensile strength is awesome. But it appears their US division doesn’t list it as 55lb. Just had 40, 50, 65, etc. would be really interesting if the 65-120# retained that 40k tensile strength, would be a really big deal for capacity! For example, we can fit 800yds of maxcuatro 100 on Saltiga 60, while it’ll only fit 600yds of typical 100# braid.

    I had missed this video… I did a lot of tests on my own years ago. I had abandoned the double unit knot and the Albright due to significant loss of strength and poor passage through the guides. I’ve been using the FG for more than 10 years now. By the way, I don’t see anyone talking about this, but like you, I had many questions and did tests to understand it. One of those questions was why a knot goes through the guides well or poorly. I realized that there’s something more important than the knot itself. In fact, even with micro FG knots, it sometimes went through very poorly. It’s actually quite simple: it’s just a matter of the flexibility of the fluoro compared to the braid. If there’s too much difference in stiffness between the two, for example, very stiff 29/100 fluoro against an 8-strand PE 0.8 braid, the difference in flexibility is huge and creates an incompatibility. If you switch to an extra-flexible nylon of the same diameter, the knot will pass much more easily and snap a lot less. The ideal is to have nylon as flexible and as thin as possible.

    Hi, can you test the Handing X8? It's an Aliexpress line that's said to have JDM specs, we want to see if that's true :)

    Great review, sorry I’ve stumbled across this 1 year later I’ve been using on a variety of reels from 2500 to 14000 and think it does a top job. No tip wrap, or wind knots I’ve been pleasantly surprised 😳 🎣 And love the fact that something is still made in Australia and only about 1hr from my place Cheers

      Same, everything from 8lb to 50lb and love it. They are only an hour from me also 😏

    Tasline is one of the only brands to test each spool of braid in house. results are at least 25% more of what the breaking strain is, which is a nice change

    I was actually pretty excited for this line but i was properly dissapointed by the results, thank you so much for these tests and allowing us to choose whats best for us, expensive doesnt always mean better

    It would be nice to see the same test but using fluoro that is weaker than the braid

      Yes absolutely, that's a different but equally valid test. I have plans to do that exact test at some stage. This was purely testing the best knot for when braid is the weakest link.

    What would you recommend as far as casting braid for strong snapper, grouper, pelagics in wrecks
