We have a new record!
Honestly, I was shocked at how well BOTH of these lines held up for our knot contest.
But, there must always be a winner in the strength test...
Not only did this braid win, but it also set a new record above all other braided lines I've tested!
So which braid won?
PowerPro Original or J-Braid 8 Grand?
Check out the video to see the shocking numbers!
Do you prefer one of these lines over the other?
Let me know down in the comments!

Great post - I have always stuck to the Berkley lines but might have to try this one out
Great work Luke! Very interesting and look forward to seeing more results!
Love your channel. Awesome information. In the market for my first braid line. Needed a comparison. I've decided.
So glad to see that you found this video to be helpful. We have both of them in stock in our online store in case you haven't yet purchased yours: fishstrong.com/collections/line-1/Braid
Interesting information and I'd love to see more insight. I'm sure I'll go through my 1500 yard spools of Power Pro in time. The thing that sold me on Power Pro over the earlier competition was how well it does cast and work without issues. My first attempt using braid was Fire Line and I'd be fishing mono were that the only option.
dude I started out with spider wire and fireline I kept scratching my head as to why braid was so popular.
@@SaltySeaCaptain My dad tried Fireline and would never consider touching braid line after that.
Same with mine.
P line tcb 8 strand is good stuff...it holds its color better than anything I have seen...this is compared to 832, jbraid, and sunline xplasma. Strength seems great as well although I havent done in depth testing like you guys have.
Thanks for the test
Great video! Please do a test with the Berkeley braid knot. I found that this knot is far superior to the uniknot.
I'd love to see you test Shimano Kairiki (8 string) line against Daiwa and PowerPro
Nice test. I've been using yo-zuri braid , without any issues.
Thanks for watching!
I have only used suffix 832. I need to try out some of these other brands. Interesting
You have tested a number of things what are your thoughts on whether or not the sound that comes from some braided line when it goes through guides can "scare" the fish.
The greatest test on lines online!
Thanks!
Nice video - great comparison
Thanks! 👍
Links to the casting video are not working.
Would love to see a test of the J braid grand vs fireline!! The FG knot is harder to tie with the fireline I've found also.
Noted! Thanks for the feedback!
I fished both J-Braid Grand (40) and Power Pro (50) on a long range trip two weeks ago. The J-Braid is smooooth. It "feels" smoother than the Power Pro. Because this was a bottom fishing trip, there was no casting so I cannot render an opinion on how well either line casts.
The J-Braid (blue) did suffer from some "color fade", but that was expected. The Power Pro was white, so no color fade was noted. I could not decern any significant difference in my ability to tie knots between the two lines. I used a GT knot without fail the entire trip for the top shot, and both the Uni or Palomar for terminal tackle connections. I did not suffer a single instance of line failure on either the J-Braid or the Power Pro. All line failures were leader related (3 or 4 as I recall from toothy critters biting through the line).
Between the two lines, IMHO they are very, very close. For me, it came down to cost, color and availability (to keep things simple, I color code the line on ,my reels: Grey = #30, Blue=#40, White = #50, etc). Both are great quality fishing line.
Thanks for making time to leave the helpful comment!
Looks like 8 strand braid is much more slippery than 4 strand. So perhaps the J-Braid needs more turns in the Uni knot to match up with the PowerPro. Would be cool if you tested them with a 15 turn Uni knot.
The J-Braid Grand is superior, period.
Can you try out Varivas Avani Casting Max Power braid please.
Thanks
Wait till you guys try Varivas Braid from Japan lol they’re now selling it in the US. I use 33lb and it’s diameter is the same as 15lb braid and some 10lb , depending on brand.
It’s slick as hell and the most quiet line I’ve ever used.
I'm very interested in theirs braids.
I haven't seen their line yet.
@@Saltstrong I have no issue ordering a spool for you guys to try out !
It’s not all that good I have try it before I tastline is way better
@@williammata6019 the all purpose is great the breaking point is much higher than rated and doesn’t bleed
I just got j braid on my torium . I now have jerry brown on one reel , j braid , and power pro . Jb is very nice...
Been using jbraid grand since 2019, i caught my 58lbs king Mac using the 20lbs jbraid grand on a 4500 penn slammer
That's the size J-Braid I use here in Florida for large mouth. It's my favorite braid by far. I use the gray light color, straight with no leader. The fish don't seem to see that color because I'm catching them back to back with no issues at all! Love this stuff
I've used both of these lines for years, and Jx8 out performs power pro in every way. You cast way further with jx8, if you birdnest forget power pro, jx8 is so smooth a bird nest pulls right out. Had tons of breakage on power pro and not on jx8. I've tried all brands and none compare to jx8. Great video
I use a uni knot but I go two times through the line tie because of how slick Jx8 is and I do 10 loops.
You mean regular j×8 or j×8 grand?
I agree...the J-Braid Grand is A-mazing IMO.
Not my experience but Im told they sell bootleg jbraid on Ali-express. I tested 40lb Jbraid with the improved uniknott and it broke between 25lb and 27.8 lbs in 6 trys. I uses a swivel tied to bucket hung a few inches off ground slowly filled with water until it broke and then picked bucket up with scale. I will try the fg knot next but honestly the test ive done the line broke in the middle. Im trying to return the Jbraid i bought as i type this maybe i got a bad batch idk.
The daiwa j braid they sell on AliExpress is fake.
IGFA tested all the braid to leader knots and the only one that had 100% remaining unbroken with 80 pound braid under 65 pounds of stress, was the GT knot. The FG knot only held 74% of the time.
I want to see Varivas, Sufix 131, Berkley X9 and Berkley FireLine Tracer Braid/Berkley Trilene Tracer Braid be tested by you.
Can you test the Yo Zuri Super Braid 4 strand please?
How well does j braid do in windy conditions?
Can you test hetina braid
Powerpro is indestructible, in clean water that is, I've brought in jus massive fish on light line, not ever having the line snap. Ever. Obviously through grass and Rocks it'll fray and snap... But in water. It's amazing stuff. Trying the j. Braid this season cause I love trying new stuff. I've only heard good things about it too, can't wait to see how it feels!
Thanks for the feedback!
Have you tried the J-Braid Grand yet? I tried it yesterday and it's instantly my favorite line! So smooth, sensitive, and strong!! A-mazing stuff
@@J-Rod73 ya been out a few times with the grand x j braid. i like it more than the power pro, thinner and smoother and just as tough.
@@cb7pwn Yup, I agree
Why not Palomar knot to the swivel?
Can you tell me the diameter marked on the Daiwa J Braid Grand 10lb?
In Asia, they are often sold as class lb, not test lb.
Thanks for your question! Make sure to ask this over on the actual blog or in the Community (www.saltstrong.com/) where the coaches spend their time. The blog can be found here: bit.ly/3t0bkOe
Been using jbraid for a yr now no issues at all. Great all around line!
Hey guy's how about J braid vs Yo Zuri super braid?👍🏼🎣🤓
Please test against the new spider wire dura braid
You should have used power pro slick 8 v2 it’s the same price range as the j braid 8
Was that regular powerpro or Maxcuattro?
Awesome, but for now I know power pro works for a very long time and it never let's me down.
Very true
Have you tested Kastking braid?
Have you guy's tried any Sunline products? I've been using both Sunline Siglon PEx8 Braid (it's super thin and casts well - decent price) & also Sunline Xplasma Asegai Braid (a bit more spendy than the PEx8 ). Their leader is great too IMO... The System Leader FC100 -pretty strong and thin diameter. If you haven't tried it yet...would be interesting to hear your thoughts on any of the products I've mentioned.
Not yet
I’ve using sunline siglon ADV for seabass and i love it ,much better than J-braid..
I've used sunline castaway in pe 0.8 12lb for a while never had a wind knot casts a long way BUT blows in the wind like a spider web and is very weak breaks alot less than 12lb its pathetic if you want confidence in pulling in a big fish stay away from it..let me down BIG time yesterday ..
The 4 strand j braid is nice as well-I usually use suffix 832 for 8 strand but I’ll give the grand a shot
Suffix 832 is good stuff I just started using it maybe 6 months ago, very smooth and holds up well too. My go to for years and years has been Stuff Line XP. I swear it’s the same as PP minus the hype and extra marketing cost.
I use jbraid grand and pp super slick
My favorite line to throw for most applications has been jbraid grey light..it feels like silk and the color is visible enough for me to track and seems like it disappears under the water
Super slick is nice but I don’t really like the coated feel of it
Personal preference
Thanks for making time to leave the helpful comment.
Roland , how well does it handle in the wind ?
@@mitchgarcia4591 funny as I was out there yesterday fishing for bass and trout and used both SS and jbraid grand but different lb tests.
The wind was tossing my lines all over - I can’t say whether one worked better than the other
I was using 6lb SS (BFS setup)and 30 lb jbraid grand(jigs) so not the best comparison..I have some 6lb jbraid grand and was thinking of testing it out..I can report back after so I can make a better comparison
Regarding wind knots, I say SS is a slightly better option because of what I feel as a light coating around the individual strands. They are easier to pick out than the jbraid grand strands for me.
@@DiamondHead2010 cool, very helpful information , yes lmk how it went , I'm still trying to decide , I'm currently using fins 10lb wind tamer & works great in the wind, but I want to try different stuff , Im liking the jbaid grand 8 grey light , I also forgot to mention I'm using 2500 spinning stradic , thanks again
@@mitchgarcia4591 so I used 6lb SS and 10 lb jbraid
Imo the power pro SS is stiffer, has a coating, and has a break in period. The stiffness does make it coil off the spool faster leading to potential wind knots
The jbraid is like silk, flows off the spool easily, manageability is a bit better than the power pro SS.
The coating will fall off a bit and it’s gets more manageable and durability seems to be favor the power pro but so far both lines are holding up
Will throw more info as i go along
Try super power braid I think it’s the best!
He did didn’t he
I heard palomar knots are the best for braid to swivel/lure
Thanks for the feedback!
I always use Palomar knots 💪
LOve for you tp compare Powedr pro Superslick (8 strand) VS J braid
Thanks!
Can you do the power pro v2 vs the Jbraid 3?

The Daiwa JBraid Grand is A-mazing
👍
Have you tested Beyond Braid?(braid manufacturer)
There is a video that they have about 3 weeks ago about it
Yes, here's a link to that review: www.saltstrong.com/articles/beyond-braid-review/
@@Saltstrong Ahh very interesting, been using Beyond Braid. Maybe have to rethink that.
I will give you a test for the line strength, try lifting a bucket with a set amount of weight in it and see what happens. Not one 30 lb braid I have tested yet has even lifted 23 lbs of weight!
Try some j braid
@@downtheriver5733 been there done that. J Braid, Diamond Braid, Kastking along with PowerPro and Yo-Zuri. None will lift 23 lbs of weight off the ground.
@Justin Bradburn loop knot - most break 1 1/2 inches above the knot, uni knot on the knot, Palomar knot on the knot
Somebody needs safety glasses 😁
Palomar please!!!!
Great knot!
Where are your safety glasses? Nice data tables, but you need the safety gear.
Pay attention! He placed his hand over the swivel and the knot.
Superior safety to eye glasses.
I wonder if they lie about the diameter thickness and that is why the breaking strength is higher?
When it comes to fishing I have no idea who to believe
They can't be lying too much because they feel about the same... if anything, the J-braid feels thinner.
Powerpro is the best..
Casting videos can't be found
I only use j braid
Nice!
Florida Fishing Products “distance” line, and maybe look at some of their reels. I have 3 and love them
In 1 test the j braid does much better in casting and abrasion resistance is no good.
Exact same diameters? How was this determined? This test means nothing without reliably measuring the thickness of the line. Also, if you're going to do something like this, more than a single lb-test variant should be examined. At least three samples (say 10lb, 30lb, 50lb) would give a much clearer understanding if a certain line brand/model is meaningfully better/more reliable than another (say PowerPro vs Jbraid 8G).
The thickness was determined by the listed thickness on the packaging along with a basic feel of the lines. We also ran these lines through a casting contest which would surely have been a detriment to the thicker line if there was one. We mostly use and recommend 10 lb line, so that has been the standard in our tests.
@@Saltstrong I've tested braided line diameter with a digital caliper and they where amazingly quite close
I've tested braided line diameter with a digital caliper and they where amazingly quite close.
Don't get your feelings hurt just because there's something out there now that's better than Power Pro lol
PANDORA is way better than any braid you have tested
