  • The ultimate quest for the best braided line available to inshore saltwater anglers continues!
    This line experiment featuring Beyond Braid 8x tests this new line that is being heavily marketed on social media to an established line that has proven itself to be a top contender for saltwater fishermen who use braid.
    In the past, we tested Beyond Braid 4x strength, but for this test, we are trying out their new Beyond Braid 8x line.
    Since it is an 8-strand braided line, we will compare Beyond Braid to Daiwa J-Braid 8 Grand as well as PowerPro Maxcuatro.
    PowerPro Maxcuatro is a 4-strand line mainly included in this experiment to see how it performs against an 8-strand line.
    Check it out!

      Hello and thanks for the video, I love comparisons like this. What are the top 3 bet buy strings in your opinion? Is J braid 8x Grand as good in general?
      By the way, for the European market there are completely different and inflated markings, for example: 0.10mm - 7 kg - 15 lb, or 0.13mm - 8.5 kg - 19 lb.. How much lb is for 0,10 and 0,13 in USA? Thank you

      I would 100% recommend the regular power pro. It is one of the cheapest, strongest, holds its color over years and one of the most resistant to wind knots in my opinion and several charter captains i know.
      Know the uni knot (double uni for attaching leaders) but i love the FG knot.
      I take my buddies out and they have mono on their rigs and i constantly cast probably 50feet farther which is important in inshore fishing (especially those spooky winter redfish and gator trout)

    Outstanding content! You guys are great! Do you have an abrasion test for braid? I have used Maxcuatro for a few years until seeing one of your videos on the 8 Grand. I recently started using 8 Grand. I have used regular Power Pro, Pro Slick, Seaguar, etc. Maxcuatro seemed to be the most abrasion resistant. I could rip it out of any grass or bush (bank fisherman here!) and it never broke! However, it did mutilate whatever I ripped it out of! Thank you for all you guys do! Does the smoother texture of 8 strand braid change how many wraps you need to get max strength out of a FG knot? Does it grip the leader material as well?

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  2 роки тому

      I use the 18 wraps with the 8 grand as I do with 4 strand lines. As for gripping onto the leader, it seems plausible that the smoother line would be more likely to slip. But I haven't experienced any slippage issues with the 8 strand line yet so the risk surely isn't very high.

      I’ve used Hercules for years landed 4-9’ sharks on 80-150lb and I know of folks landing 12-13’ sharks on 200 Hercules I’m not sponsored by them or in anyway bias but I’ve found that thicker braids usually are stronger for a cheaper price and yes it eats up line capacity which is why I’m searching for thinner braids, I’m very skeptical of thin braids because I shark fish, i need to lay very high drag to turn these fish.

    Daiwa j is an amazing braid no doubt but the diameter of the braid plays a big role as well because you could have that extra performance from the braid but when you spooling your reel you could lose a few hundred meters. I say this because here South Africa we use bigger reels for in shore fishing because we have to cast further to reach those banks and structure and from a non edible point of view we use mainly 50 lbs braid so we want that thinner braid because we need more line on the spool and a 50 lbs j-braid isn't very thin compared to other braids on the market but you have the reliability of the j-braid if you do use it.

      I have Gosen 16 strand and it's by far the silkiest, smoothest, easiest wind knot management line ever. One "minor" drawback - the "41#" tests out at 22-23 pounds and the "23#" at 10-11 pounds. I use the "41#" as 20# and it's excellent but does hold line twist.

      Yes. The 2x Uni knot proved to be 8% stronger than the Palomar. And the Trilene knot shown in this video proved to be 10% stronger than the Uni. So I highly recommend switching to the Trilene knot (2x through the hook and 10 twists up the line).

      I know this is an old comment, But I use the x5 on all my casting combos that call for braid. I can definitely say that I notice a difference between the x5 and original power pro braid. The x5 seems to stack better "more uniform" on the spool and I think it's due from that core helping the braid retain a round profile. I'm guessing the x9 would have the same, if not better results. Definitely no flat spots. I haven't used power pro since I switched to the Berkley X series braid. I'm using either the X series braid or sufix 832. Hope this helps!

      @@jamesbarron1202 so to get the equivalent break strength out of powerpro you’re saying you have to go thicker? Which is counter intuitive by your logic of “strongest for its diameter” because surely if you decrease the diameter of BeyondBraid by .001 (which is the difference) you’ll mostly see a .5lb break average loss.
      You’re kinda arguing against your own point with that logic.

    I tested Maxcuatro 30lb with palomar knot and I averaged 31lb braking, now j braid is 0.11 at 30lb but the maxcuatro is 0.09 at 30lb which helps with the distance a lot. Saying that the cheaper line outperforms more expensive line is not true in my case...I know that this is only breaking test with the knots 3 different knots but you should have mention line diameter as it makes big difference.

    You should have conducted them based on their diameter to get more accurate results. The Maxcuatro is 0.178mm
    Beyond braid is 0.20mm
    Daiwa 8 grand is 0.229mm
    Using that information, you would actually be in the 30lb range if using same thickness with the maxcuatro vs the 8grand
    And around the 24lb using the beyond braid of same thickness

    Braid testing doesnt mean ANYTHING without tensile strength/ABS testing and diameter testing. Line manufactures are ridiculously off on their listed diameters and breaking strengths. So you could be comparing .25 MM line against .35 MM line without even knowing it, making the knot tying testing worthless because you cant compare it to its tensile strength and its diameter. PLEASE for the love god start doing ABS and diameter testing, its what we need as consumers of fishing line!

      He’s just comparing the advertised 20lb rating line from each brand, as a consumer I never look at diameter unless I’m worried about line capacity on a reel. I just want to see price to performance of that line weight class, this most likely isn’t the video for you I guess, though for me it was quite informative.

      Once we find a line that can beat this 8 Grand, we will not hesitate to publish the test details on it.

    Misleading tests. Yes, Diawa is a great value but it is thicker than Maxcuatro which has diameter closer to most 10 lbs braid. Strength test, knot strength or actual breaking strength is useless without comparing line diameter.

    Really hope this is unintentionally misleading... aside from Justin Ritchey you guys have been pretty non bias about things but maxcuatro is .23mm for 30lb test and the 8grand is .23mm for the 20lb test, not a fair comparison to use 20lb PP at .19mm. Weird cause for the leader tests you made them the same diameter, this should be strength per diameter.. PPMC is 30 is way stronger than the jbraid and the beyond for the same diameter.... the 20lb PP is the same diameter as 15lb jbraid.

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  2 роки тому

      Sorry about that... the PPMC was mainly just there to see how it did vs. this new version of the Beyond Braid compared to the PPMC that crushed the original version of the Beyond Braid. Since PPMC is thinner and not an 8 strand line, it didn't really serve a purpose in this test and any negative comparisons of strength shouldn't be concluded from this quick test.

    The test is useless without diameter of the line and weight for a given length to compare breaking strength per diameter and strength to weight ratio.
    “Pound test” rating is completely arbitrary. If the MaxCuatro was rated as 10 lb line, which is what it would compare to for the same diameter in J-Braid, it would absolutely win the comparison.
    That said, Yo-Zuri Superbraid is currently the best value for strong braid, as the 20# YZ and 30# MaxCuatro have nearly identical diameter and breaking strength (highest in their diameter class) but the YZ is considerably cheaper

  • @michaelf2646
    @michaelf2646 Рік тому

    These tests are meaningless if just the advertised poundage is taken in consideration. When a braid advertised as 10lbs is close to a 30lbs line both as diameter and real word poundage then it really is a 30lbs line. For example Power-pro 10lbs has roughly the same breaking strength and diameter as Suffix 832 15lbs, and are both 30+ lines. I bet they cast just about the same.
