    love it mate, would be good if you could add a delta figures/table for your summaries. Rated vs actual break, quoted vs actual diameter average and so on. Some of the variances are a bit crazy to me and it'd be good to get an idea of the consistency between brands and their ranges.

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  8 місяців тому

      I certainly have all that data and could add it in. Do you mean a percentage difference like "+50% Actual break vs Rated", or an absolute figure like "+13.6lbs". I am also concerned about the summary table getting too big and unreadable, I was trying to limit the data to the bare essentials.

    • @teeanahera8949
      @teeanahera8949 8 місяців тому +1

      @@thelinelaboratoryI think the way you portray the data is very good. I would like to see if there’s any engineering/physics explanation about what makes a good or poor knot strength & how the abrasion test affects lines.

    I think you need to replace the rubber at the ends of your testing rig with smooth metal, the braid will dig into the rubber and cause it to chafe. You can see the line break at the end on the rubber.

  • @MrBrutalFrosty

    What lb leader do you use with the fg knot test? And is it mono?

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes it is mono, and for this test it was 40lb. I have a few spools of cheap leader line and I choose one that is close to the estimated breaking strain of the braid, and would be logical to use in the real world. Ie: don't use 80lb leader on 8lb braid.

    Please try the 8lb jbraid expedition, i’m currently using it on a finesse setup but im finding the old 8lb jbraid Grand alot better, im curious what the test results will show

    • @25LQW
      @25LQW 3 місяці тому +1

      I would say the main reason for that is that grand is a big outlier with its size. 8lb grand is PE1. Whereas expedition pe1 is 12lb and 8lb expedition is PE .6. try the 12lb expedition, it should be similar to the older 8lb grand with the same PE size. That's what I did and found the performance about the same. I Find Expedition to hold FG better and easier but flip side wind knots hold better too 😢.

    • @aydenpezz9603
      @aydenpezz9603 3 місяці тому

      @@25LQW yeah you’re 100% correct cause ive switched to 10lb expedition and love it. 8lb is quoted 0.06mm in diameter and 10lb is quoted 0.10mm and eventhough its only a 2lb difference the extra diameter definitely helps heaps with abrasion resistance

    • @25LQW
      @25LQW 3 місяці тому +1

      @@aydenpezz9603 still going a step lighter. 8lb grand = .13. 12lb expedition = .13. Both PE1. That small difference is big. Tight lines.

  • @teeanahera8949
    @teeanahera8949 8 місяців тому

    Do you wet the knot when tying, I still have this habit from the old days of mono of using a bit spit to lubricate a knot, a close up look at mono near the knot without lubrication shows the line deformed (from friction & overheating?). Would mono to braid suffer and affect results if you’re not using the exact same mono for all tests? Is the braid always breaking in the knot tests and if not (because the mono breaks) does the break still get recorded as a braid failure? Sorry for all the questions. 🤓

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  8 місяців тому +1

      I don't wet the knot, i am not sure its important for an FG but i am happy to be proven wrong. I use the same brand of mono for all tests, just change the strength to reflect the line i am testing, I also try to keep the braid/leader combination realistic, like i wont use 80lb leader on 8lb braid for the test. I do have to take an educated guess on what leader is close to the knot break for each line, and occasionally i get it wrong and the leader will break first. if that happens those test are discarded and i will retie with the next strength up leader. Only tests where the braid breaks are included.

    Such a great and well executed test, very informative! But at this high level of production value, please watch out for typos like the actual diameter is +27.5% of the claimed one and not +127.5% as displayed twice in the video.

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  5 місяців тому +1

      I agree - the maximum break seems to be backwards with the PE1 breaking higher than the 1.2, but the FG and Abrasion tests are where I would expect them to be. Average Diameter was only 1/100th millimeter difference so not much in it. I went back and reviewed all the videos of the tests to ensure I didn't mix them up and nope, those are the correct results for each line based on my tests.

    Looking at its actual diameter test it is 0.2pe to which it becomes 20lb line and brakes at 18lb in the test . Which if fine
    Every line out there seems to break 2-3 lb less then it’s actual claimed lb.
