So I've been in his childhood home, and it hasn't been updated at all since the late 80s and is still owned by his mom. I just went to see the outside of it but his uncle was there taking care of it and he took me on a tour and told me old stories of Kurt as a kid. Being a dad of a young boy now, those stories really got to me and reminded me that he was just a fucking dude like anyone else. That house had energy, had a power to it ... and right down the street basically next door is the infamous bridge that he used to hang out under. Yeah, it was one of the most incredibly odd days of my life, and it's something I'll always remember.
My friends lived there in the early 70's, the house belonged to Philip Ahn, a popular Korean actor. The windows you are talking about are one large room, The kitchen had a red leather vintage crescent shaped booth and red formica table. There was a very large, heavy library table in the living room by the stairs. Many beautiful memories listening to lilting music from the Bowl. The elevator didn't always work, imagine carrying groceries. One neighbor was Adriana Caselotti, the voice of Snow White, we would visit with her.

I know the family that owns the house where he sadly died and even though he didn't die in the house but anyone would say its still amazing just to hang out in the house he owned. My friend has even found some belongings of Kurt's in some hidden places no one knew about and also some things technically owned by kurt like furniture and such came with the house when it was sold. I do have pictures to prove it and not just pics of inside the house but me inside the house.
The fact that the french graffiti on the restroom under the stairs is almost 23 years gives you the sense of how much time the house it´s been abandoned

@@russtomas4461 Wrong. Stop listening to the music and listen to the words. The boomers were writing music about totally different ideas or cultural norms and changes their generation experienced, same goes with generation x. No two generations are alike,
@@map3384 you can’t tell Russ that he’s wrong, and then ignore his point (the music) and tell him to listen to the words (something Russ didn’t even mention). Words are not music, they’re something added as an afterthought, once the music is complete. Kurt’s “words” were nonsensical various lines of poetry, that were jammed together from different poems he wrote. Absolutely none of his songs make any sense from a “listen to the words” standpoint. The music, as Russ said, is just a derivative of prior pop music. Kurt, himself, called his music pop music, even going as far as saying that Smells Like Teen Spirit was a ripoff of Louie Louie. Their songs are very basic, verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus-end formats, written around mainly 5ths (power chords), in 4/4 (the entire format of a pop song).
What a lot of people don't realize is that kurt already had most of in utero songs already down in 90 and 91 but he did change lyrics up and even parts of the actual music.. but he also did write a few whole songs while living in California like heart shape box and a few others but songs pennyroyal tea and dumb and few others can be traced back during never mind s early days and even before that.. oh geeze. So says the fans of every decade of music. All music, including grunge, was based on the music before it. It's the same chords arranged differently. It's you that perceives it differently.
This is why I thank Tracy bc she allowed kurt to stay home and not go to work and it gave him so much free time to create music.. RIP Kurt you are a legend and we all miss you
Brilliantly said!
@@xx7secondsxx thank you 🙏🏻 been a huge Kurt & Nirvana fan since the 90s and wish I could of met him.. luckily I met Dave bc Dave Grohl bought his first home here on the Outer Banks of NC and would come and hangout at a place called Mex-Econos and can be seen with the hat in some footage and pictures.. Dave was so chill an laid back an hang with us like a regular guy an his sister Lisa would come as well lol she would work the door some nights lol his mom Virginia never came lol she likely said back at the house an NC is the reason he loves BBQ and why he makes it now lol

It's like when I have a dream
To go back to a place I once belong
But it isn't all there anymore
Its all gone
I love this did you write it yourself?
@@elisebb4457 It's my writing, and it's also truth. I often dream of going back to places I had once belonged, and seeing people who are gone or I no longer have contact with. I heavily felt this vibration when they started showing Kurt's shower. The emotion is still there and sacred.
@@nite_driver_7895 Thanks for sharing it it's beautiful
What a great guy to go with you on this quest is Scott on Tape......
Both channels content are awesome and much appreciated.....
Those doors behind you at 8:00 and around that time stamp are incredible. Wish you had gotten a closer shot. Massive.
This was extra special,truly
awesome.
It’s amazing no cops or security showed up with all those warning street signs. Thank you so much for this 🔥
Did they just break into the house?
L.A. is pretty much a free for all these days.
@@pb12661 lol not in that wealthy area!. So many people are going here, they probably don’t care and have other things to worry about
Though, I don't know when this video this was filmed, the home did list or sale in the spring. All they needed was an agent or SUPRA key/lockbox code to gain access.
This location Rocks!! And a totally awesome crossover video! Thanks for ANOTHER rad adventure, Michael!
This guy has to be Jim Carrey's younger brother, his voice and mannerisms remind us of Carrey so much. Great video, keep them coming, we'll be watching!
I was thinking the same as u
It that taken me years to realize that when we went on vacation, we would drive through Kurt Cobains home town. This episode is like Crack, I can't stop watching it. I just added the video to my "NIRVANA" collection.
I loved the man’s music. I can surely relate to it. His house is a reflection of the life he was living, a total train wreck. There just seemed no order in his life. No controlling the spiral which ultimately lead to his death. What a loss.
That spirals name: Courtney. Lol
You think thats exactly how it looked when Kurt was there? Lol
As a recovering opiate addict, no matter how much of an methodical entity you may start out as, once you're in full junkie-mode, "you couldn't organize a piss-up in a brewery" as our friends across the pond would say.
You got played, he was a millionaire,. AOC style
The hell with living there imagine getting home with 3 loads of groceries lol
yeah, but if you could use the elevator it wouldn't be that bad. certainly not convenient though. lol
Lol
I guess a small pull wagon should work ?
Pulley system
They likely have it delivered.
Very cool vid, would love to have the money to buy that place and fix it up. I'm guessing all them holes in the walls are from people walking through the place and taking a little piece as a momentous reminder of where they were.
Thanks for the video. Great job overlaying the photos in the rooms! Well done, gents.
You guys say that your amazed that house is still standing...
I’m amazed that Courtney is still standing ..
Great comment!
She sacrificed Kurt to advance her career. #CourtneyGodseesyourugly
Why do people think she killed him?
@@rebeccaofsunnybrookfarm6698 just cause it was documentary about it doesn’t mean she did it , nobody knows what happen stop making assumptions on peoples lives just cause u was fans , you on the outside looking in you have no idea what was going on in they relationship so therefore you shouldn’t make assumptions
She'll get hers if she's guilty.
Dude. Great fkn video!! I love how you show the area and then the pics of Kurt that match up with where you are in the house. Really cool bro!! Greetings from Melbourne ,Australia!
I love that you were able to get i there. I envy you.
Great, great video.
What's interesting is im teetering on "wow, this is so cool" to feeling a bit sad. You including photos makes it real that these were real human beings not just people on a record album (if that makes any sense) . Thank you!!
Thanks for sharing 🤙 it’s amazing how the house looks,
Loved his music gone to soon.
February 20/67✌🏻same day I took my first breath 🙏
Very cool. I will have to check it out next time I am now in the LA area. Thanks for the idea.
Scott is awesome and so are you. My response to this video is just the word WOW 😯. SO COOL TY!
When Scott says "What do you think Micheal?" I think he sounded like keifer Sunderland from The Lost Boys 🙃✌
"They're maggots Michael."
That’s a pretty cool reference.
Yessss
Good memory, love that movie.
This is so cool. Wish this could be done for Layne Staley’s place. I’m sure someone lives there. It’d be a dream come true.
it was an apartment in seattle
OMG you and Scott. This is EPIC!
The house has a really nice feel about it. Seeing the photos of Kurt with his child made me sad though. To think on the surface he had it all, yet still couldn't find inner peace. As a recent father I found it extra sad also. Especially with the big smile on his face with his baby.
OMG the GrimmLife and Scott OnTape mashup.....LEGENDARY!!!!
This video gave me chills thinking about the awesome history made in this house. It's amazing. That's the closet he wrote so much awesome music. Just incredible
I got the chills when they walked in that closet
Your best video so far, very well done documenting this👍🏼
Thank you for the video. It was fun to combine the places in the photographs with real places.
I would love to see pictures of this house when the original owners lived in it. I am sure it was pretty spectacular. Interesting video
Geeeez....the longer I watch towards the ending there, the more I feel like that whole property just reeks off the darkness of the early 90s....
Sunny LA is a very dark place.
Another great video this time about the legend Kurt Cobin and Nirvana Thank you I was born on April 5...... I greet you from Slovakia✌👍💪
Wow same day as my daughter who died x
They are tearing down the house thank god you guys did this video
I was so excited when Scott appeared 😊 I like watching both of your videos, so I was thrilled when I got two in one. I loved the energy you both brought.
I never knew you were actual friends with scott. I've heard you mention his name during the live streams. But that's cool you guys did this video together
This video just makes me miss Kurt and Nirvana even more. Such a cool house, wish I could buy it and fix it up. It would be nice if someone would...who appreciated Kurt Cobain.
I'm thinking about it!
@@dxcpt if you do, I’d be pleased to stop by sometime.😊
You guys are great . Thanks for taking me to all these great places in America I will never get to ☺️
Thanks Michael - you both did such an amazing job. As someone who was 15/16 when Nirvana were around growing up in Wales, seeing this is both fascinating and emotional. The overlapping of photos really brought the place to life again. Kurt touched so many people through his art/music...very much wish he was still around. I understand the bath in the house was used for the CD disc art for In Utero with a model sitting with legs hanging over the side. I have discovered both you and Scott through this. Can't wait to seek out more of your work.
My two favorite filming location guys You both make the coolest most respectful videos Thank you
Great job bro! I'm not sure if you know, but there's loads of "hidden stairs" in LA, especially up in the hills, as well as Echo Park, Silverlake, Los Feliz, etc. Lots of awesome views and interesting history, maybe even some ghostly stuff for you 😊. Plenty of info online if you wanna check them out dude!
hexersizing with michael and scott who will pass out first at the top. good video and the surprise guest was awsome .keeping it grimm AWSOME
It’s hard to believe there’s nobody who wants to restore this property based on its location alone?
I assume it’s due to some court room bullspit maybe? Sad
I would never live there imagine buying 400 hundred dollars of food at the supermarket and carrying it up to the
House. You would need a nap after you were done.🤣🤣🤣
Courtney is probably hiding a body there.
@@darrenkellman5780 residents can use the elevator he said at beginning
@Pixie nope! House still listed for sale and county records show no sale!!! Just bc she bought a house in the Hollywood hills doesn’t mean she bought this house. There’s article after article talking about the house she actually did buy, which is not this. Where are you guys getting this incorrect info from?!?
I heard Kurts daughter bought it
This was amazingly chilling! I'm so glad I found you 🤘
I'm with you Scott. Huge fan too. Never understood why you can't like both.
Love all all your Grim Life Collective adventures!
Dduuuddeee my two main channels in one!!❤❤❤❤😭😭😭😭
the house is beautiful in its own right, such awesome features, the windows and that lizard stone thing in the wall rocked not to mention the view! Awesome feeling place
It was so cool to go through the house and just talk about the house from out side.
Thank you for clearing up Patti's legacy as a drummer. That was well said I couldnt agree more.
This was awesome. I’m so glad you randomly popped up on my UA-cam feed 🤟🏻
I love watching the grim life one of my favourite UA-camrs. I also love lamont at large as well.
Yes Lamont and now there's another man who goes by Ron from Faces of the Forgotten, he is super chill like all, but go check out his UA-cam channel and come on in a let him know Regina sent you all over.. it's addicting...

I guess if he wrote his songs in the sun room they would have been a bit more happier. The closet created a darker mood.
Definitely, it's sounds weird but "weather changes mood" lol
I'm surprised no one's bought the house, fixed it up ,and has moved in. It's a beautiful home and property
Matchless photo match-ups, Michael! 🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏Many have travelled to this house, but no one has shown us the inside--and in such an impeccable, respectful way. Top tier!
So True!!! FaF
Loved seeing this home. Thanks for making and sharing.
You can see the nail in the wall where that heart thing was hanging on the wall above their bed. This whole tour is fascinating, yet sad. I’m a new subscriber, not sure how I got here, I was searching for and watching otzi the iceman videos...but I’m definitely glad I clicked.
If only I had that nail, my life would be complete...
That's what I've got my eye on when i see a space comparing to a photo taken long ago. I try to see if there is anything still visible from the photo whether it is stone wear on brickwork or whatever
In the book Heavier than Heaven, Krist Novoselic says that Curt was a horrible driver. Not reckless and dangerous but he drove a car like an old man - sometimes driving ten miles below the posted speed limit.
