Check out Madurodam with the little one. Lots to see there and you can also get an overview of some of the more famous places from all over the Netherlands. That may give you some ideas of other places to explore!

That is a good suggestion. I must admit I lived in Den Haag for several decades and only visited Madurodam as an adult when I moved away. It was a strange mistake, but I guess Madurodam is less interesting to an adolescent ;-)

I went there a couple of years ago and the service was really slow and messy and they didn't have a pin machine so we had to go to an ATM and come back just to pay. Maybe it's changed since then but it was a pretty meh experience

    I have two recommendations!
One of the best restaurants of the Hague is Krishna Vilas. They have some more expensive curries, but the dosas are cheap and somehow a dosa is even more food than a curry. Everything on the menu is delicious!
Also! Roses are in blossom and there is a free rosarium in Westbroekpark. I haven't been this season, but this week should be the week to go.

    Some more suggestions:
-Brasserie Berlage for a drink (behind het Gemeente Museum)
-The garden of het Nutshuis also as a terrace (quite hidden)
-Landgoed Clingendael (especially the Japanese garden open only a few times a year though)
-Favourite beach: by the Kwartel. Very calm, and very nice dunes.
-Do make sure to visit some of the Indonesian restaurants!!! I recommend Didong.
-Many museums to visit but I recommend the very understated Gallerij Willem V. It's very small but a great collection.

Yay! Welcome to The Hague! I would recommend visiting De Verademing in the morning, it has a huge playground with sand which is great for all ages. Anytime before 3 is best, after that lots of school kids come to play. It's also a nice place to meet other parents and there are lots of groups all over the park throughout the day (yoga, bootcamp, tai chi and boxing) It's located between 3 different neighbourhoods so the crowd is very diverse, just like the Hague 😀

Congratulations with breaking out of the Amsterdam myth! I lived for about 12 years in Den Haag, Vruchtenbuurt and we will return there when I retire. I lived there with my ex, who happens to be Australian :-) from Adelaide. We found that the best beaches were the Tussenstranden between Kijkduin and Scheveningen. Quieter. A very nice area to just stroll and enjoy snacks to eat in the park is starting at Anna Paulownaplein and walk the streets that connects the squares like Prins Hendrikplein, Koningsplein, Regentesseplein, up to Weimarstraat in summer when everyone enjoyes them selves around the fountains.
Den Haag is so much more livable than Amsterdam! Good on ya!

Well, just like in many other countries, Amsterdam is the largest, and the most important/influential city in/of the Netherlands; so, it comes naturally (with the famous name, and reputation) that the costs of living in Amsterdam are going to be higher than the costs of living in Den Haag, Rotterdam, and/or Utrecht (all, "second cities" of the Netherlands).

People should know there is more to the Netherlands than just Amsterdam. On the other hand, you know what Amsterdam is like. Let's keep the tourists in one place.
For the list about The Hague. Oh God. there is so much to do and I am not even from the Hague but I love the city.
Visit the museums. There are some very beautiful ones.

The Zuiderpark may be a nice suggestion; there is a huge open grass field flanked by a large pond, there is a "kinderboerderij" where children can pet farm animals, there is a deer camp at the other end and there is a rosarium and a miniature steam train club (they are apparently open on wednesday and sunday) among other things.
Also in the Reinkenstraat there is a bakery (bakkerij Hessing) that sells a delicacy from The Hague called "Haagse Kakker", which is a big round raisin bread filled with a rich and sweet cinnamon-like paste. Definitely worth a try!

Casey, if you live near the Haagse Markt, we live pretty close to eachother. I’m near ‘het Zuiderpark’ where every year one of the biggest free music festivals is held (Parkpop), although there is talk of moving the festival to the Malieveld, which is in the city center 😩 Being born and raised in The Hague, I’m obviously biased, but yeah, Amsterdam is fun (for like going out or a weekend), but it’s basically a tourist trap, with crazy prices. And I watch a lot of expat video’s and they all do their grocery shopping at Albert Heijn, which is the most expensive supermarket. After that comes Jumbo and the cheapest is Lidl. There’s also Dirk, Spar and Aldi, but I don’t shop there much. In the summer I usually hang out at the beach, but never in Scheveningen (too crowded). Sometimes I’ll go to Kijkduin, which is being transformed atm, but since the entire west coast of the Netherlands is basically one long beach, there are many coastal towns to visit. And if you like shopping, check out the big ass mall Leidschenhage, which is pretty new.

If you haven't grown up with the sea and its treacherous dangers here at our coast, then definitely apply "better safe than sorry". That goes for all our North Sea beaches, not just for The Hague (had most ofmy sea lessons at Terschelling island in my childhood). The currents can be indeed life threatening, illustrated by drownings very summer. Rule of thumb: be sure not to go deeper than you can stand head above water. Regionally, be very cautious around the "zand motor" near Monster. It is an artificial lump of sand in the sea designed to have sand carried up north *by the current*.

I've seen a lot of things already in the comments, so I'll skip those things. Instead I'll recommend these: if you are in the city centre, go to the Oude Molstraat. There's the oldest bakery of The Hague and they make outrageously delicious brownies. In the Gedempte Gracht, there's a chinese restaurant called Ming Kee. It looks very shabby, but they serve mostly authentic Chinese food. Most of the Chinese restaurants are catered towards the Dutch (appelmoes in the tomatensoep om het zoeter te maken, bijvoorbeeld), but this one doesn't do that. It's also near the entrance of the Chinese market, if you ever need some of those ingredients. To me the best Indonesian restaurant is De Poentjak on the Kneuterdijk. Indonesian is of course something you have to try if you live in the Netherlands. And I saw you went to a brewery, so I assume you guys like beer. Once a year there's the bierfestival in de Grote Kerk in may. So maybe next year, but it's definitely worth it. A lot of the smaller Dutch brewers and some bigger ones go there and you can taste them (you get some coins). You have to get your tickets well in advance though. And lastly, you could visit the Japanse Tuin in Clingendael, when they open again. They are opened only 8 weeks a year, and I think you have to get a ticket in advance (not sure, I went a long time ago), but it's absolutely gorgeous.

What sets The Hague apart from other Dutch cities is that it has multiple village-like communities living within, each with a center, shops and facilities. Try het Statenkwartier or de Bomenbuurt, for instance. Also, The Hague is known among Dutch cities for its many parks: het Haagse Hout, het Scheveningse Bos, de Bosjes van Poot, Clingendael, and so on! Great for a picnic or just some peace and quiet away from the busy roads.

I'd say invest in an Ooievaarspas ;) (I don't know if it functions exactly as the Rotterdampas does, but they do work together at times). That way you can get serious reductions on entry prices (and heck, some things will even be completely free).
Personally I love the kunstmuseum (voormalig Gemeentemuseum) and the Louwman Museum.

Also that one place to buy everything? That the Albert Heijn and Jumbo for you (or the other large grocers). Prices are all within like cents of each other too for the most part, it’s a very competitive market. Especially the larger version of those supermarkets have almost everything you might need if you hit up some “toko” afterwards if you need anything very specific.

Yes The Hague is so much better indeed! We have everything here that you need and that in a mix with nature and history. I would recommend you to check out Haagsche Bos, Peace Palace, other beaches like Zuiderstrand (Kijkduin), ''De Fred'' (Frederik Hendrikstraat), try out some Indonesian toko's (my personal favorites are Bumbu Jawa, Si Pentje, De Javaan), Baladi Manouche for amazing Lebanese streetfood, fresh fish (Simonis aan de Haven is great fun to sit, Simonis op de Hoek for takeaway or Het Haringhuisje), lots of nice authentic Turkish places as well. Grapes & Olives is a winebar behind Noordeinde Palace and has a great terrace on the canal. Mauritshuis is a beautiful museum, just like Kunstmuseum Den Haag. Don't forget Westfield Mall of the Netherlands which recently opened! For grocery shopping I recommend going to the large asian stores like Amazing Oriental or Wah Nam Hong, Turkish supermarkets like Maxi Maki for meat, Lidl supermarket (I usually go to the one in Nootdorp since parking is better, there is a Jumbo next to it and some other convenient stores) or Jumbo Food Markt in the Mall. One of the very few downsides of The Hague is that Albert Heijn is everywhere and you almost have no other option if you want to do your groceries close to the city center.

Albert Heijn isn’t so bad really , ask for their customer card, buy the discounts, look at store brand goods, cheaper and good quality close tomA brands. Just don’t do a one stop shopping trip. If you have time and are close enough buy things like potatoes, onions, tomatoes, paprika’s , eggs, etc at a farm, straight from the farmer. A lot cheaper and fresh. The The Hague central Market is fun but more expensive then the Leyweg market. You can also download the reclamefolder app that will allow to look at all the big supermarket chains promotion. Very worth while for things like beer, chicken etc.

That's why you can eat the best Indonesian food at some places in Den Haag. Beach activity is dependent on location... for example if you go to the beach at Scheveningen, you won't see that much for its not allowed there, due to the amount of people there often.
And Chinatown, lol... it's basically 1 street where a bunch of chinese shops are...
The Hague Market... yeah, that's great.
    For other places, visit:
Oud Rijswijk (Herenstraat, tram 1 and 15),
    Van Hoytemastraat and Weissenbruchstraat
Beeklaan (down from the crossing Laan van Meerdervoort)
    Uithof
    winkelcentrum In de Boogaard
also, the city center shopping is a LOT larger than most people realize. It's between the Torenstraat-Jan Hendrickstraat-boekhorststraat and Central Station, and between Bierkade-dunne bierkade-zuidwal-Schedeldoekhaven and Javastraat
Visit "Het Mauritshuis" next to the parliament.

the beach south of the harbor entrance is called zuiderstrand all the way to beyond kijkduin. people only mention duindorp or kijkduin to indicate what part of the zuiderstrand they mean.
funny detail most people don't know is that there is just a very small part of the beach that is technically actually part of the city of the hague (while the rest is all either scheveningen, duindorp or kijkduin) and it's the part where the nude beach is. if you tell people that the beach of the hague is almost completely meant for nudists you'd technically be correct.
