The reason Tamriel remembers Ysgramor's migration rather than the Nedic ones is because Ysgramor's Atmorans didn't end up getting put underfoot and enslaved by Mer.

I just made a new nordic mage build using some mods, he's a nordic history enthusiast and is as true a nord as any. However, he follows the old ways and is a mage and seeks to become greater than any of the dragon priests of old, even taking on his own dragon name. This video just inspired me even more to play on him and keep him as nordic as possible. He has no mercy for elves, reveres the dragon but devours their souls. Either it was an old elven site where the summer-magic slowly faded, or a volcanic area which changed over time, or else it was just a fable - a warped spoken history, the old speaking well of their old homes. I tend to think the first one is fairly likely, as the Nords seem quite intrigued by patterns and motifs as well, which could be inspired by the elven ruins. You could see their rune-work motifs as crude copies of the flowing Ayleid or Altmeri lines. I also think that the fact they share a reverence for winged things and things of the air, to be a curious coincidence, not just in the divine analogies.
Atmora is closer to Greenland, Antarctica or the far north of Canada. Atmora is less hospitable than Skyrim and more or less permanently icy. Alaska and the real world Nordics are more like Skyrim than Atmora.
You have strange taste. I found it a rather uncultured and barbaric video... unlike his more informative videos based on actual historical elven lore...
Ya, I know. You made this comment months ago. In my game, all my characters know each other. 2 Of my characters are from an alternate faction in high elf society. They are the Family Le'Fey. Both work against the Dominion. Makes for some interesting game play when you pit yourself on the other side of the battle.

The War of the Bend'r-mahk. It's mentioned in the Pocket Guide to the Empire, 3rd Edition. Also referenced in the Knights of the Nine Divines DLC for Oblivion. And explored in the spin-off game "Shadowkey" for old mobiles. Funny observation; the Reach as described in the Pocket Guide, 1st Edition is nothing like we see it in Skyrim. However, the *Western Reach* as decribed under the High Rock section is very much fitting with the Forsworn. So it looks like the Nords held onto land from High Rock, at the very least.
sound is like waves of particles carrying energy or some shit so in a way both are energy blasts from the mouth monkey saiyans shoot lasers from mouth xd
So what y’all are saying is that the nords came from a land of the ice and snow, from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow? And the hammer of their gods drove their ships to new lands to fight the mer, and sing and cry “ sovengarde we are coming”? Sounds familiar..
Ya, me too. I'm sure you know that Microsoft bought Bethesda. My Son believes that Microsoft will only release TES VI on Xbox. I don't believe this. It's not in their best interest. They would effectively alienate half of the gaming community. That is not a wise business decision.
I remember this guy (he was a really cool fellow, we had a fun debate going about Ysgramor and the Snow Elves) who said that from the Falmers' perspective, a bunch of immigrants just showed up to your country and started claiming it as their own when you and your forefathers had been living there for time immemorial. I kinda think that from the Atmorans' perspective, it was like coming back to your ancient ancestors' estate and finding out that a bunch of squatters have been living there for centuries. Worse still, it's your ancient enemies.
We are currently in the Skyrim Dark Ages. The Nords have been servants of the Empire for centuries, and have slowly decayed because of infectious Cosmoploitainism. The same thing happened to the Imperials themselves; the old ways were more advanced, more powerful, more worthwhile, but the Empire has grown fat, lazy, and is now rotten to its core.
In short? Because Tamriel is regressing, not advancing, technologically and magically. While a fictionalized version of history, the in-game book series "Last Year of the First Era" makes a point of the coming of the 2nd Era changing everything, which lines up pretty well with the current state of things. Another possibility is that things only seems more badass and advanced in the past because we're looking back with incomplete information.
@@TheTdroid honestly id argue that its less to do with regression and more with the lack of a central power thats invested in skyrim. the high kings under the empire seem to have less power over the other holds than they did when independently ruling, so great feats of architecture and such just aren't as possible. take ancient Egypt for example. the pharaohs ruled with an incredibly tight grip due to their control of the nile, and hence their word was absolute and unquestionable in most cases. thats really what made the pyramids possible. compare them with, for example, the later Muslim caliphs and sultans who would rule Egypt. they either didn't have the same power, wealth, and influence as the pharaohs of old did, or like the ottoman sultans were more interested in bettering their capital and the real core of their empire, and so even tho they were all more technologically advanced than the ancient Egyptians, none left such longlasting monoliths.
@@iwonakaplon3399 Prior to ESO, I would've been on board with an interpretation of Elder Scrolls lore that says that it isn't less advanced, but that the older eras have fallen so far into legend that it was overstated. But with ESO, we can see that everywhere we visit and can compare, it seems less primitive in the 2nd Era.
Hey thanks for great vids im just now in 2022 getting deep into the skyrim and its lore and find it insightful and entertaining think you have done great job of it.
1) Snow Elves presumably like cold weather 2) Magnus was the architect of Mundus, so presumably the Eye of Magnus could assist the user in re-architecting the world 3) Ysgrammor was so angry/concerned about what the Snow Elves were going to do (or had already done) that he felt the need to eliminate them entirely 4) Atmora froze over the following centuries, forcing its abandonment My theory is that the Snow Elves were trying to use the Eye to remake the world to have a climate suitable for them. Ysgrammor saw this as genocide and worldwide destruction. He was able to stop them from completely remaking the world, but they changed enough that Atmora would be doomed to freeze.
I would guess it was more reactionary. The Snow Elves wanted to keep the Eye of Magnus from the Nords because they were not nearly as advanced or intelligent. The nords fought back and lost. Then came back and started wiping out the Falmer, then the Falmer used the eye to try and freeze Atmora, but lost anyway.
I don't know why, but Bethesda lost a lot of their creativity after Morrowind. Vvardenfell has such a deep, rich and alien culture. It felt like a legitimate alternate reality. And all regions have amazing lore, but the last few games have watered down their unique qualities.
@@LogicAndCompassion Michael Kirkbride and all those creatives who made the Elder Scrolls lore great have either retired or are making their own game and lore. Like Julian Lafey ( Julianos ) making Wayward Realms
@@LandStrider23 Yeah. They were like a dream team of creators. It's just sad, because I've seen very few games that can deliver a true fantasy these days. We are lacking in truly unique worlds. Everything is a stale copy of another fantasy giant's work. Some water down Tolkien, others ripoff Star Wars and Star Trek. The vast majority are just a vanilla medieval setting. Only a few have come close to that alien, otherworldly feeling that Morrowind does so well. Elden ring is the closest, but lacks a living breathing fantastical culture. The Witcher 3 did great with its creature design. Cyberpunk nailed it, in the alternative culture department. But nothing has hit all the same notes at once. I just want to meet a genuinely unique culture and world again.

Atmora is closer to Greenland, Antarctica or the far north of Canada. Atmora is less hospitable than Skyrim and more or less permanently icy. Alaska and the real world Nordics are more like Skyrim than Atmora.
@NATIK001 well, there were at least enough trees to build ships and homes and such. Fire. So it wasn't just icy tundra.
now this... THIS is a good video. much better than your ELF videos.
You have strange taste. I found it a rather uncultured and barbaric video... unlike his more informative videos based on actual historical elven lore...
Seems like 6 elves hated this video. Figures, damn elves.
Ya, I know. You made this comment months ago. In my game, all my characters know each other. 2 Of my characters are from an alternate faction in high elf society. They are the Family Le'Fey. Both work against the Dominion. Makes for some interesting game play when you pit yourself on the other side of the battle.
@@curtisfranzen986 I love playthroughs like this. It makes everything more interesting
Oh fuck yeah!!! I've been waiting for this, thank you FudgeMuppet my favorite lore channel.
The amount of work and research that must go into these videos is incredible, and the final product is amazing. I love how much you get into character, it really adds so much and brings the stories to life for me.
Took me till now to realize that the only true way to play SKYRIM as intended is as a NORD.
Praise talos the veil has been lifted from thy eyes
I like how Vivec found "Only frozen bearded kings" dude lives in hell on earth lol Lava, ash and heat everywhere with only fungi growing and everyone looks like a demon. Sounds pretty cool tho :v
@fudgemuppet - was Solstheim an island at the time of Ysgramor or did it become an island during the Dragon War when Miraak battled Vahlok?
Finally found a replacement for Shobbycast Elder scrolls lore and that my friend, is not something I think I would EVER say, shobby cast is the Bethesda Lore GOAT video maker but stopped making stuff on elder scrolls many years ago:((
But man I'm so stoked, just as I'm getting back into playing Elder Scrolls Online as well, what a gift. Let's goooo!!!! Have you considered doing any lore videos on classes in eso? If there even is any beyond the little bit in character creation.
Reference to the war in which Nords claimed "huge swathes of High Rock and Hammerfell" please.
@@TheTdroid cool, thx

So, 11th of November 2011?

Thanks Drew, I'm in tears! Glorious video!!! Gods watch over your battles guys!
I wonder how many of ysgramor's men started practicing throwing their swords after the death of the snow prince
I'm so bored or skyrim but I still like watching these videos.
Skyrim the best
Dragonball Z: screaming makes you stronger
Skyrim: shout to use words of power.
Nords are Saiyan.
sound is like waves of particles carrying energy or some shit
so in a way both are energy blasts from the mouth
monkey saiyans shoot lasers from mouth xd
I wonder what the Nords did when Tongues got sick from a cold with a bad cough?
That midnight bowl of cereal was nicely times it seems
6 days for a video about nords? The disrespect. Kidding, thanks for the vid mate.
It's kind of cool that Nords can use tonal magic though. Tonal magic is probably one of my favorite lore concepts
So what y’all are saying is that the nords came from a land of the ice and snow, from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow? And the hammer of their gods drove their ships to new lands to fight the mer, and sing and cry “ sovengarde we are coming”? Sounds familiar..
Its weird how Nords and Orcs are quite similar
Nords are America orcs are Mongolians
@@Jester4460lol what?
@Jester4460 Nah nords are more Norwegian than American

“Oh shit fudgemuppet uploaded, let me watch this all the way through and then three more times this week”
For glory! For Sovngarde!!!!!
I have been waiting for you to upload something during this boring quarantine.
As stubborn as they are, I am really surprised why nords didn t try to get independent until now.
My favorite race ! Love the nords ! I also like the cold
This videos are holding me over until we get more info on TES VI
Ya, me too. I'm sure you know that Microsoft bought Bethesda. My Son believes that Microsoft will only release TES VI on Xbox. I don't believe this. It's not in their best interest. They would effectively alienate half of the gaming community. That is not a wise business decision.
Idk if u saw FUDGEMUPPET but r u up for a challenge to make a build revolving around a shield
Literally every other race: *uses conventional warfare*
Nords: Just do what I do when I have problems.. **S C R E A M**
I never realised how much the Nords look like Triple H
How is it, that the current nords seem to be less technologically advanced than the atmorans?
I've always wondered why the Dragonborns were not a revered religiously in Cyrodiil, despite most Dragonborn being Imperials.
Because they're not as special as the Nords think they are.
Nords also are really good blacksmiths.
Not as good as Orcs or Dwemer.
@@VanityOfEliCLeestalhrim, bloodskaal blade, dragon priest gear, etc

Hey thanks for great vids im just now in 2022 getting deep into the skyrim and its lore and find it insightful and entertaining think you have done great job of it.
We used to be adventurers like you then we got quarantined
1) Snow Elves presumably like cold weather
2) Magnus was the architect of Mundus, so presumably the Eye of Magnus could assist the user in re-architecting the world
3) Ysgrammor was so angry/concerned about what the Snow Elves were going to do (or had already done) that he felt the need to eliminate them entirely
4) Atmora froze over the following centuries, forcing its abandonment
My theory is that the Snow Elves were trying to use the Eye to remake the world to have a climate suitable for them.
No dude the Snow Elves attacked the Nords cause they feared the Eye of Magnus and didn't want the Nords to discover it
Nord = Fuck death, fuck magic, fuck cold, forever warrior.
Remember how nords used to be like celts? What happened to that?
@@LandStrider23 Might sounds funny, but Hellblade: Senua's sacrifice was the closest thing I've gotten, to a game that completely transports me to an alien, unreliable world.
Wow ur Skyrim looks insane
Atmora = Aldmeris but the histories are distorted because of a dragon break
piss off
And pretty cold and mostly devoid of elves afaik. But okay
From all the lore I’ve heard from this channel it would seem that all the outer continents of the world are destroyed drawing the inhabitants towards Tamriel. All except for Akavir. Maybe they are particularly resilient to whatever force destroys the other continents. That or maybe they are hosting a massive battle royale😂
Holy shit... I think my head just exploded....
Just here to save your time, nords are just almost hairless imgas and that shouting is just their bad breath, I hope this helped and remember to inform your local Thalmor justiciars of any suspecting behaviour
