Just how good is the Sig P365XL pistol?

- We give our take of the P365XL 9mm pistol. I admit, we were not expecting to like this pistol as much as we did. However, the 365XL is an absolute winner.
This pistol was incredibly accurate. It has exceptional sights, ergonomics, and, ready to accept a Red Dot Optic.
We loved the way the gun shot. It was easy to deliver quick hits on target and was one of the softer shooting compact pistols we've shot. Reliability was excellent. The fact is, the 356XL is easy and fun to shoot.
Our only concerns were; 1) The magazine release button is so close to the frame it's difficult to actuate. 2) The pistol comes with two 12 round magazines (even though Sig makes a 15 round mag for this pistol). we believe Sig would have done better if they had shipped these pistols with both a 12 round and a 15 round magazine. 3) Sig charges almost $50 per extra magazine and given the components, I believe Sig is over charging for their magazines.
Bottom line, I highly recommend this pistol. It's perfect for EDC and a solid option for your personal protection needs.
Even with the release of the “Macro” model, I’m not giving up my XL anytime soon. Carries extremely well, lightweight, trim and accurate with 15 round capacity. Everything I want in a carry firearm.

My macro gets hot and the xl slide is a winner for me. Not a big fan of the comp design with velocity loss.
@@awesomedave8484 Not sure the velocity loss has any measurable impact on effectiveness of cartridge on close range engagements. An inch of barrel length maybe but this isn't that. I'd almost be willing to bet that when chronographing both weapons the differences in velocity would be within variance of one round to the next out of either.

@SonOfTheDawn515 different is enough that you have to be very picky on you ammo jhp choices bc a 3 inch barrel isn't enough velocity for about 80 percent of the offerings. So yes it does make a big difference
RATHER THAN THE 15 ROUND MAG I got the Magguts +2 kits for my 12 round mags. I now have 14 round mags that don't even add 1/8 inch to the length of the grip. With concealment being a major issue for me because I am a smaller guy, that is important. The mags are still 100% reliable, even after holding ammo for 6 months. The gun feels like it was designed specifically for my hand. I too am more accurate with it than I was expecting. I cannot imagine ever replacing it.

I got mine a few months ago to replace my Sig P938 with 7 round capacity. I live in Connecticut so I have the ten round mags. The sights on the gun are fantastic. Very easy to conceal. My favorite gun by far to carry.
Yes, I agree with everything you said. Great sights, decent trigger and very concealable. I personally was surprised by the accuracy. I was able to deliver solid results without having gotten to know the pistol.

I just got an XL to take the daily duty from my 938. Jury is still out but sure carries nice. Miss the 938 trigger

I agree with your cons about it looking for a few 15 round mags for the extra grip length. Find the P365XL fits great in my hand, very comfortable to carry and I was very surprised that out of the box it shot so well.
You might look into Magguts for 12 round Sig magazines. You remove the internals of the magazine, and instal the Magguts product. It’s thin flat metal instead of coiled spring. This allows you 14 rounds in a 12 round mag. Runs about $35

@@tomconley2458 I considered the mag guts conversion but feel dubious about reliability since they're new. I'd like to see a test done on them after about 5,000 rounds before I'd feel comfortable enough to rely on them. Plus I have other concerns but I made my main point.

I've had my p365xl since July of 2019 I love this gun I haven't had any issues with it. I've been buying other firearms and still carry my p365xl haven't found one I like better.

About that mag release...For years, I've batted around the idea of switching the magazine release to the left-handed position thinking it would be easier to manipulate with my pointer finger. I always talked myself out of it because, well, I never heard of a right-handed shooter doing it. Just last week, I decided to break with status quo and switched it the left-handed position. Holy smokes, I'll never go back. My finger finds the release with much less shifting than I had to do when it was installed right-handed. I train with both my P365X and P365XL on a daily basis. It only took a coupld of days to get used to it. You should try that.

I think they are great guns...I retired my glock 43x to the safe in favor of the SIG P365x with a red dot. The glock 43x with shield mags offer a few more rounds but carrying appendix its grip sticks out alittle further than the SIG. Mine has never jammed on any ammo including my reloads. I'm a first time gun owner and literally fell into the vortex of the Hellcat Pro/P365 Macro, M&P Shield talk. Glad you're reviewing the P365Xl off-trend: I'm lurking on a P365XL w/Wilson grip & manual safety as my next piece. By that time maybe the P365 Macro slide will be available as a stand alone.

The macro slide and the XL slide are the same…
I have an XL with a Wilson Combat grip module(Armory Craft) and Wilson pinkie extension for 12 round magazine(Sig Guy). Just feels better in my hand than the standard Sig grip(a little fatter and allows for better finger placement on the trigger. As for the mag release, I switched out the Sig release to the Vuurwapen (straight serration) extended magazine release for P365. Much easier to feel for and doesn’t interfere with my Vedder light tuck IWB holster with optic cutout. I also installed a Holosun 507KX2 green dot. All in all a good choice for EDC

Magguts +2 for the 12 round mags to make them 14, and the WC grip to help with mag release issues. It's a phenomenal carry.

I've had my XL for about a year now, recently installed the Wilson Combat grip and at 10 yards I'm consistently "blowing the lung out" of the target. I love the idea of 17 rounds from the new x macro, but I don't like the idea of a shorter barrel length just to have a ported slide. IF I can use the 17 round mags in my xl, it's all good.

You are correct regarding the mag release button. I changed to the extended after-market and it seems to work much better. Like you, I'm still in break-in mode, bot I LOVE this pistol.

I wear size XXL gloves so I didn't experience any of the issues you had with your small size hands with the mag release being difficult to actuate. With the 10 round mag in my standard P365 I tuck my pinky under the bottom of the 10 round mag for a decent grip, but the 12 round mag allows a full 3 finger grip which is obviously better. The great thing is that since this is a modular gun I can swap the frame to the XL frame in a couple of minutes and don't need to buy a whole new gun.

I have both a P365XL and a P938. The P365XL is not a micro gun, the P938 is. The P365XL is what I would call a subcompact. But, it's a great sub compact. The regular 365 is on the borderline of a micro or subcompact. Make no mistake, they are great.

I installed the aftermarket mag release button on mine, problem solved. I also put a Hogue "HandAll" beavertail rubber grip sleeve on it, huge difference in the way it feels in the hand!

I got a Tristar T-100.
Before I took it to the range. I racked the slide a thousand times, and I pulled the trigger a thousand times. Of course with a snap cap dummy round. I put a thousand rounds through it, and not one single problem. I kind of pre-broken it in before taking it to the range.
I’ve carried the same gun for about five years, and I’ve had no issues with it. Excellent firearm for the price. The finish came off pretty quickly, but who cares its a tool

I changed the magazine release to a very expensive one ( don’t recall the name but it was a brand name), took it to the range and after every single round the magazine would fall out, and when I placed my hand underneath to hold it in place it would not pick up a round. Drove home installed the original magazine release went back to the range and my 365XL worked great. My other problem was I removed the rear sight plate and installed a Holosun red dot, upon removing those tiny screws I stripped one and had to purchase them from Sig and as you already know it’s $69 because they sell the screws, plate and the sights which is a total rip off.
Anyway the 365XL is one of my favorites, it shoots smooth and I put it in my carry rotation next to my Hellcat and my Glock 43x MOS.

I also stripped out one of the coverplate/rear sight screws. I contacted Sig customer service and they sent me one free of charge. You can also find the screws from other vendors (when in stock)
MidWest Gun Works has them currently in stock (stainless steel) for $6.89 each (Sig P365XL sight screws)
Also in my previous post, I swapped out the original Sig mag release for a Vuurwapen extended mag release. It works perfectly, and sticks out a little further and in line with the grip, not angled like the factory installed one. Omaha Outdoors has the kit currently in stock for $35(Sig P365 mag release)

A funny and true story when I got into the game back in 2009 and after a few years got better I purchased my first Wilson Combat, a friend of mine told me “stop wasting money on firearms because one day you will end up carrying a 22LR” my reply was “that will never happen “ . Now living in Hot Sunny FL most of the time (60-70§%) I carry my Ruger LCP Max . I have great comfortable holsters, PhLster Enigma Express, Tenicor, Vedder, and JX tactical, and I carry a Sticky pocket holster ( made for a Glock 42 I placed a small piece of rag inside and it brings the LCP to the perfect height) so for my friend was very much on track 😂. It took a while for my wife to convince me to wear shorts after we moved here so that plays out the role for carrying the LCP.

I have that same clock you have in the background 😂 picked one of these up a couple months ago with sig romeo red dot and the 2 extra 15 round magazines. Had a few issues first time out but took it apart and cleaned it up so will take a few new guns to the range this week.

I added the Wilson Combat grip and knocked down the texture a bit....what a winner. I liked that its optic compatible but really dont see a need to go that route with it

I fully agree, that magazine release is too flush. My sister just bought one and that's the first thing a notice about it when i handled it, I have large size hands.

The mag release is fine. I have a Taurus pt140 pro and the mag release can sticking out and pushed by various reasons easy. The last thing you want under stress is the mag falling out.
I appreciate you commenting and sharing your perspective. For me it’s difficult to activate and reach. I think if it were protruding just a little bit more, it would be ideal. Nevertheless, I certainly hear you about how the magazine release could present a problem if inadvertently activated.

Not only don't they give you the 12 and 15 mags- if you get one with a Romeo Zero optic they don't include the plate if you want to take the optic off - so you've got to buy it for another$70.00 (from Sig) though there may be cheaper options - otherwise a great firearm after initial break in - trigger a bit "mushy"

I just acquired a XL and am shocked about how great it is. I love the modularity, but most importantly, the tight package it is. I have been carrying a 226, and while it is surprisingly easier to carry, the XL exceeds in it. Of course, that’s the point of the XL entirely, however, I was pleasantly surprised. I agree with your assessment, as well, regarding the shoot ability of the pistol. I’m large and this pistol had virtually no recoil to speak of. I disagree with those who say it’s overly snappy. It’s a small framed pistol there will be recoil movement, but that is to be expected. Admittedly, I’ve not shot a ton out of it, that being said, there are a few pistols where I’ve shot the first mag out of it and knew it wasn’t for me. This is not the case on this one. It will be my CCW for awhile, especially during the hot summer Texas months. Great video!
Sir, thank you so much for commenting. I 100 percent agree with what you said! I remember the first time I shot the P365. This is the subcompact version. And I was completely shocked by its accuracy and overall performance. I liked it so much I went out and bought a P365 XL.
The 365xl been my primary carry gun for months now. I was recently traveling in the Southwest and spent a lot of time at different ranges. Since this was the only pistol I brought it got a fair amount of use. I think I went through 1500 rounds of ammunition in a five week. Period. .l
In general, I prefer, shooting full-size pistols, when I am training or teaching. But, for an every day carry peace, this is an outstanding pistol!
The P365 XL and my Glock 48 are the two primary pistols I use for every day carry. I did shoot 365 macro comp. That thing blew me away but I’m not quite ready to dump 1000 bucks into that platform yet.

My daughter and I just bought our 365 XL’s (her first gun) last month. She shot a couple of pistols and like the 365, but she didn’t like how snappy it was so I bought a XL to see if she would like it better. We went the next day to get her’s. The only thing I didn’t like initially was that the magazine was a little harder to seat with the slide forward, and I like a full mag with one one the chamber.

I shoot this gun very well! It is my only carry gun. My hand fits it perfectly and I can also shoot fast. Out of the box night sights and extra mag. If your considering one, shoot it first. If you don’t have that Ah Ha moment, then don’t buy. I had the Ah Ha moment…

The feel is very very small and thin. For people with small hands these are exceptional. Those with larger hands and longer fingers, you'll find yourself fumbling. Not good. Also as he pointed out in the vid, the trigger pull length is short. Very short. Many shooters are surprised the subsequent shots 'fire' before they anticipated they would.

Here in Massachusetts you can only get a magazine with 10 rounds.
My XL has the manual safety which I like. When I bought it I went ahead and got the 15 round magazine also. I have swapped out the grip module for one from Wilson Combat. Indoors, outdoors, this pistol is always within reach.

An idea if you do a follow-up on this gun OR if you review another pistol with a green front sight; take it out into the woods and show us how well that green dot shows up against "green" foliage. I expect that it would show up well because it is a different color green from the leaves and bushes, but we'd like to see it. Good review, thanks. This might be my next carry pistol.
Thanks for the suggestion. The reality is when you have a firearm with a front sight that has a green on the outline of tritium you have no problem seeing the front side if there’s a lot of foliage. I carry one daily. 12 round flush mag w a 15 round backup mag. Edit: I added a mag guts +2 follower mod. So 17 round backup

Really liked your video and feedback on the 365 XL . Shopping around as a first time starter with guns. What do you think of the Sig 365 XL for a beginner?
I would actually recommend a full size handgun like the M&P 4.25 inch barrel for the Glock 19. Learning to shoot on a smaller gun like the Sig P365 XL can be challenging. Much better to start with a full size or compact a handgun versus a subcompact. There are lots of options out there. I suggest you go to a gun range, and Wren several different guns and find the one that fits your hand the best.
Also, once you acquire whatever firearm you select get formal training. Take as many classes as you can afford and put your skills to the test.

love the pistol, however a recent bad experience really disappointed me. used as a edc and the rose/gold coated areas all show corrosion and sig sauer will not cover it under warranty! very disappointing
Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry to hear that. It seems that that should definitely be covered under warranty.
Frankly, I think Smith & Wesson has the best warranty in the marketplace. Anytime I’ve had anything go wrong with one of their products I sent it back and they immediately fix it. No cost no pushback no questions asked.

My only complaint is that loading the magazines will beat up your thumbs. For sure needs a Mag loader.
Yes, loading the magazines especially when they’re brand. New is a real challenge. A mag loading tool really helps.

I remember when this gun first came out. It was close to the Glock 48 release, which I bought over this handgun. When this handgun first came out 3-4 years ago didn’t it have some issues with the slide or ejector? I don’t recall for sure which but I do remember it having some pretty serious issues. Im considering buying one of these again but just wondered if SIG ever fixed the issues that it had? Thanks!
Thanks for commenting. I had heard something about that too but believe Sigg fixed the problem. I like you I ended up going with a Glock 48 but after shooting a couple of the 365XL‘s I thought I’d give it a try. So far I’ve been super impressed. It may I become my primary EDC pistol.

I have the Standard P-365. If I want to carry a larger gun, I'd carry my Glock 19.

Yes, I’ve heard the rumors of that. Nevertheless the 365 XL is a great compact pistol. It’s very easy to shoot fast and accurately. It’s been reliable for me and certainly has earned a place in my every day carry rotation.

I have two Macros, the TacOps version. Just as concealable as the XL and 17+1 rounds, too!
Is it easy for a smaller woman to conceal in warm/hot weather? I tried it at my local range and liked it a lot, but I wonder if I would be able to conceal it year-round (I live in TX, where it gets super hot as early as late April/early May and I hate wearing a ton of layers in warm weather).
Yes, for sure it easily concealable in any weather. Alternatively you could go for the 365 Micro. Hope you'll check out some of the other content and subscribe.

It’s even better with the Wilson grip!!! Least for me easier to grab out of a holster little wider n more control n my hands are just average grown man size hands

Always use 15 rd magazines
I am using a magazine spring that allows 14 rounds in the magazine versus 12. This gives me a 15 round capacity in a small easily concealable frame. I do also have a couple of the 15 round magazines. Thank you for watching and commenting. I hope you will subscribe to the channel.
I like the standard Sig 15RD magazines
Green dots/reticles flare or starburst for me. The red dots/reticles on the other hand, are clear and don't do that. Everyone else I asked about that said it should be the other way around. Go figure.

Not that good. Trigger pull is too long and so is the reset. Also, sights are hard to see and too much recoil, which makes it hard to keep on target. Since the handle is so small, it makes it hard to hold stead from side to side and up and down.
Thanks for sharing your perspective. I had a different experience. I felt the trigger was good… as was the reset. As a compact pistol I feel it offers a solid package… accurate, shootable and reliable !
I will carry a 19 till sig figures out and gets a good track record right now they look like a shitty company that won't even except blame for there guns going of especially when they make a gun that has no safty measures if fire spring fails wtf that's negligence.
The G19 is one of my favorites.

Sir, thanks for watching and commenting. I haven’t found the hyper access a problem at all. It’s actually one of the more softer shooting compact pistols that I have. As far as looks goes, I don’t really care. I’m looking for a solid reliable tool that will get the job done if I ever needed it.
I feel it’s slightly more concealable than my Glock 48 and so far it’s more accurate.
