I've had the P365 for a couple years. It's had some issues that required it to be sent back to Sig for repairs. I have about 3,000 rounds through it. That being said and I don't like to admit this but I dropped the gun chambered from about 4 feet off the ground in a momentary laps of coordination. It bounced off the tile floor and landed again sliding across the room. It did no fire, so I can confirm that it is indeed drop safe without a safety. Also can confirm that the pucker factor was intense watching it fall in slow motion.

I think if most people who handle guns regularly were forced to admit it, they'd tell you they've done it at least once. We're only human, despite training and regimen and making the right movements...physics happens, our hands aren't perfect tools, and the brain they're controlled by isn't flawless.

I have adhd and I drop everything and I always have to force myself to slow down. Well like I said, I drop everything. It happens to me more than I’d like but that’s why you always need to have a quality firearm.

I have also unfortunately had this happen haha. I had a holster break on my and I was unaware. It went flying out with a round chambered when i jumped. Fall test was a success. And actually didn't mark the gun that much.

I think I would poo a little. Dropping the loaded weapon is something that has never occurred to me until I got a pistol. I got a Ruger 1911 and it has no firing pin block, but a titanium pin so it may or may not be drop safe. It just has never crossed my mind before.

I have dropped a Pistol a time or two, while taking the gun out, or taking the gun and holster off, because I was in the Army and we dropped them things occasionally, because most are hooked with a lanyard to the belt. . Darn lanyard threw off.

Bought this gun based on all the positive reviews. Got it home and noticed there was some slide movement in the trigger right before the break. The slide also moved up and down with a click which could be felt when practice drawing the gun. Removed slide and discovered the FCU was loose in the grip module. Called sig and they said this was normal. I decided to do my due diligence and proceeded to visit every gun shop in the Nashville area over the next couple of weeks to test out other p365xl pistols. Out of about 12 pistols I tested I found zero FCU movement. No slide movement in the trigger before the break or slide movement up and down when drawing. There is a forum on the internet of people who have had the same issues as me with the FCU so I know that it is a problem, but no way normal since I couldn't find another pistol with the problem in my area. So I ordered a new grip module from Sig for $76 shipped and swapped the FCU to it. Now there is no more slide movement in the trigger before the break or up and down when drawing. I called Sig and told them about my journey and how I fixed the issue and asked them to send me a replacement grip module for the original defective one and they flat refused and still maintained it is normal. A grip module cost Sig maybe 5 dollars to manufacture and 5 dollars to ship. $10 would have resolved my issue and made me happy and that was too much for Sig. It's a nice gun after I had to drop $76 on it for a new grip but the fact that Sig sold me a defective pistol and then claimed the defect is normal, even though I couldn't find another one in my area with a loose FCU, really has turned me off of Sig. They need to look up the definition of normal. Normal would mean they all have FCU movement. They don't. Which makes it abnormal. Who wants slide movement in the trigger right before the break? It feels gross and the loose FCU made the whole gun feel sloppy. It's fixed now, at my own expense, but Sig has lost a customer for now.

I guess I'm not super shocked. They didn't issue a safety recall on the P320, which had a tendency to go off without pulling the trigger, resulting in quite a few cops taking bullets in the leg. That was a pretty big lawsuit.

I’ve always been a Smith & Wesson guy, and I’m especially found of the M&P series.
I’ve been rocking a .9mm Shield for some time now and it’s still my favorite CCW of choice.
      It’s a fantastic gun!
To trust that your weapon is not going to fail you when you may need it the most has got to be one of the single most important factors concerning reliability and trustworthiness in a firearm.
Having said that, I got turned off from the P365 early on concerning all the reports of it malfunctioning and so forth!
I concluded that there’s no way I’m switching out from using my .9mm Shield, to something that may possess a smaller footprint, but is far less reliable and trustworthy!
What good are extra shots, when you’re not even sure if the damn thing will work or not?!!!
After reading about your experience as well, and their piss poor Customer Support, I’m only even more resolute to not waste my time with Sig!
I’m good right where I am!!

Chris - This just may be the best video you’ve ever produced - so THANK YOU - and that says a GREAT deal. There’s only one reason I wish you hadn’t produced it: I’ve been struggling with the idea of buying a P365-XL for about a year - it has EVERY attribute I favor and I have always found Sig autoloaders to be excellent - but I really don’t need another “3.5 inch barrel class” 9x19mm/.40 S&W (fwiw, I have intentionally avoided the “3.1 inch barrel class” because I want the extra sight radius, heft, and often capacity). Your highly favorable endorsement drives me a long step closer to a ~$800 expenditure (including additional mags and a holster) . . . damn it. Thanks, again, this is a SUPERB video!

  • @Durandalski

Finally someone who points out that the stats don’t actually tell you how small and concealable the XL is. I have seen a bunch of you tube comparisons just read the stats and conclude that there is little difference between the xl and say a Glock 19/26 or some other thick double stack, because they are reading the thickness stat which includes the flared magwell and safety width. In reality the gun is extremely slim and comfortable to conceal compared to those other guns. I don’t believe in a safety or carry appendix so for me the manual safety isn’t an issue, and if I had to pick one pistol to be stuck with for the rest of my life, this would be it. Its a carry gun that is comfortable to carry, holds enough rounds for a gunfight, is extremely reliable, and I actually enjoy shooting it more than most full size pistols.

As one who personally requires a safety on less-than-7lb triggers, I find the device on my recently acquired P365 just about perfect.
I've pocket carried for 20 years, using Kel-Tec micro-9s (the 10rd P11 released in the '90s and the even smaller single-stack PF9 in the 2000s) and snub revolvers. The far more refined P365 with the safety has become my new EDC; it is indeed a delight to shoot!

I just got an XL and went to the range with some friends to fire it for the first time. I can confirm that loading the magazines for the first time was challenging, even for my guy friend, and we were only able to load around seven or eight rounds due to the stiff springs. He suggested to load some in the magazine, keep them in there a while, and put some more in after a few days. It helped, and now I am able to load my magazines to full capacity (12 rounds)! Good luck!

It's worth noting that a *HUGE* reason pistol development trended the way it did is between 1994 and 2004 there was a federal limit at 10 round capacity for all new guns and magazines. This got manufacturers and buyers into habits that influenced/echo'd even after the ban was lifted.

I just bought the XL (with Safety), it's in delivery/shipment now to my FFL Dealer. I chose the option with Manuel safety due to deep woods hiking, Backpacking, brush & rock maneuvering, etc. It was a big debate for me. Yes a quality Kydex or leather holster is a must. For me it was just in case of that twig branch, or something out of the ordinary occuring touching off the trigger. So for woods it can be with safety engaged and urban carry with safety off...yet always training to sweep my safety.

  • @MylesDavid
    @MylesDavid 4 роки тому +33

Hey, BTW, you can also put the slide of the smaller regular sized P365 on top of the P365 XL’s lower grip module because both sized grip modules are the same length. So if you want a bit of a longer hand grip like on the lower regular module on the XL, and just want to use the 12 round flush mount magazines and still be able to get your pinky on it, that is a viable option if you don’t want the longer slide.
I have heard from people who have shot both sizes, that the longer size of the XL didn’t really provide any more accuracy or control over the shorter barrel and slide size of the regular P365, Which if that’s the case, and because the regular P365 handles and shoots great and is quite controllable and shoots in credibly straight already, in this case, the smaller the better for conceal carry!
I have a 2nd GEN P365 and I have put at least 5000+ rounds through it now with zero malfunctions. Let me repeat that, ZERO malfunctions! I have put several different types of ammo through it without a problem.
It shoots super straight and super great consistently. Unless I had to, I would not use the 10 round flush mount mags ever because it’s always better in my opinion if you can get your pinky on the grip. Also, because the 10 round magazine that has a pinky grip on it is like a 16th of an inch smaller than the 12 round magazine with built-in pinky grip, I wouldn’t waste my time purchasing any of those 10 round pinky grip magazines either. I would just buy a handful of 12 rounders and the bigger 15 rounders. The 15 round magazine can really stick out and print for conceal carry so I carry mine with a 12 round magazine in the gun and a 15 round magazine using a neo-mag magnetic clip inside my jeans pocket.
After shooting the Glock 26, 43, 42(380), and the shield, I would take the P365 any day over all of those! Oh and one more thing, I have pretty thick fingers but not super long and I must say being able to comfortably grip the P365 is just as easy as the Glock 42 or 43 and way better than the chunky chopped down 2 x4 of glock 26. And if you have larger hands and longer fingers and the 43 and 42 are just too difficult to comfortably hold onto and shoot, check out Lakeside I think it’s gun works. That guy actually makes an all aluminum lower grip module for the P365 with swollen grip sidewalls! So there ya go! In my humble opinion!
    Thanks for the great vid!

I something similar. I had a P365, and added a P365X. My carry gun is now the P365X with a Holosun RDS but I swapped lowers with the P365. Extending the P365 lower with a 12-round magazine yields more comfort than the P365X lower. Also, if I really need to cut down size, I can just put in a 10-round or even flush-fit 10.

I have carried the SP2022 for a while (it's basically a P229 but polymer gripped and WAAAAAY cheaper) and didn't really get why the XL would be much better with only a difference of 3 rounds capacity and .2 inches of barrel. It makes a lot more sense now.

Couldn't agree more. My EDC is the P365xl. FIts my hand wonderfully. Easy to shoot. In a vedder holster it works as my appendix every day carry. I love it. Shoots better than I do generally. This is a gun to carry daily. With 12 rounds (I don't feel even the need for the 15 round mag even though I have one) 2 of the 12 rounders are just fine. It replaced my Glock 19. And I haven't looked back.

Yes and yet this is pretty accurate to my experience. however I think is insistence on the group safety is a little bit screwy. I see no real advantage other than round count to the XL model. Oh I think correction and a slide cut. I would definitely prefer the standard 365 pistol with the cut for the optic. That is really the just right gun. But the XL is a dang sweet shooter. Really everything about it is just about perfect. The shape is good. The looks are good. The sights are good The capacity is about right, and having a backup bag with extendo.... It's a Goldilocks gun. it's kind of amazing to me that it's an easier gun to shoot well than the full size sig 226. With spicy ammo I can maybe shoot and m9 style pistol slightly better, but due to bore access and grip shape not a lot better.

The safety in the Shield is perfect for what you need it to be. I train and carry my Shield with the safety on only as a holster the pistol. Once in the holster the safety comes off. When I need to remove the Shield from my holster I engage the safety. To clear the pistol the I remove the mag and then rack the slide to clear the chamber all with the safety engaged.
I've even smoothed the under side of the safety to remove the jimping to further reduce the chance that I might engage the safety inadvertently. I bought my first Shield the day they were released. I shoot it regularly and I've never engaged it when I didn't intend to.

The PPS M2 has been my carry gun for the past 3 years and I wholeheartedly agree, such an underrated gun. I really liked the HK P9, except for the roller-delayed blow-back system which frequently wore the buffer out.
I like the thumb safety, so you can chamber the round, cock the hammer/striker, and then block the trigger and the firing pin.
This makes the gun safe, and, yet, quite quick to fire, with the flick of a thumb.
Most of us, ordinary people, don't get to practice, like gun-obsessed fanatics, so thumb-safety is very useful for infrequent users.
I liked the internal hammer, which is more reliable than a striker, and, yet, safe from dirt getting into the mechanism and jamming it.
I also liked the thumb-operated cocker/decocker, so you could de-cock it if you realized that you'd over-reacted, and then quickly re-cock it back if a threat re-emerged.
I would either have a fixed barrel with a locking block, or a rotating barrel, which should have longer life because of lower impact forces.
I prefer guns that are fatal only when aimed at the vital organs.
A fatality can get a person into a lot of trouble, so it is best avoided.
I believe mere incapacitation suffices for most scenarios; to impair the other person's ability to successfully harm you.
One can never rule anything out despite all the precautions, so just the specter of my child somehow managing to get hold of the gun and injuring himself or others is scary.
I like powerful cartridges that can travel a long distance, so, if someone is trying to kill you from a distance, you should be able to, at least, incapacitate him, even if the bullet itself is light. Profuse bleeding, itself, is incapacitating.
I still like the 0.32ACP, the 0.22LR, and the 5.7X28mm.
Somebody shot a guy who manages my estate with a 7.62x25mm Mauser. One shot broke his femur, the other went through his right bicep into his left chest and lodged itself just outside his heart.
It had very good penetration, but he, luckily survived.

    • @LuckyGunner
      @LuckyGunner  4 роки тому +107

That's a good question. A lot of times, it really does feel like a chore. I think it's like that for everyone in the gun media profession at some point. I'm not complaining... it's an amazing job and I love doing it. But it's still a job and every job has moments (or days or weeks or months) where it's hard to get too excited about the work you have in front of you. A day on the range is almost always a good day (as good as the weather, anyway), but it's definitely not always what I would call "fun."
If I have the chance to go to the range and pick my own agenda, I'm most likely going to get out the timer and put in serious practice time. Getting better at the skill of shooting is what I enjoy the most. That hasn't changed since I started the job. Sometimes that in itself feels like work. It's like that with the serious pursuit of any skill, though.
What has changed since doing this for a living is the fact that it takes a *whole lot* for me to get even remotely interested in the latest greatest new gun/accessory/whatever on the market. Honestly, I was never really much of a "chase the new shiny" person before, but now even less so. I am fortunate that I have the luxury to more or less pick the topics I want to do videos on. One of the reasons I end up exploring a lot of somewhat obscure topics (shotguns, pocket pistols, revolvers, etc) is because I get to learn new things and explore ideas that aren't necessarily mainstream. That's way more interesting to me than doing one new gun review after another.

Not enough good is being said about the safety on the Ruger Security-9. If you want a manual safety this is the one. Easy off, not easy on to engage when not wanted. Wide enough to rest on, not obtrusive. Everyone understated the amazing qualities of this pistol. That design, those features, 15+1 (17+1 available) and almost half the price of a glock? Thanks Ruger! You really nailed it!

    • @herbderbler1585
      @herbderbler1585 3 роки тому

This comment amuses me because I literally pulled out my Security-9 and started playing with the safety when he was talking the safety on the XL. You're absolutely correct, the safety is a perfect balance of easy-off harder-on (assuming you're not a lefty of course.) I have to actively try to bumblefuck deactivating the safety, it's so effortless when in a shooting grip, but not because the detent feels too weak to prevent an accidental deactivation. It just fits my hand perfectly, the exactly the right size and position. On the other side of the coin, I have to actively shift AWAY from my shooting grip and make a conscious effort to reactivate the safety. Again the detent doesn't feel too stiff or anything, they just did some kind of perfect voodoo to make it require the right moves.
They nailed quite a few things on the Security-9, especially for the price. I was at a gun store looking at an SR-9 because I borrowed one from a friend and liked it quite a bit, then the salesman said "before you make your decision you might also be interested in this other thing that just came out from Ruger." I've never had a pistol drop into my hand and feel instantly perfect like that. I went home with the Security-9 that day instead, and I've never regretted that decision for a second.

But the 365 has me slowly losing my religion). It isn't a large-sized service pistol that has been chopped. It isn't a pocket pistol that has been forced to accept 9mm.

My department just finished a test and evaluation for a department-issued duty weapon. We tested the Sig P320 (full size and compact) and the Glock (models 45 and 19). We also tested the Sig 365XL and the Glock 48. To be brutally honest with you, you really aren't gaining anything with carrying the full-sized pistols versus the new designs in hyper compact pistols like the XL and 48. Particularly when you use the aftermarket accessories to duplicate the full capacity of the compact model 19 or 320C. The 365XL and the Glock 48 are actually decent choices for ultra-lightweight duty weapons. Same capacity, nearly the same barrel length (technically the XL has a slightly longer barrel than the P320C) and sight radius. The only drawback is the slightly more pronounced recoil impulse. But, of the two, I liked the recoil management on the XL versus the model 48.

I bet Glock is missing out ona substantial market by not having safety models. They put a safety on their mhs submission, might as well put it in other models

But that would be like admitting that the Glock Safe Action is not "Perfection."

your gun must be tactical!! it has to only be a glock!! and it has to run! gun run! your not bringing a manual safety non glock to my $5000 class!- a tactical operator guy somewhere

@@Coinz8 reminds me of the people who think the only legitimate configuration for an AR-15 is Armageddon Bugout Rifle For the Inevitable Collapse of Civilization As We Know It. If you dare add any excess weight or features that would be useful for the 99.9999% of the time AR's spend as range, hunting and home defense tools, you're a total fool and "you're just going to die tired because ounces are pounds and pounds are pain!"

Kahr Arms, established 1995 had the single stack first? " Why hold a block, when you could shoot a Kahr?

This is my EDC. I bought it as soon as I could get it with the Safety. I completely agree with you on wanting a safety in a striker gun. It's my favorite handgun in a long time.
I'm waiting on aftermarket for a better safety lever. It's a super easy change.

Grip angle of Glock is why I went with sig... I like the original p365 and pocket carry it every day because I’ve got all the mag options with it (10,12,15).

The grip angle on a Glock, just does NOT work for me.

Yes Sig, please kick back a bit from the $50 mags and put some R&D into making the American EDC lifeblood safer

I have the manual safety just for reholstering. Once in the holster I can switch off the safety using the right hand lever. And the holster has a cut out for the left safety lever. When you switch off safety it falls in to the cutout and doesn’t let you accidentally turn it back on

The XL is my edc pistol. Mounted a Streamlight and even with that it is easily concealable. I second pretty much everything in the review, except mine does not have a manual safety so no comment on that. I've put about 2K rounds through it, one failure to eject on the very first time at the range. None since. Thank you for an excellent video of this firearm.

The best thing about the 365 is the duck on the back. Check at 3:30
