SigSauer P365XL review - Personal Protection Perfection?

- The SigSauer P365XL at 1.1" wide and only 6.6" long, is a great choice to carry 12 rounds (or 10 depending on your local laws) of your favorite self defense ammo. The P365XL is small but fits well in large hands and the Tritium "X-ray" 3-dot sights are easy to see in daylight and lowlight conditions. Easy field stripping for cleaning and great reliability make this a great choice for a quality CCW.

The p365 and p365XL (mainly with extended mags) is one of the most revolutionary designs Ive seen come out in the past 15 years. Not just innovative but also extremely practical and useful with an intended purpose in mind. (which is CCW).
To me, the P365XL is just about perfect for CCW. Thanks for watching!
Never really thought of it until you mentioned it, but I also am partial to the 3-dot system. Great gun!
I'm just "Ol' School" Thanks for watching Santee!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview still lots of us old school guys out there.
My Holosun has a rear sight groove built into it, it’s not quite the same as a standard 3-dot, but it makes it really easy to cowitness. So, got a little of both going on.
@@Matrim42 Nice, so you're still good if there's an electronics failure too.
Thanks Richard for another awesome review. 365XL is my EDC. Smaller SIG365 for church and home carry. Highlighted the front sight on both and installed a Hogue grip sleeve for a much improved hold. Love it. Consider the 3Speed IWB holster. I wear tucked button down shirts, and these are very comfortable to wear, great for concealability, and very well made. Stay safe and free!
It is a great little pistol. I may have to look into some other holster options for it, I can't always carry like I want. Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching!
I had an early 365 that had the striker issues. Had it back at the factory twice. Finally got it squared away, and sold it.
Then the 365XL hit the market, and I wanted to love it! Bought it as I could give someone my money... Then proceeded for 2 weeks to like it. For whatever reason, I never could warm up to it. Ended up giving it to my dad... Who loves it.
Been seriously considering another 365, now that Sig has let enough customers do there QC for them.
That XL is a good looking compact handgun tho...
To me it shoots great and feels great in my hands, I understand why your Dad like it. Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview it wasn't that it didn't shoot good,or even feel good... There was just something about it. Honestly, it was probably from all the years of carrying a Glock. It just got me outside of my comfort zone.
...the 365 would have likely been the same way,but it was a pig from the factory, and never did trust it.
I'll likely pick up another 365 of some flavor before long. I've got the itch for a new toy. 🤣
@@joeytomato I get that itch so often I sometimes wonder if I got fleas! Lol.
Good honest review. Two weeks ago I purchased the Sig P365 X and it came with the Sig Romeo Zero which is a 6 MOA. I have sense taken off the Red Dot and put the Sigs standard steel sight on it, the Red Dot worked fine but I wanted to give the regular site a shot. I love this gun.
I've always been a fan of open sights on a handgun. Thanks for watching!
I bought a hellcat for my very first pistol and hated the red dot on it. So I took it off and got pretty good with drawing from concealment and firing using open sights. Then I bought a 365xl with the red dot on it and I was shooting so well that I just couldn't bring myself to take it off. Haha so now I'm sold on red dots even if I'm not an ace with it yet. It still makes a difference once ya get used to aiming with it. However I will never rag on anyone for using open sights. I only have the one pistol with a red dot and shoot all the rest with open sights. I appreciate the effectiveness of both but man ill tell ya...that red dot pops into view so quick when you push the pistol out in front of yourself. With practice of course. If you're gettin older like I am and your sight is starting to fuzz a bit here and there I would recommend learning to shoot with a red dot if you're not already familiar with it. She's a handy gadget for sure.
@@nsob8897 I have nothing against red dots, I'm just not used to shooting them on a pistol, so they seem a little weird to me. I've always shot open sights and so far, my eyes are okay at arms length and further!
I'll have a "Loaner" Hellcat RDP available in the future so I recon I may have to practice up a bit when I get my hands on it. Thanks for watching!
Yours is the first video I’ve seen of this gun. Looks sweet!
It shoots great and fits my big old hands well. Thanks for watching Dustin!
There are many more . All say good things . I concur.
Just got the P365XL tac pac for my cc gun, it came with 2, 15 round mags and a 12 round plus a holster and a nice case, its really comfortable, night sights are great and it shoots very well, worth every penny.
Very nice!
The magguts upgrade is totally worth it. 👌
Looks like it is to me too. Thanks for watching!
I was so torn between the standard p365 and the XL. So I bought both. Sold my 43x and 43.
Very nice!
I almost sold the 365 when I picked up the XL. Very glad that I hung onto it. Installed a flat trigger on the 365, painted the front sights around the tritium and installed Hogue grip sleeves on both. Added a weapon light to the XL. Perfection!
I put a Holosun 407K X2 sight on my XL. I did not lose the rear sights.
Good to know. Thanks for watching!
My conceal carry rig is the Sig P365XL ROMEOZERO plus Crossbreed Super Tuck holster with the combat cut and Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P. Nothing better!
Great choice!
That holster is quite the looker, think I’ll have to pick one up for my XL.
They are nice! Thanks for watching!
I have the ext. safety model for IWB . Xray 3 dot , 250lu Sig light and a red dot. But she feels better naked. What a pistola.
I like them "Old School", just the plain 3 dots. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for going right into the box and chatting about it straight away. I cannot stand these guys who sit there jabbering and turning the damn box around while they "build up the anticipation".
Anyway, I really like the 365xl. I bought one with the Romeo zero on it and I have never stopped carrying it and practicing with it. Maybe had it for 5 months and I've got over 1000 rounds through it with nothing but good times. So far the only ammo it's had any issues with is steel cases not ejecting. I will say that mag seating requires a firm push to get it in place. Also, you won't hate yourself for buying the 15 round mag. It's a little long and wonky lookin but it does help the two hand grip and of course gives ya the extra 3 rounds...even if it subtracts a little from the guns sleek appearance.
I don't care for unboxing videos either, some people like them so I just do them quickly and get it over with. Lol. I found out about the mag seating. When the salesman handed me the 15 round mag and I inserted it, I just couldn't do it. I feel they could have made it look a little nicer plus, I like having it a little easier to conceal over the 3 extra rounds. I hope I never regret that choice but I've been comfortable carrying a Shield for years. Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I can't say I disagree with you at all. I'm sure that the 12 round is more than enough. Especially for a pistol that shoots as nice as this one. I can definitely see why you're not a fan of the 15 round though. It really is wacky looking. I carry mine as a back up and it's nice to have a few extra shots when at the range. I heartily agree that it's too big to be concealable though. I still have to stand by my comment about it giving more to hang onto when you're firing with both hands. It may just be that I'm a shitty shot but I always feel like I have better control with that mag extension. Haha
@@nsob8897 I can't disagree with you on the extra grip either.
Those mags are really tough to load. I know first hand. My brother has the regular 365 and as an inexperienced pistol shooter, I can hit pretty well with it considering how small it is. Definitely a well thought out concealed carry piece. Good video as always. Take care
I'll probably buy one of the loading tools for this one. I don't really like them smaller than the 365xl, this one is about the perfect size.
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview A loading tool is a must.
@@ChuckinTV Just ordered one!
Great review. Bought it with the red dot, not a huge fan but it’s ok. Bummed it didn’t come with the iron sights also. Now I have to buy those for $70. Live and learn. Now to narrow down my Henry .22lr choice for cheap fun.
I'm not a fan of red dots, I guess I'm old school. Henry and cheap don't really go together, Lol. Henry makes some good ones though. Thanks for watching!
I love my N&P 357 sig, 15 rounds.
I bought it $400 used two years ago but looks like new.
Thanks
They'll last a long time if they're taken care of. Be safe and have fun!
I have had mine since early February and I really like it it’s a great little shooter and I bought a 15 round mag and at first I didn’t like the way it looked but after running it a while I like it pretty good but I use it as a backup mag for my car as I want it to print as little as possible which it does fine I hope that you enjoy your xl as much as I do
So far I'm liking it a lot. Great size, feel and a great shooter too. Thanks for watching!
Does your 15 round rattle? Mine sounds like pee gravel in a can. I've taken apart several times but I can't get a change. Sounds like loose rounds. The 12s are fine. For the price of them you would think quality would be better.
@@Rumpleskin Hey brother I’m sitting in my car fiddling with my 15 and although it has a tiny tiny wiggle it’s not audible but I agree for the price of a Sig mag you ought to not even have any movement or in your case sound ! This is the only weapon I own that I have so few mags and not one brand new one sitting in my safe
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview just found your channel and subscribed. I just bought a mark 2 fv. I usually shoot pistols. I thought I would try a cheaper hobby. I wish I could learn how to use a scope. I've played with one years ago. I shoot pistols from 15yards. I have access to 50 yards at the farm. Ought to be good for 22. I do have a ruger american rimfire I play with. I bought the wife the same so we can compete. If I beat her it makes my day. She's younger than me, I'm 53 and my 20/10 is long gone.
@@robertharing7031 mine sounds like some rounds got under the follower, and are completely loose. But it feeds like a normal mag...range only I guess. But it makes me hesitant to buy a 15 for my hellcat now...lol
I really like mine, I bought the magguts 15 round kit for the factory 12 round mag and a sig red dot optic
The Magguts kit looks a whole lot better than the Sig 15 round magazine. I have never really liked a red dot on a pistol, I'm just so used to low tech. Lol. Thanks for watching!
How do you like it ,any problems? I bought a 15 rd,but It rattles bad. I wish I would have just bought another 12 rd.
@@Rumpleskin I like it A LOT! Very comfortable and no issues that I didn't cause myself. Very accurate and a perfect size for a CCW.
Really nice pistol great choice. I had a Beretta 92D.
Same configuration no safety and double action only. No external hammer that was the safety. When I move I will get a couple of pistols a .45 a 9MM and a revolvers either 357 or .38 special. Thanks for the video.
Go for .357, you can still shoot .38s in it! Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I probably will to start I had a Henry Big Boy in 357/38 special. But I do want a semi auto.
For a semi auto, I think your only option is going to be the Coonan. I don't know of anyone that makes a .357 semi auto rifle though.
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I meant I have the Henry in 357/38. Sorry for the type-o I would get a revolver and semi auto .45 or 9MM when I get settled it will work it self out. Usually when I buy a gun in drawn to it. I might not get it then but usally always go back for it. Strange but true aside from pistols which I had to sell when I retired and moved back to NY. I never sold any firearm that I purchased new or milsurp that I recall.
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I second the .357 revolver. I’ve got a S&W one that used to belong to my granddad. Simple, easy, versatile, and plenty of power. I like my semis for personal use, but that revolver is easily my favorite pistol to shoot.
Fantastic! Can you plz mention where is the manufacturing date/ born date mentioned on the box. And can it be traced with just the serial number.
Not sure what you mean.
Iv got the micro NRA Addition in Coyote no safety I also use 15 round mags got a few videos out on it.Love the Xray sights on it as well these are very accurate it is my EDC.feather weight .My upper can fit into the XL body as well.
This will be my new EDC. I may do the "Magguts" conversion. I'll have to check out your videos. Thanks for watching!
I’ve had my 365xl since spring and like it as well. I was thinking about the same Versa carry holster you bought but haven’t gotten it yet. If you could do a review of how you like it with the 365xl
I could possibly do that some day. I can already tell you that I like it but it is a little snug right out of the box, hopefully with a little use it will loosen up. I did loosen the tension screw some but it's more the friction that's causing the drag. It's not terrible, especially if you draw it somewhat quickly and in one smooth motion, and safely of course. Thanks for watching!
Nice leather holster I noticed that it doesn’t have the cut out for the dot sight for those of us that have the XL with mounted sights. Hopefully versa has one like this that dot sight compatible.
I couldn't say if they make one like that or not. I prefer iron, or open sights, so I never looked. I'm sure someone makes a "kydex" holster that does, but I really like the looks of Versa's holsters. Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview looks like your a pretty fair pistol shooter....I loved perfecta , wish I was still buying for 10 bucks a box. Old stock, I assume.
@@Rumpleskin Yeah, I haven't seen it on a shelf in a long time. It was inexpensive and very reliable.
Is this a good year-round EDC for a woman? I shot it at the range and fell in love, but I wonder if it would be concealable in warm weather. I couldn't rack the slide on the little brother, but I could manage the XL quite easily.
That's tough to say. It is a very good quality gun from a good manufacturer and it's a good size for concealed carry. There are a lot of things to consider when carrying a concealed firearm concealed. What is your body type? What is your size? Where do you want to carry it on your body? What types of clothes do you want to wear? What activities will you be involved in? A lot of sitting, standing, bending, lifting, driving? There is probably no single, perfect firearm for concealed carry and there is definitely no single holster for it either. Women that carry do have a couple advantages over men when it comes to carrying concealed though. There are shorts that have a pocket for a firearm that are designed to wear under a skirt or dress. There is a holster called the "Flash Bang" that is designed to be worn under a bra and concealed under the breasts. (yeah, some guys can do that too) I would suggest going to a gun store that has a female salesperson, most of them carry and have probably had the opportunity to try many different firearms and holsters and may be able to make a suggestion. Those suggestions may not work for you though. I would suggest against carrying "Off Body" though, say in a purse or small handbag. There are bags and purses that are designed to hold firearms securely but if you have to set it down for any reason or someone were to snatch it from you, you could be left defenseless. I wish I could be more help but there are a ton of things to figure out when it comes to carrying concealed even after you've chosen the "perfect" firearm. If you do a search for "Concealed Carry for Women" you'll find several videos that explain what to consider and what the many options are. As far as the P365XL being a good carry option? I like it a LOT! Thanks for watching!
This is the size micro I like. I checked out the 365 and didn't get it because reminded me of my G43 I got rid of. I just got the GX4 cause 300 less. But the size of it might bother me. The XL is slightly bigger I think. Just enough to feel right. Nice shooting also. And like you I'm just not into red dots on my handguns. Also Versa carry holsters I own and like
I would not have bought the 365 just because of the size but I like the 365XL, fits the hand much better. Thanks, the gun makes it easier to shoot well. I'm also liking the Versa Carry holsters. Thanks for watching Hillbilly!
Good choice.
I think so too! Thanks for watching!
love the pistol, however a recent bad experience really disappointed me. used as a edc and the rose/gold coated areas all show corrosion and sig sauer will not cover it under warranty! very disappointing
I don't trust very many plating processes, they'll eventually fail.
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview lesson learned. but when you pay a little for glod trim, it should last more than a couple months
@davidjames3405 I agree. I have a few antique pocket watches that had a 10yr guarantee on the plating. The watches were handled every day, you'd think they could have done something like Elgin did back in the day.
"Personal Protection Perfection"? I'd have to say the LCP Max, it boldly goes where no other pistol will. (that is a nice looking holster)
Most of them are pretty good but there's just something I really like about the P365XL. Thanks for watching!
To each and their own, can’t really tell anyone which firearm is best for them. That’s just facts
@@vchim3310 I can only present my opinion. Thanks for watching!
I appreciated your time and vids sir.
@@vchim3310 I appreciate you taking the time to watch.
Nice video and good shooting. I have arthritis in my hands and find the narrow grips on the subcompacts I have handled to be uncomfortable, but that's a good looking firearm.
It's not as narrow as a single stack but for some reason, it doesn't feel as wide as a double stack, even though it is a double stack! If you get a chance, pick one up and see how it feels, it might surprise you. Thanks for watching!
It feels great in hand and low flat recoil .Simply awesome. Sold my Glock G1 and Colt officer. And have you tried an EZ 9mm S&W ? My hands giving trouble and bought one pre-emptively . It is THE pistola for bad hands. I do recommend . Even the .380 if you can abide with the caliber. Stay safe .
Nice piece, I hope you never need it for its intended purposes, all of the 5 micro nines are amazing to me, but sigs are known for quality. Damn decent shooting for what it is. Thx for the vid
I hope I never need them either but they sure are fun! I agree with the quality statement, they're very well made. Thanks for watching William!
I love it and Glock 48.
I have Walther PPS and Ruger ccp9.
Glock, Walther and Ruger, all good guns! Thanks for watching!
Had to send mine back to sig after 30rds. Not really happy with it.
I think every manufacturer has a bad one every now and then, some more frequently than others. I hate to hear you had an issue with yours, I hope they make it right. Thanks for watching!
How would you compare 365xl with x compact?
I don't know, I don't have the compact, only the xl.
I love my xl but I also notice it sometimes shoots low, and I need to cover the target with the sight in order to hit it. Don't know if it's the gun or maybe I just need more practice lol
Most of my shooting is me, but on occasion it's the gun. Try shooting from a rest, that will help determine which of you is the culprit. Thanks for watching!

Great natural review and honest video, especially with your target shooting etc 👍🏻
Deffo the best concealed carry and I’d just stick to the 12 over the 15, if you’ve not defended yourself by then , well, your too late
I sort of believe like the German motorcycle test
On that you have to put the bike over on it’s side and if you can’t lift it up, you fail and you’ve picked the wrong bike
The same with the clips, if you can’t load them by hand, then in the concealed application , you’ve picked the wrong pistol
As I’m sure an assailant or home intruder isn’t gonna wait for you to go and retrieve your loader 🤣
Thanks, I appreciate the comment! They are tough magazines to load by hand and I have gone my whole life without a loading tool but for range plinking I'm ok with a loader. lol. Thanks for watching!
$ 599.- and you call this pricey? You must be joking. I purchased the P365X over here in Switzerland for a whopping CHF 1125.- which equals US $ 1209.- That hurts the brain.
But Ammo does cost here only half the price of what you guys in the US pay. So that eases the pain a bit.
You are correct. Hand loading that magazine is torture. When it was brand spanking new I managed to load five rounds. With the help of my Glock loading device I filled it up to 12 rounds and let it sit there for about a week. That really softened that spring up so I can now easily load 11 rounds which is ok for me.
Yeah, I'd say you got me beat on the pricey side! Shortly after I bought mine, they ran a sale for the same gun, with two extra 15rnd magazines a Sig holster and two boxes of Hornady American Gunner ammo for $569. I hope you're enjoying your 365XL. Be safe and thanks for watching!
