      Nice...$200 for ~400 new sounds is fair, and hopefully the new kits won't require much time to tweak. Any idea when it'll be available?
      EDIT: I got the upgrade on May 1, and the new sounds are amazing. The upgrade was a little wonky, but I was using an old SD card and once I got a new card the upgrade went in just fine...took a couple hours, patience is not my strong suit!

      @@petergriffinelectricdrums4164 Roland is like Gibson with its prices. However when you buy a Roland product you know you are getting a professional quality product that will last for years of consistently getting the snot beat out of it. That’s why so many Roland td-10 kits are still around today because they are quality products. 900$ over 20 years is 45$ a year and that’s very reasonable for quality gear. You don’t see many Alesis products that have been used for 20 years still being sold on 2nd market and still operable. Maybe one of its compression rack units. Love my
      Alesis strike module, however I’m afraid of something breaking on it and instead of getting it repaired having to buy a brand new unit.

      I personally think this update will add 3-5 years to the generation. The 50 is pretty amazing module and look like they have really handled all the major gripes people had with it. But as always for some, Roland will never be good enough compared to VSTs or Electronic drums will always still suck in general. Glad you were on this with a great video so soon. Thanks for all you do for the eDrum community.

    Thanks for this detailed run-down! I listened to the demos that have been released so far and while I think the TD-50x sounds a good bit better than the regular TD-50, but still think that the Pearl Mimic Pro sounds better - and it's years old at this point. Certainly, Pearl/Slate are probably watching this release and have been prepping for something of their own (though we got a pretty cool set of updates last summer). I am still awaiting monetization of my own channel before rewarding myself with a new acoustic kit to convert with my Mimic, but I'm sure that this release of new Roland stuff will inspire many to find a way to do it DIY or cheaper than these releases. I'm sure they are quite good, because as you said, Roland doesn't usually half-bake stuff, but there are very effective ways to do this far less than the $8k that is reserved for a different group than I am in! Thanks again for the video (not sure how after these years, but I wasn't already subscribed, so you just got another).

  • @MegaKTime
    @MegaKTime 3 роки тому +1

    I have a TD-50 module with the digital snare and ride as well the VH-13s and some of their crashes. While I think their drum trigger pads are the best they were way beyond my budget (even before the new full size ones) so I built my own tom and kick triggers (Keller shells for the toms and an old CB-700 kick my church was throwing out). As pointed out in this and many other videos the sounds in the TD-50 (and elimination of the percussion sets in previous modules) were not what I expected from such a pricey sound module so I bought a V Expressions expansion that solved that. I am very interested in the TD-50X upgrade but not happy that my V Expressions pack won't work with it. I'm sure V Expressions will have a pack for it soon though if the sounds don't wow me.

    is that a good idea????? ???
    Is it worth? I am thinking that maybe the VAD506 hats and toms sensors could be limited to make the full use of the td50x module

Just got a td17 kit w/ a 2 year x warranty for 18 even at my local GC & I'm loving it--- I think it's funny that peeps want a trad look in their electronic kit, but vive le differance! I get it, I just think it's kind of --- "cosmetically needless" (cosplay-ist?... pretend?) but I get it... I guess... My only real con is the too-low rack wtf? but I happen to own a vintage 1987 original Roland Percussion System rack which completely changes the compact td17 rack's semi-demi-halfsize teen bedroom feel to imposing spacious H-frame awesomeness & I have room to add my old PD10 kick for double kick madness. Hey Justin whats up buddy nice review. My main interest is the HH and the X upgrade. I run a TD50 now with a TD30 run in audio. I split the HH jack on the TD50 and ran a wire to a CY5 on my right side, both hats work off the same pedal and it is great. How can I do this if I upgrade to the VH-14D, it doesn't seem possible unless a splitter is available that does both digital and analogue. I use a Hosa GPP-359 and it works great, the difference in volume is a bit of an issue but I can deal with it. I love having the secondary HH because it opens the kit up for me and allows other possibilities that do not exist playing cross-armed. I'm back playing now about 6 months from not playing since the mid90s. I researched ekits for about 3 months before purchasing and I have to thank you for all the info you gave me to help make that decision. I went with a used TD30 and later upgraded to the 50 at a STEAL, with the digi ride and snare! I run ATV cymbals, Roland cymbals and GEWA cymbals, also just pulled the KD140 and upgraded to two ATV KD18s splitting my Trick Black Widow, wow what a kit for my first EKit, lol. What can I do about a second HH run off the same pedal as the VH-14D but on the other side of the kit, that digi HH is not cheap. Thanks, you rule on the EKit reviews!!!

    I think the TD-50 K2 is the best deal. The VAD line of drums yes that’s all well and good, however I personally do not like having to lug around full sized drums. E-kits have been much easier for me to load in/out. I unfortunately now have to use a cane so my ability to haul gear is greatly reduced. Full size kits look great of course, transporting them is a different animal all together. The new upgrade for 32 channels over USB is a fantastic upgrade. I can’t wait to try out the digital hihats. The hihat has long been the weakest link in the chain for edrums. Hopefully these will be a step forward. Most likely I will buy a td-27 module and hopefully my first upgrade will be the digital hihats. I was so sure this was going to be announced at NAMM this year, was extremely surprised and happy to get the email from sweet water about this new Roland gear.

      Yes it’s definitely not cheap, quality gear rarely is. That’s why you don’t see 20 year old Alesis gear still being sold like Roland td-10 kits. 900$ over 20 years is like 50$ a year that seems more reasonable. Wait till you can try them out in person at a GC or equivalent store and see if they are worth it. Maybe buy them through sweet water payment plan and break up the initial costs.

      @@DouglasLippi I have a cable tie addiction ha ha... they are great for a clean look (although they don't make setup faster). I think part of the challenge with V-Drums is that each pad needs it's own transmitter, and there needs to be a different wireless "channel" in the brain... also, the pads just send data that needs to be converted into audio by the module. That's a ton of processing power... far more than a single input guitar transmitter that's just directly sending audio would need, for example. I'm also looking forward to cable-less times!

    I’d love to know what could be the best e-drums from just a pure feeling point of view, as a controller to Superior Drummer 3. I love the new digital hihat idea, etc... but since I only plan to use my e-drum kit at home, as a controller for SD3, I just don’t care of onboard sounds and features. I just want a kit that offer a nice feel. I unfortunately don’t have the chance to go in a store to try them, so I’d love a video that focus just on that aspect. Obviously I’m also looking at the most affordable solution, I’ve seen the Alexis Strike Pro SE, but I have no idea how the feel is in comparison to Roland.

Please note that I mentioned the Alesis because it seems affordable, but I could also mention other kit, I just don’t know which one would be the best triggers and best feels. Not sure how the new digital hihat is sending info to SD3 for new sensors. That’s why I’d love a video about it, all about having the best kit to trigger SD3, regardless the onboard sounds.
