What I’d love to see is a company make a simple wrap change. I’m not a huge fan of the color, and would have to change it. Seems like a huge pain in the ass though. Lol.

I have to admit that the Strike Pro SE looks good and I personally don't have a problem with the brass lugs. As an acoustic drummer for 50 years, I always preferred acoustic and eventually, I triggered some of the heads. However, 3 years ago, I decided to get another kit that I could use to simply keep my joints loose, (I sold my acoustic kit 8 or 10 years earlier).
I bought the Alesis Surge Mesh in part, because I hadn't even tried to play an eKit since 1989 (and that was in a music instrument sales store). I certainly agree, if you're serious about drumming and eKits, spend at least $800. The Surge Mesh cost about $500 in 2019.
That said, I was impressed with the feel of the mesh heads, and I thought the feel of the cymbals made a great leap from what I remembered in '89. The Surge Mesh voice control had a great snare sound but it was very limited on a number of other levels. 'Back in the Day', I had a large kit and less than a month after I bought the Surge Mesh, I started adding cymbals and an second kick drum. I also came upon a Pearl Redbox RBM-20 for a great price, (plus I sent it to a certified Pearl repair company for a complete rebuild and fix).
With that addition, I was able to add more mesh-head drums. So now, I have 7 drums, (all mesh heads), 4 cymbals, and a hat, (if you want to call it that). Every cable input in the RBM-20 is filled and when I send it all to my Roland 80Watt amp and Klipsch 120W subwoofer the kit gets across. Still, it certainly isn't something I would put on a stage if I was still doing that kind of thing.
That brings me back to the Alesis Strike Pro SE. That kit looks like something I would certainly do live gigs with, (well, except for the color). But these full-bodied eKits look heavier than an acoustic set and the acoustic set could always be triggered. The Drum Voice module is really what gives the eKit the sound so it's not like you couldn't send the triggered acoustic kit to any module you like.
I replaced the Alesis snare with a 12" Roland V-drum and the Hi-Hat and Ride cymbals are also Roland pads, (tri-triggered). The rims on the Alesis are all programmable so I have 200 kits, (most are custom built from the ground up), and each kit has various drum sounds added through the rims.
This is also possible to do on an acoustical kit by adding special rim-triggers. All in all, a large acoustical kit, modified with drum head and rim triggers and with any voice module you want, wouldn't cost as much as that $9K Roland eKit.
Not only that but, I think the acoustic kit would still be significantly lighter... I don't know... If it was me and I was 30 or 40 years younger, I'd have a hard time being convinced that I should switch to an eKit. But then, that's me.
    FWIW
PS, Thanks for the great reviews! Very helpful!

Demoed this kit at Guitar Center I liked the feel and the construction of the Tom's also the function of the module so I bought Toms and the module separate at a discount... I've been using them in conjunction with a Roland KD 200 kick drum that is very positive and acoustic feeling no double dribble works nicely also use the Roland VH11 hats with much luck.. Most of my symbols are roland but I have some lemon symbols that are fantastic for the price never a mistigger..

One of the differences that I really like is on the new SE, you can mount the cymbals wherever you wish. The old model, you had to post them on the rack at the corners going down into the vertical posts, not the SE. It has a clamp where you can put them anywhere. It allows for a much more personalized feeling to the kit.

I actually just received my 3rd overall (2nd warranty replacement) and after a 45 minute test...everything is wonderful. This has started great before though, and then it went downhill from there.. but it took like 2.5 months to actually recieve it, so I was hoping/thinking maybe the new version has the improved ride...and i got one?! Kinda sucks that I was essentially forced to get a vh-11, due to terrible hh issues...and now 8 months later, they come out with an improvement on the hh. Oh well...like the acoustic kickdrum but that was my first upgrade within a week of purchase...makes a massive difference in my opinion, both on playability and looks. Thanks

I had a Yamaha DTXpress back in the day and I thought part of what made e-drums awesome was portability. Now you have big drum shells, cables and a power connection to deal with. I get you want something that looks acoustic for the stage presence, but this seems kind of ridiculous for that price of that Roland you can get one hell of an acoustic kit.

Actually, when the Roland TD 30KV first came out in 2012 with the 4 toms, I bought it the first day it was released at GC. It was $9,995.00 and kept it for 6 months and sold it. Yes, it was nice but I was just using it for practice and while it was the best kit to this day, in my opinion, it sure wasn't worth $10k. They come up with amazing New stuff like the Fantom or the New Jupiter. They put à LOT of effort on better products. TD 50 is still the best you can get. For me it’s worth every cent. 🥁💥🎶

I still worry about the hi hat. Looks like its the same exact controller with the spring and pressure plate. The only major difference is the elimination of the lower cymbal and its electronic bits. Which leaves me with the question why they didn't just make the lower cymbal a dummy cymbal like atv did you would retain the feel yet lose any negatives the electronics were providing?

I have an alesis command and ive hooked it up to ezdrummer 2. Is there a way to load my sounds as wav files from ez drummer so i can plug my headphones into my module and play from there or do i just plug in my headphones into my pc and use that as my audio ?

I'd REALLY appreciate it if you guys could answer this question. I had a major problem with the Alesis Strike Pro triggering every stick stroke across the "edge" and "bow" of the Hi-Hats. For example if I played the really fast accents between the bow and edge of the hat mixed in with unaccented strokes I found that the accents almost cancelled out some of the strokes afterwards. Also a lot of times I found the Hi-Hat would miss strokes as well when I played double stroke rolls on it. I wanted to know if you guys had any problems with the new Hi-Hat triggering correctly. If you could get back to me I'd really appreciate it.

I really hope that they sell the hihat thing only.
Because i have the Alesis Strike Pro for a year now and i play acoustic in a little band.
The acoustic hihat feels (duh) much more realistic. And i feel like i need that for my home practice too

Haven't drummed in almost 18 years always played acoustic sets. Been looking at the alesis command x set for the price I'd really like to get the strike pro se but way to much money right now.how does the command x rate?

I wonder if the triggers are different on the SE. I didn’t really have hi hat problems with my set, but I could never replicate real hi hat dynamics. After almost 2 years of playing, one of the trigger columns in my snare collapsed. The plastic plate their mounted to actually cracked in 2 places. It would be cool if they offered upgrade kits to match the SP. I’m sure they’ll sell individual pieces soon enough.

So I had bought the Alesis Strike Pro and suddenly this new one comes out... is there a way for me to buy individual parts (Ex: Kick pad, toms, and snare) from the Alesis Strike Pro SE and just swap them out of my kit?

Taking away features and selling them to you later for more, it just works. I really like Roland stuff but yeah little competition will turn anyone greedy/slow to innovative.
Is Roland got a successor to the TD50 (TD30 w/upgrades) lined up? Or at least a Digital HH? That free USB port must have been put on there for something, right?

So I am assuming that Alesis will now send everyone who purchased the original half baked kit the new SE kit for no charge.

So much fun stuff coming out, and I'm already invested in what I've got... :(
Anyway. Justin. I asked several questions on your Nfused Nspire video last week. I have to quiet my acoustic set down even more. I have Remo Silent Strokes on now, but have a concern. Have you ever heard of mesh heads wearing down the bearing edge of an acoustic wood shell? And (if you want to read that comment) would my possible solution be viable. Thanks.

Rick yes your bearing edges will be compromised if you don’t protect them
Use a piece of rubber or Remo Muffl on there before putting the mesh head on. 👍

I really like my Strike Pro (original). The only annoyance is the hi hat, even with the latest firmware, the response is not very realistic. I am considering the goedrum replacement, but sort of like the bottom cymbal to replicate an acoustic kit. I must say, the from what I see about the SE, it seems like the perfect kit. Wish I could upgrade, but it would make more sense to replace components as needed. Also, the full size kick would be tight in the space I have (but I would make it work, it is sweet).

Agreed on your assessment of Roland. Not having a Digital Hi-Hat at this point in time is ridiculous. Why have a third USB connector on the TD-50 if it was never meant to be used?

This video highlights what's wrong in so many industries. Every single piece of equipment is a 'new' product with a new model number or letter or what not. After a few years the numbers don't mean anything. Is the 35 from last year better than the 42½ from this year? Let's add all these letters, it'll make things easier! K, KV, KV-X, XXX, RM, SE, Plus, Turbo...

Are they actually brass or just electroplated? Brass would be more expensive to produce.

I got the first pro strike and really dont care for the small bass drum. I use it live at shows and my biggest problem is it tends too shake and move again like you said its not solid. And some of the hardware was a bit janky too. Other than that i like the black mesh heads and the over all kit

I bought a Drum-Tec Real Feel 14” mesh head and rim protector for my acoustic snare. I just want to test it out. If I love it I’ll put a set of them on the Alesis SE when I get it. There’s no positional sensing in the module so.....I’m thinking I’m going to have to by the td30 for the mapping of the snare and Hihat . No Strike pads have P.S. so again it looks like I’ll buy the Drum-Tec 13” chrome hand hammered snare ( Diablo) then I can make my toms 10 12 14 and 14. The 8” I don’t know. I’d like the 18” ATV ride and maybe the 17” ATV China. The td30 has enough inputs. If I get more I have a TM-2 at the house I could use . In the end...it’s all good

Chrome and black all makes sense and looks good. Not sure why the gold was put on the drums but they are not all that noticable. Nevertheless, chrome or black would have made more sense.
